Hiya amazing you! I need to know- (/nf) out of the chapters of Ad Astra you've written so far, what's your favorite? :3 what have you enjoyed writing the most and/or which chapter has been the most fun to see reader's reactions? I really like when authors talk about how much fun they have when writing so I figured I would ask :)
Aaa hi!! Oh god let me think for a second — the one I would say I had some of the most fun writing and which also had the most fun reactions is probably chapter 8, which is the one where Scar made the deal. The collective SCAR NO from the comment section had me giggling for days it was great aksjsjjs
generally though I have a lot of fun with each chapter in their own ways, and it helps that I’ve always had something planned that I look forward to writing. Right now the thing I’m looking forward to the most is the rescue scene :3

________________________________________________________________If growing up in this kinda world taught Y/N anything, it was that regular people feared the unusual. She remembered all the lash back those with abilities got for their powers, for their lack of normalness. Y/N was determined not to be one of those people. She was not going to be one of those with their face plastered on every paper, billboard, poster, and on every form of social media imaginable, along with their name. People who never had privacy because everyone wanted to know them. People who were protested everywhere they went, people always trying to get the next scope on them. Y/N wasn’t going to be that person. The moment she discovered her powers, a glowing red plasma ball appearing in the centre of her palm, Y/N made a silent promise to herself to never show them, never use them if possible. Y/N wanted to live a normal, safe life. If people knew about her powers, that wouldn’t be a choice.
Even when helping Bruce and Jason with Batman and Robin, Y/N bit her tongue and never let it slip what she was capable of. No chance. No way. Not gonna happen. Y/N refused it.
That all changed the moment Y/N, along with Dick Grayson’s old friend, Clayton, from the circus were kidnapped by Nick Zucco. Clayton was hung over a barrel of a horrendous chemical which had scarred Nick’s own face. At the same time, Y/N was being used as a human shield for Nick, her hands and ankles were chained, but loose enough for Nick to move her to protect himself. Honestly, Y/N couldn’t remember how Jason and Dick rescued herself and Clayton. Y/N only knew three things, Clayton was scarred from the chemical, Y/N wasn’t, and Jason nearly was. Dick and Jason parted way with an argument. Dick took Clayton while Jason pulled Y/N out of the building.
“STOP!” Y/N yelled, yanking her arm out of his grip. Jason was still in his Robin uniform, having dragged Y/N down an empty ally where they could talk without being spotted or interrupted. Bruce had said to keep on the down-low, make sure others didn’t know Robin wasn’t in Gotham.
“Come on, Y/N/N, let’s just go.”
“We are not going to ignore the fact that you nearly got SHOT with a chemical that would have burnt a fucking hole in you!”
“Can we talk about this later?”
“NO!”
“Y/N, come on, you hate this kinda shit, being involved in the action, so let’s go back to the hotel where we can tell Bruce we’ll be coming back to Gotham,” Jason said, “we’ll talk about it all later.”
“Jason, you do this crap all the time,” Y/N threw her hands in the air, exasperated. “You put yourself in danger, and when I try to talk some goddamn sense into you, you change the subject, promising to talk about it later, but we never fucking do! Just this once we are talking about it, right here, right now!”
“Y/N… don’t do this…”
“You can’t keep doing this to yourself, Jason!” Y/N said, “Doing this to yourself! One of these days, it’s going to get you really, really hurt.” Y/N forced Jason to look her in her eye. She looked at his crystal blue eyes, highlighted by that black mask to hide his identity. Y/N would always know it was Jason under that mask. She knew those eyes. They were Jason’s eyes.
“I weren’t going to let that guy hurt you, Y/N,” Jason said softly, “you’re not like me, or Dick, or Bruce, who have the training and can protect themselves in these sort of situations. You’re not in the action.”
“You won’t be any good at protecting me if you’re dead, jackass!”
“I had my gear on, I was safe,” he insisted.
“That is beside the point, Jason!” Y/N said.
“I know what I’m doing,” Jason told her. She pushed her hair back and shook her head. Behind Jason, Y/N gasped as she saw that Nick had snuck out of the building and was heading towards them with his gun. Nick pointed the gun at Jason’s head and, as he stepped towards them, pulled the trigger without remorse on his face.
“WATCH OUT!” Y/N yelled, pushing Jason out the way as one of the acid bullets at them. Jason was no longer in the line of fire, the bullet was now heading straight to Y/N. Y/N lifted her hand up and closed her eyes. She knew that she, unlike Jason, could deal with whatever that bullet was. She had something he didn’t - powers. At that moment, though, Y/N didn’t care if she died, so long as Jason didn’t. She felt it happen before she could control it. Her powers came to the forefront. A fight or flight reaction. Even though she was frightened, Y/N forced her eyes open to look. The red plasma wasn’t a ball in her palm, but a massive glowing red wave that released itself from Y/N and pulsated forward. The wave completely dissolving the acid bullet into nothing and knocking Nick Zucco to the ground. The wave created a massive gust of air that sent Y/N backwards onto the floor while Jason hit the wall.
