Roleplay with @copper-9spurgatory - Clipped Wing Princess AU - Our Princess is in another train car
The train showed no signs of slowing, Jane and J had made it aboard through the portal. Once it closed, they looked around. J could feel it, she could feel her Tessa's energy, it was sad and lonely. "I feel she's this way," 'Leslie' stated as she began to walk forward, before glancing back to Jane.

Tag List Clean Up — Spring 2024
I haven't done one of these in a while... so I figured it was about time. I was going to just drop everyone who hasn't interacted with a fic in the last 3 months, but I figures I'd at least give people the option to stay if they want it.
Below the cut is my current tag list. By the end of May, I will create a new tag list based on who interacts with this post!
If you would like to stay, be added, or be moved, please let me know.
If you'd like to be removed and you haven't interacted recently, you don't have to do anything. If you want to be removed but have interacted recently (last 3 months), just let me know. No hard feelings either way!

Tumblr media
“and where have you been?” My best friend Tess says while she sits on my bed, cross legged, her gym clothes still on. She smirks at me before throwing my pillow at me face, earning a groan from me. “Tee I feel like shit, no abusing ur token gay today please” I look over at her before falling next to her on my bed face first. “What’s wrong? Did Bea or Jason approach you again? Look when I come back to school tomorrow I’ll stick by your side to make sure they piss off yeah?” She states proudly.
Tess has been my best friend since middle school, we can’t actually remember how we became friends but our closest guess would be that we got sat together in some class, the rest is history. She got put into a different high school freshman year, however she is being transferred to Evanston for the rest of high school.
I lift up my head and smirk “oh yes my princess in shining armour please save me from this distressing part of my life” I say dramatically, rolling over to face her fully. She smiles back, shoving my shoulder a little laughing, her face lights up and she scoots forward a little “oh before I forget, this girl in my bookclub called Cady said we can sit with her and her friends at school, she’s really nice, and her friends sound amazing” she says while grabbing her tote bag off of the floor and pulling a book out, swatting me on the head with it “now read and we shall watch a movie of your choosing later” she hands me my book off of my cabinet.
Tumblr media
——-
Cady walks into my basement where me and Damien are already sat down gossiping about todays events “hey guys where did you two disappear to earlier?” She says while plopping her backpack down and sitting on one of the beanbags. I look over to Damien begging him to not say anything, but let’s be real it’s Damien. “Damage control, little miss lover girl may or may not have overdosed a little” he says, earning a slap on the arm from me “for one” I look over to Cady pointing “she didn’t overdose, two she got spiked, three don’t call it damage control, im really worried about her” I say with a sad smile. Cadys phone pings a few times earning an ‘ooo’ from Damien, she picks it up and smiles “oh it’s my friend Tess, she’s just transferred to Evanston, I invited her to sit with us if that’s cool?” She says vibrating with excitement.
Great another new friend. Actually this might take my mind off of y/n, seeming though she hasn’t stopped ringing through my mind since that one gig.
—-
“Y/n/n. Wake uppppp” I am shook awake by Tess, “cmon we fell asleep” she says, my body jolts up, how did we fall asleep? What time is it? I look over at my alarmclock, it’s only 6am. Thankgod.
I roll over to face her and she smirks “hey do you have any clothes I can steal?” She laughs before getting up out of the bed and grabbing me by the ankle and pulling me with her to my closet. “Ugh fuck you and your strong rugby arms” I curse her out half asleep as im being dragged across my room.
I sit up and she is raiding my closet. Groaning I lay back down on the floor, she walks back to my bed, clothes in hand then back to my closet. I start laughing “you’re in the closet” I say squinting up at her with a smirk. She kicks my shoulder and throws some clothes on my head “cmon goofy, get your emo ass dressed” I stand up and we get changed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Upon entering the school, Tessa is stared at by every man we walk by, we attend classes together, I thank every god in the sky that me and her have all of our classes together. The day is going smooth until third period art, we walk into the room, she is told to sit in front of me, that’s when Janis strides into the room, immediately noticing the blonde and freezing up.
The story is, Tess is Regina Georges cousin, she attended the same middle school, was indeed apart of the plastics. However Tess had no part of the downfall of Janis.
Tess turns around to me “is that?” She asks leaving the question open. “Mhm” I groan back to her. “As in your longtime crush Janis?” She mocks me, with a sweet smirk. I throw a pencil at her as Janis walks by, sits down next to us. “Hey Janis, y/n here has told me so much about you” she continues, making me regret being born. The class goes by, I end up drawing sketches of people in the class, while my dearest best friend talks to Janis, telling her embarrassing stories.
——
Walking into that art classroom was my worst mistake of the day so far. As soon as I walked through that door, I saw her. Tessa George, or as she goes by now Tess. You see the problem with Tess is that she is one of the kindest souls to walk the streets of suburban Illinois, however she is regrettably related to the one and only Regina George. In middle school, Tess was there for me when we were both plastic but when Regina ruined my life she was out of town and didn’t find out till I was long gone and expelled.
