A Mixtape

A History Lesson of sorts, Babies.

Composed of actual 45s I bought as a kid during '71, snap, crackle, pop and all. Recorded onto a Maxell C-60 low-bias cassette as a mix some time back in the '90s, the order much like it might have been back in '71 on any AM Rock Radio Station worth its salt, or on a hypothetical "American Top 40" episode.

Transferred from cassette to SSD sometime last year ('23). The old Nakamichi cassette deck don't miss a beat! Tape's in excellent shape, as well. No deterioration in 30 years. Currently listening to it via AM Broadcast, on a Zenith Transistor Radio, as The Gods Intended.

It's being played on a 5th Gen iPod (with the audiophile processor), the little hard drive of which I replaced with an SD card holder and a 256GB SD Card. It's playing over an AM Transmitter I soldered together from a kit about 10 years ago that's been essentially running 24/7 ever since I plugged it in first time.

Sonically, AM had this sort of expansiveness to it, like an automatic-level control with a degree of reverb, of sorts, that had this particular sound that lent itself really well to being listened to on the typical car radio, and on portable radios. The 45rpm "single mix" was always recorded "hotter" than the album track, so it was extra "in your face". That, combined with that reverb/compression inherent in AM was, and still is, Powerful.

It is essentially a Temporal Portal back in time, this experience of hearing them now, just as I heard them back than, on an AM Radio, that imperfect medium that seemed so perfect for this music...it is like being time-machined back.

Blogging about it to finally get the tracklist written down, since in my iTunes it's just 'Side 1 and Side 2' of the cassette xfer. lulz. Figured y'all would enjoy the selections. I'll have to dig through my tapes for Vol. 2 and the rest.

Unexpected Friday. Fiuh~

Semakin mendekati bagi raport hawar2 libur semakin kuat ya bunnn.. Feeling ngga banyak yg masuk sekolah bener bgt haha. Sepi bgt deh sekolah, udah mah anak SD nya libur kan. Yg bolos bnyk, lantas knp kami rajin amat yak wkwk. Tadinya mau nengok dyra sih kemarin ngga jadi, jadinya hari ini.

Anter dulu nemo, taunya yg masuk cuma 8 org wkwk bahkan wali kelasnya ngga masuk cuy, krn ambil raport anaknya. Jd cuma sama guru pendamping, bu Dina. Yaudahlah sesuai planning kemarin kita jenguk dyra, jadinya mama zoey dan fatih kami bertiga lsg hunting makanan buat dyra, ke primarasa beli puding cake sama ke griya beli buah2an. Cussss aja ke rumah dyra. Baru tau rumahnya ruko gt pinggir jalan rajawali bgt lohhh berarti dr dulu sering lewat dong wkwk. Dyra, yaampun kasian masih celong dan lemes huhu, semoga lekas sembuh nak, menyambut liburan dgn sehat dong yaa!

Dahlah tanpa babibu, abis dzuhur aku sama nemo ke pvj. Sekalian jg mau beli kado buat anaknya buaci, ponakannya ibu. Tgl 25 ultah.. Sambil hunting 2 kado berarti, 1 kado buat anak buaci dpt, lanjut nyari buat Bu Dina.. Ingaaatttt menyesuaikan budget, jgn yg mahal tp keliatan mahal hahaha. Gonna go on a bit of a rant. WARNING.

I've always been a music fiend. I used to love my 160 gb ipod all throughout middle and high school. When it inevitably died, because it's an apple product, I couldn't get a replacement without paying ridiculous prices because they discontinued the classic ipods for some bastardized half-phone 32gb piece of shit. So that's what started my intense hatred of apple products. I know I could have replaced all the parts myself, and I honestly should have in the name of science at least, but around that miserable time I discovered high capacity SD cards and that's what I've been using since.

Also, not a fan of the ipod holder or high fashion brands, but I enjoy that Christian Death is a play on the brand Christian Dior.
