Selentia: A Shimmering Odyssey
Selentia, a world where the ground shimmers like polished silver under the soft glow of its twin moons, where tranquil lakes of liquid mercury sing the song of the cosmos, and where the inhabitants have entwined their existence with the unusual, metallic beauty of their environment. Far from being a barren wasteland, Selentia pulses with a vitality both familiar and strange, offering much to those who dare venture into its enigmatic embrace.
The Land
Bereft of conventional soil, the physical geography of Selentia is defined by vast stretches of hard, silvery crust interspersed with large lakes of liquid mercury. Despite the lack of greenery, its dramatic landscapes, like the towering Luminary Peaks, whose pinnacles glisten under the lunar light, or the Echoing Plains, where the solidified ground hums with an eerie melody, hold a unique charm.
Selentia's climate is largely determined by its axial tilt and orbit around its sun, leading to sharp diurnal temperature differences. During its daytime, the mercury lakes liquefy, reflecting the light in dazzling displays, while at night, the planet cools, causing the lakes to solidify into mirrored plains.
Its most prominent natural resource is its abundance of diverse metals, particularly the omnipresent mercury, utilized for a myriad of purposes from architecture to technology.
Population and Urban Factors
Selentians, the planet's semi-aquatic inhabitants, have built their cities on the shores of the mercury lakes. The architecture of Selentia is a testament to the inhabitants' innovative spirit, boasting towering, mirror-finished structures whose reflective surfaces create a mesmerizing spectacle of light and shade.
The capital city, Argentum, stands out with its grand Mercury Palace, where its regency resides, and the gleaming towers of the Luminary Institute, the heart of Selentian technological and philosophical advancement.
Society & Culture
Selentians communicate using their native language, Liquelae, a flowing tongue that mimics the soft lapping of mercury waves. In addition to spoken words, they employ a unique form of sign language developed to communicate from within their mercury environments.
Selentia's calendar is based on its twin moons' cycles, resulting in a 37-day month. Days are marked by the sun's position and the changing states of the mercury lakes.
Selentian fashion embraces the planet's metallic abundance, with attire made from woven strands of flexible, light-reflective metals. Body adornment with gemstones is common, and the society values the harmony of colors between attire and gemstones.
Government and Economy
Selentia operates under a meritocratic regency, where rulers are elected based on their contributions to society. Crime is handled seriously, with an emphasis on rehabilitation over punishment, while the legal system is designed to be fair and equitable.
The economy is reliant on the trade of its abundant metals, mercury-based technology, and knowledge exchange. Selentia's advanced understanding of metallurgy and materials science has made it a hub for intergalactic scholars and researchers.
Magic & Science
While not magical in a conventional sense, Selentians have developed a remarkable synergy with their environment through technology. They've harnessed the unique properties of mercury for a multitude of applications, from energy production to transportation.
Mercury skimmers, used for transportation, glide effortlessly over the liquid mercury lakes, while communication is facilitated through light-based devices, using the reflective surfaces of the environment to relay signals.
Medical science has developed alongside their unique biological needs, focusing on metallurgical compatibility and the balance of mineral intake in their diets. The interaction between their metallic world and the unique physiological makeup of the Selentians continues to be a fascinating field of study for exobiologists.
Selentia, indeed, is a world where the division between natural and artificial blurs, where the pulse of life resonates through metallic veins, and where each reflection in its mercury lakes hides a story, a lesson, an invitation to explore further. In the dance of its sunlit days and moonlit nights, in the whisper of its shimmering landscapes, Selentia is not just a place, but an experience, a melody in the symphony of the cosmos.

Blaster Interview with Hajime Kanzaka vol 13, translated
Original Japanese here. And this is the final Blaster volume. I found the translation QPDiana did of the full one of volume 12 (previous one) and was comparing it yesterday and unfortunately as you can see these online ones leave quite a bit out. Tokitama also had snippets from parts not online, and that lives on as a word document on my computer. Anyway, I’m going to continue to work on the Mega Brand stuff, and there’s a lot of that, and try to track down more interviews.
