Normality has been resumed after last night’s grim boat crossing.  To be fair I’ve lived in Orkney for 9 years and that was the first time I’ve had to spend the boat journey facedown on the floor praying for the time to pass quickly.  Orkney Beef has spent years at the fishing and tells me I should try spending a month on a boat like that trying to work over the side.  Err no thanks!

Any Monday morning that starts with a rainbow means it has to be a great week ahead surely?  Well it is by my reckoning.  I’ve always loved rainbows and whenever I see them I alway’s think it’s God’s way of saying all will be well.  (Like the time I recently had to take a boat ride in bad weather and saw a rain bow right before I drove onto the boat- Confessions of a Sea Sick Drama Queen (and a long suffering husband) )

This one I captured just as I was heading into work at the beginning of the week, and if you closely it’s a double rainbow so it looks like that’s the next fortnight covered. 😀

There’s talk in the air of another storm coming.  Depending on which website you look at we could range from full scale hurricane to just ‘a bit blowy’. However my boat travels were flat calm this week and in beautiful October sunshine.  I took this few seconds of video to prove it. Press play.

and this here is someone’s home taken from the boat. It’s Balfour Castle on the small island of Shapinsay.  Not bad!

  Every man’s home is his castle.  Sometimes quite literally.

It’s now the time of year where the ‘Merry Dancers’ are visible in Orkney. Friday night was grim weather wise but people more hardy than me were willing to brave the elements for some fantastic photos.  There’s a Facebook group where people post there Aurora pictures and I was very grateful  that people a)  kindly let me show their photos and  b) they bothered themselves to move off the couch on a wet and windy Friday night so I didn’t have to.

The weekend is a time for us to relax after a busy week at work.  Or in our case to entertain Orkney Beef’s grandchildren (I’m a step granny dontcha know!) Peedie Meatball came to stay on Friday night through to Saturday and we relaxed by playing, reading, doing letters and numbers, playing weddings, playing hair dressers, drinking hot chocolate, going swimming and by the time we dropped her off home (still bouncing with energy) Nomi was just arriving to show us her sitting up skills and keep us amused with her gorgeous smiles.  Just lovely! (but we are going back to work for a rest!)

 It seems shops are ready to ram Christmas down are necks.  Mince pies are on sale as well as Christmas puddings, chocolates.  This is not a drill folks.  I decided to jump on the band wagon and made a head start with a cheeky mulled wine.  If you can’t beat ’em you might as well join ’em. Cheers!

I love these last two photos.  I took the first one while walking down to church this morning. Stromness is such a pretty old fishing  town, with great views and I loved the light this morning.

  And this cheeky one is Stella blowing up a rubber glove in Sunday School.  Because why not?

I keep saying week after week how busy I am.  This remains the case but I can’t complain.  I love my job, I’m swimming every morning before work and I’m squeezing a lot into each day. That said my goal this week is to not nod off on the couch in the evening, it’s my age I think!
