If you could bring Credo back from the dead for DMC6, how would you do it?

Oooh nonnie, this is a really good question, and while I have some ideas, I admit they’re all surface level thoughts that will probably fall apart the more you peel the layers back/try to apply actual lore, but lemme see!!

So to begin, this all ties into how I see hell as some sort of self sustaining demon economy. By that, I mean that when demons die and their bodies physically fade away, their essence, their “““soul””” or what have you finds it way back to hell to be cycled back into new demons. Higher tier demons contain more souls, which is why there are less of them than say, the canon fodder. (This is something that I want to try to work with in a potential future multi-chapter fic, but I need to build on all of this more than not at all sdfkhl) When Credo died, because he was infused with a demon via Ascension, he was sifted back into hell to rejoin the cycle, but his humanity throws a wrench in all that, and he’s able to maintain his physical Angelo form on top of his sense of self.

So he’s down there, and has been down there, fighting and surviving - so also like Vergil, albeit a little bit better than Vergil did, which also ties into how I see Credo and Vergil being similar - until he eventually comes across Dante and Vergil after DMC5 happens. Dante recognises him, and though there’s a huge misunderstanding between them all at first, Credo settles down when Dante is like “hey so I might have a way out of here, you’re coming with, right?”

And then they do, and I marry him, The End™ 😤

That’s honestly about all I have without retconning a bunch of things in DMC4. I really loved the idea of Credo’s human and demon halves being separated, since he was stabbed with the Yamato upon death, so having something along the lines of that Heaven one shot I wrote would also be fun, but I’d like Credo to have a human form he can fall back on, because he deserves to have at least a shred of normalcy in his life.

A homunculus sorta deal could also work? A man-made body that his “soul” is grafted on to. It has no feeling, no sense of taste, or anything like that but... no that’s too cruel, I couldn’t do that to him. 😭
