Omg I should tell you.. if you like the Rock character you should check out Vampires :-) it’s his first appearance as a villain. Say hello to bookilla is also a rlly fun manga with Rock in it .
YESS the screenshot i took is from the tezuka website page for Vampires!!! i saw fanart of Toppei and got curious, i had no idea Rock was in it... so exciting, ill definitely read both of those!!! ^_^

An update on Bookilla...with DMP having licensed the series, and with them putting it as a side project on a successful Kickstarter, I’m gonna cancel my translations for now. I don’t want to distract from an official Tezuka release, especially when it’s something I’ve wanted to see in print for a long time. It was fun translating the series, though! The six chapters I’ve done will remain on MangaFox (unless there’s a DMCA. It’s up in the air right now.)

It’s not Bookilla chapter 7, but here’s a short academic paper I did about translating it! This was my contribution to a university course blog.

How did you learn Japanese? What resources do you use when translating?
I started studying it when in high school, so from 10th-12th grades. My university began offering Japanese classes in 2014, so I immediately got into there, and took both levels available. Towards my JPN 220 final, I started scanlating Say Hello to Bookilla as a bit of a study aid.
For any words or verb forms I don’t recognize, I have a bunch of books I turn to. The Making Out In Japanese books are geared towards partying tourists, but they’re surprisingly helpful when learning casual speech and slang. Jisho.org’s dictionary and kanji particle lookup are my go-to web resources, and surprisingly, Google Translate is pretty helpful if you need to quickly type phonetically into Japanese.
