Choosing You, Choosing Me

Maggie Sawyer jumped from her chair with a clatter. Before Alex could call her lightsaber to her hand, Maggie's lips were on hers. Every muscle in Alex's body went slack all at once as Maggie pushed her into the wall with two hands fisted into her cloak.

"Mmph!" she grunted, unable to speak past Maggie's insistent lips.

"Play along, or we're both dead," Maggie hissed in her ear.

Alex didn't know why she accepted the premise presented to her. She did.

At least, she did until Maggie put both hands flat against Alex's shoulders and shoved her back into the wall. Alex's head connected with a heavy thunk that clacked her teeth together and reverberated in her skull. Her lips buzzed with the suddenly missing contact.

The woman, who'd been all over her a moment ago, now stared at her with near hatred.

"Stay out of the things that don't concern you, Jedi," Maggie Sawyer spat.

What? "But you—" But she…. "What?"

Statues of Liberty

The number of missing people in National City triples overnight, whilst incredibly lifelike statues of said missing people are found in the last known location of each victim, almost like a calling card.

The NCPD hands the case over to the Science Division and Maggie asks her girlfriend Alex and the DEO for help. Alex makes the shocking discovery that the statues aren't statues of the missing people, they ARE the missing people.

Now it's a race against time to locate the alien or aliens with the power to turn people to stone and stop them before anyone else can get hurt.

I don't feel like I understand what "glorification of rape/abuse" means? What specifically does glorifying dark topics look like?

Also I'm concerned about the legality of allowing minors to create NSFW content, and exposing this NSFW content to other minors. "To write or work on an NSFW fic, you must be at least 16. Any NSFW fics written by minors will only have other minors on the team" Many platforms are US based and uphold US laws. For example Discord guidelines ban the exposure of NSFW content to minors- https://discord.com/guidelines

In regards to your questions, first a quick Content Warning: this does go into a short discussion of rape and abuse.

Glorification of rape/abuse/other dark subjects It would be something like Twilight or Fifty Shades of Grey, where one party of a relationship (could be romantic and/or sexual, familial, friends, queerplatonic, and so on) acts in ways that are indicative of abuse, and the other party regards it positively, rather than negatively.

We understand that rape and/or abuse victims are in a difficult and tricky situation, and that there are layers and levels of nuance to how a victim may react to such abuse. We also understand that depiction of such dark themes does not automatically condone them, and this is especially so, for example, if a victim of abuse responds by defending their abuser or painting their abuser in a better light than they deserve, because we know that that is a real response to abuse.

Finally, we understand that to hold your reader's hand and explain why something is wrong is belittling to the reader. And we don't expect you to do so. We trust that anyone who engages with fic will understand the themes and nuance. We trust that readers will be knowledgeable and critical enough to understand when someone has done something wrong, despite what the text (not subtext) is telling them.

We've edited that rule to include the word "outright" to, hopefully, clarify things. It has to be blatant, just plain text, with no nuance, layers, and/or subtext, like Twilight or Fifty Shades of Grey are, to break our rules.

NSFW and minors Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

After going back through our rules, we noticed that some of the wording in our rules inadvertently leave space to be abused in such a manner.

These rules have been inherited from past events with different rules of moderation, and in no way did we intend for minors to be working in a space where they could be vulnerable (i.e., discussing NSFW topics with adults).

Therefore, we have rectified that in our rules, to make it more clear that we are not allowing this, and make it more safe for everyone involved in the event.
