Fic Preview:

In his entire time alive, Ryouma had never felt so ill. The symptoms started out negligible: a runny nose, the occasional cough, achey muscles in the mornings. Nothing that the young samurai couldn’t weather easily.

But his symptoms had been persistent for nearly two months and recently have started to get worse. Exhaustion was the first newest symptom. Even so much as getting up to open a window was enough to leave him bedridden for the next few hours.

That nightmare, however, had been plaguing him ever since he climbed down from that mountain. With each passing night, it seemed to grow more and more intense. This had been the first that Ryouma had seen whatever had been speaking to him, if a mouth counted for anything.

Ryouma groaned, rubbing his eyes as he flopped over onto his side. He wanted a peaceful sleep for once. He hadn’t had one in about six months now. He managed to work just fine with very little sleep, but it was beginning to unnerve him how frequent this nightmare was becoming.

His ears perked at the door sliding open. He heard no soft patter of footsteps on the tatami mat, but instead felt hair tickle his cheek. He cracked his one eye open and was greeted by the blank face of Oryou as she floated over him, carrying what appeared to be a tray of food.
