and we are blowing past last year's (record-setting!) numbers. Can't hardly even see them in the rear view mirror …

Last year, at 29 hours we had 223 individual creators offering 312 auctions in 88 listed fandoms and 76 write-in fandoms.

This year? Well.

We have 354 individual creators offering 496 auctions in 106 listed fandoms and 124 write-in fandoms.

That's … amazing.

2024 in review (pods and fics)

I was quite prolific in 2024, publishing 35 works. The vast majority (33) are pods, though I did publish two very short fics. And most of them were in the Harry Potter fandom, though I did make two short Schitt's Creek pods.

[Podfic] The Man Who Forgot by SlightWeasel Clocking in at 21 hours, it was by far my longest and most ambitious project ever. Such a great fic, and I'm really proud of myself for finishing it. And I bound it.

[Podfics] Twenty-Two Cards by peu_a_peu Rookie Moves is one of my top five favorite fics, and I had so much fun making this (as well as the six other fics in the series.) I also bound it.

[Podfic] By Any Other Name and [Podfic] Through a New Lens Two great, fics by @dracognition. So witty and clever, I immediately wanted to record them after reading.

and the highlight was collaborating on [Podfic] As Easy As That with @reveriepi, @cailynwrites, and @thirdeye1234.

For my 100th published work, I decided to do something different and recorded a wolfstar fic, [Podfic] the son and heir of nothing in particular. It won't be the last! I have more in mind for 2025.

I was so very delighted to have guessed the author of [Podfic] The Superfluous Man (along with a lot of other people) before reveals and was able to get it recorded before everyone knew (with 100% certainty, anyway) that it was peu_a_peu that wrote it.

I also recorded my first @dodgerkedavra fic, [Podfic] See Me and Live, which is so lovely and funny and sweet and it definitely won't be my last Dodger pod. (I have one almost complete, so it'll probably be released fairly soon.)

This is only a few of the pods I published this year, there are plenty more, and since I only record fics I absolutely love, I can wholeheartedly recommend every last one of them, to read, if not to listen to.

Speaking of reading, these are the two short fics I wrote. Very short. Just silly little things. But it was fun to dip my toes back into writing again. The Scariest Witch and Think of the children!, both under 1000 words. So really. Little.

Bound: A Fair Return by thingswithwings

I wanted to bind a fic for a friend, and I decided on this iconic Schitt's Creek fic that was the first podfic they recorded. It is also my longest bind so far, and maybe as long as I'd put in one volume? I don't think it's too unwieldy, though.

Everything was going smoothly - almost too smoothly - when I got impatient and ironed on the vinyl before the glue was completely dry. I suspect that's why the original cover (in "Patrick Brewer button up shirt blue", thank you very much) got all splotchy. Or maybe the fabric was too thin. I dunno.

So I decided to remake the cover in "Patrick Brewer's tight jeans denim" instead. And I think it all worked out for the best. I adore how it looks.

And the holographic HTV? I love how it changes color depending on the light and it behaved quite nicely for me. (Again, patience is key with HTV.)

Gold? Blue? Copper? Depends on the light!

The text block didn't give me nearly as many problems. It all went together smoothly, whew! And my new sewing frame did help when it came to stitching this behemoth together.

Incidentally, this is the third gift bind I've made, but due to various factors, sometimes involving the USPS and keeping a package in Miami for TWO WEEKS, this is the first one to make it to its recipient. I am so excited to share the other two!

the 4 horsemen of adulthood

on monday, i consumed a sainsbury’s meal deal and two cream and jam scones and forgot to drink any water until 10pm. or i didn’t so much forget as think, ‘i’m thirsty’ and then just not do tanything about it—i literally don’t know why. i explained it to three separate people today and they were all like, ‘yep, makes sense.’ ??? does it???

it’s been a long time since my self-neglect hit critical mass like that; i went to bed queasy and woke up with a headache and a bunch of my clothes from yesterday heaped in a corner because i’m nearly 30 and i can’t just not drink water for an entire day anymore without feeling it. i have to identify as nearly 30 so that when i turn 30 in six months i’m not hit with whiplash.