Also, last but not least, this is a good one for us Gourrina fans, so buckle in!
Tamiki: Oh, and this time, we did not intentionally organize the questions by content.
Therefore, the same question may appear several times. Also, questions that have been asked in the past have been left as they are. Please understand that I have my reasons for doing so, and I did not just skip them.
KANZAKA: That's what you call an editorial policy, isn't it? I understand.
Tamiki: I'll start with the first question, which has already been asked. “When and why did Gourry’s brother die? And is the rest of his family still alive?”
KANZAKA: Gourry's brother died because of various circumstances in the past. The other family members live on in the hearts of each and every one of you.
Tamiki .......
KANZAKA: To answer seriously, some family members are dead and some are alive, but I haven't thought of a proper setting or anything.
Tamiki: You said last time that at least his brother and grandmother are already dead. Who manages the money when Lina and Gourry travel together?
KANZAKA: Lina, of course, but she also secretly sews things into Gourry's clothes in case something happens to him.
Tamiki: Gourry doesn't even know it's there.
KANZAKA: He probably says, "I feel kind of heavy today.”
Tamiki: "In the afterword to the new edition of "Hatred in Selentia," you said that there were parts you wanted to rewrite. Is it the part about the runaway Luke?
KANZAKA: No, I'd like to rewrite here and there. No, it's all over the place. In some cases, it starts at the composition level.
Tamiki: Do you mean everything from the first volume? Or do you feel particularly strongly about "Selentia"?
KANZAKA: No, I wrote the afterword for each of the three new editions together, and it just happened to be that volume, so it was not limited to "Selentia".
Tamiki: Did you digest all of Zuma's past settings that you gave to the animation staff? Also, as far as you can tell, can you tell us where you got your ideas from?
KANZAKA: Well, it was a setting that was difficult to incorporate into the work, so it was rearranged. The "Reading" contains a description of how Zuma was set up, so if you compare that with the anime version, you can see how things were changed.
Tamiki: So, everyone should buy and read "Slayers Reading", which should be on sale by the time this is released, and watch the anime "Slayers EVOLUTION-R", which is also being released on DVD. So, that's it.
KANZAKA: Wow, what an advertising slogan. Is he a dog? Are you a manufacturer's dog?
Tamiki Tell him I've grown up (laughs).
Tamiki: Are there demons outside the wards?
It seems that Lesser Demons or so are naturally occurring, but are there any demons that can materialize on their own that are intermediate level demons or above (Zolom class or above?)? Are there demons that can materialize on their own?
If there were, I have a feeling they would be beaten to a pulp by the gods.
KANZAKA: There are demons outside of the warding. They are much rarer than those inside the wards. Outside of the wards, they are probably treated as a big boss like Seigram (laughs).
However, there are only the remaining three dragon kings, and there are no lower class demons, so it's not like the demons are going to beat you to a pulp.
Tamiki: It seems that the effect on the east side of the "Mazoku Barrier" has been removed.
I think there was a statement in a huge afterword or something that it is currently impossible for humans to go outside, but what about the other way around?
Even if they do come, are the demon tribe working hard (?) behind the scenes to prevent them? What about the other way around?
KANZAKA: No one would immediately notice that the warding has lost its effect, and even if the warding were to disappear, the area is surrounded by desert and ocean and is not an easy place to come and go, so I meant that there would be no sudden impact.
As I mentioned in my earlier question, there are only three dragon kings who are Gods, and it is not as if they would come out saying "Do~re~" just because the wards are broken (laughs).
However, since we are able to use the spells of the Gods, Milgazia actually uses them a little bit in the second part of the book. This area is also mentioned in the addition to the super huge afterword in volume 4 of "Select," so please read it.
Tamiki: "In the original feature, is Xellos damaged by the raw anthem?"