“Heyy Janis, y/n has told me so much about you” she says happily, meanwhile y/n groans a little and puts her face in her hands before slowly putting her head on her desk while Tess continues to talk about y/n, spilling secrets and telling stories. “Oh and then there was the time she tried to fight a man a foot taller than her when she was drunk” the blonde continues her rant. My eyes flicker from y/n to Tess, I never knew y/n was even friends with Tess, never mind best friends. Tess sounds really good for y/n. The bell chimes to indicate lunch has started, Tess grabs her phone and squeals causing y/n to roll her eyes, I try to ignore them, I start to pack up, grabbing my bag “Cady said meet her outside, she can’t wait to meet you” Tess said, grabbing y/n’s arm and dragging her out of the classroom. So Tess is cadys mysterious friend.
I walk to outside and find Damien, we end up sitting under our tree, I pull out my cross stitch and start sewing the rest of the eye I have been working on for this art contest. I hear leaves crunching and look up to see Cady, Tess and y/n walking over. “Oh my god, is that Tessa?” Damien starts to freak out. “Y/ns best friend Tess, Regina’s goddam cousin Tess?!” He exaggerates but shuts up just before they reach us. They all say hi and sit down. Y/n sits next to me, Tess and Cady sit on the other side of Damien.
Tumblr media
“So Cady tell us about this Aaron dude you cannot shut up about” Tess says while nudging Cady. to this all of us snapped our heads toward her “Samuel’s Aaron Samuel’s?” Damien asks “oh no Cady no” I continue “are you unwell?” Damien leans forward. “Wait you like my brother?” Y/n speaks up making everyone stay quiet, I look over and she shakes her head “Cady in the nicest way possible be careful, things with him and Regina ended horribly, and I don’t want him to be hurt” she says protectively “well things ended horribly with you and Bea but I don’t see Aaron sticking up for you” Cady bites back. A few seconds go by in silence before y/n stands up “sorry I have to go grab my charger from the art classroom” she says, Damien and his quick thinking blurts out “Janis can go with you, she left her needles there” which makes me look over and mouth ‘what?’ To him.
Y/n starts to walk away not waiting for me, which would be my que to get up and follow her, I stumble up and run after her. We end up in the art classroom, she grabs her charger and turns to leave but I grab her arm. “Wha..” she starts to say “what’s going on with you?” I cut her off, she looks at me as if she’s trying to analyse me to see if she can trust me. “Nothing in fine” she shrugs “no no your not now tell me what the fuck is going on” I push further, walking to the door and locking it. I walk back to her and hug her. She stumbles back a little but regardless her arms wrap around my waist. “Sorry” she mumbles into my shoulder “maybe let’s try explaining our actions instead of apologising for them” I say while rubbing her back. “Jason got his friends and beat me up, I rely on drugs to cope, my brother is in love with the queen bee of the school. Everything hurts jan” she says while tears stream down her face. I pull away from the hug and wipe her eyes. “Okay so we keep you away from Jason, we find better ways to deal with pain and we ignore the fact Regina exists mh?” I push some hair out of her eyes. She stares up at me before stepping forward a little, wrapping her arms around my neck and pulling our faces together, she pulls me into a kiss. My fingers graze her hips and I use the loops of her belt to pull her closer to me. She starts to pull away to say something “this isn’t going to be awkward later right?” She questions, “no..I really don’t think so” I say pulling her in again, deepening the kiss.
Tumblr media
——
(With Damien and the girls)
“So shall we talk about the elephant in the room?” Damien says as Janis and y/n walk away.
“What the fact that those two would make an adorable yet scary power couple?” Tess quips back to the boy, in return he clicks his fingers and points at her “truth” he says smirking.
“So how do we get them together because I know Janis is as stubborn as they come and y/n well y/n is just y/n” Damien laughs.

Okay let’s talk about Murder Drones Finale 😭😭😭
SPOILERS FOR EP 8! ALL OF IT. MURDER DRONES SPOILERS HERE
First off that opening was so cool. Brayden's still on fucking fire, the teacher is so over it. I love it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nuzi being Cringe!
THEY ARE SO FUCKING CRINGE YOUR HONOR I LOVE THEM! Uzi asked are they dating and he says "That was the plan!" I LOVE THEMMMMM OMGGGG! I can't get a good screenshot of it but they do wrap they tails together during the fall.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Animation
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I just- it's so fucking good. The red lights as the planet is destroyed. The way that the purple light of Uzi's Null reflects on Cyn's robotic and flesh parts. This is an episode you gotta watch frame by frame. I'm just gonna lump cinematography and shot choices in here too. Like the only way for everyone to truly understand what I'm talking about I NEED YOU TO WATCH THE EPISODE! Like it's well known that every episode is a reference to a horror movie, the Prom is Carrie, Cabin Fever is Friday the 13th, etc. I feel like we don't appreciate how scary this show actually is. The way shots are laid out and scenes are paced give off such unease. It's great I love it. I'm sorry but Uzi trying to put her own heart back in her chest AND save N who is being disemboweled is INSANE WORK. AND THE HANDS! THE HANDS!
