for @marcsnuffy and that one anon
Pride, Prejudice & Penalties
Blue Lock x Austen AU
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single football player in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a rival.
Causing immediate excitement among Ego Jinpaichi and his five young wards, Kunigami Rensuke, a wealthy young football player, has rented a nearby stadium in their locality. He arrives in town accompanied by his fashionable teammate Alexis Ness and their good friend, Michael Kaiser. While Kunigami is well-received in the sporting community, Kaiser begins his acquaintance with smug condescension and proud distaste for all the unsigned players.
Kunigami and Chigiri Hyouma begin to grow close despite Jinpaichi’s embarrassing interference and the opposition of Ness, who considers Chigiri athletically inferior.
Isagi Yoichi is stung by Kaiser’s haughty rejection at a local game and decides to match his coldness with his own wit.
Cast list and rambling thoughts under the cut.
I'll reiterate this was a 2am brainrot kind-of idea and I have no scope to actually write this, unfortunately. So if anyone feels like making their own version, go ahead! I claim no ownership haha.
Here's how I provisionally cast the different P&P roles:
1. Mr. Bennet: Noel Noa
2. Mrs. Bennet: Ego Jinpachi
3. Miss Jane Bennet: Chigiri Hyouma
4. Miss Elizabeth Bennet: Isagi Yoichi
5. Miss Mary Bennet: Igarashi Gurimu
6. Miss Catherine Bennet (Kitty): Raichi Jingo
7. Miss Lydia Bennet: Bachira Meguru
8. Mr. Charles Bingley: Kunigami Rensuke
9. Miss Caroline Bingley: Alexis Ness
10. Miss Charlotte Lucas: Nagi Seishiro
11. Rt. Hon. Lady Catherine de Bourgh: Barou Shoei
12. Miss Anne de Bourgh: Sendou Shuto
13. Colonel Fitzwilliam: Oliver Aiku
14. Rev. William Collins: Mikage Reo
15. Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy: Michael Kaiser
16. Miss Georgiana Darcy: Hiori Yo
17. Mr. George Wickham: Itoshi Rin
On reflection, I agree Nagi and Reo are more fitting as Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth... if you want to go down the romance route. Nagi is that guy who means well but has no filter and doesn't express himself well. Reo has the spirited attitude of Lizzie and the cleverness/conviction to confront an asshole like Darcy. It definitely helps that Reo's canonically written to resemble a maiden in love 💜
But I envisioned this as a satire regarding rivalry, loosely following the events of P&P. There's no better rivals than Kaisagi IMO. Another good option would be Rin and Isagi as Darcy/Lizzie. Then you could make Sae a reeeeally shady Georgiana and Shidou Wickham. Igaguri can be Lydia lololol
Kunigami as Bingley and Chigiri as Jane is my bias showing - but Chigiri fits well as Jane, the beautiful lovesick sibling who yearns for a rival that has seemingly rejected them (hello, Wild Card Kunigami).
The other castings were fitting characters I personally enjoy to leftover roles. They're not particularly well thought-out. I loooove Barou as Lady Catherine though, especially where Isagi is Lizzie. He has a similar condescending vibe in Blue Lock and again, through the lens of rivalry, their confrontation would be hilarious. Otherwise, Noa or Ego would be fitting as Lady Catherine, playing on the difference in age and footballer status.
Kaiser as Catherine and Ness as Mr. Collins would also work beautifully.
I have Bachira and Rin as Lydia/Wickham because I enjoy their ship, but appreciate they don't fit the characters perfectly. But I can see Bachira running off to become Rin's rival, as well as Rin trying to convince Isagi to be his.
Ego and Noa raising football orphans with very different methodologies? Of course ✨ Isagi being closer to Noa is a nice nod to BLLK canon.
Here's my writing notes, on approaching this:
Take text of certain scenes and moments from P&P and flip them to read as if from Isagi’s perspective. Instead of marriage, it's rivalries, and they're seeking club offers rather than rival offers.
The dialogue should be similar but irreverent. Characters like Sendou and Nagi are present for a gag, rather than any actual serious reason.