This similar question has been asked several times in the past.
KANZAKA: No, he is not damaged.
Tamiki: "Was Gourry's long hair something you had in mind from the beginning? Or was it based on the drawing by Mr. Araizumi?"
KANZAKA: It was always the image of long hair.
Tamiki: "Do you plan to write the Xellos + Luna short story you mentioned in the past?"
KANZAKA: Not at the moment.
Tamiki: There have been many of these in the past, haven't there?
There is also a theory floating around that Lina = Shabranigdu.
KANZAKA: No, she’s not.

[Constellation Night]
It's already been a year since the summoner arrived at Bound Arlyn. And now Selentia is stressing herself into making clothes for Constellation Night. Spica said that it's a big event, and considering Pollux's reaction to it, it's indeed grand. The great sorcerers will be there as well. “Selen!” Archedal barged inside without warning, making Selentia startled as she finally escaped from her thoughts. “Arche, knock before entering,” Selentia calmly said. The redhead only shrugs as he invites himself to sit on the sofa. The summoner's room is a mess; there's a lot of fabric all over the place as well as drafted designs and patterns. “Oh? Is it about the Constellation Night?” Archedal raises a brow. The woman only groans as she leans back on her chair. “Yes, this is stressing me out, just like the time during the banquet.” “Well, why not wear something simple this time?” Archedal pointed at one of the sketches that Selentia made. “This one looks good.” “It will cover your neck as well,” he added. Archedal then started tidying her room bit by bit: “Use this fabric, also this and this. It will look good together. Stick with white and light blue.” Now that Selentia has noticed, Archedal's behavior toward her has changed rapidly, in a good way. But she will never forget the fact that he once tried to intimidate her, which of course he failed to do. Sirius is the one who always helps her when she encounters problems such as this; maybe time has changed since she became acquainted with this weird fellow. “Oh, also, I thought you and Vega would go out to town to choose props,” Archedal mentioned. ‘You weren't even there; how come you know?’ Selentia only sighed and didn't ask, but instead replied, “That's for tomorrow.” Archedal only hums, “Oh, while I help you with this, make me a robe as well!” This little...
— • — • —
Archedal looked around as if finding someone; they arrived a little bit late. Pollux and Alpheratz are with him. “Where are Selen and Vega?” Pollux asks. It's quite crowded, considering the number of sorcerers in Contell. Meanwhile, Alpheratz groans as he already wants to go back to his room rather than socialize, not to mention the fact that he will see his grandfather. Archedal spotted Selentia, and he is really proud. Seeing her in clothes that they work on together, one thing that crosses his mind is, Who helps her with her hair? There is a rapier hanging at her waist. It was Vega's. He glanced behind Selentia and saw Vega wearing the summoner's necklace. In the end, the two failed to look for suitable props and chose to exchange instead. “Selen~!” Archedal casually put a hand around Selentia's shoulder. She flinches; she has an inclination that he will do something again. “Oh... Arche.” Archedal glances at Vega, whose aura is telling him to fuck off. They're not in a good term, but it's not that bad. Archedal just likes seeing Vega jealous. “You put your hair up this time? That's new. It looks great on you.” The redhead smiled. “You also look good, Arche,” Selentia said back. Archedal then gave Vega a sly grin, which made Vega's brow flinch. Music started playing, and Archedal offered a hand to Selentia, saying, “May I have this dance, My Lady?” “...?” Selentia is speechless, so that is what he is going with. “I—” Before she could even reply, Vega interrupted, “The summoner's partner for the night is me.” Internally, Archedal is holding back his laughter. “Oh, is that so? Such a shame.” Selentia links her arms together with Vega, which makes the other person blush. “Well, I shouldn't let my partner dance alone now, can I?” Archedal look between the two. Selentia is enjoying herself indeed; it's pretty obvious that she really likes Vega. Well, Vega, he is... “a tomato.” “What?” “Huh?” “I mean, I will now go bother the others and enjoy your night, love birds!” Archedal swiftly went away; he didn't mean to say that out loud. But the cold as ice person he knew was a blushing mess, red as a tomato. So he can't help but blurt it out loud.

