i love when street art pieces are already falling apart, it's like a performance in action

i love being able to discover stuff everytime i'm walking down the street, because they're new or because they've been modified. i love what comes out of these strange collaborations
like this mirror, which only had the white words at the top at first ("mais ce que tu es belle"), intending to make women acknowledge how beautiful they are. then several people painted over it, making the mirror unusable and turning it into an environmentalist piece ("refuse le plastique" / "je pollue je tue").

and i love this staircase in paris. it's run by a gallery and the pieces change all the time, being painted over by other artists or even the gallery as they repaint the whole thing regularly. everytime i'm in this neighborhood i make sure to check it out because i know i'm always gonna discover new gems

What I love about street art, beside the fact that we reclaim public space to be used for other things than capitalism and constant “BUY THIS” bombardment?
The transitory nature.
Don’t get me wrong, there are pieces I’d love to be able to look at forever and ever, but it’s unlikely that I will actually be able to do so. And that’s just the way it is.
Today I thought a lot about this, because one of my favourite pieces by Wordsmith, which got destroyed by the elements during the years, had been restored/reworked/reused.
And I took pictures thinking about pieces I’ve seen before and how they changed over time.
Some just managed to stay the same through the years:

Some were clearly deliberately destroyed:

Some fell victim to the elements:

Some were in the way of the next artist:

And some - out of the want to keep them around - evolved into something new -
Sometimes by the artist themselves:

And sometimes not:
