Here's the changing portrait, largely inspireed by the Aging Man (Master Gracey), that will adorn the wall of the Haunted Mansion bar aboard the Disney Treasure from Disney Cruise Line. the bar will feature its own storyline about a sea captain who ended up in the world of the dead after a disastrous diner with his fiancée.

Givin' the Captain a little bit of an update. Captain Victerico is now a couple of years older, and his body shape matches that of a proper archer.

Definitely needed more older characters in JotFS, and nothing fits a sea captain more than some weathering.

He's still a manwhore tho

A design I did last night! I wanted to make me some more men for my OC roster. No name atm but he's a boat man and a sea monster. Works for a fishing company and can usually be found hanging around docks. He's big enough that people could ride in his head.

I really hate that Peter Lorre's part in "They Met in Bombay" was another Yellowface role.

And no, not just because it's probably offensive.

Seeing pictures online, I initially thought he was just looking tired and grumpy. I was reminded of Marius in "Passage to Marseilles." Peter looks so cute in that Skipper getup. I was disappointed when I looked up the movie and realized this was another Yellowface role.

Nevertheless, I watched the movie, and took a few 'caps. The movie is a fun romp about two jewel thieves who team up, ruined by cringey racism, rapey "romance," and a completely tacked on BS ending obviously forced on by the Hayes Code.

Peter's role was especially frustrating. I love him so much as a quirky little sea captain, and in shots where the yellowface isn't obvious, he's absolutely adorable, in his too-big uniform and Feivel hat, crunching on his grouchy little half-cigarette.

The far-away shots have me excited to see Pete as a little seafaring scruff-muffin. It's a huge letdown to then see Peter's one-of-a-kind face hidden under some jarring Ming the Merciless makeup. Look at how adorable and impish PL still is underneath this stupid makeup, and think of the full-on cuteness we were denied.

But let's give a warm hand to that sailor in the back, channeling all of our feelings on this.

What did Hollywood have against letting Asian actors play Asian characters? And why is it that when Peter Lorre was finally allowed different roles from his usual typecasting, it was often in yellowface or brownface? Why couldn't an Asian play an Asian captain or secret agent? And why couldn't Peter play a captain or secret agent as his own ethnicity, with his own unique face?