AND THE EXPRESSIONS! YALL- FUCK- getting across so much emotion with robot characters is always my favorite thing to see.
And of course! Uzi, N, and V vs Cyn and J. I- it's just- y'all go watch this fight pls. This shot is so fucking beautiful...
Tumblr media
J vs V
So J knew the whole time. Big Yikes. ALSO MY PRINCESS BABY GIRL IS ALIVE! God on J for living past the end credits but WOW- for Cyn to trick her... I wonder how much of that she really thought was Tessa.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Khan, Lizzy and Thad
Tumblr media
I love this shot of Khan so much.
I still believe that the "secret friend" was Khan and/or Nori just because there is no reason for Lizzy to not tell Thad (also V texted her AFTER the planet exploded to let her know she's alive which she wouldn't need to do if she still thought Tessa was Tessa). It would be funny if it was all three. Nori was gonna get the cross to the surface and give it Lizzy to get to Khan. Khan asked Lizzy to find the hideout since she was hanging out with V in between Ep2 and 3 and then V texted her after the planet exploded to stall J. Honestly love that for Lizzy did the most and cared the least. Side note, the way Lizzy is so unbothered in the fight confirms to me that she is the homeroom teacher's daughter.
But yeah! I'm glad these three made it to the end and they didn't do the thing where Lizzy and Uzi become besties. I like Lizzy as V's friend more. Love love LOVE- Khan looking at Nori's core and saying "Kinda hot..?" Nice to know that the Doorman women have a type. And Thad. Sweet little prince Thad. Just a good dude.
Cyn (this whole part is rambly)
Tumblr media
I've been very specific about referring to Absolute Solver as Cyn. I usually write "Absolute Solver/Cyn" when reffering to them. Cyn is dead though. Uzi burned up her core and ate the [null]. So for brevity, I'm just gonna call it/them Cyn.
Speaking of Cyn. I love Cyn. I don't think I talk about how much I love Cyn. I can't talk about Cyn without talking about her relationship to N, V, and J. N, V, Nori and Uzi all refer to Cyn as her. J refers to Cyn as it. Cause that's all it really is. Cyn was the host- someone who is long gone. Even when Uzi was taken over V was angry at Cyn: "Same horrors, huh Cyn?"
Tumblr media
J on the other hands says: "It tricked me too." She's knows what the Solver is and sees it for what it is, a virus. We've seen from the memories that N and V (especially N) were a lot closer to Cyn than J who sided with Tessa and the Elliots. This distinction of calling Cyn shows that N and V can't or won't distinguish the two. This is someone they grew up and lived with. N is hesitant and scared cause that's who little sister vs V who is angry cause this is the creature that replaced Cyn. Remember V says "We do our job, and that thing leaves us alone." As far as V is concerned Cyn was always like this and she just wants to save her team, especially N. (As far as Uzi and Nori go, they've never known the Solver by any other name except Cyn so no need to change it. Absolute Solver is a mouthful compared to Cyn). My point it, it hurts seeing the person you love become a monster and even more to know that Cyn 1001 was never there. The only time we saw her was as that little scared Robot in the pile. They never really knew her and maybe there's hope that Cyn, their Cyn, is in there but she isn't. She never was, it's always been the Solver.
And because I have to mention it. In N's flashbacks after Cyn caves his chest open we see flashes of this happening at the mansion and V's body on the floor. Which was expected, we know Cyn made them but what I'm thinking is, Cyn DEFINITELY used N to kill Tessa.
ANYWAY- now I get to talk about how much I love this fucking little freak. She is so CREEPY! I love everything about Cyn. I love how she moves- how her movements are so creepy and fluid. Like all the animation is fluid but she moves extra-fluid. It's creepy she's creepy I love her! I love how much personality she has, they totally could have went the soulless machine route but no, just like the Worker Drones she HAS personality! She sadistic, malicious, and manipulative. Genuinely there is so much wrong with her. Like there is so much about her to talk about that I can't even explain in words. Better to assimilate than explain tbh. Like she shows genuine interest in the Murder Drones. She kept their personalities in tact because of N, even knowing that V and J would be liabilities. She even told Tessa as long as she didn't get in her way, Tessa would be unharmed. She could've easily killed the banquet without all the flair but she was angry at the Elliot family for threatening her, N and the rest of the Drones. The singularity is the point where technology reaches when we, humans, can no longer control it. It is indistinguishable from our concept of humanity. I'm not gonna get all philosophical and ponder the legitimacy of the Drones AI, I think the show does that well enough. They have thoughts and feelings, they are alive, plain and simple. This story is not new btw, robots living in the remains of human society and having their own personalities and living as an extent of humanity has been done before. The examples I can think of are Wall-E, Stray and I Have No Mouth... works too (kinda). Basically, Cyn as the antagonist have her own personality that goes beyond the mindless machine route is so fucking cool and I love it. I love has antagonistic she is to everyone, even people she likes. It's not like she doesn't understand empathy, she just doesn't care. "Your copies will forgive me." And again! The is not new, this is not a new character type, I'm sure but it's done well here. She is amazing and I love everything about her. Cyn you are freaking crazy baby girl and I love you.