So, lift the text from the original, make the dialogue contemporary with high degrees of snark, done!
I won't get scope to do this basically ever, but it's a fun concept. Would love to hear people's thoughts!
The Shakespeare AU I likely will write, when I finish my current WIPs. It'll be A Midsummer Night's Dream, but set in high school, in the same vein as Clueless and Ten Things I Hate About You. I'm excited to get stuck into that, as it'll be multi-ship and heavy on the crack.

Things just get more interesting from here. Subaru calmed Seishiro down and he started to talk about their wedding! Things just escalated quickly, thus Subaru said "Seishiro-san, please stop joking".
Tumblr media
And this fucking shady man literally described what boys love is in one page.
Seishiro: "Did this face looks like joking? I'm a man, and Subaru-kun is a boy. It's just the person I love happened to be 'male'."
Me:
Tumblr media
And of course, our ever LGBT supportive sister, Miss Hokuto, said that it's just weird if you go around hunt a boy. But she also said she won't split these two and instead support them 🤧
Tumblr media
Just because it's interesting. My goodness.
Then, for some reasons, Subaru goes...
Tumblr media
Finally feeling something is shady about Seishiro and began to think they are similar, but he also said the image is different. Oh boy, please get your eyes checked.
Then after this, Seishiro said he was done with work (???) and Hokuto asked them to go to Ueno Park. Subaru said the cherry blossoms haven't full bloomed yet, but Hokuto in a loud voice said if they go during peak season, it will be full of salarymen. Right now, it's only toddlers who go to kindergarten and old men.
Tumblr media
Subaru being someone's impulse control as a trope.
Then they arrived in the park and Hokuto went to get oden. Subaru noticed that one of the tree is already full bloomed and he felt scared. Seishiro began his shadiness and said the same line as Subaru remembered that boy said...
Tumblr media
Like hypnotism, right? Seishiro without glasses however? Fucking get out from my room 🤧
And this man told Subaru all shady things, yet Subaru...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He convinced himself that "Seishiro-san is different from that boy", as if it was hypnotism. And then he asked himself "what was I thinking about?", forgetting his whole doubt about that dream and Seishiro as well.
Uh oh? What's happening here?
For note, the phrase where Subaru thought Seishiro is different is written in katakana and it was written twice; one like a normal phrase, the other was per katakana. As if he tried to emphasis that to himself that this person is different. But it's not common to write such phrase in katakana, when it's a perfectly normal Japanese phrase. Phrases written in katakana usually led to two meanings: it has some hidden meanings (like e word Kamui mentioned in TRC, which refers to prey) or he wants to emphasis that line. And seeing how Subaru snapped out of thinking like that...
So shady.
The chapter ends with the boy's "this time I will let you go". Hm.... 🤔
Overall, this chapter is pretty solid to be the prologue of the main problem in the series and as a reader who already finished the whole series, I was like, "wow they actually explained everything since the beginning". It would start make sense once we get to the main problem, and like I said before, I was frustrated by Subaru for not trusting his intuition---but again, this is Subaru.
For volume 1, It was pretty hard to not commenting about things from future chapters except translation, but it's fun! I realized they probably changed the text to suit current world (I saw that post which tells about the third volume's religion thingy has different text compared to original one), but either way, it waa fun to see some new tinybits we can't get in translation version! And I noticed some of fundanmental parts of the characters from the way they speak, like how Subaru and Seishiro always use formal phrases to everyone (except Subaru to Hokuto) and Hokuto was more excited in original language. And Seishiro in Japanese is 100% more sus than in translation.
I will start the commentary for Vol 2 anytime soon next week!
Tokyo Babylon - CLAMP Premium Collection - Commentary Pt. 3
Tumblr media
Let's go to the last chapter of Volume 1. It's called "destiny". Here, we was finally introduced to the main issue of the series---a high school boy Subaru met under a cherry blossom tree.