i remember being 15 and staying up til 3am talking to my tumblr friends in america. i remember chugging four shots one after the other and then having the time of my life as fast as possible. i remember not stretching, not wearing spf, not being worried about needing a coat. no longer! ageing is just coming to terms with the fact that you do, in fact, have needs, one essential after the next. sleep, sunlight, movement, water: the four horsemen of being an adult, shortening telomeres and all.

someone reading this might think, ‘hmm, sounds like you’re depressed.’ maybe! this year i’ve been in and out of depressive phases, of varying lengths of time—a few days to a week, usually, but sometimes a bit longer. i think part of this is that i never seem to be able to come to terms with who i am. i’m permanently in a mix of white knuckling my own life and holding it together for fear that i might explode.

this year i bought an apartment. i quit a job that was my dream, because having autonomy and not being controlled and condescended to at work mattered more to me than being purpose-driven in the end. i founded a choir, recorded an album, became a trustee, was featured in an exhibition, and went on a bunch of trips. i pulled the rug out from under myself over and over again just to feel like i was alive.

i often feel i am watching myself as a marionette, and big me is poking and prodding little puppet me with a stick, chanting, ‘change! change! change!’ just to see what happens. because i don’t know what happens. now she moves house! now she quits her job! now she starts using different pronouns! now they’ve signed up for a year long pottery class! what will they do next?! who will they become? who are they becoming right now?

a lot of things are scary and i do them anyway because i believe in jumping out of my comfort zone (me, prodding the puppet self with a cattle prod: ‘change! change! change!’). things like showing up, putting myself out there, holding space, reaching out, sending an email, public speaking—they’re the choices i make to have control over my world and my selfhood, even if they do make it feel scarier. it’s not always so deliberate—usually it’s ending something that’s no good for you anymore, which is sad, and feels forced, but choice is change as a process, not as a one off.

and if that weren’t enough, everything is so fast and so slow at the same time! the days are long, the years are short. the days are long. i don’t have much in the way of routine, which theoretically means that i probably experience less time dilation than average. i would be lying if i said the presence of a nine to five actually made me feel better, because i remember being in it, and it didn’t, but it stopped me from feeling like i am metamorphosing at light speed.

that’s the journey, and embracing it (or if not, at least holding on). from the outside, it’s sitting on the couch, going to a museum, eating a pastry for breakfast not because i can but because i can’t think of an alternative, doing admin, catching a friend for a walk, going to the charity shop and leaving empty handed, picking up a prescription, watching 3 minutes of schitt’s creek at a time, bleaching every orifice in your home to stave off fruit flies. from the inside? it’s the wildest ride. let us take a step back, look at our puppet selves, and let them breathe for a hot minute, because change is gonna come, ready or not.

come close (let me be home) - a Buddie Bridgerton au with Eddie as Viscount Anthony Bridgerton and Buck as Kate Sharma overseeing Maddie finding a new husband.

you're where i wanna go - Buddie historical au that is set mostly in the 1900's with some travels back to 1899, and forward to 1969. Buck and (single, childless, never been married) Eddie meet in 1899 when Buck is traveling after Maddie leaves. with my heart in my lap - Twylexis historical au. Alexis and Twyla get together in August 1939, just before Canada enters WWII. Alexis leaves for college but returns almost immediately because teachers, students, etc have left the school to join the war. When she comes home Twyla isn't there. Alexis goes traveling around and ultimately lands in New York. While browsing a junk shop she comes across a necklace she gave to Twyla when they got together and begins a search to find her lost love.

Ooooh please can I ask you about the rockstar!Alex WIP? I cannot explain how INVESTED in that AU, I gobbled up all the snippets of it that you've posted 👀

ABSOLUTELY you can, because I’m also invested in that one 😅

So this fic started out as a tumblr game. The basic idea was “send me an idea for a fake AU and I’ll give you five facts about that AU.” And @tintagel-or-cockleshells sent me “An AU in which Henry and Alex are exes, also Alex is a rockstar who puts a lot of himself into his songwriting. And there’s a happy ending.”

