finished my replay of zestiria a few days ago and something that's been really on my mind is just how incredibly hard all of this must have been for mikleo in particular. we all know the tragedy of mikleo waiting multiple centuries for sorey to come back but what about the immediate tragedy. he literally lost zenrus right before the final showdown and then he loses sorey right after. the two people he's known as long as he can remember. both of them snatched away from him in one fell swoop. what must that have been like for him? he still has the rest of the party, but they aren't what gramps and sorey were to him. the extent to which he can emotionally lean on them for support is just not as great. so he probably had to bear most of the grief by himself. and of course he knows sorey will probably be back in some form, but he also knows it will be longer than he can imagine. lonelier than he can imagine. and what can he do while he waits? elysia isn't really elysia without gramps. without sorey. exploring ruins isn't as thrilling without sorey. seeing new places, meeting new people, adventuring? sorey is what made all that special. what can mikleo do without sorey? a thousand years is a long time.

something that's even more tragic to me is that i know mikleo would sacrifice himself in a heartbeat to help sorey. he knew the risks involved with being used by seigfried in that way and he didn't care one bit. he'd throw his life away without question if it meant sorey would be able to accomplish his goal. and instead, he's cursed to live on. muse is dead. zenrus is dead. sorey is in stasis for so long he may as well be dead. only mikleo remains, cursed to survive. cursed to walk the earth for all of eternity, cursed to lose everyone he loves. cursed to loneliness, as he waits for a day that may never come. a foil for heldalf, although this is a curse of circumstance rather than of malice. and i just. i can't imagine what that must be like. to have lived your whole life with people and then to suddenly have them all taken from you at once. how do you even go forward at that point? how can you carry on?

but he did. he waited something like a thousand years, and he never gave into his grief. he never succumbed to malevolence. he lived a hundred lifetimes, all alone, and he stayed pure and holy. and sorey really did come back for him. all that loneliness, that heartache, that waiting, was all worth it in the end. and i'm crying

So I'm not going to compare you to Sam West, I promise. And you don't look like him especially. But damn me if you haven't done a fantastic job of catching how he specifically looks when he is playing Seigfried Farnon. Even in a still you've got the stance and expression nailed as well as the clothes. No need to post or answer this, unless you want to. I've just been admiring that particular cosplay for awhile and this seemed like a good time to say so.

Sam West and I don't look alike, and yet we both look like Siegfried Farnon, which is joyfully hilarious to me. Because the character has been my blorbo since I was 10 and the coincidence is delightful + very gender affirming for me.

I hope I've made folks aware that the book and shows (both of them) are very dear to me, like it is dear to other fans I've attracted/converted.

So, we are in a space we've mutually carved out to enjoy that! I'm doing a deliberate Bit by cosplaying Siegfried, knowing how much his book version has shaped my own personality quirks, and it's a fun thing to lean into when everyone is on the same page. And by god there will be a sea of photos once I get to some local farms.

All I ask is that folks not tag Sam in on Twitter on my behalf, so I can control the narrative of whether or not I want to fangirl to him directly. 😅

Is he not like a Demigod in the manga? The first one we saw even, as the Demons asked. Which side he is as "half-god and half-human" Which i think mean he was born that way. Or was of Divine blood and awoke later stronger blood. I mean, Odin did had a child with a Human, 5 wife. So i think, demigods done normal could work. Just most don't accept them or ignore them or don't make them

I think it just called him "Dragon-Slaying Hero" and I don't think they have specified exactly what he is. I am not planning to have him be a son of Odin though. Even if he was a descendent of Odin he is far enough removed that I would not still count him as inheriting Odin's anything, much less divine powers.

Anyway, the whole descendant of Odin thing comes from the divine-right-of-kings bit in the prose eda. In this Odin supposedly had a son to rule six kingdoms. Frankly, I find that these kinds of King-making stories are often convoluted justifications for different rulers and contradicted by both historical knowledge and other myths, thus my refusal to include them in my work. I suppose the one interesting thing from that story is that it makes the Volsungs and thus Seigfried, French.

