Let's say you are knitting a pattern and you want to make it longer to use up more yarn. What do you do? Here's how I worked out how many extra repeats I could do on the #seacoastwrapkal ⠀ ⠀ 1. Weigh your yarn. ⠀ 2. Work at least 1 repeat. ⠀ 3. Weigh the yarn you have left. ⠀ 4. Subtract #3 from #1.⠀ 5. Count the # of repeats you still need (20 in color A, section 3). ⠀ 6. Multiply #4 x #5. This is how much yarn you still need. ⠀ 7. Subtract #6 from #3. This is how much "extra" yarn you have available. ⠀ 8. Divide #7 by #4. This is how many repeats you can work with the extra yarn left. Don't work all available repeats, though, as you'll want some wiggle room! ⠀ ⠀ 1. I started with 54g.⠀ 2. I worked 2 repeats. ⠀ 3. Ended with 52 g. ⠀ 4. Swatching - there's a reason gauge is included in patterns. If it's a fitted item, or needs to be a certain size.... you need to hit gauge, and in order to know if you're going ot hit gauge before making the item, you need to swatch. Patterns are recipes - just like you can check your oven temp to see if your oven is "on temp", you need to check your knitting with the project needles & yarn to see if you're on gauge. Swatch completed, washed and dried. The linen softened beautifully! ⠀ ⠀ I'm at 20st & 36 rows for 4". This is a little off the pattern gauge (22/40), so I could go with a smaller needle.