And… here’s the thing. Up to this point, I’d never had a conversation with tintagel one on one. I’d commented on some of her stuff, she’d commented on some of mine, we’d reblog each others WIP snippets on tumblr. We didn’t know each other outside of that. But EVERY DAMN TIME I did games like this, she would ALWAYS come in with something that made me REALLY wanna game fail and actually write whatever it was. She was just impressively tapped in to the sorts of things that make my brain go brrrrrr 😂

The other thing about tintagel is that she’s on, effectively, an opposite timezone to me. So by the time I answered the ask, she was already in bed. I also hit post on the answer and then immediately went into an hour-long meeting…

And came out of said meeting to like 40 notifications and a DEEP sense of confusion until I actually opened them. It popped off, and I absolutely succumbed to the peer pressure. Which meant that by the time tintagel was back online in her morning, this fic had run the full gamut from “this is a fake AU” to “this has a google doc and oh my god I think I’m writing original songs send help���.

At first I thought it would be MOSTLY epistolary, because I was really attached to #3, and then I had a brainwave about how I could make that epistolary, so… now it’s fully epistolary. I’m gonna have to create MULTIPLE new skins for this sucker. As well as like… recording original songs, because I have never made a sensible decision in my life.

And if you think I can’t inflict immense emotional damage via epistolary, I have a lot of Schitt’s Creek pals who would be HAPPY to prepare you for the Suffering ™️😂

BACKGROUND & DETAILS:

lucy's mother helen knew from the moment she was six years old that she was different than the rest of her straight laced family. it wasn't that helen wanted to get into trouble, it was more that the things that she wanted to do were by her families definition trouble. helen knew from their looks of disapproval, their head shakes, and heavy sighs that her choices were never going to make sense to her parents. so she did everything in her power to push their boundaries. constantly at conflict and tension helen did everything like come home with tattoos, have her hair dyed an outrageous color, and it wouldn't be long before a fight broke out. so of course it wasn't a surprise to anyone when a very headstrong helen decided to pack a suitcase and bought a plane ticket to london with no intention of looking back. she didn't have a plan but if helen was one thing it was determined and quick on her feet. the only thing she knew was that she was going to follow her favorite rockstar around their tour until he noticed her. it was about six shows in when she finally caught his eye. she was escorted backstage that night and after a jack and coke the nineteen year was hooked. it didn't take long for things to go a little further and the rush she felt from being around famous people and feeling important. a summer and some change was all it took for helen's fun-going not-having-a-plan to take a screeching halt. what she hoped was just the common flu was very clearly exposed to be something much more serious when she saw a pink plus sign looking back at her. lucy was born the following september, her mother swearing she was the most beautiful thing she ever saw. the next ten years of lucy's life were a little chaotic to say the least, make shift diapers, dinners out of boxes, and lost of records playinng. helen not much of a fan of structure did what she felt was the best way of raising her daughter. raising her with a love for records and music, always encouraging her to be exactly who lucy wanted to be, never a raised voice or a time out given. however, by the time lucy was nine it was clear helen was in over her head. deciding to return home with her daughter in tow, helen decided to uproot lucy and bring her to the states. tldr; current day lucy still feels the need to take care of her ever flighty mother. a deep love of classic rock, tiny tattoos, and even been known to dye her hair pink she definitely takes after helen in some ways. however, the have a bit of tension since lucy felt very responsible when her moth was very clearly not. she's very rory coded if rory knew how to have fun. very much like stevie from schitts creek. her love language is teasing and sarcasm. has some attatchment issues since her dad pops in and out of her life and always forgets her bday. has a stray she found that she named stevie.

what moment in schitt's creek do you think shows the most growth in david as a character?

Hello! Thank you for the ask! I've been thinking about this one for a while, because David's journey is such an amazing thing to behold. He grows in so many facets of his life over the course of the series, so I think it's really hard to choose a moment where we see The Most growth.

