ECB: stablecoins can suffer from regulatory uncertainty

The European Central Bank (ECB) believes that even stablecoins with a clear governance structure can suffer from regulatory uncertainty and a lack of legal norms.

 In the paper entitled "In search of stability crypto assets: are stablecoins is a decision?"officials define stablecoins as digital units of value that are not a form of any particular currency, but rather rely on a set of stabilization tools in order to reduce price fluctuations.

 The ECB offers a classification of four types of stablecoins, which differ in key concepts used to maintain the stability of their price. Officials allocate tokenized currency, backed by the coins outside of the blockchain, provided the coins on the blockchain and algorithmic stablecoins.

 At the moment, there are at least 54 projects of stablecoin, 24 of which are already working. The total market capitalization of stable cryptocurrencies increased from $1.7 billion in January 2018 to $4.8 billion in July 2019. At the same time, the monthly volume of stablecoin transactions is about $13.5 billion.

 Interestingly, tokenized crypto-currencies are the most popular type of stablecoins. They win both in the number of projects and in the volume of transactions – almost 97% of transactions occur in such coins.

 According to the ECB, regulatory uncertainty may pose a danger to stable cryptocurrencies. Separately, it is noted that the adoption of stablecoin may require improvements in the management structure of cryptocurrencies, including the processes of updating smart contracts underlying the project.

Week 17 & 18 - Rotoscoping

During week 17, we have grouped up and went outside to film some videos for our next lesson, where we will be creating our own very rotoscoping animation.

For the videos, there were few actions that we can choose to focus on and we choose to focus on running, jumping and walking. We used a DSLR and a tripod to film the videos, making sure that it was steady and good quality so that we can work from it easily.

After filming the videos, we’ve choose which video we would like to work from and that was the beginning of week 17.

This was the first time for me to work with Adobe Animate, but it was easier than I was expecting as I thought it would be very difficult to use the software.

Once we have our video, we opened up Animate and selected File > New, make sure that it is selected ‘ScriptAction 3.0’

As a new file is created, select File > Import > Import Video

Once the video is imported into the document, resize it by selecting the video layer and pressing Ctrl + T just like in Photoshop. A panel should appears and use the arrows at the top to adjust the size of the video, making sure it fits the background so that it would be easier to work with.

Add a new layer by clicking the memo icon, and a new layer should appears. Since some of the features are very similar to Photoshop, I was comfortable working with the features I know.

Insert frames by selecting the amount of frames you want within the timeline, then by pressing F7 it will automatically add keyframes for you into the timeline. This is a very important step as it will allow you to work from the video frame by frame, which is the process of rotoscoping.

Adjust the brush size by pressing [ or ], going forward a frame or backward a frame by pressing , or .

Finally, this is my finished product, I had worked from the video that I have choose which was a video of one of our group members jumping into the air. I think it went better than I was expecting as I had no experience in working with Animate, but once I have got used to it, it was becoming easier to work with. I was hoping to be able to create something like this:

With a fine outline but due to not been able to get the graphic tablets working, I went with the simple approach by rendering blocks of colours for each part of the figure’s body instead. Using purple for the hair, grey for the face, blue for the jacket and dark blue for the legs.

In the future, I would love to work with rotoscoping again but attempt at the style that I was internally wanted with the graphic tablets. Nevertheless, I think it went really well as it showed the movement smoothly and it has weight to the animation. However, in the future I would like not to rush it so that it will look more refine and perfect compared the ones I have done.
