Washing your hair and taking good care of it is important to ensure any product you have added will be rinsed away, leaving your hair healthy and clean. I love CVS Coconut Milk Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner available for $5.99 from CVS.com. It leaves your hair silky smooth and smelling like the tropics. Yum!
3. Effortless Messy Bun
This hairstyle is great if your short on time, need something quick or just want to keep your hair out of your face. It is super easy and looks great with almost anything. Here is how to get the look:

· Wrap your hair around your index finger like a donut, make sure your index finger is still touching your head
· Secure the donut bun with a thick hair tie on top of your head

Amplify Your Face Cleansing Routine
March 24, 2016 - Elizabeth
For all the ladies out there, it’s pretty standard to have a morning and evening face cleansing regime. Women like to ensure their looking their best with behind-the-scenes care, trying all kinds of tips and tricks. So how can we maximize our cleansing routine and amplify the best possible results? Use turmeric! Yes, I said it – turmeric.
Turmuric has incredible anti-bacterial properties as well as natural healing powers many women are not aware of. It also contains potent antioxidant properties which can be equally as effective when applied topically as it is when ingested. The wonderful thing about anti-oxidants is that they neutralize free radicals present everywhere around us. Incorporating anti-oxidants to your diet is essential in maintaining health and beauty. Lucky for you we have a way to integrate this super-food into a wonderful anti-oxidant facial mask.
But first, here is a little bit about turmeric:
Has been used in traditional medicine as brightener (lightening skin) and dark spot eliminator
Reduces pigmentation
Evens out skin tone
Fights acne, rosacea and eczema
Reduces skin rashes
Fights free radicals
Make your own turmeric mask at home! Here’s how:
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon unsweetened yogurt
1 tablespoon organic raw honey
½ teaspoon organic turmeric powder
Instructions:
It is important to clean the face entirely of make-up, creams, or any other facial cleansers/serums/ powders etc. before using the mask. Mix all the ingredients together until it reaches a consistent paste. Apply to clean, damp skin and allow to sit for 10-15 minutes. Wash off and apply a moisturizer such as Equate Strikingly Unique Moisturizing Lotion which can be purchased at Walmart for $9.46 (on sale from $12.27)
Note: Turmeric can temporarily stain skin, so it is recommended to use this mask at night before bed. Your moisturizer will help to lift any remaining pigment as well.
This mask has incredible health benefits, and I generally couple this mask with Equate Ultimate Dark Spot Corrector found at Walmart for $12.98 (on sale from $16.87).
I hope you found these tips helpful!

Tackling Cellulite: Tips for Smooth Skin
March 9th 2016 - Lisa
If you have cellulite, you are not alone! Roughly 90% of women have cellulite. Cellulite doesn’t discriminate and appears on women of all shapes and sizes. In fact, cellulite is also genetic. So likely, if your mom has cellulite...you will too. It is nothing to be ashamed of, but if it does bother you, there are a few ways that you can go about combating your cellulite to achieve smoother. I recommend the following tips to help your skin look and feel firmer.
Exercise
I know you didn’t want to hear this one, but it’s probably the most important. This is because cellulite is isolated fat storages. Exercise helps reduce fat, which in turn helps to alleviate cellulite. Try to do at least 2 hours of cardio a week. Incorporating strength training into your exercise regimen will help to get muscles firmer and stronger, and help reduce the appearance of your cellulite. This is especially important because as women age, they lose muscle. If you don’t have a lot of time, try doing even 15 squats a day in the comfort of your own home. Or, if you work in an office building, try walking up and down the stairs a few times during your lunch break.
