The last thing David expected, or wanted, was for a phone call from his sister to interrupt his viewing of 'The Holiday' and drag him out into the Canadian mountains after her car breaks down. Add to that the worsening snowstorm as he travels further north and Alexis accepting a complete stranger's invitation to wait in his cabin until David can get to her and the day has taken a very different and highly unwelcome turn than the one he was anticipating.

But then he meets the stranger, and perhaps he can forgive Alexis this one. After all, he's seen the film before but Patrick is new.

David Rose has exceedingly low expectations of the Elmdale Christmas Street Party. After visiting the Kristkindlemarkts of Austria, Germany and Northern France, revelling in artisan wares and unique delicacies, he doubts anything can live up to the festive romance he experienced in his twenties.

Best Budd, Stevie, refuses to let David wallow through his second Christmas in Schitt's Creek.

Lured by the smell of baked goods and a smattering of tasteful stalls, David meets a gingerbeard man who makes him feel gooey inside. But David doesn't like gingerbread....orr gingerbeards. Does he?

Fics I had the most fun writing: March With Me for SC This was a daily flash fic venture. I did not write a lot of longer fics this year. I really enjoyed the prompts for this month.

Boo! for HS I really wanted to write a Halloween fic this year. I came up with the idea of Charlie wanting to go a Halloween party with Nick as a couple, but Nick was not out yet. By dressing up, Charlie got to see what it was like going out in public as a couple, and Nick would get to see that as well.

Characters I enjoyed writing the most: I will never get tired of writing David and Stevie. I'm also really starting to like getting into Nick and Charlie's heads. And then, of course, getting the chance to write about ace characters like Maddy and Isaac made me very happy.

Biggest challenge in 2024: I moved out of my fanfic comfort zone and entered 3 writing contests. (I even moved up to the next level in one of them!)

Plans for the rest of 2024: For SC, I am currently working on the Monthly Color Drabble Challenge for December White Out. I have a Secret Santa Gift Exchange that will be posted, and I'm working on a Frozen Over fic. For HS I'd like to write a Christmas Fic.

Plans for 2025: For SC, I have 2 multi-chapter WIPS I would really like to try and finish. And continue with the drabbles. Even if I'm not in the headspace to write a one-shot, the drabbles help to keep me engaged in the fandom. For HS, I have an AU multi-chapter fic I'm working on. I may want to try a daily flash fic for HS.

Most importantly in 2025? I hope to keep writing and that I continue to enjoy it.

To answer your questions:

Schitt's Creek airport exes to lovers was supposed to be a fic for the Frozen Over fest but I just didn't have time to write it so I had to drop the claim which made me sad cos I really wanted to make it three years in a row of participating in Frozen Over! Anyway, this was the prompt that I claimed (and I don't think anyone actually wrote it):

I have ideas for the prompt that involve lots of texting, a little subterfuge on Patrick's part with what will hopefully be a romantic reveal and then reunion. I need to figure out the back story and decide whether I place this within a canon adjacent universe or make it completely AU. I don't write David and Patrick very often anymore, but whenever I do I'm reminded how much I love them and love writing them so, it's staying on the list.

Goal pole trick - I had extended butterfly on my list for this year because it's been something that I couldn't quite get other than once or twice momentarily. BUT as you know because I subject you to my videos, I got it last week (on both sides even!!) and as long as I can repeat that again in the next couple of weeks, I think I can cross it off!! Um, my other goals are doing superman without it being very clear that there are several moments when I think I am going to slide off the pole, inside leg hangs without wanting to cry (rip my inner thighs which are just constantly bruised), JADE SPLIT. Also, just generally looking less like a baby giraffe in 8-inch heels.

Bucket list pole trick - I don't have one! Mostly I just want to look like I know what I'm doing lmao. Maybe choreographing an entire routine without having a breakdown.

I love seeing everyone sharing their holiday fics!!

It's been such a crazy time for me and I've been trying to bury myself in some warm holiday goodness. Wanted to share my winter and holiday fics in the hopes one or all may bring some warmth or holiday cheer to someone else who may not have read them.

The only winter holiday fics I've written are in the Schitt's Creek Fandom for David and Patrick.

I'll Weather Any Storm With You (E) I wrote this for Frozen Over last year: David and Patrick meet by the fireplace at a ski lodge and meet for dinner. After a dinner mishap, things look bleak until a winter storm comes in and David finds himself cold and alone... can he find someone to keep him warm on this cold, stormy night?

2. Made With Love (T) Snow falls and Patrick has to clean up the driveway. David doesn't want to help, but there's something else he can do for his husband.

