”katrina I was hoping you could expand on some of your recent post in regards to Olivia’s abortion and the over all events of 5x09. In my opinion this has to be one of the biggest loose ends on Scandal period let alone for Olitz but I often wondered since that episode, why hasn’t it been addressed in any real meaningful way? It’s been hinted and glossed over but never fully examined. Hell we don’t even know any back ground in regards to when and how Liv found out, how she arrived at that decision and why she made that decision etc. It just perplexes me that SR would let such a powerful and paramount story that can be done so bueatifully and give a real peak into the window of Olivia’s soul be kind of dead on arrival after the initial shock of 5x09. You being the intellectual mind that you are must have a million ideas and interpretations of where and how that story could go. It is such “juicy” story ripe with layers of complexity, self reflection, and introspection. I also know through interviews that tony felt some type of way about how they story went down, and so did many writers, wanting more back story and an exclamation but Shonda very admittedly shot it down and basically took a hard line. She felt there need not be an explanation other than as a women she has the right to make her own decision no questions asked. I am a firm believer of a women’s right to choose however looking at it in terms of story telling or existential thinking the mark has been missed. In a healthy relationship between to partners something of that magnitude would have to be discussed. ITS ABOUT RESPECT. The worst thing about for me wasn’t necessarily the abortion itself (although that broke our heart) but the lack of compassion and communication. Fitz is the love of her life and she was at the time in a committed relationship, the decent thing to do is to have that difficult conversation and respect that it’s only fair for her to tell him. She needs to put her self in Fitz shoes, if he is to respect her right to choose shouldn’t she in return respect his right to know? I don’t think she is so sure or proud as she boldly claimed to Abby in 5x20 that she’s “not ashamed” of her decision. She couldn’t even look him in the eye and tell him. If she was she would of done the mature adult thing and told Fitz. Is there really such a thing in this as she doesn’t need a reason in this instance? If I’m Fitz hell yeah I need an explanation. I think she didn’t tell Fitz because she wasn’t so sure. Maybe he would have changed her mind. Just look at the scene itself, alone on Christmas Eve no one with her no one to comfort her or to hold her hand as if she was punishing her self. The pain in voice for during that fight scene,“You were trying to save me!…. There is no us! There is no this! There is not Vermont! There is no jam! There is no Future! Not anymore.” She said these words crumbling with tears and if you notice it’s one the only time during the fight she couldn’t look at him in the eye. She turn her back to him as she could barely speak. Like there was some much she wanted to say to him. It seems as though it might stem from mommy and daddy issues and maybe her just not being ready, however Fitz has been talking about kids basically since day one and she never gave an indication that she didn’t want kids. If she didn’t what about birth control? I also question if this has happened before because although possible it’s strange that after 8 years of them on and off and Effing like rabbits just then she got pregnant. I just feel this needs to be addressed in a real way. Does shonda address it in S7? Is this apart of Liv’s journey that’s coming to an end?”

Hi!

Thanks for writing in. There’s a lot in here. I have actually written about my interpretation of Olivia’s decision on the abortion, including not telling Fitz (Scandal #509 Analysis: Wherever You Go, There You Are- analysis of Olitz argument), including Liv’s lack of eye contact with Fitz the entire episode (save when she could lob a nasty accusation his way).

Overall, I don’t think it’s important to address the abortion in S7, per se. Because it’s not really the abortion that some folks are mad about; it’s what it represents: loss of the fantasy future we’ve heard them talk about (especially Fitz),

(hear his voice and talk about Vermont and kids)

seen Liv dream about (minus kids, so we don’t know if she truly shares this fantasy)

one we thought we would get when S5 began:

So, many of us were mourning that loss, and trying to figure out what’s real. The abortion became a tangible thing folks could rail against for the loss of what was much more substantial. The point of much of 5A: the stripping of the fantasy, so that, eventually, the characters (and audience) can be left with what’s real between the two of them. At  least that is my hope for S7.  

I think SR’s hard line about the abortion itself I understood Liv’s decision to not tell Fitz because 1) they were NOT in a healthy relationship (lol). Olivia was not a healthy person at the time, so clear communication was not going to happen. (shit, she’s even more unhealthy now). And Fitz was trying to hold on too damn tight trying to prevent what he knew to be inevitable. 