Murder Drones Fanfic - Make Believe Adventures (repost from my dA Missluckychan22)
Tessa, who was now 11, sat mournfully looking at the foggy day through her window. She was being punished for speaking up at breakfast about how she didn't want to practice ballroom dancing. The girl laid on her bed, staring at the ceiling.
"You can come out of your room at dinner time, young lady!", the words of James Elliott, the girl's strict father, rang through her head.
Serial Designation J, Tessa's very first worker drone friend sat beside her on the bed. The silver ponytailed robot woman reassured, "Look, I know it's bad but, the day will go by,"
The second fixed one, a sweet little butler named N who had curly white hair responded, "Yeah, we could always play Rummy."
"GIN Rummy," J corrected to N, holding back slugging the littler guy in the shoulder for Tessa's sake.
Tessa sighed and hugged her pillow as she looked out her bedroom window. "I want to go on an adventure, I want to sword fight and explore and do something instead of being trapped in this god-awful prison."
J laughed a little at her thought. "No, that's silly,"
"What is it, J?" Tessa inquired, her eyes full of interest in what her favourite girl worker drone was thinking.
J relinquished her thought for the inquisitive Tessa, relaxing her shoulders as she suggested, "Remember that game we used to play when you were 9 right after you fixed me up?" J knew it was silly, however, if Tessa was interested in what her idea could be, then it was all the more worth it now that she told the girl she admired.
"The Princess and the Mage?" the young Elliot family woman exclaimed, trying not to be loud enough for her parents to hear, "I used to love that game!"
N had heard about this game but he never got to play, he eagerly trilled, "Could I play too? I really would wanna join."
"Maybe if we needed a villain…" J teased.
Tessa shook her head and giggled, "Nooo, not a villain, but a prince! A prince captured by a wicked witch!"
Just then, the newest robot Tessa had repaired after her parents destroyed it, a pretty little robot maid with glasses, came in with Tessa's noon tea and biscuits. The bobbed haired drone greeted politely, "Your noon tea, Miss Elliot."
Tessa piped up as she got off the bed and held V's skirt ever so gently to get the robot's attention, "Please, V, could you join me and my friends for a game?"
V looked to N, her LED display showing little white light blush marks before agreeing to play.
Tessa let out a little squeal of delight and stated, "For real life? Thank you, V! I need you to climb ontop of the wardrobe with N, and I want you to pretend to be a witch who kidnapped a prince."
N helped get the chair from Tessa's vanity desk and put it infront of the large wardrobe cabinet. He giggled, "After you, my lady," as he held his hand out to V.
The sweet bespectacled maid took his hand and hopped up onto the chair before laying down on her stomach attop the furniture where N soon joined her. V had read a lot of fairytales in the library with N, and she was familiar with the role of a witch. She took a decorative spoon she kept with her and held it like a makeshift wand. The little maid cackled and called down to Tessa and J, "Helloooo my pretties! I have kidnapped your precious prince! And if you want to save him from me turning him into a dog, you'll save him before sunset tonight!"
N laughed and recounted, "Ooh, good one, V!" before doing his best Shakespearian themed voice and recounting, "Alas, oh Princess Tessa, fairest of them all, dost thou wisheth to save me from becoming a common mutt? I shall wait for thee atop the highest tower in the land." ---------------------------------------
The forest was filled with song birds and sunlight, the two friends, a mage and her princess protege rode on the back of a stunning white horse down the forest path.
"I think you should maybe think of saving another prince, my liege," Lady Jay of Umbridge scorned as she rolled her eyes at the princess with the flowing ebony hair.
The lionhearted Princess Tessa Elliot of Manorwood insisted as they rode out of the forest path and into the emerald glenn, "It wouldn't right of me to let him be turned into a dog, he has a throne to return to, as do we. So let us make haste!" The two women rode towards the edge of the valley, towards a dark forest with cawing crows and rolling fog. The horse began to buck and bray, horrified of the dark woods, causing the two to dismount the creature.
"You won't come with us, will you, girl?" Tessa bargained with the ivory coloured mare.
Lady Jay, sighing in annoyance, waved her hands and summoned forth a bunch of fresh garden carrots, shaking one in front of the horse. "Come on, you wouldn't want the orcs to come and turn tho into glue and a meal, woulds't thou?"