3. Christmas Revelation (M) This was my first completed fic in this fandom. @ineveryuniverse-sc co-wrote a couple parts of this fic with me. Patrick goes to his parent's house for Christmas in the hopes of telling them about David. David stays behind and has a difficult time being apart from Patrick for their first Christmas. Can David really stay away? A story about Patrick and David's first Christmas.....the good, the bad and the ugly.

4. The Purrrrfect Gift (M) I co-wrote this with @edie4711. We had so much fun with this one!

A sound startles David out of his thoughts. A high-pitched, mournful sort of sound.

What the fuck is that?

It’s coming from the sunroom at the back of the house. It sounds like a…bird? No, it can’t be a bird, it’s after dark. It’s definitely an animal sound, though. Owl? A baby? David shudders, then shakes it off; it’s a ridiculous thought. No one alive would think leaving a baby on David Rose’s doorstep in the night is a good idea.

5. Merry Christmas... Couldn't Miss This One This Year

I wrote this one under another pseud that I've since renamed to match VanillaHigh00. I love this holiday tune and had to write a fic about it. "Christmas Wrapping" by the Waitresses.

Winter Fics

Fire and Snow (E, 12,665 words)

(The only one not written for a Frozen Over fest)

When a snowstorm hits Schitt's Creek, David is very excited to spend it snuggled up with the man he loves in their new home. Unfortunately, Patrick has other things on his mind.

Like It Was Before (E, 11,556 words)

Patrick wants to get more involved in the creative and buying decisions for the store. David is okay with this, until he sees the potential supplier Patrick has been spending so much time with and the way he looks at Patrick. He feels the need to stake his claim on his man.

Through the Dark (E, 12,325 words)

Following a nasty argument, David storms out into the cold winter night, leaving Patrick to ponder the repercussions if David leaves him and decide what to do next.

Weathering the Storm (E, 22,140 words)

David is... less than pleased to learn the team building retreat is mandatory.

He's even more annoyed when the bus that shows up to take them there looks like it should have been decommissioned in the 70s.

When he learns his roommate for the trip is the accountant who's been bothering him since he joined the company? He doesn't know how he's going to get through this.

Why couldn't Stevie have just faked a broken leg?

Should Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot? (M, 6348 words)

Five New Year's Eves that failed to live up to David's expectations and one that surpassed them.

Cabin Fever (E, 17,880 words)

When he hears that Twyla's cousin has a place he rents out, David leaps at the chance to have some time on his own away from his sister in the next bed, and his parents in the next room, to think about what he's going to do with the Blouse Barn money. What he isn't expecting is for the guy who delivers firewood to the guests in the cabin to be so ridiculously gorgeous.

He really doesn't need the distraction. Unfortunately, the more he gets to know Patrick, the harder it is to ignore his growing attraction.

Just For You (T, 8,722 words)

The thing is, David really does love wrapping gifts. It’s easy to get lost in the rhythm of it, in the glide of the scissors through artfully decorated gift wrap, the folding of the paper sheet into sharp creases, the decisive press of tape to seal the loose edges, and the precise placement of a bow or ribbon. There’s something intensely satisfying about laying down the scissors and seeing the final product, all the neat corners and tidy edges, finished off with the flair of a curling ribbon.

When David sees the poorly-wrapped presents his friend has prepared to send out to his friends and family he can't sit by and let it happen, not if he can do something to help. The fact that he happens to be quietly in love and pining for Patrick is beside the point - he's doing this for the sake of good taste.

... Although Patrick's smile is an extra bonus.

The last thing I wrote was a Drarry fic, but that was a Schitt's Creek AU, and before that, I wrote for Check Please, Ted Lasso, and Schitt's Creek. I hesitate to say I currently write for anything, though I'd love to write something again one day, if the muse strikes.

I'm going to count podfics here, but I'm not going to count multivoice ones.

I mean, none of them have an angsty ending, and even though I adore reading angst, I am not very adept at writing it. I have exactly two fics (not pods) tagged with angst. Maybe As long as you love me so has the most angst? The other one is my Bridget Jones Diary AU, so any angst is really thanks to Helen Fielding, not me.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I have no idea! My fics tend to have kind of fuzzy "and they lived happily ever after" endings but probably the most specifically happy ones are Do I have to spell it out for you? and As long as you love me so.

No, thank goodness. I have a very thin skin.

9. Do you write smut. If so what kind?

I do not.

I've done a lot of AUs of other things (like Drarry/Schitt's Creek, Schitt's Creek/Bridget Jones' Diary, Schitt's Creek/Never Been Kissed) but I guess the only true crossovers are my Schitt's Creek/Ted Lasso fics.