Drink More Water
Making sure you are getting your recommended water intake is key to keeping cellulite at bay. The cellulite under your skin stores toxins. Water helps to flush out these toxins and keep you hydrated. If you find it difficult to consume the 8 glasses of recommended water a day, consider infusing your water! This involves adding fruits & vegetables to your water to give a nice, fresh taste. Here are some of my favourite infused water combos:
Lemon, Lime, Mint, Cucumber
Strawberry, Lemon, Basil
Orange, Blueberry, Raspberry
Lemon, Lime, Cilantro
Kiwi, Cucumber, Raspberry
Change your Diet
To help combat cellulite, try eating more foods that contain lecithin. Lecithin helps rebuild cell walls and repair tissue. Some foods that are lecithin-rich include: eggs, apples, soy, spinach, cauliflower, peanuts & iceberg lettuce. Also, eating lean proteins and oily fish can help reduce cellulite. Lastly, try to limit your intake of dairy & processed, fatty foods. Read our blog on how to “Eat your way to Younger Looking Skin” here .
Exfoliating
Exfoliating is a crucial step in reducing the appearance of your cellulite. I recommend exfoliating as much as possible, but at least twice a week. Using a scrub on your problem areas will exfoliate the skin and improve circulation. You can use a store bought exfoliator (there are many on the market) or you can make your own! I prefer to make my own because its fun, natural and saves me money! Check out some DIY scrub recipes here . After exfoliating, one of my favourite products to use is the Renewing Moisture Body Wash from CVS Pharmacy. This product is enriched with Vitamin E and really helps my dry skin. After your shower, follow up with a good moisturizer. I recommend either the Rite Aid Renewal Body Lotion ($7.49) or CVS Baby Lotion ($3.59). Both products are amazing for dry skin! A combination of exfoliating and providing moisture will help you look soft & smooth.
I hope you found these tips helpful!

Drink Your Way to Glowing Skin
January 12th 2016 - Lisa
In addition to your skincare regime, try adding some of these nutritious juices to your diet in order to achieve beautiful & glowing skin. There are many nutrients in fruits and vegetables that are very beneficial for your skin, and your overall health as well. Whether you don’t like them or can’t find time to eat them, drinking juice is a great method for those of you who have trouble fitting various fruits or veggies into your normal diet.
Apple Juice
Apples are full of antioxidants which can slow down signs of aging (ex. under eye bags, dark circles and wrinkles). This juice will help your skin look and feel soft and radiant.
Beet Juice
Beet juice is filled with tons of nutrients: iron, copper, vitamin C, niacin and potassium, calcium, magnesium, folic acid and zinc. The combination of these minerals and vitamins have anti-inflammatory benefits and also flush toxins away from the liver, helping put skin conditions at ease.
Carrot Juice
Carrots are high in beta carotene (a type of Vitamin A that prevents cell degeneration). Drinking carrot juice is useful for slowing down the aging process. Carrots also encourage collagen growth and can improve skin’s elasticity. If that wasn’t enough, carrots are great at maintaining proper electrolyte balance which helps us stay hydrated and can reduce dark spots, scars and acne.
Pomegranate Juice
Pomegranates are super high in antioxidants, making them your best friend when it comes to slowing down your skin’s aging process. Drinking pomegranate juice regularly can heal your skin of damage.
Grape Juice
Grapes are another fruit high in antioxidants. Drinking grape juice can help improve acne and minimize the appearance of wrinkles. When consumed regularly, grape juice can help you achieve the glowing skin you desire.
In addition to these wonderful and natural juices above I mentioned, I recommend the Equate Beauty facial soap, toner and moisturizer available at Walmart (both in stores and online). These products were specially formulated as dupes for Clinique products. I absolutely love these three products and they are an absolute staple in my skincare regimen. All three products are currently on rollback!

Skin Care Tips for Different Skin Types
January 11th 2016 - Lisa
It is very important to know your skin type so that you can cater your skin care routine so that it is suitable for your particular skin needs. We are all born with a certain skin type which is rooted in our genetics. However, over time, our skin can change depending on how we take care of ourselves. Here are some factors that can influence your skin type:
Hormones
Skin Disorders
Smoking
Medications
Diet
Your Skin-Care Routine
Stress
Prolonged Sun Exposure
Pollution
Climate
There are five basic skin types:
Normal (soft, smooth, even, no trace of oil)
Dry (flaky, feels tight)
Oily (oil present especially on cheeks, nose, forehead)
Combination (oily on the forehead & nose, but not on the cheeks, mouth or eye areas)
Sensitive (becomes irritated and inflamed easily)
Tips for Normal Skin
Normal skin is the least problematic and you can just follow a basic skincare routine without much worry. Cleanse and moisturize daily with gentle and basic products. Don’t forget to use sunscreen!
