My Highlights from WWE Backlash 2023
So it's time for Backlash, this time set in Puerto Rico as WWE effectively start a PPV year that feels like it's gonna be multi-national (if this and UK MITB is anything to go by). But let's see all the postive highlights we get from the show
Spoilers for Backlash 2023
An immediate plus goes to the Puerto Rico crowd, this is why AEW have sold over 60k tickets in Wembley (including myself), Americans get spoiled by how frequent the shows are in their state or nearby state because it's home territory, but elsewhere fans will bite your hands off to get a seat
That drone footage entering the stadium was a great idea too
The match was a great showcase for Io Shirai (and this was Io Shirai, not Iyo Sky like before), she won over the crowd in spite of being a heel, spent much of the match working a limb and keeping Bianca grounded
Savio Vega!? Did someone need a mystery tag partner?
Ripley in white and the 'mami' choker
Vega had to do the Puerto Rico flag, I mean I can't blame her either you can see how much it means to work in her home...territory?
LA CHANCLA
Looks like they immediately wanted to remove the sour taste of Vega's loss with the Street Fight
Bunny brought his weapons in advance
This is why Bad Bunny is better than Logan Paul though, Bunny is okay with looking inexperienced and vulnerable, Logan Paul has to play like he's an equal to the likes of Roman, Rollins and Miz, which I've never been able to buy
The narrative is clever too, because it's only when Priest is frustrated by Bunny that he uses weapons
Carlito!?
LWO finally having strength in numbers over JD does pay off their popularity
Priest is selling his leg like he needs it amputated too
We continue the narrative of Solo being the enforcer through the match
Jey and Solo's moment of dissent was well done
Conclusion
Overall I feel like it was an okay show, not exactly beating the B PPV allegations though.
Match of the Night: San Juan Street Fight - Io/Bianca was close but I think Bunny and Priest edged it on entertainment value Best Outfit: Zelina Vega Best Performance: Iyo Sky, she proved herself a lot in her match Spot of the Night: Solo almost spiking Jey. A moment charged with narrative just about beats the high spots of Bunny and Priest

The Gimmick Table: The Origin of Kwang
The Gimmick Table takes a look at the origins of some of your favorite and not so favorite gimmicks of professional wrestlers.
Brian Damage A gimmick is something that is intended to hook the attention of fans to a wrestler. They may be outrageous or steeped more in reality, whatever the case may be…some have succeeded and many others have failed. The Gimmick Table takes a look at the origins of some of your favorite and not so favorite gimmicks of professional wrestlers. Continue reading The Gimmick Table: The Origin…

Savio Vega got a crazy pop.
They knew Puerto Rico would appreciate that moment because the middle of Georgia would have been like "Who that? Coach?".

WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT/FEDERATION MAGAZINE: December 1995
TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALL GAME-CHICO?
Razor Ramon was just one of many Federation superstars who participated in a charity softball game to help raise money for the Joey Marella Scholarship Fund and the Union Township Boys and Girls Club of New Jersey.
As you recall, Joey Marella, the son of Gorilla Monsoon, tragically passed away on the morning of July 4, 1994, following a World Wrestling Federation event. Joey, a Federation referee, was literally loved by everyone who was privileged to have him touch their lives. Since his death, the superstars of the World Wrestling Federation have held an annual softball game to help raise money for a special scholarship that has been established in his name.
Some of the brave who donned the hat and glove to take on Union Township’s all-star, ALL-WOMAN team (with the exception of their pitcher, Yankee relief ace Steve Howe) were: the Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels, Big Daddy Cool Diesel, the 1-2-3 Kid, Savio Vega, Fatu, the British Bulldog, the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase and Henry Godwinn.
Who won? If I told, I’d have 10 angry superstars looking to bodyslam me into oblivion!
