sooo im cooking up my own take of the sees ryoji au and heres a sketchy preview + quick storyboard for a potential theurgy concept :’)))

working on this au has been so fun and made me realize how tragic his character really is. god i love ryoji to death (no pun intended)

weird swap au infodump incoming !!!

i was slightly anxious while thinking on other characters in the swap au but given i already made the decision to be a litte Weird with it i guess it’s not too much of an issue. everythings not really a 1:1 swap

not every single character has a swap because i want to center in on the primary cast. maybe that’ll change later and we’ll get ideas for less relevant characters and how we could change them around but for now try not to expect things like idk “ikutsuki and elizabeth swap” or some scary shit like that

i am admittedly struggling with what to do w the twins (the protags are twins in this au like with every other thing i make) outside of them still having the connecting line of losing their parents to an accident on moonlight bridge. they just didn’t get death sealed in them this time. but uh hey you don’t need that to happen to you for the events to result in Deep Issues. i think there IS something interesting there in that they wind up coming back to iwatodai all those years later, and they get roped into sees because of course they do. i think it’d be interesting to explore them through the lens of being normal party members at least. the only thing is that you don’t really get a solid ‘swap’ situation with them since mitsuru maintains some of their canon qualities while still not exactly moving from her typical role as heir to the kirijo group. more on that as me and the bestie talk details over

we actually are planning some pretty fun stuff with ryoji?? the wonderful thing is that ryoji is by all intents and purposes just a normal fucking guy in this au given all the appriser stuff goes to yukari. but as a general rundown here’s what he has going on

childhood friend to the twins, loves them dearly. was very sad when they moved after the accident, and overjoyed after they transferred back.

has a younger brother named pharos:)

the mochizuki family was close with the takebas, particularly eiichiro was close with them. you can imagine where im going with this. his death was a tragedy to them, but more than anything it spurs something on in ryoji as he grows older. the alignment of the accident resulting in eiichiro's death and the death of the twins' parents occurring in such a close span of time bothers ryoji. for something that had such a massive negative impact on the lives of two people that are insanely important to him to potentially have more behind it than meets the eye, it becomes a vague obsession. which of course, eventually leads him to sees.

his role replacing yukari in this au gives him a fraught relationship w mitsuru. his distrust is very…intimidating, because it’s not nearly as outright as canon yukari’s. when he’s pointing out inconsistencies in what info mitsuru lets them have, he’s calm, sporting a smile, but emitting coldness. mitsuru herself of course isn’t Unaware of the effect the kirijo group’s work has had on him, but i think being incapable of getting a proper read on ryoji a lot of the time definitely does her no favors.

next lets talk about aigis! i had a little too much fun adapting her.

taking after canon kikuno's role, aigis was a human child sold to the kirijo group. she has a naturally-awoken persona (something something ergo research offers a higher payout to her parents because of this)

after the failure of the persona experiments resulting in strega, aigis is adopted by a handful of scientists from ergo research (this is essentially a timeline where the events of aigis the first mission dont happen, at least not the same way. i figured itd be fun to give the characters introduced in that game an active role in this au). she lives in yakushima with them.

her upbringing has left her socially awkward and distant, and trust is hard for her to fully feel. the intention on behalf of her guardians was to make sure she wouldnt have to give herself to the group as a weapon if she didnt want to, while having a family that cares for her and is able to meet her needs as someone with a very unique situation. she accompanies them if they need to do something during the dark hour because shes capable of protecting them with her persona.

aigis is still recruited to sees during the yakushima trip. a la the movie, she protects mitsuru and ryoji from a hoard of shadows after they leave the kirijo estate at night without their evokers. knowing of sees due to how long shes been in proximity to the group, she asks to be transferred into their unit so that she can help directly combat the dark hour so it wont be a danger to her family anymore. she would still very much view herself as a weapon raised by the kirijo group despite her adoptive family trying so hard to help her unlearn it. she experiences some pushback about it of course because its inadvertently feeding into something she is meant to be unlearning, but she wants strongly for it so its not like they can fully deny her.