Tips for Dry Skin
Use cleansers and creams with emollient ingredients. Try to avoid foaming face washes, anything with harsh retinoids or alpha hydroxy acids. If your skin is super dry consider adding a face oil under your moisturizer.
Tips for Oily Skin
Help your pores stay unclogged by using products with salicylic acid or hydroxy acids. Use oil-free lotions and sunscreens.
Tips for Combination Skin
Opt for products that are specially designed for combination skin. Or, you can use different products in different areas (ex. use gels in your t-zone and creams for the rest of your face). The Equate Beauty line of skincare products from Walmart: facial soap, toner and moisturizer work wonderfully on this type of skin. All three products are less than $10 each!
Tips for Sensitive Skin
Use gentle products and avoid anything that is scented. You can calm redness with products that are anti-inflammatory, such as green tea and licorice-root extract.

4 Reasons for Having Dry Skin & How to Cure It
December 14, 2015 - By: Olivia R.
As we transition from the #autumn months to the #winter freeze our #skin (facial and body) take a toll. Dry skin is incredibly uncomfortable but also looks unattractive. Your make up doesn’t apply well, the color of your skin is always off, and it dims your vibrant glow. Everyday life can be dehydrating for the skin but there are other factors that also play a big role in sucking moisture out of the biggest organ in your body - your skin! Listen up and cure your dry face with these tips and tricks.
#Dehydration - We have heard it a million times, we do not drink enough #water. Your body is made up of mostly water but because we exhaust that supply we always need a top up to ensure our insides are lubricated and our skin stays moist.
Cure: Drink 7 glasses of water per day. Instead of counting glasses, make sure that you always have a winter bottle/glass beside you. Sip on it all day, instead of gulping it all at once. A huge trend right now is fruit/vegetable infused water. My favorite is cucumber and lemon water which #detoxifies and refreshes. You can add any type of nutrient rich fruit to your water to give an added nutrient boost as well as sweeten it.
Alcohol - Drinking alcohol is incredibly dehydrating. It is evident when you see heavy drinkers facial appearance that it can make you look unattractive. Generally, because of the dehydrating properties of alcohol you will see a redness around the cheeks and eyes. That being said, enjoying alcohol responsibly is not a crime.
Cure: Match each alcoholic beverage with a glass of water. One beer, one glass of water! It will help you keep that classy demeanor as well as help protect your skin from becoming dehydrated. Try chugging as much water as you can before you go to bed, after a party night of drinking. It is also the best preemptive cure for a hangover.
Proper Cleansing - Over-cleansing can leave your skin dry and more susceptible to break outs. If you dry out your skin with aggressive #cleansers or over wash your face then your skin counters that by producing more oil and thus break outs happen.
Cure: Wash your #face once in the morning and once in the evening. Use a light cleanser in the morning that cleans your face but isn’t aggressive on your pores, the Equate Beauty Mild Liquid Soap works best! You can purchase it at Walmart for $7.96. Buy it here!
After your morning cleanse, apply a light moisturizer before your morning make up. Within the same line of products you can use the Equate Strikingly Unique Moisturizer sold at Walmart for $9.96. Buy it here!
In the evening, use a high quality all natural oil. I recommend almond oil. Apply on your face and use a damp cloth to remove the oil. After use a toner so that any left over days residue/make up is removed. The Equate Beauty Clarify Toner is really great and leaves your skin clean without drying it out. You can buy it at Walmart for $8.96. Buy it here! In the evening, you can choose to apply a serum or thicker moisturizer, or both.
