Bethy got mom a small nutcracker at Walmart. She loved nutcrackers very much and she asked me if I wanted to guess its name.
I struggled. This went on for several minutes before I hit record.
Careful with the volume! @flamingpen18 here we are!
~.O.~
Me: Alright, so, it's not the name of a person. It is the name of a Thing. So, it's not a proper name. You are making it a Proper Noun by making it a name, but it not necessarily a name. So, it's not named after people, which means it's a Thing. But I don't- It's- Is it- Is it an ice cream? Is this supposed to be an ice cream?
Mom: I don't really know what it's supposed to be.
Me: Okay, well, that doesn't help me.
Mom: What it looked like to me-
Me: It's- DONT' TELL ME! *chokes*
Mom: I was like, "That's his name. That's his name right there."
Me: Um... Uuuum. Well because- *flabbergasted* He just looks like a fucking nutcracker with an ice cream thing on top. I don't really -What can it- Okay. Is it in relation to an animal?
Mom: No.
Me: What the f- *slaps knee in frustration* Okay. Is it in relation-
Mom: I'm really concerned. *laughs*
Me: *high-pitched giggles* Is it in relation to a food?
Mom: Yes.
Me: Food, okay! This does not help at all. Is it only a food, or is it used to be anything else or is it just food?
Mom: I have seen Nana use this particular item, that is a food, as something else.
Me: ...Butter?
Mom: No.
Me: *wheezing and cackling*
Mom: *weird look* What does butter have to do with anything?
Me: No! You don't wanna know what I was thinking!
Mom: Never mind, Helen, you are not good at this. OMG.
Me: *wheezing* I have such a headache OMG!
Mom: And you did it to yourself. I hope you're happy.
Me: I CAN'T- I'M TRYING! Okay, so... My throat hurts.
Mom: Doo- doo- doo- That's what happens when you cackle like a hyena.
Me: *wheezing* It's not my fault, I can't- Okay, food. Yeah, but how does it- Okay, but if it's not ice cream then how- *chuckling* Okay.
Mom: What else does it look like?
Me: I DON'T KNOW! He looks like an old man trying to be Santa but as a nutcracker! Okay? *giggles*
Mom: Santa Crackers.
Me: Like... okay. *sniffs* *giggles* I forgot for a second that you said food and I thought, 'nipples' but like-
Mom: *cough* No. No! NO!
Me: *cackles* Well- but you said it was on top of it-
Mom: God, what is wrong with you?!
Me: *giggles* Okay. Okay. *sniffs* I'm okay.
Mom: That's up for debate.
Me: Okay.
Mom: Yeah, you said that but still... *laughs*
Me: *wheezing* Ok- *coughs* Oka- I CAN'T! JUS- Okay.
Mom: STOP SAYING 'OKAY'! WHAT YOU'RE DOING IS NOT OKAY!
Me: I'm- I'm Trying! *wheezing* Okay... *laughs* No! I'm trying!
Mom: *laughs* *coughs*
Me: *clears throat* Oh! Is it a gumdrop?
Me: JESUS CHRIST! *howling laughter*
Mom: *laughs* That's it! Yes! Gumdrop!
Me: OMG! WTF?!
Mom: All that! All that for your foolishness!
Me: I was thinking, I was like, what is that like for?
Mom: It's okay, Gumdrop. Aunt Helen'll be okay!
Me: *giggles* *sniffs* To think, we started off with me asking if it was named Martin. *cackles* And then if it was named Nana. *laughs* OMG, man I am not good at that at all. Okay. Okay so... Okay.
Mom: Ar- You keep saying 'okay' and it is not.
Me: You can't blame be because there was a thing on top of it! *coughs*
Mom: I want you to know that I can do nothing but blame you! *giggles*
Me: There was a thingy on to of it, okay? It- It looked less like that and more like the top scoop of an ice cream cone!
Mom: *mumbles* De scoop. De scoopa.
Me: Like, I'm trying to think of like, fucking food, and I should've asked if it was a fucking snack or some shit, it would've made it fucking faster. *sighs* Okay. My head hurts... and it's your fault.
Mom: ...*offended look*
Me: *wheezes*
Mom: How'd it become my fault?
Me: *clears throat* *sniffs* Because you were relishing in my suffering.
Mom: Well, of course, it was funny. Also, very sad.
Me: *sniffs* You suck.
Mom: No, not really.
Me: *sniffs* Alright.
Mom: I have no interest in that shit.
Me: Okay. Everything's okay.