WHERE  SECRET  PASSIONS  LIE,   SEIG'S  ...   well, it  lands  between  the  artfully  placed  strokes  of  paint  on  canvas.   he  could  spend  hours  staring  at  one  painting,  finding  himself  drawn  to  a  particular  one  of  a  swan  on  a  lake,  an  abnormal  amount  of  time.  the  effects  this  night  had  on  them  all  surely  brought  to  the  surface  many  memories  they  all  seemingly  passed  off  for  dreams,  but  confronted  by  that  painting  once  more  hung  above  the  sign  up  sheets,   seig  can't  help  but  feel  a  tickle  of  truth  climbing  up  the  nape  of  his  neck.

Ezekiel had always had a secret love for the arts and musicals so he was fairly excited about tonight. It was a night that actually warranted him to dress more fancy than his usual gym clothes and comfy hoodies so he decided to really push the boat out. Donning a flashy orange and black coloured tuxedo and a similar coloured mask he arrived a little late. Grabbing a drink from the bar and spotting the sign up sheet for the musical at the centre of the room.

He had never thought of himself as musically, choreographically or in any way artistically gifted, but he'd always wanted to be on stage, and he'd also do anything to help out in other ways. As he put his name down on the page he turned and looked to the person stood by, not paying much attention by the looks of it.

"So are you signing up? I could definitely see you starring in a musical." He said honestly. Taking a swig of his drink, knowing the alcohol was already getting to him.

Sorry Canon Descendants TLM 3 is taking a while, it's been a long couple weeks in Real Life Land and I've been feeling a little burned out when it comes to working on longer stories, but I promise I'll try and finish it before the end of the month 😅

Till then I had some fun designing a Disney version of Swan Lake, designed from different Swan based Disney things, such as performers in parades and floats and such. So here's Odette:

I also included a new character, who’s actually an old one from an earlier version of the Swan Lake plot before it was finalized into the one we know in the ballet, Odette’s evil step-mother, who seeks to harm her but cannnot as long as Odette wears her magical crown. So here’s Lady Esuvilda, the sister of Von Rothbart.

The plot I’ve thought of for this retelling would be a combo of the ideas from the original stepmother plot and the one we know and would go something like this:

"Many years ago, Odette’s father, Sir Hugh de Ledacouer met and fell in love with the beautiful swan maiden Avatta, the daughter of King Cobhame, a fairy King. Against her father's wishes, for he knew how fickle human men are, Avatta rejected her immortality and married Hugh, giving birth to Odette.

Soon after, Hugh betrayed Avatta with the Lady Esuvilda, causing her to die of a broken heart, as is the consequence of a fairy who has given up their immortality for a mortal. Sir Hugh married the Lady Esuvilda, and entranced by her he neglected his daughter. But such was her jealousy of Odette that she attempte to destroy the girl. When she was prevented from killing her by the magic of Odette’s grandfather--who gives her an enchanted crown to protect her from such attempts--Esuvilda turns to her brother, the enchanter Baron Von Rothbart.

Unable to harm the girl due to her magical crown, he could still trap her in the form of a Swan, (due to her Fairy heritage) until such a day as a mortal man would declare unwavering love for her--a stipulation added specifically to give her as little hope of release as possible, in the face of her father's betrayal of her mother.

Odette and her ladies in waiting who were also enchanted by Rothbart, manage to escape to an enchanted lake which her grandfather created high in the mountains, which allows them to turn back to humans at night if they’re on it. Rothbart, who stalks the edges of the Lake, covets Odette’s beauty, and seeks to find a way to steal her protective crown and claim her as his own."

And from there it would go pretty much how the Ballet goes, Seigfried finds the Swan Maidens, and being a shy young romantic falls in love with Odette very quickly, but Odette would be very hesitant to believe him or return his feelings due to her distrust of love after what happened to her mother, so Siegfried would really have to work hard to get her to trust him and see he's truly sincere in his feelings and desires to free her and the others.

I think I'd maybe make Odile a semi-reluctant assistant to her father and aunt. She doesn't really like them and they don't treat her well, in fact she gets along much better with the Swan Maidens (maybe one in particular) but she doesn't want to fully take their side as she's afraid of being on the other end of her father's wrath.