Using a gentle facial exfoliator once a week is really beneficial. It removes all the dead skin so that the exposed skin on the surface is the cells that get all the nourishing. The Rite Aid Renewal Daily Scrub Acne Wash works really well to exfoliate and it has salicylic acid which helps treat and prevent break outs. You can purchase it for $5.99. Buy it here!
Smoking - Smoking sucks the life out of your skin. It damages skin cells and reduces blood flow to your skin which makes it looks dehydrated. It accelerates the rate of aging, so your skin looks older then it actually is.
Cure: Quit! Every time you think that you want a cigarette delay your craving by 5 minutes. You also have to find something to replace smoking. Perhaps that is candy, water, or a smoking replacement of some sort. Thinking that you can quit without a plan will only leave you relapsing.
Stay looking dewy this winter & stay savvy!

Holiday Makeup Removing Tips
November 6, 2015 - By Dani
The Holiday season is upon us and with so many social obligations this time of year, with it comes holiday party looks. Glitter, sequins and metallic shine aren’t just limited to party dresses, gift wrap and decorations. If you’re the type of beauty who loves rocking a bold makeup look to parties, this is your time to shine! After an exhausting day of running around, it’s easy to slip into bed without washing off our faces. Don’t let the holidays be an excuse to forget about your skin. Although this is a busy time of year, we must still make an effort to keep up with our skin care routines. Here are some tips to make it easier to manage:
Makeup Removing Wipes
There has never been a better stocking stuffer than these little life savers. Makeup removing wipes are the perfect solution to getting product off your face in a quick and effective way. No matter how tired you are, using a wipe is easier than immersing your entire face in water over the sink trying to scrub off that smokey eye. Keep a pack of these in your bedside table to avoid using the excuse that you’re too exhausted to get out of bed. Follow up with a moisturizer like the Equate Strikingly Unique Moisturizing Lotion and give yourself a deeper clean in the morning.
Coconut Oil & Cotton Pads
Out of wipes? Head down to the kitchen and grab some coconut oil. This delicious oil isn’t just for cooking. With so many uses, even as a makeup remover, you should keep a designated jar of this on your vanity. Using some cotton pads in the same manner that you would use wipes, gently rub off the makeup and follow up by washing with your preferred cleanser. I recommend using the Equate Mild Liquid Facial Soap. Your face will smell delicious and it also leaves your skin feeling smooth.
Borrow from Baby
If all else fails, borrow some products from baby’s room. This mild and paraben free Baby Hair and Body Wash is a great example of a savvy makeup remover in a pinch. Just use a cotton swab or pad and use a little to gently remove makeup. This might not work on hard to remove waterproof makeup, but it will work on a lighter application and make due until morning. Be sure to at least follow up with a toner afterwards, like the Equate Clarifying Toner to reset the pH balance of your skin.

9 Beauty Hacks That Will Save You $
August 9, 2015 - Leana
For all of our beauty blogs and beauty vlogs. Visit The Savvy Beauty!
When it comes to #beautyhacks, #beautytips, #beautytricks there is no better #beautyblogging website than #TheSavvyBeauty. Follow us to get the industries best beauty hacks, that will not only save you money, they will save you when you don’t have all your #beauty magic tools.
Vasoline
I regularly use the #Equate Precision Focus Wrinkle Serum to erase fine lines and as a primer before applying #makeup. It is a must have beauty #dupe that can be bought at your local #Walmart location or online for only $14.88. However, if you are traveling and need a quick fix to erase fine lines try applying vasoline to your wrinkles. Apply the #vasoline by rubbing the jelly in a circular motion for 2 minutes on the desired area. This will reduce swelling and fill in the fine line gaps. It works really well for the under eye area.
Ice Tea Powder
If you are southern girl, we know that there is one thing that you do not lack and it is ice tea. Use ice tea powder and apply it to your lips and viola you have a quick dark stain that will stay all night. Try using a clear lipgloss to run over your stained lips to keep the color sealed.