Anyway, Subaru's collar reminded me of CPC Vol 5's cover 🥺
Tumblr media
FIRST OF ALL, LET'S MEET OUR ADORABLE BABY SUBARU. Oh my God, he is so cute!!! Can I adopt him? I will raise him so he will be able to survive against a certain hunter---
Interesting note here: The boy told Subaru about a dead body buried under the cherry blossoms tree. Not a nice thing to talk to a child, but this man reeks of menace by telling him about this matter so what can we do? That aside, the boy told Subaru about "dead body" with kanji (死体), but Subaru responded with its spelling, written in hiragana, shitai (したい). This is an interesting take, especially when you consider how Subaru reacted after this...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The boy explained why cherry blossoms petals which are originally white turned into pink, and it was because the tree absorbed the blood of dead bodies under the tree. Subaru's response was to cry and ask "wouldn't the people under the tree feel hurt?".
To those who thinks Subaru was just too innocent so he responded like that, please remember that this is Subaru. He was trained to be an onmyoji, a medium who can interact with spirits and helped them to gain salvation aside from the other spiritual works. But in the same time, he was still a child at that time. Children at his age couldn't grasp what "death" means well; and even more for Subaru who was trained to deal with dead spirits too. For him, probably, living and dead spirits aren't different--both are "alive". Which resulted in his "innocent" response: he didn't say it like "wouldn't the body/the dead feel hurt?" but "wouldn't people under the tree feel hurt?", as if those who are under the tree were living so they can feel hurt. It was scary yet sad in the same time.
Tumblr media
The boy was surprised by Subaru's response and told him to make a "bet" with him. But Subaru couldn't hear it well and the meeting ended with the boy said "For this time, I will let you go". You dumbass falling in love with a young child.
Then, we get to see a gorgeous Subaru in shikifuku, sleeping while thinking who that person was.
Tumblr media
Then after the title page, we got to see Subaru chased a crow shikigami in Ikebukuro Station, and Subaru got to meet Seishiro here. He fell on the platform and you got to see Seishiro (and the crow) was surprised when he fell 😭 then Hokuto laughed at him so hard.
Tumblr media
Subaru with pets is always a feast for the eyes ☺️ Look at how he handled the cat in love even when he fell from the chair! Such dedication!
Tumblr media
Then we got this one certain triangle man said "That time in Ikebukuro isn't our first time. I met Subaru-kun in the far past, don't you remember it?", all in keigo and it tickles me. Stop the formalities, and stop being so fishy, please.
Subaru was, however, concerned by his words---either hypnotized or reminded of something. Seishiro said it was a joke but uh oh, my boy.
Tumblr media
My boy took his words as serious---he got a hunch. And here he said that he couldn't differentiate whether the thing happened undert that cherry blossom tree was a dream or reality. He eventually blurted out, "who is that person again?", as if he was trying to recall his memories.
HOKUTO. MY GIRL. HAS NOTHING OF THAT. Which leads us to this panel...
Tumblr media
Hokuto called Subaru a cheater for thinking about another man while he has Seishiro in front of him 🤣🤣 But Seishiro's response was "It's okay, Hokuto-chan. After all, I'm just a part of shadow/shade". This part is interesting because in the next panel, we saw Seishiro talks about him being a vet doesn't suit Subaru who has a bright future ahead, which doesn't make sense.
So, the line Seishiro used here is 僕は日陰の身 (boku wa hikage no mi), which means as I wrote above. Words hikage itself means either shadow/shade, and mi means body. This phrase means "a person who can't appear on the outside world". Don't you get reminded of a certain someone? Interestingly, while searching for the meaning of this phrase, I came across a word hikagesha which means a social outcast or a person with shady past. Befitting this person.
The translation I read translated this line to "Seishiro doesn't have a good body", but that doesn't make sense if we considered the next panel which talks about him as a vet. And since the theme of this chapter was pretty much Seishiro being shady (or if I must say, literally revealing himself to Subaru and Hokuto), the translation was probably also confused about this line as well.
The more I read the original version, the more interesting this manga can get. Oh my.
I hit the 10 pictures limit so check the reblog to see the continuation!