While writing this, it just happened that I wanted to drop questionable information about my summoner. I still feel like there is something off in the way I write. I don't know, I really don't like it at all. Hah.
This Constellation Night is inspired from Vega's Card [The Oath of The Day]. Maybe I should do a spin-off for Alpheratz Card as well? Jk, but who knows?
I really like Archedal's hairstyle in here hihi, and also, Selentia looks really different at some point in the making.

Thoughts on the J-Novel Translation of Hatred in Selentia, Ch 1
-If I wasn’t so tired, there is probably so much to read into the sunset and shadow meets light metaphor. It’ll be interesting to see how this continues through the novel. All I take from it right now is Gourry is the light. Luke even points out that he serves as her lie detector kit.
-Love the dialogue between Lina and Gourry…and how he flummoxes her with seeing through her BS even as she rags on his smarts. He mostly keeps her in check...aside from the scene at the end when she interrogates Bran’s minions.
-You know, tailing on the end scene in chapter 13 where they agree that it is fine to travel together for the enjoyment of it, it does feel like Lina and Gourry had planned a relaxing vacation…or even something more romantic, and then got roped into all this. Gourry reminds Lina a few times that they are supposed to not take jobs and have fun. He has the vibe of a man who’s a bit annoyed that his romantic vacation plans got ruined because they got called into work. In fact my headcannon is gonna be that he didn’t tell her to take it down a notch with Bran’s minions because he was annoyed that they had to do this.

[Forgotten Memory]
I look at Vega sitting next to me, wearing his usual expression, but I can say he's happy. Breaking the silence, I ask, “Vega, how come you recognized me?”
He looked at me, astonished, but replied, "I just felt it."
“Oh...”
I don't remember much about my childhood, but I do remember Vega's face. But I have no plans to inform him about it. I don't want him to be concerned because it is the result of an accident I suffered when I was younger.
“Say, Vega. Let's go out sometimes.”
I caught him off surprise this time; as though choking on his drink, he coughs and turns away from me, his ears growing red.
“... Sure,” he agrees.
I smiled.
|✧◝くコ:彡
Selentia's hair is originally white but turns black. And she just had a vague memory about Vega, and she just felt that he was important to her.
My writing is quite rusty, and I know it. I just wrote it to add some context, and I don't like it. I added it either way. Ha! I'm such a clown.
[This is a quick Art... Yeah.]

Intro / Member Info
(header/avatar credit & DNIs below the cut)
hiya! kas here :) i'm part of a plural system with two other headmates, lucas and zaph! we thought we'd make this account for a place to put plural ramblings other than to close friends on discord and maybe find other systems to talk to :) all of us are terrible at writing intro posts wow anyway here's some information about the system in general:
system name: Selentia (if you're talking about as a whole, you can use this name to refer to us collectively! in these cases, we use they/them pronouns in the plural form, since we're multiple people)
our bodily age is 20, we're mixed white & asian, non-binary & transgender, and diagnosed with GAD
individually, we all use different pronouns and have different likes & dislikes because we're all different people :) we don't really vibe with system roles (e.g. protector, persecutor, etc.) for our own system but understand why others find the terminology useful.