Odette probably gives up her magic crown willingly after she thinks Siegfried has betrayed her (Rothbart probably makes it look/sound like he chose Odile willingly) and decides to give it up so that she can die and so free her friends from the Swan spell as it's linked to her.

Of course this would be a Disney Movie so it'd be a happy ending but if HOND can go that dark so can this.

Well I was really hoping it would be back sooner than that but its still exciting to get an actual date. Also, this particular part piqued my interest: "He certainly will have Mrs. Hall’s unconditional support. But in Season 3, she may be ready to open up to affection beyond her work family…and cricket."

But the "beyond her work family" part makes me wonder...Gerald or someone new? My hope, of course, is that her starting to open up her heart in any way is a stepping stone to her opening her heart ultimately to Seigfried.

Anyway, yes, I agree, I also think they were referring to Gerald. I don't like him, at all, but I am glad he's gonna have this role in Audrey's life. He will help her realise that she's ready to love again... but it won't be him.

I feel like she'll start questioning her role at Skeldale and her future, thinking about what the world could actually offer her. It's gonna be interesting. And Siegfried will probably freak out at the possibility of losing her.

I have no doubts that, in the end, she will choose Skeldale (and Siegfried, of course!).

I wish I could sing along to this cause it's so good. The chorus makes me want to rock out and the guitars are sick.

The album this is from wasn't actually discussed, it was Nish Kumar's reccommendation but it is from 2016 and it is really good! Dreamy blends of super laid back verses and a more upbeat chorus. Perfect for those days when it's really sunny and that's enough to make you super happy.

I think this song is already well known but for good reason. It feels so nostalgic even though I've only just heard it! Sort of song you'd listen to while staring out the window on a long, rainy drive and feeling #deep.

This album I had heard before and Seigfried was previously my favourite but I need to get back to listening to others cause they're all good. I think I just kinda relate to the mood in Seigfried. It's like he'd questioning what he's doing in life and reflects that numb feeling that comes with that. But I've actually put down White Ferrari cause that's also awesome and feels like that quiet feeling of calm acceptance when you've been down and you feel better for a moment. I honestly am saying both of these songs and to be honest the whole album.

This song is so relaxed but there's actually a lot going on so it's not boring. It's like an instant destresser if things are hectic this song is like a sanctuary.

Searchin III (4 Nothin Else) by Mndsgn

This one was Phil Wang's reccommendation but it is 2016 and oh booooy is it funky. I wanna dance so bad when I hear it. Chilled out, just funkin maaaaan.

Fire AND Fat by Mal Devisa

Yeah ok I'm doing two here but they're so different! I'm really mad this album isn't on Spotify cause that's how I listen and this is so good!! She has the most amazing voice and completely nails both styles which is madness. Fire is so soulful and warm and fuzzy and chilled. Fat is so badass and sharp and absolutely slaps.

I can't provide Spotify audio for the obvious reason and also I've hit the audio limit so that's it they're all the reccommendations

Honourable mention to Gabriel Ebulue's reccommendation of Set My Heart on Fire Immediately by Perfume Genius which isn't from 2016 but this whole album was an instant hit for me it's such an emotional ride I love it. I need to properly listen to it a few more times to have a favourite track.

Second honourable mention to If by Luna Dott Raids the Bee Pigeon. I can't resist a bit of chilled indie vibes and the singers are so good. It's the sort of song that can make having to walk in the rain poetic rather than a damp misery. This album is definitely mentioned at some point in the podcast and it is 2016. I'm sad this is not on Spotify.

Takumi is also the only prf-user in Fates who can't natively access his own named weapon, either, which is a...sword. A training sword, once more representing his insecurity and constant comparing himself to Ryouma

Ryouma's named weapon is an axe, being (once more) the weapon of a thug;

Leon's named weapon is a sword, very practically usable in his default class and also being the same weapon type as Seigfried; again, very tactical;

Marx's named weapon is a lance with the effect of crippling yourself, and I'm just gonna @ every goddamn Marx blog to come cry at that (@queenofnohr @thani-nuke )

Maybe you wanna "it's not that deep" @ me, but when it comes to stories you get what you put into it! If you're not gonna give Fates enough respect to think that a writer actively considered what the named weapons said about the royals, you'll never ever believe it's capable of anything decent and that's entirely your own choice.