The horse brayed arrogantly at the silver-haired mechanical mage, and began galloping to find another way through the dark woods.
"Guess we are on our own, huh, Jay?" the Princess stated before optimistically calling out, drawing a sword out of the scabbard, "Well then, we must press on, we must make it to the tower through the woods."
The two headed, now on foot into the foggy and dark woods. The eerie forest sounds grew louder as they continued on. The two were stopped as they heard wild cackling.
From a small clearing, with thunderbolts and lightning appearing from the skies above, was the vile and wicked witch simply known as Vendetta. The wild eyed witch shot a lightning bolt straight at Tessa, she leapt clear of the blow. "You may be spritely, dearie, but I am more than a one trick pony!" Vendetta laughed as she commanded a tree to come to life before she flew away on a broom stick while calling out, "Good luck, dearies!"
Princess Tessa brandished her sword, standing infront of the towering, monsterous cyprus.
Jay, waited in the wings, she knew what she would need to do, she just had to do like they practiced.
The Princess, despite being in a dress, effortly dodged the swipes at her by the creature as she swung at it, cleaving off the tendril-like branches with her broadsword.
The tree creature reached down and swiped up the Princess before letting out a roar.
Lady Jay ran full tilt at the tree, holding in her hands a single piece of coal. She ran her thumbs across the carbony rock, causing it to ignite. "See you in Hell, foul beast!" the silver haired mage screamed as she tossed the flaming rock at the Cyprus-Tree creature.
The creature dropped the princess in horror as it went up in flames, letting Tessa fall into the open arms of her lovely mage companion.
The two saw then the end of the storm and charged towards the glistening sunlight. At last, out of the scary forest! Princess Tessa saw as her horse came bounding from the edge of the trees towards her. Lady Jay scoffed with a laugh, "Your horse isn't very brave, Princess."
"That's alright, Jay," the princess reassured as she re-sheathed her sword for now, "But we most certainly are!" The two hopped back upon the steed and ventured closer to the ivory tower, hearing a charming man's voice singing from the room near the spire's top.
"It's the handsome and kind Prince Nathaniel!" Princess Tessa proclaimed as they rode closer to the tower.
The prince noticed the two women approaching on the horse, he called down, "Hello Princess Tessa of Manorwood and Lady Jay of Umbridge!"
Lady Jay mocked from the back of the horse, "If you really were a prince you'd get yourself down there."
Nathaniel sweetly replied, "Maybe if I had 20 years, 35 feet of hair and a pair of scissors."
Vendetta, who was also in the tower couldn't help but giggle at that reference and she bargained down to Princess Tessa, "Okay, tell you what, I won't turn the Prince into a dog, if you let me marry him."
Tessa raised an eyebrow and laughed, "Wait what?"
Lady Jay put her arm around the Princess and responded back rudely, "WELL THATS FINE, SHE DOESN'T NEED A STINKIN PRINCE! BUT I'M STILL GOING UP THERE AND KICKING YOUR ASS, WITCH!" she hopped off the white horse and started climbing with her barehands up the tower, insulting the witch every couple feet.
Tessa hopped off her horse and scolded, "Hang on, Lady Jay! You could fall!"
---------------------------------------
J was climbing up the bookshelf that stood next to the wardrobe.
V giggled as she took a stack of books and started throwing them at J.
Tessa called out, "WAIT!" in fright but it was too late, the sound of the books hitting the floor rang out in the room. She could hear her parents shouting from down the hall and the approaching sound of her father's shoes on the mahogany floors. She called to her robots, "Quick, grab a book and sit near my bed!"
Mr Elliot finally came into Tessa's room, he burst the door open and shouted, "I thought we told you, young-lady to…" he stopped his yelling as he looked on at the sight.
J was softly reading a book to Tessa while they sat on the bed.
N sat at the vanity chair that was now by Tessa's bed, pretending to read silently. V stood in the corner with a handful of books, smiling politely to Mr Elliot.
Tessa's father blinked in confusion before sighing and saying calmly, "Carry on," before walking out and closing the door.
The three robots and their best human friend waited silently until they no longer could hear the foot steps in the hall, and they all had a quiet laugh about it. Tessa pulled in N, V, and J for a group hug, giggling happily, "That was the greatest adventure yet, thank you, all of you."
V giggled, "How about another? We could be pirates?"
N did a silly pirate voice and called out, "Avast! Captain Tessa, let us find treasure across the seven seas!"
J put her arm around Tessa and teased happily, "And I could be your first mate?"
The 11 year-old Tessa nodded happily, and soon she and her robot friends were on another make-believe adventure to make it through the rest of the time until dinner.

re: Sussex divorce etc. I read all the time that all their revenue and expenses are ran through various companies ( 12 incorporated in Delaware and Wyoming, and Archewell). The House was purchased via a trust created for this purpose.
In the event of a divorce, do they split ownership of all these companies 50/ 50 as per california state laws? How does alimony and child support work when everything is in company names and not their personal property?