2) Liv likely did not want Fitz to know because her decision (as I saw it) was ultimately about her dissatisfaction with herself and her own life. Getting that abortion was something within her control that she could ‘handle’, and also right up the alley of a self-sabotager like Olivia. (Let’s face it getting back involved with her father was her surefire way of sabotaging herself, her relationship and the future she claimed to want).

3) I think the abortion issue was mostly dealt with in 521. Liv wasn’t ashamed of the decision she made. But she was concerned that Fitz didn’t know, and she obviously didn’t want him to feel hurt by it because it wasn’t about him, contrary to salty ass Olakers who, everyday on Twitter, draw crass connections between Liv’s abortion and Fitz’s worthiness as her partner (deadass they do this. I have screenshots). There was a tiny window left open when Liv got back to her office after Fitz said “I support your decision”. I think she wondered if that had a double meaning. 

4) Lastly, I don’t care about the abortion topic being re-visited in S7. I only care in so much as I want Liv to be honest with Fitz about her role in the demise of their relationship. She told everyone but Mellie (”I was scared”) that he was to blame for the end of their relationship, and her leaving the WH. In actuality, she had begun sabotaging it much earlier. She has a problem, and addiction. That’s all I care to see addressed.

The Way My #TeamPetty Is Set Up... :Hopes, Dreams and Shade for Penessa and Fauxlake in 605

A/N: This post is dedicated to #TeamPetty. You know who you are. Also= Peter + Vanessa (h/t @jarmstrong05). 

It’s time for one of my favourite pastimes: shading Jake  and Fauxlake (past works cited at the end).  A few stills from #Scandal’s next episode, “They All Bow Down” (605), have emerged:

There are more, but you can find them yourself. The  photos have some in the fandom all aflutter with fantastical assumptions, about which I feel shady enough to address:

Sure, I am about to make assumptions just like they are doing (welcome to basic ass hypocrisy 101, thank you for dropping by.). But here’s where this post is different: I have facts, and not the alternative kind. 

I realized that Vanessa, Peter’s wife (his mama named him Peter; Imma call him Peter), could possibly be an unwitting helpmate in showing up Fauxlake for the farcical clown car of a dirty bathroom it has always been.  

Peter and his wife are a gift! Perhaps their ship will even serve as a foil, or mirror, for Olivia’s past behavior with lil’ Petey Hellno. Vanessa, as an outsider, can evidence the Olake nastyship for the manipulative, gaslighting, abusive, addictive behaviors it has always displayed. Vanessa doesn’t go here, but is now married to Peter, and around him and Olivia a lot. I expect that she will pick up on the fact that they used to fuck; that Jake thinks he’s in love with Olivia; that Olivia has sway over Jake in a way she, Vanessa, does not; and that Jake is crazy and violent. There have been other mirrors so far this season, but we’ve not yet honed in on the Fauxlake opportunities for reflection. Now may be our time, y’all 

Let’s think about this by using reason and facts to dismantle some common beliefs about Fauxlake’s future.

Is that why it “thrived” all the way to Peter marrying another woman, and with Olivia telling him, on the day of his wedding: 

“You were never an option for me. You’re an escape. Someone to toy with. You’re a yo-yo. A booty call. A sidepiece. And frankly it’s embarrassing that you still haven’t realized, after all this time, that if we were together, actually together, I would tear right through you. Destroy you.”

Is that why the Fauxlake ship “thrived” all the way to Liv throwing that tie at Jake as he realized he was her bitch now (521)?

Is all that “thriving” why we heard Liv refer to Jake as her father’s son (521)? Nothing says “thriving” like pseudo incest with a man you know to be married to another woman!

Olivia is gonna fight for Jake now! Vanessa will make her realize how much she wants him 

First of all…

But most importantly, Olivia is supposed to “fight” Peter’s wife for the man to whom she literally said, on his wedding day, as one of her last words to him as a single man: “go marry Vanessa” (518). So, after Olivia expressed the pain and shame (502, 505) she felt from actually loving a man who was married (Fitz), y’all want her to engage in similar behavior for a man she does not even love? After y’all called her stupid for doing it with Fitz?

