German Poster: Scarlet Street (1945)
Scarlet Street is a 1945 American film noir directed by Fritz Lang. The screenplay concerns two criminals who take advantage of a middle-aged painter in order to steal his artwork. The film is based on the French novel La Chienne (literally The Bitch) by Georges de La Fouchardière, which had been previously dramatized on stage by André Mouëzy-Éon, and cinematically as La Chienne (1931) by director Jean Renoir.
The principal actors Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett and Dan Duryea had earlier appeared together in The Woman in the Window (1944), also directed by Lang. Local authorities in New York, Milwaukee, and Atlanta banned Scarlet Street early in 1946 because of its dark plot and themes.
The film is in the public domain.

Fritz Lang really had the nerve to put Edward G. Robinson in a frilly apron expecting him to be emasculated or whatever, but jokes on you idiot, it just made him even more of a babygirl for the modern day freaks such as myself!! Too bad the movie was too afraid to capitalize on it and it had a very terrible drawn out ending and that is why Scarlet Street (1945) will never be as good as The Woman in the Window (1944), despite having almost the exact same cast. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
Anyway I just really wanted to draw Penny and Clyde as the characters from the movie, mostly Clyde, because he is an Edward G. Robinson expy after all and I thought he would look really cute being a malewife. He has malewife energy.
I’m still struggling with figuring out Penny’s hair to keep it era appropriate, but still have it resemble the character. Also I know the robes are not her style either. It feels like something she’d borrow from Dick’s closet, because he would have one of those cunty “Oh I didn’t kill my husband Mr. Officer” types of outfits haha~

30 Days of Classic Queer Hollywood
Day 12: Margaret Lindsay (1910 - 1981)
Margaret Lindsay was an American film actress, most active in the 1930s and 1940s. She is best known for her roles in the films Baby Face (1933), Jezebel (1938), The House of the Seven Gables (1940), and Scarlet Street (1945).
Lindsay never married, but she would attend events on the arms of famous gay men to appease the studios.
Historians have agreed that Lindsay was most likely a lesbian, enjoying relationships with women such as actresses Janet Gaynor and Mary McCarty.