As Jason and Y/N heard the police coming, ones which Jason hadn’t beaten up, he pulled her to her feet, and they ran the opposite direction. Y/N looked over her shoulder quick enough to see the police grabbing Nick, causing her to sigh with relief. The last thing she needed was him coming after herself and Jason.
________________________________________________________________
Jason sat Y/N on the end of the bed and told her to stay put as he changed. Y/N couldn’t believe it. Hiding it all since she was twelve and then it was gone at the snap of a finger. Jason knew what she was, what she could do. No doubt he would tell Bruce and Alfred. No doubt someone would listen to Nick Zucco in prison, even if they didn’t know who she was or what her name was because Zucco didn’t. Y/N was just ‘other Robin’s bait’ to him.
She couldn’t find it in herself to move. All Y/N did was stare at the wall opposite, her hands placed firmly on the quilt.
“How long have you had it?” Jason asked. Y/N snapped her head to look at him, eyes wide. She hadn’t even noticed he was back in the room, wearing jeans and a top.
“Huh?”
“Come on, I know you well enough to know that you aren’t that stupid to throw me out the way if you couldn’t protect yourself.” Jason stood in front of her, looking at her with a strong intensity behind the eye. “How long have you known about them?”
“I was twelve,” she mumbled. There was no point in hiding it anymore if Jason knew. It was the first time she had acknowledge them aloud, and she couldn’t bring herself to meet Jason’s eyes. “I broke the kitchen window with them. Mum and Dad have no idea. No one does. Or at least, no one did.”
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
“I don’t want them!” Her voice had gotten a little louder, a little clearer. Y/N’s sudden change stunned Jason. Y/N was the patient one, the level headed one – the only time that changed was when he put himself in danger. She was caring and sweet. Y/N wasn’t the snapping type. “I don’t want them,” she repeated softer as she poked her shoe at the carpet. “I never wanted them.”
“Why?”
“Come on, Jace,” Y/N sighed, “people like me aren’t exactly welcome in this world. I don’t need the hassle.”
“Right…” Jason nodded as he moved to sit down next to Y/N on the end of the bed, gingerly placing his hand on top of hers. “I get that…”
“I don’t even know how I got them!” Y/N fell backwards onto the mattress with a groan, “How did I, of all people, end up with this?”
“Maybe your powers chose you because they knew you would use them well?” Jason suggested, looking at Y/N, still holding her hand. Y/N chuckled and moved her head to look at Jason as she still laid down.
“Really?” She smiled.
“Come on, look at what you did when you first use them properly?” Jason said. “You dissolve an acid bullet, sent a criminal to the ground and created a wave of power which created a power surge in a ten-block radius and knocked people to the ground! That’s pretty noble and badass!”
“Thanks Jason,” Y/N hid her blush as Jason laid next to her. She tightened the grip on Jason’s hand. “For so long I’ve felt like a freak, it’s nice to see someone doesn’t think that.”
“I could never think you were a freak!” Jason insisted. “Freaky beautiful perhaps, but not a freak.”
“You sure pick your moments, Jason Todd.”
Jason and Y/N both shifted to lay on their side, looking at the other with a soft smile on their face. Y/N was blushing a bright red while Jason had a love-struck look on his face, biting his lip.
“Part of my charm, sweetheart,” he winked playfully causing Y/N to laugh. “And don’t worry, your secret is safe with me,” Jason assured her, “until you are ready to use them.”
“What if I never want to use them?”
“I don’t believe that for a second.”
“Why?”
“You gonna tell me that you didn’t feel a little proud of yourself for knocking Zucco on his ass and saving my life?” He cocked his eyebrow. Y/N was silent. Fine, it felt good to stop Zucco, especially with her powers, and it felt good saving Jason. “See, I know you, Y/N, better than anyone. I know that you will be a kickass hero.”
“Jason…”
“And when you are ready, I’ll be right there cheering you on!” he whispered softly as they both started leaning in.
“You’re so sweet, you know that?”
“So I’ve been told.”
As their lips touched, Jason cupped Y/N’s face as she moved her hands into Jason’s hair, feeling it between her fingers. Soft and smooth. She smiled into the kiss, holding him close. The smell of him wrapped around her nostrils. Jason smelt warm, musty, delicious. He tasted like the coffee he always had. He engulfed her, and she welcomed it.
“Thank you,” Y/N murmured against his lips.
“For what?” Jason smiled against her.
“Being there for me.”
“I always will be!”