Hmmm. I don't have a lot of WIPs, but the one I've written the most for is a Christmas shop one for Schitt's Creek. Maybe I'll finish it finally for Frozen Over this year!

Uhhhhh, I don't know. Dialogue?

I'm not great at world building. I always feel like I skim over that too much, and if I added more, maybe my stories would be richer.

If I were to, I'd definitely ask for help.

Well, in middle school, a friend and I wrote some kind of RPF involving INXS (my first obsession). I think we also wrote some Twin Peaks stuff, but I can't find evidence of it. But officially, Schitt's Creek.

certain songs (aka, indie band patrick): David, owner of the recently re-opened Perennial gallery in New York gets dragged by Stevie to a show where the indie band the Creek Waders are performing. He crosses paths with the frontman and guitarist, Patrick, and finds himself intrigued. Mutual pining, David being an idiot, discussions about queer art, Stevie ex machina, etc etc.

gather up the avenues: David and Patrick dated while in New York but broke up, now neither of them can stand to be in the city because of all the memories. Patrick drives back home to Canada, but ends up stopping in a small town with a ridiculous sign, while David flees to the place with the stupid name his dad bought him for his birthday when he was a kid. I think you can see where this is going.

come on, get higher, loosen my lips: five times alex and henry talk on the phone and one time they wake up together (workshopping this description lol). Actually hoping to finish and publish this in 2023 but we'll see how it goes.

I have a lot of other projects I'd like to finish but I'm not going to list them all here. We'll see how this year goes. I also love an event (clearly) so plan to participate in some of those as they come up (hopefully for both SC and RWRB).

After much thought, I want to start writing about my ace discovery and journey because there really is not much out there for anyone struggling with being asexual. On a personal note, I feel that if I had never ventured into fic writing, I may not have had the courage to start a project like this.

I’ve barely made a dent in the number of works I’ve read and the last 24 hours have been a mad rush in trying to get this done, so here goes nothing: 

FROZEN OVER BINGO BLACKOUT: 

A fic with a rare pair or friendship pairing — i thought i'd ask you just the same

Literal heart eyes for this glorious twylexis, where they bring out the best in each other, obviously!

A fic hot enough to melt snow — the weather outside is frightful

This tender and sexy fic definitely warms Patrick up! *wink wink* 

A fic involving a winter sport or pastime —  Five Ways to Ruin A First Date 

I’m totally counting sledding as the winter pastime. What a hilarious and heartwarming take on one of my favourite tropes— ‘there was only one bed’ but in this case, there was only one SLED. 

A fic that made you feel cozy —  hopes as high as a kite

What a delightfully soft and tender fic that pulled me apart and put me back together in the best ways. Really got into all my Patricky feels.

A fanwork with art —  [art] a very brewer christmas

This artwork is GORGEOUS. The expressions on David, Patrick, Marcy, Clint, all have a story to tell. The attention to detail is wonderful

Ray and Ronnie have the most delightful dialogue in this one. I love how this fic digs into Ronnie’s dating life. DULCE! makes an impressive appearance. The podfic is GLORIOUS and all of the soundscaping just heightens the experience incredibly.  My heart belongs to Joni Mitchell. 

A fic with holiday or family traditions - Christmas at Ronnie’s 

Ronnie and Stevie spend Christmas together over the years. I’m a sucker for these two poker-faced softies having created their own traditions. Lotsa found family feels.

Literal and figurative *pining* as David and Patrick work across the road from each other, annoy each other, and also flirt a lot. 

A fic with a favorite trope - It’s Always Been You 

There! Was! Only! One! Bed! C’mon!! I’m such a sucker for this trope!

A fic that made you laugh or cry -  Good Winter

I AM DECEASED! I AM A WEEPING MESS! I AM WRECKED! Bon Iver is one of my all-time *faaaaavourite* artists, so my response to this was extremely visceral and I have no words. I’m ready to fling myself into the ocean. This isn’t a fic, it’s *ART*

This was also one of my prompt fills and it is absolutely DELICIOUSSSSS in every way! So rom-com-y and so tender and sweet! The banter and flirting was so swoony, and David as an artist is a total JAM for me! Thank you for this gift!!!!

A fic you already reread or plan to reread - Where Every Stay Feels Like Home

Two words: ESCAPE! ROOM! There are so many jokes and details in this fic that I need to re-read this to really absorb them all! It’s funny with so much heart, and the character voices are on-point. What a wonderful tribute to the show!

This fic is sooo much more than the inclement weather! But the weather conditions are responsible for *accidentally* bringing them and keeping them together. Wonderfully flirty, funny, and delightful, despite the circumstances they meet in!
