OMG THIS WAS SUCH A CUTE REQUEST!!!

Ahjshjsja and I wanted to answer it with something from this au (x) (x) which I made ages ago and I’ve been kinda wanting to revisit for a while so this request came at the perfect time!

And I have so much more that I want to draw for it which I will probably get round to after finishing these requests

For anyone who is curious: this is a vaguely historical/fantasy inspired au where Aly is a warrior prince and Fran is a Gaulish (or whatever the fantasy equivalent would be) princess and they are made to marry to unite their people despite the fact they’ve never met and can’t speak a word of the other’s language. Cue weeks/months(?)/years(!?) of pining and miscommunication as they grow to love and understand each other.

Prompt: Royal Au

Pairings: NedCan, minor GerEng, minor ScotFra

Word Count: 828

It was everything a royal wedding should be. A grand ceremony full of flowers and sparkling jewels as decoration, the guests dressed in the fanciest of fashion, and a celebratory ball to end the night. Matthew had never coloured Arthur to be one for such lavish events; even the King of Hearts seemed to prefer small, intimate gatherings, but they were royalty, so they most likely didn’t have a choice in the matter of size.

Matthew didn’t care for big parties either, but the current Spade monarchy was a close family friend of his, so he was personally invited to the wedding of the Spadian Queen to the King of Hearts. He couldn’t turn Arthur’s invitation down. So there he sat at a table on the edge of the room, trying to avoid socializing as much as possible. He would have attempted to talk to Alfred or Arthur, but the two were a bit wrapped up talking to other guests. Matthew didn’t feel like fighting for attention and was more than happy to keep to himself and enjoy the food and drinks.

He was content until Francis snuck up on him and Clapped his shoulders, spooking the young prince. “Gah!” Matthew shrieked.

“Sorry,” Francis chuckled, not at all sorry, “But I just didn’t want you to feel alone over here.”

“I’m fine.”

“But you should be dancing.”

“I’m good. Besides, I don’t have anyone to dance with.”

Francis tsked, linking arms with Matthew and pulling the young man up. He led him towards the dance floor. “Then we’ll find you, someone,” Francis stated.

Matthew rolled his eyes, but he didn’t feel like arguing. Most of the time the King of Diamonds was laid-back, but when he set his mind to something, he was persistent, and there was no deterring him. This seemed to be one of those times. As Francis searched for an eligible partner, Matthew caught sight of a familiar Hearts noble.

He had met this nobleman on one of his recent visits to Hearts. Though the noble was a bit intimidating he had turned out to be fairly kind, showing Matthew around the castle and gardens. 

Francis must have noticed Matthew’s gaze as the king began dragging Matthew over. 

“F-Francis–”

“Shhhh, it’s alright,” Francis hushed.

“But–”

“Shh.” As they approached, Francis put on his best smile. “Good evening monsieur.” 

“Good evening,” the noble greeted, not seeming interested. 

Francis elbowed Matthew. “G-Good evening,” Matthew stammered. 

“Oh goodness, would you look at the time? Allie wanted me to meet him out in the garden. I’m so sorry Matthew, but I really must be going.”

Matthew did not believe Francis’s story for a second. Matthew felt his face heat up, knowing exactly what the king was planning, but before he could say anything, Francis had already slipped into the crowd. He turned back to the noble to find him staring at him intently. 

“S-Sorry for the intrusion. His majesty likes to be nosey sometimes.”

The nobleman just shrugged, face unchanging. “You’re okay.”

“Jan right?” Matthew asked after a moment.

“Yes. And you’re the Prince of Diamonds.”

“Matthew is fine.”

Though his expression remained neutral, something flashed in Jan’s eyes. It seemed almost like hesitancy. “If you’re sure…” He said carefully.

“I am.”

The two lapsed into silence, attention being drawn to the dance floor where hundreds of couples were dancing. “Would you like to dance?” Matthew asked, offering a hand to Jan.

Jan’s cheeks flushed a faint red. Wordlessly, he accepted the prince’s hand and was led over to the dance floor and out to the balcony. 

Jan was tense as Matthew began to lead him in a slow waltz. Matthew himself was nervous, but either because of the alcohol or the quietness of the outdoors, he was much more at ease than Jan. “Relax,” he murmured, breath tickling Jan’s neck causing him to shiver. “No one’s watching.”

“And everyone says you're the shy, awkward, little prince.”

“The alcohol probably has helped in this case,” Matthew laughed. 

Jan let out an amused huff, and it melted Matthew’s heart. Jan didn’t seem to be someone who laughed a lot, and there he was, amused by Matthew. He unconsciously began leaning in. 

“There you are Mattie,” a loud voice cheered, stopping Matthew midway. “Arthur was asking about you.”

Matthew turned to find his brother and King of Spades Alfred standing in the doorway. “Really?” Matthew asked, trying not to sound irritated for being interrupted.

“Mhm. Something about…thanking you for your gift? Lud and Art are sneaking off soon so…”

Okay…I’ll be there in a minute.”

“‘Kay dude. See ya and good luck.” He gave Matthew a wink before heading back inside.

Matthew turned back to Jan. “Jan I–”

Jan bowed, swiping up Matthew’s hand and placing a kiss on it. “I’ll be waiting for you dear prince.”

Matthew’s stomach flipped. “O-Okay.” He gave him a small smile. “I-I’ll be back soon.”

With one more longing glance, Matthew returned to the ballroom.

ok now I need a whole au about that scot warrior prince/fran Gaul princess. I need details I need the common indifference about getting married the first time they meet then the slow build to being kinda friends then.... someone breaks and they can't hide their love for eachother anymore UGH OK NOW MY BRAIN IS FULL OF IDEAS IM GONNA DIE OP

ANON ANON UR KILLING ME HERE 😩��� this au has been giving me brainworms for so long holy fuck, you get it anon it’s about the slow burn, the pining (mainly from Alasdair) as Francis slowly warms up to him.

I’m not usually one for arranged marriage aus, I prefer forbidden romance situations personally but damn there’s something about princess Fran who spent their childhood growing up in a sunny summer kingdom forced to marry the prince of some northern tribe where it rains 285 days out of the year and snows the rest of the time and maybe it’s sunny one day of the year (their wedding day)

And of course they don’t speak each other’s language so Fran has no other choice but to assume that Alasdair is some dullard lacking wit and charm but oh how he is pleasantly mistaken…