Basura, the lot of you. 

Forget the love argument, since some of y’all believe in opposite day (”Olivia doesn’t have to say she loves Jake for us to know it’s true” -_-). Let’s try stacking up the facts and deducing the likely outcome. Mmmkay? Olivia basically told Jake to stuff his delusions of a mediocre future on the night of Republican National Convention (521)

That same night (via flashback), we see Olivia tell Mellie (The would-be President to Peter’s Vice President) “we don’t have time” for you to mess around with Marcus, as it could derail their path to the presidency (602). If Olivia would coral Jake onto her struggle ticket, because she’s desperate to win, then why the fuck would she endanger that by having an affair with Vanessa’s husband, the vice presidential candidate?

Olivia is so thirsty for the Oval, that she set up a man based on the the thinnest sliver of evidence (602-603), just for the opportunity to flex on the presidential seal. But an affair with Chilli Pepper dick is totes realistic amidst all of this. 

Do I think it was straight shooting after Liv threw that tie at Jake? No. I feel like I know Shonda better than that. But “thriving” affair? Nah. 

Olivia and Jake will ultimately prevail because their relationship is actually reciprocal. 

A “reciprocal” relationship in which only one person knows the other person’s real name. A “reciprocal “relationship in which one person never told the other one that they were married at one time (technically still married until 506). A “reciprocal” relationship in which one person was on an island with another person–alone–and never shared that they wore a ring given to them by the love of their life��.

Because whatever it is has nothing to do with making sense. I’m not even including all the gas lighting, and the lies–past and recent–because I’ve documented those. Lies like the one Peteroni told Liv regarding why Vanessa was his mark for marriage (514). Shall we revisit the Book of Nope  once again? Let’s:

“I’m not scared. I may be horrible because I’m abandoning you, because I always abandon you. But I’m not scared. Not the least bit. You’re wrong. And pathetic. I could tell you five minutes from now that I want to be with you, that I want to save you. You would crawl back to me. Forgive me. Every single time” (Olivia, 518). 

Let’s follow that up with Peter crawling right back into Olivia’s lair, to be used for her purpose on the campaign (521). Literally, Petey's folks try to act like Olivia didn’t mean what she said in that meanologue because she apologized to Jake for being so savage. You can spit the truth but regret the pain caused to the other person. I didn't see a script in Olivia's hand, yet she knew exactly what daggers to throw.

Where is all this reciprocity and mutual love?

Rowan is literally the only reason why Olivia and Jake can’t be happy in love!

When Olivia had Rowan safely behind bars, did he make Olivia dump Jake and run to go be with Fitz (422)? The opposite has never been true. Not even in 5B. Olivia has never left Fitz in order to be with Jake. Again, the Book of Oop:

“I can’t be with you! It’s not even just that I can’t. I don’t want to. …If I couldn’t make it work with [Fitz], why the hell would you think I could make it work with you?” (Olivia, 518)

Rowan certainly wasn’t the one who made Liv deny Jake after he got married, and Liv "saved" him from Rowan (521). So, y’all can pretend that Olivia hasn’t been making deliberate choices to have Jake, strategically, in her life and for her own goals. But he evidence is clear, sis. Rowan is not the one standing in the way of Olake, Olivia is:

“You’re not good enough for me. You’re weak. You need me too much. Need me to tell you what to do and how to feel and…You were never an option for me. You’re an escape. Someone to toy with. You’re a yo-yo. A booty call. A sidepiece.” (Olivia, 518). 

And if you still want Olivia to pursue this unsuitable boy, then you just don’t love her. Deadass.

Tabloid newspaper TMZ reported that on January 22, 2019, a letter containing an anti-gay epithet and white powder (which appeared to be disguised as if written by a child) were mailed to Smollett at the Douglas Park neighborhood Cinespace Chicago Film Studios where ‘Empire’ is filmed. Authorities have verified that the powder was not dangerous nor harmful. The return address was a dead giveaway that this was the beginning of a well planned scheme. At that time Smollett declined protection by Fox security. The FBI is continuing to look in to the source of the letter and investigate the incident.

On Sunday, January 27, 2019, Smollett was seen colluding with Al Sharpton, who then interviewed him in a panel discussion about raising funds for Bennett College.