A few days later, you found yourself looking out the window of a plane as it descended upon Korea once again. Looking back, Renjun and Mia were completely right and the few days the two of you spent at Mia’s cottage was very much needed.

You were able to breath, actually do work and work on the memorial piece for Xander which was going to be showcased at the end of training camp and also on opening night of Swan Lake which was going to be mainly for family and friends. The two of you were also able to explore the surrounding area, without your phones or any electronics at all and to be honest, it was exactly what you needed.

Feeling someone ruffle your hair, you looked up to see that Renjun had woken up and was currently looking at you with a tired smile. 

“Are we landing yet?” he asked and you nodded, stretching slightly, “Good, Soonyoung should be there to pick us up and we’ll head straight to SMAA.” 

“What are we doing there again exactly?” you asked, you knew that you were going to be judging auditions for the junior competition team that Soonyoung and Jeno were both going to be tag teaming once the performance team was done with Swan Lake. But you actually had no idea what it had to do with SMAA.

“Since a lot of the existing students, ie. you, me, Chenle, Jeno and Jisung are going to be participating with the Selects, we decided to hold auditions there as our last top. We’ll make the announcement to all the junior dance classes, then everyone has a week to prepare before we come back and hold auditions.” Renjun explained and you nodded slowly in understanding. 

“Interesting…” you said humming, “Does anyone else know that we’ll be present?” 

“Of course not.” Renjun said with a smile, “We’re here on official Selects business. Plus I haven’t turned my phone on since I last contacted Mia, letting her know that we were on the plane. How did you even forget we had this trip when you were already packing for it?” 

“I guess it slipped my mind with all the stress.” you said with a sigh and leaned on his shoulder, “Is it bad to admit that I’m afraid to see Jeno?” 

“Yes and no.” Renjun said linking his arm through yours, “But remember, no matter what happens. I got you. You got me.” 

“You got me. I got you.” you whispered back, closing your eyes briefly before opening them again and let out a sigh.

Within a few hours, Soonyoung had picked the two of you up and the three of you went for breakfast before stopping by your place (thankfully no one was at home) so you could freshen up. Renjun had requested that you wear the white dress and pink ballet flats that Mia had packed for you since there was a chance you’d be dancing today. Keeping your makeup to a minimal, you took a deep breath. Why were you even nervous? You should be more excited. 

Meanwhile at SMAA, classes were just beginning their session. Tzuyu was once again trying to talk to Jeno during class and after various conversations with Jaemin and Hana, he was giving her the straight cold shoulder which only caused her to push more. 

“Jeno, will you be having lunch with us today?” she asked sweetly, “I made you something since I noticed you haven’t been eating lately.” she said holding his arm.

Jeno shrugged her off before going to slide between Hana and Jaemin who had seen the whole interaction while Xiaojun and YangYang just rolled their eyes. This was typical Tzuyu behavior and Xiaojun in particular was annoyed by it.

Jeno looked up to the classroom door and thought he briefly caught the sight of two blonde heads but shook it off quickly. He was positive he was seeing things plus he hadn’t heard anything from Soonyoung so he was sure that said person wouldn’t be here today. 

“Have you heard anything from Y/N lately?” Jaemin asked and Jeno shook his head with a slight frown, “You said that she and Renjun were taking some time away from everything and everyone right?” 

“Yea, she said she’d call me when Renjun gave her her phone back but I guess they extended their trip.” Jeno said and Hana’s gasp caught his attention.

“Or maybe not.” she said, motioning to the door where three people stood, waiting to be let in by their instructor and both Jeno and Jaemins jaw dropped to the floor.

The three of you had already seen them, in reality, you actually saw this one girl whom you assumed was the infamous Chou Tzuyu, making a move on Jeno. It took a lot for you and Renjun to hold back your laughter when you saw Jeno not so discreetly scooch away from the girl to embed himself between the two love birds. Soonyoung was the first one to approach the instructor in the hallway, to let him know who you were.

