I'm in a class in which for the first time the methodology is historical/archival rather than ethnographic and the professors have said that for the final paper we should be drawing on archival materials rather than ethnography, which is fun because nothing I'm doing so far requires archival work, so I have no idea what I'm going to be writing about (I came into the class with a very clear idea but I think I underestimated the "historical" half of "historical musicology" and was hoping I could get in more on the "musicology" side of things), but on the other hand I am feeling very tempted to learn how to go through the archive for other reasons entirely unrelated to my research and entirely related to Historical Fiction Rabbitholes
#oh? you give percy the training in historical research?? you give him the training so he can write about Blorbo from Boat Book????#i'm SO tempted by this. historical methods and reading the archive are very cool conceptually and i wish i could do something with them#but it's actually comical how unconducive my project is to doing anything with the archive#girl the music scene is 20 years old max. the archive is youtube and bandcamp. idk what you want me to do with that#^ you could actually theorize it this way however the professors are and 18th-century-ist and a medievalist so y'know#perce rambles#second phd in indian ocean history here i come babey!! <- you need to physically restrain me if i ever try this
