Finally, he speaks. Oliver looks up just in time to catch Jack’s eyes dance about in his skull, but his refusal to meet his gaze is met with indifference. They’re on day seven of treatment and the doctor was beginning to think Jack’s resiliency would be everlasting, but it appears he may have finally grown weary of the bleak darkness of his lasting confinement this past week. 

“Honestly I didn’t expect you’d take anything I’ve had to say with any recognition…but if you explain what you think has changed, I’ll see what I can do to get you out of solitary. Deal?”

His words, which were probably meant as a joke, weren’t taken as such. It was a perfectly reasonable proposal, Cat thought. There were certainly worse decisions that could be made, & didn’t Hell deserve something -    someone, better than what it currently had?

Someone without personal ties getting in the way every ten minutes. Someone with their focused aimed farther than the near future. Someone who actually cared about demons - both loyal and otherwise. Someone exactly like her.

With a nonchalant shrug, she gave a nod, attempting to look like this was the first time a coup had ever crossed her mind.