“Everyone, I’d like you to turn your attention to the front of the room. We are really lucky to have some guest speakers today with some exciting news.” he started and motioned for the three of you to enter, you right in between the boys, “Some of you may or may not know who they are so I will let them introduce themselves. Lady, gentlemen, the floor is yours.”

The three of you looked at each other awkwardly, motioning for anyone to start. 

“You’re the leader.” you muttered to Soonyoung, “Do it.”

“How am I the leader? As of last week, we’re technically in the same position.” Soonyoung muttered back and you both heard Renjun let out a semi-frustrated sigh causing the two of you to inwardly smirk.

“You two are idiots. Move.” he said shoving you both slightly out of the way, which you happily did. “Good morning everyone, my name is Huang Renjun, I am the co-organizer of the Selects Performance Team and will also be playing Prince Seigfried in our production of Swan Lake which will be happening this year. I’m also technically a student with this academy but will be returning next year. With me, I have my lovely partner Y/L/N Y/N and Kwon Soonyoung. Who will have the honor of introducing themselves.” he started and motioned to you and Soonyoung to take the floor.

“As you guys heard E.T- I mean Renjun, my name is Y/L/N Y/N, some of you may know me as the transfer kid from earlier this semester. I’m one of the co-organizers of the Selects Performance Team and will also be playing Odette later this year with my lovely partner.” you said and nudged Soonyoung who quickly gave his introduction.

Once he was done, the two of you looked at Renjun who was looking back at you with nervous eyes, “So...Soonyoung? Care to explain why we’re here?”

“No, I think you got it. Just like how we practiced.” Soonyoung said with a grin, leaning back against the mirror.

“You’re doing great sweety.” you whispered giving him a large thumbs up and large cheesy grin, “Remember, I’m only here for emotional support.” 

Jeno, Jaemin and Hana had to hold in their laughter at the obvious discomfort of Renjun and the teasing from you and Soonyoung. Xiaojun, YangYang and Tzuyu were all frozen in shock. So this was the infamous Renjun and Y/N. YangYang and Xiaojun both thought that you were really pretty while Tzuyu only scoffed. You were nothing special to her.

Renjun let out a huff before turning around once more, a big smile on his face. “So as many of you may or may not have heard, we’re actually here because we’d like to let you know that due to student involvement within our organization; for the first time, we will be holding auditions for our Junior Competition Team. The team will be coached by Soonyoung over here and your former National Champion who has recently joined the ranks of the Selects Leadership Team, Jeno Lee.” he motioned to Jeno with a smirk as everyone stared at him in shock. This included Hana and Jaemin who had no idea.

Jeno did not expect this, so this was what Soonyoung was talking about. How he had to wait to be approached for his secret to be revealed. He could only stare at you when you started to speak and was surprised at how calm you were.

“Auditions will be held next week for two days. We’ll be holding auditions for two separate junior teams. For you ballet people out there, we will be holding ensemble auditions for Swan Lake and for everyone else, the Junior Competition Team will be looking for a total of fifteen members. Mind you, that’s fifteen members within three different schools. If you’re interested, please take a handout with all the information from your instructor after class.” you said and was surprised at how confident your voice was. 

“You will be judged by not only me, but Y/N and Renjun as well. Also, our special guest judge, Jeno Lee.” Soonyoung said with a bright smile. “If you have any questions, we’ll be here throughout the day.”

“Those of you who have third period advanced contemporary, prepare to hear this speech again.” Renjun said jokingly, “Thank you for your time.” 

“Also as a special treat. We would like to cordially invite you to our opening night at the O2 Theatre in London. This trip will be organized by your instructor so those who are interested, he will have the details shortly.” you said with a smile and bowed along with the other two as applause broke around you.

“Does anyone have any questions for the three of them?” the instructor asked and one person in the back raised their hand.

“Do you think you guys could show us what you’re expecting at the Performance Team auditions?” 

The three of you looked at each other while Soonyoung motioned to you and Renjun, “The floor is yours.” 

You turned to Renjun who was already looking at you and you raised your eyebrows as if having a silent conversation. 

“I got you.” he said, holding out his hand with a bow.

“You got me.” you said taking his hand, “Anything in particular?” 

“Memorial piece.” he said, handing Soonyoung his phone, “First track on my playlist.” 

