There are four types of fish scales!

Cycloid scales are thin, overlap, and flexible. They're found on primitive teleosts (like minnows and carp).

Ctenoid scales have small, backwards pointed scales (known as cterns) make the fish more hydrodynamic and faster. They're found on Advanced Ctenoids (like perch and sunfish).

Ganoid scales are thick, diamond-shaped, and mostly non-overlapping. They're found on Chondrostei (like sturgeons and paddlefish).

Placoid scales are spikey and tooth-like with nerves. These are found on Chondrichthyes (like sharks and rays).

Prompt 300

Danny squirms and hisses, trying to dig his claws into dark scales as the clouds whistle by. “Wait- Ancients dammit- STOP!” he shrieked, cursing how tiny his own ghost form was compared to his other not-quite-future-self. Wings that could easily dwarf the entire Ops center beat through the air, fast enough to cause his eyes to sting.

“Dan- bring me back- stop-” he wailed, despite the grip on his scruff not even loosening. Yet the larger dragon didn’t so much as twitch back towards Amity, the city disappearing into the distance like a speck. “We have to go back-”

The GIW were- were- They had to go back! The portal was gone (exploded, broken and all of Fentonworks a smoldering mess, oh Ancients he’s gonna be sick-), no one could return to the Realms, they were all sitting ducks-

“Jordan please-” he begged, even though he already knew that between the city, between every other ghost and them, Dan would always choose to keep them safe. But Jazz was hurt, she wasn’t waking up from where she lay limply cradled in Dan’s claws.

There was so much blood, and he only knew she was still alive from the weak fluttering of her core, growing stronger as her heartbeat faded. She needed help, she needed doctors- he doesn’t know if she would be able to come back, not with how they were leaving the ecto-rich city behind and he didn’t want to lose her- Dan’s blank panic was swamping his own, drowning both of them in the emotion as the dragon tore through the sky. Some part of him knew they couldn’t stay in Amity anymore, but- But Jazz needed help- Danny couldn’t help the tears that dripped from his yes, pretending it was merely the clouds as they flew to places unknown to him.

Koi fish lantern by @yuumei-art, assembled and painted by me. The color pattern is loosely inspired by the kujaku variety of koi, which has a metallic reticulation overlaid with colored spots.

#tes #skyrim #my art #do you like my nelvas emojis🧣📜🧣📜 get it? scarf🤗 and scroll🤗 Everything hurts sofucking bad #anyways i talked about them wif my friend quite a bit i basically 'agree' w/ everything that is written about them && their biology in -#- canon; except tes is very much all Talk and no good actual visual presentation of what it's talking about #cus all of the maormer look like garboooo likeee what am i looking @#but since this is just a first test i think i'll keep playing around with their looks later; they are most close to altmer obvi in the -#- sense of how 'mutated' they r. however maormer are more gross looking for the typical human #they do have flat faces and alldat in canon already but i want them to just have nostrils and no real nose bridge #and they have no lips😝 they also have very visible gums. && have anglerfish teeth #what would be fur on other mer is just scales on them and is placed is scattered in the same places #i was thinking of making swimming most comfortable for them so i gave them more fins #they'd have them on arms and legs and the hair on the tail for them is just a big fin🐠#as for hair i'm thinking of them having none of it at all bcos it looks sooooo ugly on them it's very unnerving to see hair on fish #either no hair at all or something with a different texture. like slimy silky thin seaweed #or the hair that m*necraft striders have LMAO #webbed fingers is cuuuute they'd have webbed armpits like they're those flying rodents🐿 lol #i'd place their gills on both the neck and their ribs #whenever they wear clothes they tie their arm and leg fins up ; i think from birth they just stay in water until they hit puberty and -#- r able to actually walk around #another cute fact is that males and females wud look literally the same almost (women are flat chested too)#fish fish fish #maybe i'll rethink some stuff. i still wanna draw fish babies #but in reality i think even the mere existence of maormer is very pointless bc they don't really matter at all do they #tes lore is soooo overstuffed that's why i don't know anything about it my time is so valuable to meLMFAOAOOO #saw a typo in this sorry i'm just chill like that

tbh I couldn’t for the life of me pick a color palette I liked And Render it so I gave up on color. Enjoy the half assery.