One thing that strikes me about David early on, though, is his loneliness. He isn't a particularly self-centered person when we first meet him, at least not moreso than the other Roses. He's a little aloof. Entitled. Snippy. But he's also generous, and he's never outright unkind. When asked for his help, he pretty much always gives it freely, with only mild complaining.

But David is also really cut off from others. We see how reticent he is to spend time with people he doesn't know well. We know that he has no contact with any of his old friends. We see how his relationships with Stevie and then with Jake blow up in his face.

Fast forward to season 6. David has finally found love. And he's getting married!! But then Patrick says he wants to have a baby??? Record scratch, freeze frame, etc.

Prior to The Premiere, we've seen David agree to move in together when he thought it's what Patrick wanted. We've seen him try to set Patrick up with some random because he thought it would keep Patrick from having regrets later. We've seen him joke(?) that it's too late for Patrick to back out of the marriage when he finds out something embarrassing about David’s family.

I believe old David would've tried to do damage control on the baby thing. Maybe he would've never brought it up, hoping (correctly) that Patrick was too high to remember saying it, and that it would just go away on its own. Maybe he would've hinted at a slim possibility he'd be open to the idea of children. Maybe he would've even offered looking into adoption to appease Patrick, knowing all the while it'd be a huge mistake.

I don't mean to imply David was ever manipulative or dishonest in his relationships. What I'm saying is, there was a time that David was so lonely, I believe he would've done anything to have what he now has with Patrick, including compromising his own wishes for himself. In fact, the first time I watched it, I expected the baby conflict to be dragged out a little more. I expected more hand-wringing, at the very least.

By the events of The Premiere, though, that isn't who David is anymore. He values himself. He values Patrick. He knows he is worthy of love exactly as he is, that he shouldn't have to compromise any part of himself. And he knows that he can't commit to a life with Patrick if they want different things.

So he talks about it with Patrick immediately. He's honest about what he does and doesn't want. He's open about his concern that Patrick might feel differently. He doesn't shy away from the conversation, even though he knows it might mean the end of their relationship.

And what's more, when Patrick assures David that they're on the same kid free page, he takes him at his word. He trusts Patrick because he trusts them; he trusts their relationship.

Would the David of earlier seasons have even been capable of that level of trust? Would he have been able to reconcile his doubt so quickly? Thanks to the work David has already done on himself, he's secure enough in his own skin to be the loving partner we see in those final episodes.

Now that's some growth.

Podfics first: It's gotta be Going Platinum by @cricketnationrise. It's by FAR the longest solo project I've done (I think there's one posted podfic and one work in progress that I might have more audio minutes on, both as a narrator for a multi-voice project, but I didn't have to edit that shit so it's not my problem 🤣) and for some batshit insane reason I decided to do soundscaping/sound effects for the first time??? But I LOVED how it came out, and I was exceptionally proud of myself for keeping it a secret from cricket because that was HARD. (And yes I WILL be recording parts two and three!)

Schitt's Creek fic: Time until the end of time, the afterlife fic @ships-to-sail and I co-wrote over TWO YEARS and, not to toot our own horns, but the fandom at large slept on it 😅 It's amazing, actually.

RWRB fic: This one's brutal. It's almost Much Ado, and idk maybe it should be Much Ado, but I actually think it's Like loving the stars themselves aka the Doctor Who AU. Also a little bit slept on, actually, but not to the same extent as above 🤣 I am phenomenally proud of this one. The genre was way outside my usual comfort zone and I think this fic is the best example of the way I love to write media AUs -- the story bent to fit the characters, so it's very much an Alex And Henry Story, but there are little pieces of DW canon, RWRB canon, and something that's entirely my own.

16. a tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate

There are so many, honestly, but Alex's slightly hysterical thought about wanting to send whoever taught Henry to suck cock a gift basket is so, so fucking important to me for an array of Overthinking/Over-identifying Reasons. Also it's just funny as hell. I was very proud of getting a different version of it into chapter two of the arranged marriage AU, actually; I think that bit in particular is one of the funnier things I've written.
