Hylotelephium telephium (Atropurpureum Group) 'Xenox' (Syn. For the far easier to say and write Sedum ‘Xenox’) (Stonecrop). Today’s gorgeous #oneadayplant . Larger Sedum, now Hylotelephium (I’m not happy about that either) are excellent late season herbaceous perennials that are incredibly popular with bees and butterflies. 🐝 🦋 . Foliage on ‘Xenox’ and the more commonly seen variety of ‘Matrona’ is fleshy and a rich plum-purple colour. Neither flower as voluminously as green leaved forms, but do well enough and the foliage colour is worth being seen in its own right as well as a contrast to the flower. Pictured when fully open, they are a soft, shell pink colour, having opened a richer, pinky-red. . They die back to the ground or a small rosette of succulent foliage over the winter leaving the dried flower stems to persist over the winter. These are pretty and offer a little protection to the crown of the plant from snow and frost as well as seed for smaller bird species. . Compact and good for the front of a border, getting to 30cm (1’) or a little more in height and 45cm (18”) in diameter. Really needs a sunny spot and decent drainage to do well. I like this variety and the more colourfully flowered ‘Xenox Yellow’. . A good partner for Carex buchananii I always feel. I’d recommend planting spring bulbs around them to give you something to look at before they regrow. Scilla siberica, Puschkinia scilloides var. libanotica and Crocus tommasinianus look good when partnered with the emerging foliage in spring. . #sedum #sedumxenox #hylotelephiumxenox #xenox #foliage #herbaceous #perennial #sunlover #iplantsman #gardening #gardeningtips #plantingdesign #pollinators #polliantorgarden #pollinatorplants #plants #gardenista #gardeningaddict #stonecrop #pink #flowers #colourcontrast #autumn #latesummerinterest #bulbs #crocus #scilla #puschkinia (at Crowborough, East Sussex) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGuhN2XgJtd/?igshid=qrtz1yif6y7i