Exfoliate Your Face with Baking Soda
Baking soda is the ultimate cure all. It can naturally help you clean your house, get rid of odors, make your whites whiter, and the list goes on. Try using this miracle powder in your facial routine. The powder of baking soda is not too abrasive and it will remove any dead skin cells that linger on your skins surface. Create a paste that is three parts baking soda and one part water. First rinse your face with a light cleanser – my personal favorite is the Equate Mild Liquid Facial Soap. You can buy it at Walmart for $7.96. After apply the baking soda paste and gently rub in a circular motion and count to 30. Rinse your skin with warm water and then close your pores by rinsing your skin with really cold water. Immediately after apply lotion. After you #exfoliate your #skin, it tends to feel dry so it is important to apply lotion right away. I use the facial lotion from Equate – Strikingly Unique Moisturizing Lotion which is a dupe of the #Clinique facial beauty line. You can buy it at Walmart for $9.96.
Eyelash Curler
Curling your #lashes give you that automatic boost you’ve been looking for. “Turn your spoon horizontally, and sandwich your lashes between your thumb and the rounded edge of the spoon and curl from the root,” says Lori Leib, Creative Director of cosmetic brand Bodyography. “Once the lashes are curled, put the round scoop of the spoon over your lid, and apply mascara. This will keep the mascara from smudging onto your lid.” This beauty hack will revitalize your look and extenuate your lashes.
Mascara Dye Job
Pesky grays can cost you a fortune to cover up at the #salon. Simply apply black mascara or brown #mascara depending on your hair color. Make sure that it is a waterproof formula so that the color sticks! It’s a quick fix and allows you extend the time between your dye jobs.
Lemons
#Lemons are the ultimate detox remedy and are super easy to incorporate into your lifestyle. Every chance you get use lemons! Add them to your water bottle when you are roaming around or going to the gym. Always have a full glass of water – with lemon slices beside you at your work desk. In the evening, forget spending money on expensive detox teas just heat some water and add lemon juice. Lemons help to remove toxins and leave your skin and body feeling healthy and fresh!
Fish Oils
If you have problematic skin like I do first check out my video for acne-prone skin treatment. Check it out the how to video: http://thesavvybeauty.com/beauty-vlog/acne-skin-care-routine/ . Couple these beauty secrets with taking a daily fish oil supplement. Take this consistently for one week and you will start seeing dramatic differences in your skins complexion.
Coconut Oil
Buy a good quality coconut oil to replace your body skin mositurizer. Coconut oil makes your body (especially your summer time legs) look silky and radiant. It is also super hydrating! If you suffer from dry or cracked soles apply a generous amount to your feet at least 3 times a week while you sleep. You will wake up with soft and smooth feet – no medical formulas required. For a DIY coconut oil facial watch this video: http://thesavvybeauty.com/beauty-vlog/diy-coconut-oil-hair-treatment/.
Cool Air While Blowing Drying Hair
Use a hot setting to style your hair and then once you have achieved that look apply cool air to the hair pieces to seal in the style. Also, cool air makes your hair shiny. You will find that if you blow dry your hair often it becomes dry and lacks luster. Using the cool setting is an automatic way to add shine!
Stay Beautiful!

My Top 3 Favorite July Dupes
By Lisa - July 13th 2015
At Savvy Beauty, saving #money while looking great is our ultimate goal. We love finding #dupes for this reason. Dupes work exactly the same as brand-name #products but are so much more #affordable. Why spend more money when you don’t have to? Below I share my top three #favorite dupes so far this month.
CVS Illuminating Facial Cleanser (Compare to Aveeno Active Naturals Positively Radiant Cleanser)
This #cleanser contains soy which really helps to even out your skin’s #tone & #texture. It is super effective at removing all #makeup, dirt and oil. After using this cleanser my #skin feels incredibly #fresh, #clean and #soft. It gives my #face a #beautiful #glow and this product is so #gentle that it can be used every day. This product costs $6.99 and can be purchased at your local #CVS #Pharmacy or online. This product is super affordable and only costs $1.04/oz. I use this cleanser in the morning by wetting my face with lukewarm water and apply a quarter-sized dollop of the product to my face. I work it into a lather in circle motions and then rinse. I use a soft towel to pat my face dry.