Tbh I’ve just been call it Ithacan Naga, but it’s objectively it’s a mix of snake, owl/bird, and human. So 🤷.

Tbh the wings are supposed to be white/gray-brown, cause owls & Hermes, while his scales are supposed to be an oscillating scale from sea green-blue to purple-tinted gray. Uhm. Evidently that sorta didn’t happen but also did. So.

The purple/grayer scales are gonna be more around with the feathers and wings.

Those fin colors are. Too blue and too bright but I love the colors themselves so they’re staying for now.

Uhm. That’s it for now, ig. I’m sorta on a timer rn and I’m tired so <3

my whiteboard doodles: pirate au addition! i watched the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy for the very first time this past month and was struck with inspiration

more sketches + a lil au rambling below

like you can read in the doodles (hopefully, my handwriting is a lil iffy) the Agency is a beast hunting ship commissioned by the Queen (Reggie is actually an ex-member of the Queen’s Navy) to patrol and protect the seas from the mythical monsters and pirates that reside there. Captain Morales’ ship, the Agency, has a particular rivalry with the captain of a small pirate fleet, self-styled Pirate Lord Zor, who has recently set their sights on using the monsters in the water to gather more power.

Phoenix was found by the Agency when they were a teenager, tied to a tiny boat and half-drowned following a storm. they woke up panicked and voiceless, and Doctor Prism quickly deduced that they were cursed and the Agency’s crew decided to take them in. Phoenix hasn’t yet told them that they’re a siren (the harpy-like, feathered kind like the ones in the Odyssey) who was cursed by their own kind, their voice (the source of their power) taken. the conditions of the curse mean that they feel all the pain of being human, but ‘death is no escape’ so nothing can kill them.

John Juniper is also a siren (the mermaid kind) who has all the powers that entails: shape-shifting, the ability to charm people, perfect vocal mimicry, etc. too bad that fellow sirens are immune to his charms.

Doctor Roxana Prism is an absolutely brilliant researcher who revolutionized the study of mythical creatures but feels underappriciated by her crew. she thinks that Zor has got the right idea in trying to turn the beasts of the ocean into an asset.

oh. that was more au rambling than i meant to do. um. whatever. feel free to steal (dare i say, pirate?) whatever aspects of this au you’d like, i think that siren!Juniper alone has like eight fanfics begging to be written about him, i just like putting ieytd characters into silly outfits lol

there are a couple more sketches for this au that @warden-draws-sometimes did that you should go to the whiteboard and check it they’re really good :3 and also look at @solarfizzy’s interpretation of the pirate au it’s good

Pondering Ghosts are Dragons, and just rotating each design in my head I have for them. That is the ghosts we see in the show more than just once or twice lol. Just pondering each of them and potential types and descriptions and how the people of Amity see them, as they’re used to the dragons around, vs say someone from Outside, crossover or no, who are Not used to the maybe slightly eldritch undeath interdimensional dragons around everywhere.

That is not normal for other people.

To the Amity Parkers? Boxy is simply a chonky dragon with small boxy wings and covered in blue scales. To people just coming into the city, it’s like seeing a giant komodo dragon when you’re just walking home- not something you exactly want to see and something that is dangerous.

Kitty’s and Johnny’s weekly relationship tussle? Par for the course really. But to visitors? Two giant wyverns tearing into each other, shimmering greens that could be scales, could be tendrils, and shadows lengthening and thrashing like a living beast all its own.

And this is just the small dragonlings, not even beginning with larger ones like Pandora and Fright Knight, chill as they may be.

Outsiders don’t understand that they’re more than just animals. Amity is used to this, but people who have no clue what’s going on? They don’t.

They call the police, the heroes, the government, for help, for answers. And that? That the GIW can use.
