If Wakui hadn't had to rush the ending, do you think Hanma would've become more of a major character? He gives super similar vibes to Memory from Wakui's series Sekisei Inko and Memory is a major character (plus Hanma just sticks out so so much even without the comparison)

I'm not sure, the only story Wakui mentioned wanting to do more on was Sanzu and Takeomi and their relationship. But just because he hasn't said it doesn't mean there wasn't plans there. I think especially, a lot of people wanted to know what Hanma said to Kisaki after he died, since it was set up like it meant something important but then we just never found out. And I've heard quite a few theories on this, like how the reaper and the pierrot are actually Mikey and Takemichi or some other character's and so on. And although those are all really interesting to read, it doesn't change that we never got a specific answer to this.

ok so i just finished rereading and actually finishing the infamous in the tokyorev fandom older wakui manga, sekisei inko and shit i have words.
i rlly recommend checking it out so if u plan on doing so, watch out for spoilers!!
ok so ending was so rushed, digi and ren's deaths were so fucking :((((( /neg like don't do them dirty like that. i feel like tsukuyo's power thing was so annoying and kinda useless since we didn't even get the time to see what it was entirely since she was already dyin but i kinda liked that reveal.
the reveal of seven being a bug was really good tho. memory was kind of a jumpscare but hey when isnt smth a jumpscare in wakui's works. i like the whole thing with peter and rabbit but again, i wish we got more backstory to that. and olga! love of my life i love her very much she is so<333333
but the hand over from og nana to seven was so fucking shitty its giving the ending of tokyo revengers like rushing any ending or like any scene in media in general is like one of the worst things you could do honestly. i'm kinda disappointed that wakui ended two mangas of his that had very much potential for a good ending rushed. like 😐
but the thing i wanted to talk abt most is the parallels of sekisei inko to tokyo revengers. from characters to the storyline it very alike fr. like ofc nana is michi, straf is like sanzu probably, hiwa is hina (crazy), memory is hanma coded, digi was giving akkun and ren was definitely shinichiro and tsukuyo was maybe like emma ig??

What a goofy hallucination which definitively can't have any impact whatsoever on reality, doesn't withhold information from the protagonist and the reader and can fully be trusted while absolutely not treating the tragedy unfolding before his eyes as entertainment

I hope we'll have entities in Negai No Astro as funky looking as Memory in Sekisei Inko
C'mon, Astros have to be more than just free-handed power without counterweight

I JUST NOW NOTICED YOU HAVE A MEMORY FROM SEKISEI INKO WAKUI AS YOUR AVATARA!1!1!1 (I've never met anyone who's read Sekisei Inko, sorry----)
did you read it? did you like it? who are your favorite characters? did you think the ending was rushed? did you understand the ending?
[warning for Sekisei Inko spoilers, if anyone who stumbles upon it plans to read it and doesn't want to be spoiled]
I DO!! AND SO DO YOU!! Waving at you, other Sekisei Inko fan (eh, it isn't quite famous over there indeed - but we do exist do not worry, other fans have to be somewhere, I even have a mutual who is!)
I read it, yup. I liked it a lot, and it's nice to see Wakui's progression as a writer and artist (I did it backward but still!). They were a lot of interesting plot points, some of which unfortunately led nowhere since for whatever reason Wakui had to end it quickly (I don't held it against him), I didn't expect the whole Rasputin thing though (not a bad thing, just - didn't see it coming). I don't think I missed or failed to understand the story but I didn't look at it as close as I did with TR so my understanding is not in-depth.
I love Memory sooo much - funky dude. Memory and Seven both. I wish we could've had more information on Hermes... And the day I find the time to focus on Youshichi he'll make me insane BECAUSE WHAT WAS THAT. The daddy issues are going through the roof with him and Seven holy molly
The ending was rushed, the built up to the last arc fell flat since it got wrapped up in a handful of chapters, the last few death couldn't be focused on since time and pages were lacking, I wish we could've seen more of Ren. I'm not totally bothered by it tho? Like yeah, it sucks but it is what it is. It's a really open ending, plot-wise who knows where it leads - it's a bit easier to guess about Seven's development? It looks hopeful, despite all the death around him - but he is used to death and has to be, knowing how old he technically is and the sole fact he cannot die. He's just doomed to lost and grief and to keep walking forward. We are as in the dark as he is when it comes to the story, which is a nice touch as much as it pains me not to know *vague gesture* what actually happened to Olga, who was Youshichi's mother, why didn't he stick around to raise his son, what will happen to Straf, ...
Memory, who has become detached and desensitized to everything, used bugs of all senses - [perception of] time (and thus, awareness(?) of time passing, creation of personal memories and development of a distinct personality) included - as a way to entertain himself without having to be the one interacting with the world. He tried it six times before Seven, all which failed because they couldn't handle 'not being real' - they erased their own memories and thus 'died' which is the only way to get rid of them (Sekisei Inko states that identity(/soul)=memories). But, since they've all developed an identity - Seven included - they were independent. Independent from their creator, even. Memory doesn't have full power over them, they have free will. When Memory says that he has no soul no more, it doesn't have to do with having memories (since it is literally all he made of himself) than the fact he feels disconnected from existence after having lived so long.
That's how I see it, perhaps I'd change my answer one day but for now.. that's how I understood it

I was wondering if you’ve read Ken Wakui’s other works. There’s plenty of parallels between TR and everything before it.
Like Mikey’s dark impulses really resemble the crescent moon creature that the main character in Sekisei Inko imagines as a way to coupe a/ his trauma and help him remember his memories(dude got amnesia bc of trauma after finding his friends dead body). The swirls we see surrounding Mikey when he has his dark impulses look like the swirls surrounding the 🌚. I think this part was pretty neat bc Sekisei Inko is about losing yourself and healing. We’ve already seen Mikey lose himself, and now it’s time for him to find himself. This manga also has characters whose designs resemble the characters in TR the most. I mean for ffs we have a sanzu and chifuyu and hina look alike. The chifuyu copy even wears a similar sweater w/ ugly pants.
There’s also one more thing I should mention about Sekisei Inko: the ending was rushed drastically so Ken Wakui could begin TR. The editors and publishers saw TR as having more potential (which they weren’t wrong about lol). I feel like there’s so many plot points that should’ve been included but Ken Wakui wasn’t given the time to include and in a way is continuing it in TR.
In Shinjuku Swan there’s this one scene that resembles what happened in ch 241. Ya know how Mikey says “laugh haruchiyo”? A similar line is said by Mako to a “host” whose friend was murdered. To be exact he said smt among the lines of “laugh. The people who did this are laughing so laugh” (there’s no official translation but this is the gist of it). Mako said it as a way to help comfort the “host”.
In Desert Eagle, the plot surrounds two delinquents fighting gangs, yakuza etc. to help strangers/ not letting strangers get involved with criminal activities. This reference is pretty self-explanatory.
I actually haven't checked any of the others out but thanks for the great descriptions of them. They definitely make me want to check them out, I probably will when I get the time.