thats everything we've got cemented so far...we still have to figure out the other members of sees that need swapping but for now you can have these doodles. a kiku + some concepts for human aigis and non-protag femc

wait i just remembered i wanted to talk abt twst/p3 au. i have Thoughts. under the cut for massive p3 spoilers LOL

malleus is ryoji. he's not pharos but he's ryoji. instead of having a kid inside u he is just around and no one can see him until u unite all the shadows and hten he transfers into your school and mc is like (.....?) idk if there would ever be a part where hes a party member but he'd be light/dark/almight and only available during january/obviously not during the final boss but if u need help climbing tartarus all the way hes your guy

beyond that theres not really a strict one to one. magician/first social link is ace, deuce is the chariot. classmates and Default Persona User Circle Friends. ace is slashing (daggers) default and his persona abilities are single target agi/status ailments (charm/distress/fear)/dispels while deuce is blunt (His Fists) default and then single target bufu/phys attacks/team buffs. i think ace is strong against fire/weak to ice and vice versa for deuce LMFAO

leona party member....... garu/mudo/enemy debuffs i wanna say LOL slashing damage (sword?) and older than the protagonist. a bit shinji coded in the sense he shows up later as a former member who left but i dont think he dies. maybe he does tho id have fun with that LMFAO

kind of want vil to be the og leader but since i was also thinking abt slashing (rapier) + bufu/charm/heals i realized that thats literally just mitsuru and idk how i feel abt that. ill keep turning that one over

ortho as an anti-shadow weapon and idia as a persona-user who can't physically fight was the concept i had........ i was considering making them into one single unit but it might be nice to have one of them for a while nad then later on u get the other. prolly idia > ortho w/idia as support?????? definitely piercing (gun/spear for idia i think).... i think idia would be agi...... ortho also agi i guess? maybe almighty attacks but w/a low sp growth rate so its always a gamble as to whether u should use it LOL i think it might also be fun if idia knew what defeating all the shadows would do but didnt say anything and let everyone think that they could end the dark hour by destroying them LOL

i also realized that i didnt have any second years nad i honestly think it might be silver. sebek would be good also but silver........ hama/heals/phys attacks....... slashing/sword definitely LOL probably knew malleus at some point..........

looking at this maybe ill go make malleus or leona piercing. or i can just put rook in there (piercing, zio/phys dmg skills/buffing) and call it a day LOL

Mitsuru taking care of a baby out of necessity with someone else of S.E.E.S. for a short yet stressing period of time; it would not be hers in any way, it could be a friend’s one or even one other member’s of S.E.E.S.’s. the situation, being as awkward as it sounds like, would make a funny thread. she’s always looked like the group mom but i imagine her being done with a small child in the very first three minutes ahaha.

middle school days, with original S.E.E.S. figuring out what it means to share living spaces and finally forming the bond that will keep them united till the tragedy of Ken’s mom happens.

summer festival with S.E.E.S. some members !  honestly, i swear it’s never given too much importance while it remains perhaps the turning point, if you think about it; after the summer festival, ALL goes downhill. it’s their last moment of happiness, as the movie and stage plays really show more than the game, and i am up for all its feelings and fun.

being trapped with someone in Tartarus for a couple of days and the fear of not finding a way out??? the Reaper chasing them down ???  good stuff.

bad ending !!  protagonist kills Ryoji in the last day of the year and his words come true: unaware they won’t see the next spring season, S.E.E.S. lives in a happy illusion as the world around them crumbles and they can’t quite recall of their promise and will to fight. sad blissful days as the world ends and their own lives are consumed by Nyx.

other bad ending !!  Mitsuru ends up marrying her fiancé soon after graduation and losing her Group’s inheritance rights. other party visits her after a while to see if she’s okay -- spoiler: she’s not.

teach her how to cook something decent and she’ll be always in your debts. or just make her try food/street food she never experienced if you can.

I mentioned the involvement of some of the p3 and p4 cast in some of my previous P5 Hogwarts AU posts (Parts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 plus Kazusakai’s fic are linked), But in this post, we delve deeper into how they tie into Akira’s story.

Special thaks to @delphine-le-dauphin for helping me sort them and assign post-Hogwarts jobs for everyone.

Spoilers for P5, P3, and P4!

Background: After Goro’s betrayal and Yaldabaoth’s takeover of the Ministry of Magic (in which the purebloods in the ministry appointed Shido as Minister), Akira and the others start to look for ways to take down a dark wizard like Yaldabaoth and their quest leads them towards looking the defeats of Adachi and Nyx that happened many years prior to their. They then track down the P3 and P4 casts, who had all, by the time Akira was in his 6th year, graduated from Hogwarts and working, save for Nanako.

