the thing is that the grammys are up to the voters and there are thousands of them (i just did a google search and 12k people are eligible to vote) — it’s impossible for us to know what each of them is considering when casting their preference, so maybe some of them take into account chart positions and numbers, but it’s wrong to say the grammys take charts into consideration since they officially don’t and there’s not a panel of judges averaging out charts and sales to see who wins! also, them being up to individual voters is why racism is such a serious issue at the grammys without it being an issue with the grammys — there’s no criteria of the grammys that actually discriminates (at least afaik!) but there’s an issue with the values of individual voters because clearly some of them have racial biases and are not voting fairly. it’s a veeeeery multifaceted issue