For tax purposes i see the advantage of putting everything into Foundations, companies and trusts, but it seems complications arise in the event of divorce espevially when those companies are registered out of state. Which state's laws would they satisfy?
Further, i don't think Charles will help with the divorce ie supply lawyers and advise. FOR SURE he isn't on the hook for money because several ex-royals have tried to claim family dynasty wealth and lost which has set a legal precedent - see Tessa of Luxemborg and *Haya of Dubai.
*Haya of Dubai got a large settlement ( roughly £1/2B) which clouds the fact that in reality she got very little. Prior to the divorce, she purchased 2 large properties for herself in UK - one is in London next to KP plus she had a fortune in jewellery collected over the course of the marriage.
Aside from her properties, clothing and jewellery, she asked for over £1B for alimony plus her children's trustfunds, child support AND security.
Judge awarded her the properties, clothing, jewellery, children's trustfunds, child support and security. The alimony demand was slashed to less than £50M. The biggest chunk of her settlement ( almost 3/4 of entire settlement) was for security which the judge said would be at the highest level that money can buy for her and her kids' lifetimes as he agreed that her ex- Dubai hubby presented a clear and present danger for their lifetimes.
On a different note, i still shudder at the hostage video Princess Latifa of Dubai posted to youtube before she disappeared to be reprogrammed. That video probably saved her life and or gave her bargaining chips for better treatment unlike her sister Princess Shamsa who hasn't been seen in public or by rest of her family since her abduction in the early 00s.

I don't have sweet headcanons, BUT I have something funny. Every time I reread TID, I'm reminded of how much I love Will, and how he was an absolute idiot, in clockwork princess, when he was on a mission to save Tessa. I don't know if CC wanted him to be the dashing knight on a horse, galloping from England To North Wales, but my man could have taken the trains and shortened his trip from three days to a maximum of a day and a half. He didn't even think of the logistics of his plan. Let's say the battle did not happen, and he managed to save Tessa before Mortmain got her. Where was he supposed to put her? On Balios with him? FOR THREE DAYS? Let's say he thought of the trains once he saved Tessa, where was he supposed to put Balios? It doesn't make sense.
Anyway, I think I'm going through a Will Herondale withdrawal, I need more stories about him post clockwork princess.
PS: This is how the railway network in 1878 Britain was developed.
Tumblr media
He just had to be Dramatic and Extra in his quest to rescue his one true love. And you know what? I support it.
Would "I got on the British Railway and bumped along in the train car for a day and a half" be as good a story to tell their children as "I ran across national borders on a horse, my hair flowing freely in the wind, to rescue my lady love?" No, it wouldn't. With that in mind, I think Will was planning ahead. Thinkin' long-term, if you feel me. Maybe he even thought that once he found Tessa, she could cling to his back and ride bareback on the horse with him, her skirts flowing behind them like a romantic flag. Good for him. What an imagination!
But yes, logistically speaking, his plan sucked.

The Washerwoman's Daughter
I.
“For your trouble.”
The Queen placed a heavy purse gently into Dyana’s trembling hand.   She was used to carrying heavy things.  Dyana would help fetch the hot water needed for Princess Helaena’s bath and deliver her gowns to Pia for washing.  She’d carry breakfast trays laden with oat bread and burnt bacon to the Princess and her three children. Sometimes, Dyana would one twin while their mother took the other, and together, they bid Queen Alicent goodnight.   But since Prince Maelor was born Prince Jaehaerys decided it was beneath him to be picked up like the baby, so he and his shyer twin now often walked to their grandmother’s chambers, holding hands as they might have done so in the womb.
But never had Dyana held so heavy a purse that was meant for her keeping.   In the right circumstances, she’d be grinning like a little fool.  How could she not? True, she never had to trouble herself for rent and food as they did in Pigrun Alley thanks to her place in the Red Keep, but because of that her wages only went so far.  Still, it was enough coin for visits to Eel Alley with Joy and Liane on a day off.  It was enough coin to save a little, every month.  Joy and Liane lacked such a habit, and this baffled Dyana.  She herself was terrified of one day being forced to quit her position, and of leaving the Red Keep without anything simply because she was careless with her coin.
It was then that an ugly thought seized Dyana.   She had to convince the Queen otherwise, she had to.
“Please, Your Grace.  Please don’t make me leave.”
Queen Alicent furrowed her brow. “You wish to stay?”
“Please, Your Grace.  Please, don’t.” Dyana chokes, as a memory stabs her. Please, don’t-
Dyana cannot bear the thought of ever being in the same room as Prince Aegon, but what choice does she have? She could leave the Red Keep, yes.
Without opening it, Dyana knows she has enough to give her a room at an inn for a few months, but she could just as easily lose it in a single night.  The city crawled with thieves.  Thieves who were men, men who were bigger and stronger than Dyana, who could decide they weren't just satisfied with stealing from her-
She could not suffer that again.  She would rather die.
