Bittersweet Symphony is on a bit of a hiatus while I draft the next 20 chapters and give @threegoblinart a chance to catch up, but here’s a little SCOM adjacent mini comic I did to stave off THE HORRORS™️

I’m a big believer in the free press, but paparazzi and those who spread misinformation can go screw them selves.

I imagine that Hunter and Willow would get a lot of this crap.

I've been playing with procreate and I wanted to do a Scomverse Comic set after Hunter's official adoption and after all the Inner Circle Trials stuff.

I want to do more post SCOM art too but this was gnawing at my brain. I’m probably going to release it in smaller panels first (save for this one) and pages later. Let’s see how it goes.

Writing Hunter being a casual dad is challenging… mostly because of describing it…

Like he’s still Hunter but now he’s got a little baby strapped to his chest and Willow is worried about all the things she forgot to pack but Hunter has put his scout hat back on and has pre-packing for a trip down to a perfect routine…

He’s like Peter B. Parker.

On Duty

A little comic project because BSS is still on hiatus until next week.

Somehow I’m enjoying drawing out slice of life parenthood stuff and finding it easier than writing slice of life.

I’m mostly happy with the way this came out but I don’t love how Willow looks. I wanted to draw Amity and Luz with Azura and Matty and Gus but I’m in the middle of a lot of things and wanted to try and get this out.

Drawing Katya took a lot out of me for some reason?

Yo! So I am smack in the beiging a SCOM mini pre-story involving the Noceda Siblings antics.

Luz had wondered if her mother had picked up on their little scheme. Perhaps it was all the times they’d been running errands with her and Luz had begun to mutter the words, “Fuck you, Philip.” under her breath everytime they drove past that Titan-damned monument?

Vee was the first to catch on. She’d been in the Human Realm for longer, and had some time to build up her confidence as a Noceda. After Belos’ death, Luz and Vee would stay up late night sketching out plans for this grand event. What they would write. How they would do it. 

Giggling over a cup of hot cocoa, Luz’s with extra marshmallows, they spread out an old edition of the Gravesfield Gazette – the local newspaper that featured a photograph on the front page of the statue that stood in the middle of town.

The statue of Caleb and Philip Wittebane. 

The basement stairs groaned as the door opened. “What are you two laughing about?” Hunter crept up from behind. His hair was a total mess and his pajama pants were dragging along the floor. He squinted at the paper and his eyebrows shot up.

 “Oh great.” Vee grumbled. “Now Hunter’s gonna narc on us.”

“What? No” Hunter grumbled. He grabbed a banana off the kitchen table, casually peeling it before taking a big bite. “I don’t even know what ‘narc’  is.” He explained. 

Luz eyed her sister. Then her brother. She drew her hands to her lips and sucked in a long breath. “Okay.” She began. “You know how every time we go into town we need to look at him?”

 “Yeeeessssss?” Hunter narrowed his eyes. “Where exactly are you going with this, Luz?”

“We wanna let everyone in Gravesfield know what a tool he was and write it all over the statue!” Vee said quickly. 

“Vandalism, eh?” Hunter sighed. 

“Yes.” Luz shot back. “You got a problem with that boy scout?”

I was going to add more detail but I’m still REALLY feeling out the art process and the overall procreate program! I figured this was okay though, for the process of practicing poses and brushes, not to mention finding my style, which will be a journey?

It’s been slightly over two years since I started the first chapter of SCOM and Artemis’ name was tightly tucked away in my notes. I’m so incredibly inspired by fan artists who draw their OCs/ fan kids into their own AUs and I wanted to give it a shot myself?

Sooooooooo.

I’m finding myself enjoying the whole drawing process on procreate! When I was younger I used to draw and write all the time but stopped both? Writing fan fic has helped me soothe some of my anxiety, and drawing is also been helpful?

Maybe a few more scomverse short form comics to come along with fics ? I’ve been so inspired by fanartists and their au comics for a while, but never considered doing it myself?!? Like soooo many fan artists (and Fic writers) drew me more into the fandom and inspired me to write! Maybe it’s similar with drawing?

They’d be rough though.

Since I drew Artemis and the interaction with Hunter (and taken some procreate tutorials) I’ve been both drawing AND writing up a storm…

I don’t know….

Before considering what to say next, Hunter looked at the time and shook his head. He deleted the message and made another attempt at cleaning, only to hear his own scroll buzz on the table. 

hello_willow: Knock knock. 

A matching knock tapped on the front door. Raising an eyebrow, Hunter padded quietly to open it, and there, under the light of the Noceda’s porch – bundled in a thick jacket and a woolen hat in the shape of a bee, stood Willow Park. Her breath hung heavy in the air.

Sharing again because it breaks me!

Ahhhh there’s so much in here! The heavy steps, how his shoulders are slumped. His eyes.

But also how Belos using his name fills him with dread.

While the coven heads mock him with things like “Brat” or “Pest”, Belos knows Hunter’s name. It’s something he’s given to him (like all the other “gifts” that Belos has bestowed upon his nephew) and it’s used to twist and manipulate Hunter.

When he tells Luz his name is Hunter, it’s like a small bit of Belos’ hold on him is broken.

Imagine how that falls away as others (first Flapjack, then the others he lets in) use his name with love.

Just a thing to consider since I’ve waited over 500k words to release the Huntlow baby’s name in SCOM!

Theres always been a reason for it.

No joke though, I think Hunter would not think twice about being on diaper duty.

It’s what needs to be done. It makes A happy to be clean and cared for.

He sings to her and they “chat”… she smiles.

After he snuggles back with Willow and reads a book.

All the best stuff that comes with being a dad and he doesn’t think twice about the icky part, because he literally had to stand in the throne room and watch Belos turn into a violent slime monster.

Dirty diapers and happy baby? No problem.

Working on BoTLD and imagining that teenage Hunter would have a Wednesday Addams disdain for Puritans the way Wednesday is with Pilgrims.

(Yes, I know there’s some distinct differences between the two groups but the general idea remains.)

Like, a reenactment group comes in when he has a shift at Robin’s Roast and he goes all crazy, babbling about how shitty puritans were and what bs Witch Hunts were…

And the owners of the cafe won’t fire him because he’s really good at his job and popular with customers…

He takes his ranting to school, and to Palisman carving sessions with Dell…

And hanging out with Gus and on a date with Willow …