Soon, a soft melody started playing on the speakers and all the students in the classroom could only watch as you and Renjun fell into your routine. 

Jeno recognized it instantly as the piece he had seen you and Renjun making all those weeks ago when you found out about Xanders passing. The white dress and your ballet flats along with Renjuns matching attire made it look like a professional performance. The song was about someone passing, you were obviously the main character since you took control of most of the dance but Renjun complimented you perfectly. With every lift, twirl and movement, it was almost perfect and he just watched in awe. This was the level that the Selects were expecting, this was the standard they wanted and you were the prime example. It was no wonder you were offered such a high position at a young age. What shocked him most was when Renjun lifted you over his head while doing a spin at the same time before placing you back on the floor and doing so once more but this time, he had you in a bridal carry. Your foreheads touched briefly before he put you back on the ground as you crumpled to the floor once more as the song ended. It wasn’t till then that he realized that he was holding his breath. 

“Shit…” he heard YangYang say from behind him.

“Wow.” Xiaojun whispered, “She’s really talented.” 

Applause erupted around the room minus a few as you and Renjun bowed/curtsied. 

“Wow, that was….” the instructor started and wiped a tear from his eye, “It was so beautiful yet emotional at the same time. I really felt the emotions coming from the both of you, especially you Y/N.”

“We’re dedicating our whole production to the son of the owner of the Selects Dance Academy.” you said wiping a stray tear, “We unfortunately lost him too soon and he was a close friend and mentor to us all.” 

“Well, thank you for that.” The instructor said with a bright smile, “Is there anything else you guys needed?”

“I..actually need to pull Jeno out of class for a meeting with the Headmaster. Y/N and Renjun I’m sure will be able to find something to do.” Soonyoung said with a smile. 

“Of course.” The Instructor said, “Thank you for coming and congratulations Jeno.”

“Thank you.” he said, quickly and almost excitedly getting up and grabbing his bag.

Once the four of you were outside the classroom, Jeno didn’t care. He didn’t care if the door was open or if anyone saw. He engulfed you in his arms and spun you around, gaining a giggle from you and laughter from the other two. The two of you had yet to talk since Renjun decided to take you away to the cottage but you were glad that things weren’t awkward between you. You didn’t realize how much you missed him until he had you in his arms and it took a lot not to let the tears that were stinging your eyes to release. 

“I missed you so much.” he muttered into your hair as he clung to you.

“Missed you more you big puppy.” you muttered, letting him literally squeeze the life out of you.

“Hate to break up the moment but the faster we have this meeting with the Headmaster the faster we can get our day going.”Soonyoung said, pulling at Jeno’s arm.

“Just say you’re jealous and be done with it.” Jeno joked, finally letting you go but kept an arm around your waist, “Where are you guys going to go?”  he asked looking between you and Renjun.

“Probably the NCT Practice room. A few of them should have spares so it’ll be nice to see everyones reaction.” Renjun said with a smile, “Let us know how the meeting goes and we’ll decide what to do after.” 

“Sounds great.” Soonyoung said, “Let go of the girl Jeno, we gotta go.” 

“B-but.” he started but Renjun gracefully pulled you out of the blondes arms.

“She’s mine now.” he snickered, wrapping his arms around your waist possessively, “The faster you get the meeting done the faster we can actually get out of here.” 

“Before you go…” you started looking between the three, “Was I the only one who didn’t get the blonde memo?” 

That got you questioning looks until the three of them looked at each other and burst out laughing. Soonyoung and Jeno were basically bleach blondes while Renjun had a tinge of purple to his but it was true, they were all blonde.

From inside the classroom, various eyes were watching you from the open door. Jaemin and Hana smiled at each other, they were glad to see the old Jeno slowly emerge. The shine he lost when you left was back. Xiaojun and YangYang watched in astonishment, they had no idea that Jeno was capable of smiling that large or acting the way he was but by the looks from Hana and Jaemin, this was his norm. 

Tzuyu however was fuming. Who did you think you were? Putting your hands all over Jeno like that and how did you manage to even get him to smile the way he was? Jeno was supposed to be hers, not yours. She’s been trying so hard to get him to talk to her, going as far as to make him snacks, lunch or anything to get his attention but he always rejected her. You would think that after so many times, Tzuyu would have given up. No, this only motivated her more and she wasn’t going to let someone like you get in her way.