Although the quest and search for information and answers was way less straightforward and organized and would have them meeting and talking to a lot of the P5 co-ops as well, listed below are the roles of the P4 and P3 party members (as well as tidbits about their time in Hogwarts).

P4’s investigation team

-          Yu Narukami: (formerly Gryffindor), The leader of the group and quite popular among the student body during his time at Hogwarts, he later became an auror after graduation.

-          Yosuke Hanamura: (Formerly Gryffindor), Yu’s best friend (also rumored to later be his boyfriend, although he neither confirmed nor denied it due to being very private about his relationships especially to strangers). After graduation, he later would move in with Yu and become a business manager of Zonko’s.

-          Chie Satonaka: (Formerly Gryffindor), her work on investigating the Hogwarts Murders would lead her to want to become an Auror like Naoto and Yu. She finds Akira & Co’s determination quite admirable and she eagerly provides information when needed. On a side note, a LOT of people notice that she will go to Yukiko’s inn QUITE OFTEN, enough to the point where she’ll sometimes even make excuses to go.

-          Yukiko Amagi: (Formerly a Hufflepuff) After graduation, she followed in her mother’s footsteps and became an innkeeper in Hogsmeade. She was one of the first people that Akira and the others talked to about the murders as she was a very prominent kidnapping victim

-          Kanji Tatsumi: (Formerly Hufflepuff) After graduation, he became a robes tailor and set up shops in both Diagon Alley and a smaller one in Hogsmeade (robes tailores by him became quite a popular choice among many wizards and witches once Naoto began frequenting his shops). During his Hogwarts days, he was known to seem quite scary especially to his other fellow Hufflepuffs, and he reacted in quite a bit of an offended knee-jerk reaction when Akira and the others asked him about his involvement with the case. (“The hell do you mean ‘my involvement with the murders?!?!’ I Didn’t do ‘em!” “We didn’t say you did Mr. Tatsumi, we know you were a part of the investigation team and we need your help.”)

-          Rise Kujikawa: (Formerly Hufflepuff) She was a teen pop idol sensation among the wizarding world when she was still a student at Hogwarts but post-graduation, she continued on her career as a singer. The Hogwarts Murder Case got worldwide attention when she was kidnapped and later found by the Investigation Team trapped in the Forbidden Forest. Her newspaper interviews about her involvements in the exposure and capture of Adachi Tohru would provide many leads for Akira and the others to follow.

-          Naoto Shirogane: (Formerly a Ravenclaw), the most well-known Auror of the bunch, she was known widely as the “Youngest Auror in History” when she was appointed an Auror position at age 17 (a title that would later be usurped by Goro years later when he got appointed as an Auror at age 16 despite still being a Hogwarts student due to “Special Circumstances”). She has worked with Goro on some cases before, and thus provides a wealth of knowledge for the P5 party as to where to find him as well as any information about past cases like the Hogwarts Murders, although she is QUITE HESITANT to do so at first as they are all just kids and this is dangerous business until she reconciles with herself and reasons that she was doing the same thing at their age and she wants to see Yaldabaoth stopped. She also is one of the first people who provides the P5 party with some actual helpful leads about the Nyx Catastrophe.

-          Teddie Hanamura: (Formerly a Hufflepuff) An easygoing Metamorphagus (and a Bear animagus) he’s not ACTUALLY Yosuke’s younger brother, but he was adopted into the family at a young age after he was found lost without any memories whatsoever. The rest of the IT would note that his animagus capabilities proved to be of much help whenever they navigated the Forbidden Forest.

-          Nanako Dojima: a 2nd year Hufflepuff at Hogwarts when Akira is in his 6th year, Akira tries to ask her if she knew anything about the work her father did on the Hogwarts Murder case. She doesn’t know much as she was quite young when it happens, but she does unknowingly hint that her big brother seemed to know quite a bit about it despite him (to the best of her knowledge) not having any involvement with the case.