okay this is also an intro post for the three of us as individuals so yeah :)
kas: she/her pronouns, age unknown? 20ish
・likes: the color pink!, knives, breakcore/dnb, bullying zaph :)
Lucas: he/him pronouns, age unknown/eternal, nonhuman
・likes: rhythm games, music by sakuzyo and xi, angels
zaph: she/her or it/its pronouns, system host, 20
・likes: celeste, being gay and trans on the internet, #dogmansweep
edit: oh my god i forgot since this blog is for our system you'll need to see our proxy table (posts will be proxied in the tags)
header: Diverse System label's Selentia album cover by 削除 / Sakuzyo (an: if u don't know who that is then get da hell out of here!) (an: im so sorry please forgive me -kas)
avatar made on pixlr, each third of the circle represents one system member (top left: kas, top right: Lucas, bottom: zaph)
・kas: cover image for salad's track Loneliness is My Best Friend
・Lucas: cataclysmical/pechiiv's picrew Fractal Angel Maker
・zaph: /floating in stasis/ original vent art
DNI if you are anti-endo, transphobic/queerphobic, against m-spec gays or lesbians, misogynistic, racist, ableist, or otherwise a bigot/exclutionist of any sort.
WE ARE NOT INTERESTED IN SYSCOURSE/SYSTEM DISCOURSE. WE BELIEVE THAT ALL SYSTEMS ARE VALID.

Highborne Artifacts - The Arcan’dor
The arcan’dor was an ancient species of mana tree created in tandem by the first elven practitioners of arcane magic and an organization of proto-druids many millennia ago [Quest: Arcan’dor, Gift of the Ancient Magi, Twitter: Don Adams]. The proto-druids, more formally known as treemenders or keepers, sought to bring the newly discovered chaotic forces of arcane into balance using nature itself as a vessel, thus leading to the creation of the arcan’dor [Item: Treemender’s Beacon, NPC: Keeper Selentia, Quest: Arcan’dor, Gift of the Ancient Magi]. However, because of the tree’s unique magical composition, should either the arcane or natural forces within it ever become severely imbalanced, the arcan’dor will die, resulting in a magical backlash powerful enough to kill and irrevocably warp those within its reach [Quest: A Growing Crisis, Quest: The Shardmaidens].
The arcan’dor’s magical nature makes it unlike most any other flora native to Azeroth. Invisible threads of magic bind every piece of an arcan’dor tree together, so that if a part is ever severed from the main body, it retains the tree’s magical properties and does not die, similar to the sea stalk plant [Quest: Branch of the Arcan’dor, Quest: Cultural Significance]. Additionally, despite their natural origins, all arcan’dor trees are created rather than bred [Quest: The Emerald Nightmare: The Stuff of Dreams].
A slow-growing blue fruit called Arcfruit grows on fully mature arcan’dor trees. When eaten, it reproduces the harmonious effects of the tree in a person by bringing their life essence and arcane spirit together [Quest: One Day at a Time, Quest: Arcan’dor, Gift of the Ancient Magi].
Shal’Aran, a portion of the Arcway located underneath the ancient elven city of Meredil, may have once housed an arcan’dor prior to the Sundering. The ghost of one of the members belonging to the organization of proto-druids who created the arcan’dor trees, Keeper Selentia, is initially found guarding a dead tree stump in Shal’Aran [Quest: Arcane Thirst]. Furthermore, the player’s arcan’dor seed fits perfectly in the pedestal on the tree stump, almost as if it was meant to have been placed there [Quest: The Valewalker’s Burden]. First Arcanist Thalyssra also surmises that the massive amount of leyline energy feeding into the chamber was for whatever the Keeper was guarding [Quest: Shal’Aran]. Since the Nightborne’s arcan’dor subsists off of the leyline feeds flowing into Shal’Aran today, it may not be too much of a stretch to assume that an ancient arcan’dor did much the same thing and that Shal’Aran was originally intended to hold one of the magical trees.
Unfortunately, it is not clear what happened to the arcan’dor in Shal’Aran, assuming there was actually one there in the first place. That said, because the tree stump does not resemble Falanaar’s arcan’dor – which became imbalanced, failed, and warped everything in its immediate vicinity – the arcan’dor in Shal’Aran may not have necessarily died for the same reasons. Given the stump’s appearance and the tree’s ancient origins, it is more likely that Shal’Aran’s arcan’dor was abandoned or destroyed during the War of the Ancients or the Sundering.