Ah yes about birthright leo theres a cipher card depicting what king leo would be like after birthright and it's not great. If you look up Sorcerous King Leo in google you get the art but on the card it says "You should know that I have big plans for Nohr. I think a friendly competition with Hoshido will be good for us." Add this dialogue with the fact that hes holding both Seigfried and Brynhilder with his glowing red eyes. . .well it doesnt bode well for Hoshido

This is the cipher card mentioned here! And it is exactly as described, lmao. The title of the card is even “Sorcerous King of the Dark, Leo.” The quote on the card is “You should know that I have big plans for Nohr. I think a little friendly competition with Hoshido will be good for both of us.” So it can probably be extrapolated that Leo is not very happy with Hoshido even though he and Camilla have seemed to come to terms with their defeat and the newfound peace between the kingdoms at the end of Birthright. That, or Leo is trying to enact a lot of change and still being aggressive but peaceful with Hoshido still. Probably a combination of the two? Either way, there’s big change on the horizon.

Granted, the cipher cards are listed under the “non-canon” section of the FE wiki, so I’m not sure how definitively I’m supposed to take them. I’m barely familiar with the cipher cards as a concept, but multiple versions of each character do exist. There’s several Leo’s, several Elise’s, several Camilla’s, etc. Kind of like FE Warriors, but a little less goofy, lol. I don’t see any Xanders holding giant carrots, for example. So while this Leo card in particular is clearly based off the Birthright ending and Leo canonically helps enact big change in Nohr no matter the timeline (becoming the right hand man to Xander to enact change and becoming hated by the people for it in Conquest ending, for example, so this behavior is not completely out of line), you can probably take this card as seriously or not as you want.

Blonde- Frank Ocean IMOW

A track-by-track, emotion-based, “In My Own Words” review of Blonde by Frank Ocean

Although Blonde came out in 2016, the album didn’t resonate with me until the summer of 2017. I have a tendency to delay listening to albums until I feel like the “time is right”. I don’t ever force music on myself, i find that it ruins how the album actually sounds because of my current taste in music. Tastes evolve daily, as does music. 

Summer 2017 was a turbulent time for me. Still reeling from a breakup, I desperately lived from each blunt to the next. Drowning my sorrows in a lookout point in my town, alone, high. With every inhale and exhale, I temporarily forgot about the pain I endured that year. Blonde helped me heal, in a way. Although I didn’t truly recover until months later, Blonde was my technical “breakup album”. Putting all my frustrations from my ex into Frank’s dreamy, indie-r&b album. It was not until later that this album would shift its meaning for me.

Nikes- The lead single for this album provides a confusing memory for me. Being the first song released from this album, I was excited to finally get new Frank. I waited fucking years. Pressing play, I instantly thought I downloaded some shit ripoff of the song, being illegally downloading was all I did back in the day. Downloading different audio files all had the same end result. This song, however, grew on me. “I’m not him, but I mean something to you” hit me. Believing my ex left me for another person, this resonated with me. This was one of the many “Post-Work Crying On the Way Home I Need a Fucking Blunt” from that summer. One of Frank’s best qualities is the ability to switch from his soothing voice to laying down a fucking bar or two. He shows that talent well at the end of Nikes. Like many songs in this album, he is able to slowly transform a song into his own. Each song is like an adventure. 

Ivy- The original memory of this song is almost gone for me now. Fleeting is a sad memory of me trying to figure it all out. What went wrong. What went right, if at all. Now, it reminds me of my current partner. My ex and I never loved each other, although Summer 2017 Robert begged to differ. I know what love is now. My boyfriend provides that. “I thought that I was dreaming, when you said you loved me”. Frank’s vocals are unmatched in this song. No matter how hard I try to scream the end of this song, Frank sings it harder.

Be Yourself- Reminds me of my own mother

Solo- This song is very, rough around the edges. He raps it beautifully, but it takes its time. The jarring start to this song catches you off guard, he just quick starts it. Already states the name of the song in the first 15 seconds. But he beautifully transforms it into not just some rap/r&b song, but personally Frank. Dreamy, elusive. 