Even if Dyana didn’t have to fear such things, she had no magic to make it last. And where would that leave her? There was dear Tessa, of course. The older girl was a barmaid at an inn belonging to her family.
Dyana could go to her.  She wouldn’t tell her everything because that would be too much.  The Queen, with her tender eyes and words, did not count.   People like the Queen have always been like the clouds to Dyana, a girl born in a lord’s castle but who was no lord’s daughter.   But Tessa wouldn’t need to hear anything, anyway.  She’d just sweeten her Pa into letting Dyana stay. Of course, she’d work for her keep. She is used to being on her feet all day in a large castle, an inn was nothing to that.    She has never fallen short in her duties.  She is not afraid of hard work.
But she was afraid of leaving.    The Red Keep was her home.  She was a girl of ten when she’d come here with Lord Hayford.  Ma was one of his washerwomen. Ma’s hands were never soft, Dyana remembered and rarely was her voice.   She used it like a slap.  Dyana had been slapped more times than she cared to remember.
Still, she was proud when Lady Hayford’s good word gave Dyana a chance to be something other than a washerwoman’s daughter.  By then, the Hayfords had been living at King Viserys’ court for several years. Dyana was now twelve and still missed Hayford.   She wondered if any of the friends she left behind still remembered her.  She missed them.  Maddy with her jokes, Marei with her stories, and gentle Olly who kissed Dyana and said he wanted to marry her one day.  Olly, who was two years younger than she and lost a little tooth that week.
It was not just that, however. While she also didn’t really want to become her Ma again when she was grown, Dyana still liked listening to the gossip and the jokes that were traded between the women as they washed and mended.   She liked imagining that some of Lady Hayford’s pretty clothes were hers.  She liked the familiarity, of knowing what to expect and what was expected of her.
Ma would have none of it.  “You ain’t got a say, Dy.”
“But Lady Hayford didn’t say I had to become a maid,” Dyana had protested.  "She just said I could be a good one, that’s all.”
Ma frowned.  "Sweetling, you'd be insulting her ladyship if you tried saying no and shaming your poor mother too."
She didn't want that.  "All right," Dyana sighed.
Ma beamed.  "You'll see. It'll be good for you."
Ma was right.  It was good.   Dyana got new dresses.  They weren’t fetching, but they were in red, and Dyana was always fond of red.   She got almost-new shoes as well.  She never had almost-new shoes before.    Of the two girls Dyana shadowed when she began her duties, Joy was friendlier, but Liane had a way of looking at Dyana like she smelled.
“Don’t mind Liane,” Joy assured her.  “She’s just vexed at having to instruct, she ain’t got the patience, I swear.”
Liane had been even more vexed when years later, Princess Helaena had chosen Dyana to be her maid.   However, she forgot herself and along with Joy, congratulated Dyana on getting such an honorable position.  By then, Ma had long disappeared and now must lay in some unmarked grave.  But Dyana knew she would have said the same.
It did make Dyana important, waiting on the princess.  The Hayfords were good and proud people.  But Helaena Targaryen was a princess, and her sons were in line for the throne.  Sometimes Dyana forgot that Princess Helaena had a sister, as Princess Rhaenyra had departed for Dragonstone years ago with her boys.   She liked seeing the orders she gave on behalf of her mistress followed promptly, for Helaena was a king’s daughter.  The only woman above her was Queen Alicent.   And it was Queen Alicent who held her fate.
“No, I do not think it wise to let you stay as a maid.”  For a moment, Dyana cannot breathe, until she is rescued by the Queen’s next words.  “I must relieve you of your duties for my daughter.  But I am told you came from Hayford.  It is a lovely place.  If you wish it, I will see you safely there.”
Hayford.   Oh, Hayford!  But-
"Thank you kindly, Your Grace. But my Ma, she- she-," Dyana broke into fresh sobs.  Queen Alicent was startled until Talya spoke up. "Years ago, Dyana's mother went to the docks.  She was not seen again.  I suspect Dyana finds it hard to return home without her bones."
"Oh."  Even through her tears, Dyana could hear the world of understanding in Her Grace's voice.  "Rosey.  I remember.”   She sighed, then smiled gently.  “Well, I am always in need of a good maid.”
II.
It is not that much different,  waiting on the Queen.   Dyana does miss the children, though.  They were sweet things, if spoiled.  Dyana remembered the betting games she played with Liane and Joy over their sex when Princess Helaena went into her confinement.   Joy liked to bet over anything,  while Liane liked to turn everything into a competition.   Both times when the Princess had gone into labor,  Dyana had chosen wrong.
III.
It is not until her monthly comes that since that day with the Queen,  Dyana sheds tears again.  She hates herself for it,  for being so ungrateful when she should be on her knees thanking the Mother for her mercy.   It is because she is weak.  And tired.   She wants to sleep all the time.  She doesn’t remember when she sleeps.