On January 29, 2019 after a fun-filled night with his friend “Frank”,  at 2:00 AM in -15* temperatures, ‘Empire’ actor Jussie Smollett felt hungry. So he left his friend’s 340 East North Water Street luxury apartment in Chicago and walked alone to the Subway Restaurant at 521 North McClurg Court in the Streeterville neighborhood.

After leaving the Subway shop, he walked the area of Ogden Plaza Park near 300 East North Lower Water Street instead of back to the residence.

There he allegedly encountered two males who happened to be standing around in the dark, at 2:00 AM in -15* temperatures, wearing gloves and full face masks near the 300 East North Lower Water Street block of Chicago. He claimed they got his attention by allegedly yelling racial and homophobic slurs. It is here Smollett further states they hit him, poured a chemical substance on him, put a rope around his neck, then fled the scene. He didn’t call out or attempt to get help before, during or after the alleged attack, he just quietly returned to his friend’s place and called police at 2:32 AM.

Police radio traffic reveals a dispatcher asking officers to check on a battery report from a caller in an apartment in the 300 block of East North Water Street just after 2:30 AM. The friend of the actor, not Smollet himself, told responding officers that “a noose was placed over the friend’s neck,” and there was no mention of the unidentified chemical liquid. Also, the Sun-Times reports that the rope “didn’t necessarily resemble a noose” as has been widely reported. “From experienced observers, the most interesting part of the dispatch records is this: Responding officers never issued a “flash message” to give descriptions of the offenders to units in the field.” (cwbchicago.com)

When Chicago PD arrived, which was ~45 minutes after the attack, Smollett was still wearing the “thin clothesline, straight out of the package” around his neck. In the lengthy one hour police interview, he asked Chicago police officers to turn off their body cameras to take his report. It is then he stated his attackers went after him because he is gay, and that they had concealed their faces and hands with wearing gloves and full ski masks so he was unable to identify them by race. Police said Smollett took himself to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and is said to be in “good condition.”

Chicago PD detectives collected security images and surveillance video from businesses and other from around the area and have reviewed hundreds of hours of footage from city and private cameras in the neighborhood where the alleged attack took place, but so far have not discovered any evidence or leads on a “possible racially-charged assault and battery” involving Smollett. They are now broadening their search even farther out, including the Chicago riverfront, attempting to locate any evidence to support the alleged assault on Smollett. All they have been able to recover is security image of Smollett alone inside the Subway sandwich shop near the location of the reported crime, and additional video placing him at the scene of the crime. The 12 Chicago PD officers and FBI agents haven’t yet found any video showing anyone but him (not the alleged assailants) in or outside of the Subway.

In the meantime, the alleged attack hit the social media platform of Twitter and other applications. Immediately, supporters of Smollett began discussing the contents of the police report. Those comments soon became questions, which then evolved into embellishments that turned into flagrant accusations, and were soon published on mainstream media outlets and tabloid newspapers. In other words, the little fish became a whale (on paper).

Although they were fabricated, Chicago PD investigators discovered the claims in media reports, and in effort to do their due diligence they returned to interview Smollett again. In that supplemental interview, Smollett was asked if the assailants were wearing red “MAGA” hats and yelled “MAGA” comments at him. Only then did he state they were.

Days later, after no evidence turned up to support the claim, and considering Smollett only made the MAGA claim after social media went viral with it as a trending story, the Chicago Police Department released a statement that the hats and MAGA comment did not happen and any reports of the attackers race are also incorrect because the attackers wore gloves and full masks so he couldn’t see them to make an ID.

Fake hate crimes are reported nearly as often as actual hate crimes. This scandal has all the makings of yet another fake claim to cover up something else like a drug deal, a sexual romp that left skin abrasions, or even a hoax to boost a politicians publicity.  On Twitter you can view @MLChristiansen’s #HoaxHateCrimeOfTheWeek on his Sunday night show. Questions that remain unanswered include:

what injuries did Smollett sustain

were his injuries really the result of a kinky sex romp

had he consumed alcohol, marijuana or other drugs

were carrying weapons

is this a hoax to help Kamala Harris gain momentum for her campaign