up&up Anti Aging Body Wash (Compare to Olay Age Defying Body Wash)
I absolutely love this #body #wash. It is enriched with #Vitamin E and is super effective at combating the #dry #skin that comes along with #aging. This is a super rich body wash that lathers wonderfully and smells terrific. You only need to use a super small amount because it lathers super well when used in conjunction with a bath loofah. After using this body wash, my skin feels #soft & #hydrated and the #moisture lasts all day. My legs tend to be very dry, and this body wash has really improved the way they look and feel. I have started to use this body wash instead of #shaving cream and I have noticed a huge difference in my leg’s moisture levels post-shave. This product can be purchased at your local #Target store for $3.84 for a 24 oz bottle. View more about this product online on the Target website.
Rite Aid Renewal Body Lotion [Extra Strength, Medicated] (Compare to Gold Bond Triple Action Relief Body Lotion.
As I have mentioned before, my skin is incredibly dry. Sometimes it is so dry that it becomes itchy. I can’t stop scratching it which just makes my skin look worse and worse. I’m loving this product because it has completely rid my skin of itchiness and keeps it #hydrated for long periods of time. After using this product my skin immediately feels #softer and more hydrated. This lotion is both #fragrance & dye free and has really deep moisturizing abilities. If your skin is incredibly dry like mine, I highly recommend you try this lotion. It is very affordable and can be purchased for only $7.49 at your local Rite Aid pharmacy or online (get free shipping when you spend over $34.99 – product usually ships within 24 hours!)

7 Beauty Tips For A Girls Summertime Hangover
June 30, 2015 - It’s #summertime and we all know that sometimes those mid week events are too tempting to let up. Unfortunately, a late Wednesday night only precedes an early Thursday morning wake up call for work. Although, you would #love to stroll into work with a coffee and pyjamas, duty calls and the #beautiful you still has to #shine.
Follow these #beautytips and #beautytricks for that refreshed look that will make any #girl ready to take on her workday.
1. Depuff your #eyes – Set your alarm to wake up 15 minutes earlier. Wet two tea bags in cold water. Then go back to your bed and lay down for an extra 10 minutes. Not only will the soaked and cold tea bags help your eyes look less puffy, but they will also help remove any lingering redness. Note, put your alarm clock because laying down can be relaxing and easy to drift off to.
2. You have just spent the night drinking your favorite fruity cocktails so your body and your face is in dire need of #hydration. After #cleansing your face use a hydrating #moisturizer. I love the #Equate Mild Liquid Soap. It is light and not too aggressive so it will not leave any redness on my skin. I follow the next step in the Equate line of products with the #Equate Strikingly Unique #Moisturizing #Lotion. It leaves your skin hydrated all day. You can buy Equate Mild Liquid Soap at #Walmart for $7.96 (it is currently on #rollback pricing). The #Equate Strikingly Unique Moisturizer can also be purchased at Walmart for $9.96 (rollback pricing), regular $12.87. I would skip the toner altogether on this particular morning to prevent any further dryness.
3. Wear a bold color on your lips – a nice vibrant pink preferably. #Pink will not extenuate the redness in your #eyes and #skin, but redirect the focus to your #lips. Avoid using blush on your cheeks but rather use powder, again to reduce redness.
4. Drink #water! This may seem obvious but chug it when you wake up and sip on it all day. This will bring that much needed hydration back to your skin. Have a water beside you at all times throughout the day.
5. Tie your #hair back. I recommend a nice #braid or a high pony. This will make your face stand out and not look shabby with messy hair. A #cute little #bow makes any hairstyle look #trendy.
6. Of course, before starting your day with any of this. You got to take an aspirin. Aspirin will reduce all your throbbing and allow you to focus so you can work done.
7. Of course, even though that tasty Long Island Ice Tea is great, be responsible with how much you drink. Couple your alcoholic drinks with some water throughout your night.
Stay beautiful and have fun.
