When it comes to atheism and it's political impact is that people seem to act like the United States is France or even the United kingdom when it comes to atheism's popularity or controversy.
#me rambling#i was shocked at how low the amount if atheists in yhe us#also how negative the label was seen even in gen z#im sorry but there is a lot more to be said in europe about racism and the liberal#'enlightnment' narrative and islamphobia#see the way france uses the seperation if church and state on muslims in schools and public work#then the united states where even the concept of removing the 'biblical values' from schools can sway your average parent

So France has a very clear divide between the state and religion which is great and all, religion should not be the justification for the state doing anything
The problem is, they use this divide to be Islamaphobic
We can't let people wear Hijabs because of a divide between the state and religion, excuse me but what
That is tying religion to the state but in a negative way for the religion, it is making sure the state interferes with a religion
I get that a Hijab is a symbol of Islam but unless you are banning nuns from wearing a habit, Christians from wearing a cross, yin and Yang as commonly used imagery and so on you can not ban the Hujab because you are singling Islam out from all other religions, you are making a specific religion a state issue and interfering with that religion which by your own admission the state should not be allowed to do as religion should be seperate from the state
If your justification is that the Hijab is a covering you have to ban hats, turbans, hoods and anything else that could possibly cover a person's hair and head but you aren't
If your justification is that it makes identification difficult fails instantly because Hijabs leave the face uncovered and easy to see, arguably it makes a person easier to see because there is no hair blocking your view of that person's face
If you then move on to criticising the Burka excuse you, we are currently living in a time of pandemic the Burka is designed to cover the mouth and nose, a practice that should be encouraged and with this pandemic meaning that you want people to wear masks the security issue of something covering most of your face is an issue we all face, the fact that the Burka covers slightly more doesn't really change anything because we all have so much of our face covered that it doesn't matter, your forehead was never gonna be your identifying feature
I get not wanting politicians to wear it but unless you are gonna withdraw support for every single politician that practices any religion it is racist and Islamaphobic to make it about Islam in particular
Hijabs are also a cultural thing, like with Europe and Christianity, large parts of the world practice Islam meaning that even if the individual themselves does not believe in Allah they might still follow Muslim practices because the religion is such an important of their country that those practices become part of the culture, it is why in Britain school dinners tend to serve Fish on Friday, why we celebrate Christmas and Easter and why people respect churches even if we don't believe in God. Undoubtedly the women wearing a Hijab will majority be Muslim but a Hijab being acceptable is culture and saying a Hijab is unacceptable is racist because it is rooted in the belief that only our culture is the way to go and that Christianity is the superior religion, it comes from a culture that makes fun of and belittles Islam and singling out the Hijab as a problem is not only Islamaphobic but racist in a time when we need more acceptance
Whilst this proposal is being made by racists and obviously there are protests being made against it by the people of France I just wanted to highlight the idiocy of it and come down against the racist politicians trying to use the divide between state and religion in France as an excuse to be racist