SEES:

The quest for answers about Adachi leads to more questions about a previous Dark Lord named Nyx who had just two years prior to the Hogwarts Murders attempted a takeover of Hogwarts and the Wizarding World to try and destroy it, at least until the P3 cast stopped Him. The battle and events leading up to the battle  (and even some events that had happened ten years prior) left many dead or permanently injured as well as left an enormous amount of trauma to themselves, their friends, and their families, which meant getting information from many of the cast members would be proven to be quite difficult as it would bring up painful memories for a lot of the SEES members (some of whom would react with quite a bit of hostility to Akira & Co.’s inquiries before finally acquiescing and helping them provide answers).

-          Minato and Minako Arisato: (Hufflepuffs), Although long dead by the time Akira and the others hear about them, the Arisato twins were all spoken of fondly by their friends when they recall their memories with them. They will also recall sadly the sacrifice they both made with their lives in order to stop Nyx during the final battle.

-          Junpei Iori: (Formerly a Gryffindor), Minato’s best friend, He would later become a professional Quidditch player.

-          Yukari Takeba: (Formerly a Gryffindor), She was very close with Minako, she also, like Junpei, become a famous professional Quidditch player, and the two still make (humorous) jabs at each other whenever they’re at a press conference together despite Yukari serving in the Women’s League and Junpei in the Men’s League

-          Mitsuru Kirijo: (Formerly a Ravenclaw), Hailing from a VERY PROMINENT wizarding family, she was The Minister of Magic until the takeover of Yaldabaoth and Shido’s forceful appointment, she was later put under house arrest by Yaldabaoth’s supporters. Akira and the others would later free her and  before she goes into hiding, she offers them valuable information about the battle with Nyx and the efforts SEES made to take down their organization

-          Akihiko Sanada: (Formerly a Gryffindor), Although he was quite popular with the ladies in the student body and the captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team during his time at Hogwarts, after an incident involving Shinji (see below) caused him to start to withdraw from grief after graduation. He would end up spending a lot of time traveling the world in solitude and challenging wizards and witches alike in duels to keep his magic sharp until he would later become an Auror. When Akira and the others ask him about his involvement with the Nyx Catastrophe, he at first reacted in a VERY STRONG and VERY NEGATIVE way because it brought up extremely painful memories.

-          Shijiro Aragaki:  (Formerly a Hufflepuff), Akihiko’s friend from Childhood, his gruff demeanor was often seen as scary to his fellow Hufflepuffs (much like Kanji), but in his seventh year, a skirmish with a group of magical assassins known as Strega (Jin and Takaya, but at this point, Chidori was no longer part of the group) ended with him protecting Ken by blocking a killing curse with a mirror that Minako had gifted him, but the force of the spell would cause the mirror to shatter and cause a shard to pierce into his skull and into a crucial part of his brain, causing him to enter a comatose state, which, despite any number of Muggle and Magical treatments, would not reverse, and he has been kept in a ward in St. Mungo’s Hospital ever since.

-          Fuuka Yamagishi: (Formerly a Hufflepuff), Shy and bookish, Fuuka became an office worker in the Ministry of Magic, carrying out bureaucratic file-sorting duties that were quite her speed. She also tinkers with and makes clocks on the side, which although rare, do fetch good prices. She provides information to the P5 party about the stat weaknesses and analyses of the different magical entities that her and the rest of SEES ran into and fought as she thinks it might help the P5 party know what they could possibly be up against

-          Ken Amada: (formerly a Gryffindor), the youngest of the team, he was a student at Hogwarts who was two grades higher than Akira’s year and graduated a year ago.  

-          Aigis: Unlike the others, Aigis is a Veela and she acts as a groundskeeper of the school as well as the Care of Magical Creatures professor as she is quite good with animals. Her magical abilities would prove to be of much help to SEES in order to take down Nyx, and she was said to have shared a close relationship with the Arisato twins (Some would even say that she had a very intimate bond with Minako).

-          Ryoji Mochizuki: (Slytherin), Ryoji shared a very close relationship with the Arisato twins during his time at Hogwarts (some would even say his relationship with Minato was quite intimate). However He’d later reveal to the P3 cast that he was serving as a Vessel for Nyx (similar to what Professor Quirrell did in “Philosopher’s Stone.”). As he served as a vessel for the Dark Lord, he ended up dying when the P3 Party defeated Nyx in the final battle.