Skyline To- The lookout point in my town is accustomed to this song. I would always play this during a sunset while I was there. “This is joy, This is Summer”. Sums up how this song feels for me. Summer, the wind blowing the grass and leaves in the trees around me. I feel closer to God, the energies around me. Skyline Dr. is a street that is around the lookout point, as well as a street in the town my boyfriend used to live in. We would play this album almost every weekend together. It’s a good song to Feel 

Self Control- Even though this is one of the most powerful songs on the album, I didn’t resonate with it in the summer. I was so preoccupied by the songs on the B-side of the record that this was a afterthought. Dumb me. A few friends had the lucky opportunity to see Frank at Governor’s Ball in 2017. One of the friends posted how excited she was to listen to this song in particular. That post made me fall in love with this song. Appreciate it. I hope this makes you do the same. The 3:15 mark is all you need to know. It’s fucking stellar.

Good Guy- The gayest song on this album. Literally, it’s about him meeting a man. It’s short, sweet, but makes me feel proud. If Frank is gay, then fuck so am I. 

Nights- The song most people on Twitter enjoy. I am also “most people on Twitter”. This was the SONG of the summer for me, Blonde aside. It has everything. Fresh beat, fresh bar, and A FUCKING fresh transition. Best transition in a song, ever. You can’t compete. I still get goosebumps. This song exudes sex for me. Describes how an orgasm feels. A waterfall of emotions. I Know Every Line so I can’t post a lyric because it would be the entire song. Fuck. fuck. Fuck. The bass. I love bass. But, this bass after the transition made me rethink my entire life. This song is religion. It is everything my summer last year embodied. 

Solo (Reprise)- ANDRE 3000 ANDRE 3000 ANDRE 3000 I still can’t believe that Frank got that shit. I know they friends but, hot damn. Andre 3000 coming in with that “AYYEE”  is fucking wild. I wish I could rap this entire thing. 

Pretty Sweet- It’s an afterthought for me, honestly. I know I can’t disrespect Frank like that, but due to the fact that the songs that come after that impacted me that much. I skip every time

Facebook Story- skip, although relatable facebook story because I was the girl at one point in time

Close Story- This song is, for me, quintessential “Driving In Your Car” song. This and “30 Hours - Kanye West” define a road trip for me. I somehow feel as if I’m in a convertible car, in some desert, driving and care free. Maybe that video of SZA doing exactly that affected me, but still.  

White Ferrari- This was the song I first cried to from this album. A milestone for any Frank song. I remember leaving my night class freshman year, walking home. Seeing the sunset, being sad for whatever reason. Maybe I was homesick, maybe I felt like I wasn’t fitting in at college. It still makes me feel that way, that emotion that I felt. I feel the sting, still. 

Seigfried- This song was the one that affected me the most on the “Post-Work Crying On the Way Home I Need a Fucking Blunt” drives. I memorized every word. I would play this song straight from the mall, until it ended right before I passed the town square. I really fucking thought I sounded like Frank when I sang this. It’s one of the most powerful, raw, authentic songs on the album. He opens up, the beat itself is vulnerable. Letting you see this, side of him. I instantly have this vision of going to my apartment that summer. A single. All Christmas lights on, no clothes on. I felt liberated, but also felt so sad. The weed didn’t help. This song helped in ways I didn’t think it would. “This is not my life, It’s just a fond farewell to a friend” “I’d do anything for you, in the dark”. That line was my crying call. I would do anything to get my ex back. Now, it means nothing. I learned I can’t defend the demons of other people. 

Godspeed- Holy god damn. This song brings me to when my suitemate hooked up this song to his speaker and played it for the rest of us when it first released. My heart SUNK. He looked at me with this “yeah i know, right?”. I will always love you frank??? Damn. 

Future Free- This song was added after the while of the album being added. So, it didn’t resonate at all. It’s still a rad song. 

This album now reminds me of intimacy, love, and caring. All the negative emotions have been replaced. Frank’s best work to date, and with lack of tour dates to accompany this beautiful album, it makes me want more.
