Animal rights activist Vikendra Sharma videotaped the entire interaction and reported the defendants, which is how the unusual incident came to light. The cops removed the rodent's remains and brought it to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Bareilly for an autopsy. At the post-mortem, the rat's liver and lungs were discovered to have serious injuries, which may indicate that organ failure was the reason of his demise. Dr. KP Singh, Joint Director of the IVRI, claims that the rat had various ailments and did not drown to death.