-          Koromaru: Ken’s pet dog, he grew to be too big to keep in the Gryffindor dorm so he was moved to the groundskeeper’s house and put in the care of Aigis, but Ken visited him daily when he went to Hogwarts and after he graduated, he and Koromaru were proven INSEPARABLE.

After Ryoji finds his resolve through the Hero, he offers to join his team. He gives him a choice to go through a better, yet harder way to get through Tartarus, a way only he can access. It features new bosses, content, and a new spin of the final fight with Strega.

This AU explores the idea that instead of Ryoji leaving for the last  month, he offers to join the team as a temporary team member to lend his power to help SEES reach the remaining floors of Tartarus before he merges with Nyx. More events happen that prolong the time you spend together. 

Ingame, it’s treated like a bonus mission and an addition to get to know Ryoji better during the aftermath of November. 

As a new addition to the team, he’ll join SEES in the dorm and have his own version of FTEs with plant tending, movie watching, book reading and cooking. He’ll have interactions with other party members. 

The player will also get to know more on his personal feelings as the Appriser. Through conversing with Ryoji, you learn in depth about Tartarus, and the player gets to see a more subdued side of him as he tries to come to terms with his identity. 

He uses an evoker to trigger his form as Thanatos instead of using it to summon a Persona.

The player can choose to go through this route, or play the game like how it was originally set. The ending remains the same.

Party Stats:

Level: Scaleable, 2 levels higher 

Element: Dark and Almighty

Weakness: None, reflects pierce damage 

Combat style: Prioritizes debuffing, tank 

Theurgy - Death’s Call: Deals massive almighty damage to all foes. Fears both enemies and allies. 

Theurgy condition: When Ryoji sees his friends suffer a lethal blow, he feels determined to take vengeance.

Theurgy Personality bonus:

Chance to grant Arcana Burst even without completing your Major Arcana stack.

+ More damage to weak foes. 

Intercepts an incoming lethal blow for a party member.

Fuuka: I’ve always wanted to do karaoke with you all. You should join us, Ryoji-kun!

Aigis: Ryoji-san. Were you the one making those sounds?

Ryoji: I’m sorry, Junpei. But I promise it’s just a little longer.

Mitsuru: Are you settling in the dorm well, Ryoji-kun?

Ken: Did anyone hear footsteps in the boys’ dorm last night? 

Yukari: Must have been Aigis sneaking to Makoto’s room, even if I told her to not leave past curfew…

Aigis: It was not me. I was out for my monthly checkup.

Yukari: Unless you wanna blind someone with that thing, there’s no good reason to wear it!

Ryoji: There were so many couples on Paulownia Mall for Christmas Eve. It was lovely to see.

Junpei: Ooo, does our newest member have a special someone they have in mind?

Ryoji: I-I wouldn’t say that..

Junpei: Hahaha! You’re like a tomato right now, dude! 

Ryoji: Hey, knock it off!

Yukari: I won these chocolate bars, I brought them in case anyone wanted a snack. Want some? 

Ryoji: Oh, that’s okay. I don’t eat sweets that much.

Mitsuru: I have to say it was quite convenient for the Kirijo Group to have an extra weapon. 

Ken: Yeah, and what’re the odds it was a scythe too?

Aigis: Koromaru-san is asking that if you’re Death, what will that make of the Reaper?

Junpei: I bet Ryoji here can take him down, no problem! 

Ryoji: I’d rather not stick around to find out. For your sakes.

Ryoji: I was told you lost a close friend to the Dark Hour. I’m sorry for your loss.

Mitsuru: …Thank you, Ryoji-kun.

Akihiko: He’d want us to move forward. There’s no use dwelling in the past.

Ryoji: I guess you’re right. I’m here to help however I can.

Junpei: Hey… you think Koromaru sensed Ryoji’s true identity? 

Ken: Oh, do you mean because  of dogs’  intuition to ghosts and spirits? 

Fuuka: I don’t think Ryoji-kun’s just any ghost though..!

Ryoji: Hey Takeba-san. Can I ask you something?

Yukari: I swear, if it’s you trying to ask me out again…

Ryoji: Oh, that’s not what I was gonna- Wait, do you want me to? Because-

Mitsuru: -I think I saw something important there, leader. Let’s check it out.

Ryoji: This feels too familiar.