Subversive Stop-Motion: "Ruka" (The Hand) - Jiří Trnka's 1965 Masterpiece
By Sofi Ojeda
In the realm of stop-motion animation, few films stand out as boldly as Jiří Trnka's "Ruka" (The Hand), a short film that transcends the boundaries of the medium. Released in 1965, this 18-minute cinematic gem is a testament to Trnka's artistic prowess and his daring critique of the political climate he navigated.
Jiří Trnka: The Puppet Master
Before delving into the subversive world of "Ruka," it's crucial to understand the maestro behind the scenes. Jiří Trnka, born in Czechoslovakia in 1912, was not just a puppet animator; he was a talented thinker who challenged the conventions of animation to transmit a message. His early exposure to puppetry when he helped his grandmother making toys and dolls and his mother who was a dressmaker, combined with the help of a stint under renowned puppeteer Joseph Scoopa, set the stage for Trnka's journey into the world of art, children's book illustration, sculpture and animation.
Trnka's career unfolded against the backdrop of political turbulence. His personal experience of totalitarianism under the communist regime led him create multiple films as critique of the context. On the other hand, his unique human character designs and backgorund style, was an unexpected rebellion too, against the Disney formula (which was the standard at that time), while he was still delving as a 2d traditional animator.
However, in 1947, he transitioned to stop motion, and his subsequent films were nothing short of successes, acclaimed for their aesthetics, previously unseen in the world of animation, in which he consistently engaged in critique. One notable creation was "Song of the Prairie" in 1049, a satirical take on United States Westerns.
"Ruka": A Political Allegory Unveiled
"Ruka" begins with a peculiar character—a potter crafting clay pots in his room. This seemingly innocent setting takes a sharp turn as a giant hand attempts to manipulate the pots. The narrative swiftly unfolds into a political allegory, mirroring the oppressive political regime Trnka experienced.
At its core, the film presents a clash between the potter and the hand, symbolizing the individual's resistance to political interference. The hand, a metaphor for dominant political forces, introduces images of authority, including the Statue of Liberty. Set against the early years of the Cold War, "Ruka" becomes a poignant commentary on political propaganda and manipulation.
As the protagonist resists the hand's influence, the film navigates the character's journey from defiance to submission. The potter is coerced into sculpting a giant hand, a metaphor for the insidious nature of indoctrination. Despite receiving rewards, the character's internal struggle unveils the facade of freedom in a totalitarian system.
Legacy and Impact
"Ruka" stands as a subversive masterpiece in the world of stop-motion animation. Trnka's meticulous control over the animation process, from set creation to frame-by-frame shooting, showcases his technical brilliance as well as fantastic storytelling skills. Despite the ban imposed on the film in Czechoslovakia, "Ruka" garnered international acclaim and won the top prize at the Honesty International Animation Festival. However, this was Trnka's last film, so he was unable to witness its subsequent recognition or prohibition.
Jiří Trnka's legacy extends beyond "Ruka." His influence in animation earned him the moniker "the Walt Disney of Eastern Europe." In 1968, he received the Hans Christian Andersen Medal for his contribution to children's literature.
Despite receiving a warm reception for his work, Jiří Trnka harbored mixed feelings about the privileges bestowed upon him and the reality of living under the political regime. His artistic success was accompanied by a poignant melancholy and a dark undertone, a reflection of the challenging context that surrounded him. This dichotomy in Trnka's emotions adds a layer of complexity to his artistic legacy, showcasing the profound impact that political turmoil had on his personal and creative psyche.
Conclusion: Unveiling the Hand of Political Critique
"Ruka" is not merely a stop-motion film; it is a subversive exploration of political power and individual resistance. Trnka's ability to weave a narrative that transcends the confines of animation cements his place as a visionary in the cinematic landscape. As you delve into the 18 minutes of "Ruka," be prepared to witness a puppeteer's masterstroke that challenges norms, leaving an indelible mark on the world of animation.

To Celebrate Mario Day, I decided to do a drawing based off of this video.
youtube
I drew Maxwell @bryan360 and he's dressed as Mario drinking a jug of milk. If he wants to grow, the calcium in Milk will help his bones grow. And besides, I always remember that commercial ever since the 90s. Especially before I went to school in 2001.
And also, I made a Literature for Lisa based off of this other video.
youtube
Normally Loopy and Blacky went to investigate how the Koopa Cat Sisters opened up a restaurant and everyone obsessed with their food.
I hope everyone have a Happy Mario Day!

WAIT WAIT WAIT!
So recently I've been calling Woopers "Oopahs". I have several named after this concept. Oopah Troopa. Oopah Scoopa. Etc.
I completely forgot that "Oopah" came from this comic.