We’ll all be on our knees soon,  Meri said grimly, who knew nothing about her shame.    Princess Rhaenyra will want her crown, and her son avenged.
Perhaps, the gods will be good and listen,  Dyana thought bitterly.   When Tessa gushed about how splendid it was to see King Aegon fly on his dragon,  even though he was such a ‘fearsome beast’,  Dyana had wanted to snap and say that he was the beast.
Perhaps this is why she goes with Talya.
V.
Lady Mysaria is beautiful.    She is not truly a lady, of course,  but she is truly beautiful, and that is the first thing Dyana notices about her.
“Dyana, welcome.”  She pours some wine for her.
“You know my name?”  She wants to hit herself.  Of course, she does.  Talya would have told her.
“Of course, sweetling.”  Mysaria purred.  “You are important.”
“Important?”  Dyana stammered.  It felt strange, to hear that describe her.
“Perhaps the most important person in this room.  In the city.”
That was treason,  but Mysaria showed no fear in saying it.  “What do you mean-,”
“She means,”  Talya took her by the hand.  “That you can help bring justice for our queen.”
For a minute,  Dyana is confused.  What Queen is she talking about?  The Dowager Queen, or Queen Helaena who now bore her crown? Then the truth dawned on her.  They are talking of Rhaenyra Targaryen.   “The throne belongs to His Grace,”  she says stiffly.   Whatever he is to Dyana, that is the truth of it.
“The throne belongs to Queen Rhaenyra,  and has since the moment their sire breathed his last,”  Mysaria replied.
Dyana ripped her hand away from Talya.  “And you are of the same mind, I take it?”  She shook her head.  “But Queen Alicent-,”  She does not understand why Talya would do this.
Talya looks uncomfortable.  “She was a good queen and a fair mistress.  But even queens can choose wrong.   Mysaria is right.  The throne does not belong to Prince Aegon.”
My maidenhead didn’t belong to him, either.
She locks eyes with Mysaria.  “Tell me what you want.”
VI.
She gives the necessary information to help Mysaria cement her plan.  A plan is to steal both Prince Jaehaerys and Prince Maelor.   They will be valuable hostages, who will stay their father’s hand and perhaps bring an end to the war by forcing him to surrender.
Dyana does not look forward to this end but to the powerlessness he will feel. A king needed heirs, and he would lose both.  I will make him feel like I did.
VII.
She hears the words, but she does not understand them.
Helaena Targaryen does.   She wails and begs for them to slay her instead.
The men with no name simply laughed.  “Aye, but we like to do our work right see,” The shorter of two taunted.  “A son for a son.”
“No!” Dyana blurts out.   She has been frozen until now.  “Please,  no-  This was not the plan, it cannot be, please-.”   She was desperate to try anything,  to move them.  “Please,  they are worth more alive-,”
The bearded one shrugged.  “Only worth dead.  She must choose.”   He clutched Maelor, while his friend clutched Jaehaerys.    The seven-year-old was struggling vainly to break free.
Queen Helaena continued to plead.   Dyana joined her until the bearded one took a deft hand and slapped her,  gagging her as they had done Queen Alicent.   They did not need to gag Talya.  She lay dead on the floor.   Dyana should have known it then,  nobody needed to die-
Dyana did not know how much time passed.  It felt like a thousand years.  Surely someone must come,  surely!
She hears the words rape and daughter,  and suddenly, she knew no more.
VIII.
Dyana guesses that she’d been here for a while now.   She is not alone, though.  Her guilt is with her.   But guilt was too little a word for her sin.  If she were to hold a holy book, would it blacken at her touch? If she saw herself in a looking-glass,  would she see a demon and not a woman of nineteen?
They will tell her nothing.     Nothing about the children.  Nothing about the queens.
Of course, she has been told nothing.   Just as Mysaria told her nothing about her true intentions.  “My queen is no murderer of children.   She will not harm her nephews.”   What would Mysaria say,  if Dyana could confront her?  Would she deny that she lied,  or would she try to defend herself by saying that she had spoken truly-  After all, it was not Rhaenyra who killed her nephews.   Oh gods,  not knowing which one of them they slew,   Dyana could not bear it-
She wept and wanted.    She wept for herself,  for her wicked heart that led her into these vile schemes.  She wept for the children and their mother.   She wept for Queen Alicent, who had been so kind to her.   As Mysaria plotted Dyana made herself forget about that kindness.   She even wept for Aegon Targaryen.
She wept for Joy and Liane and was terrified that harm would come to them because of her folly.   She wept and cried “Mother” as she rocked herself.  But whenever she was calling for the Mother above or her dead Ma she was too lost to know.   She wept for Hayford.
She wanted so badly to go back.   To choose different.   To never go with Talya.   To accept the offer the Queen had given her that day and return to Hayford.  She wanted to know if the old swing was still there, if Maddy and Marei’s Pa the cook still made the finest apple cakes.   She wanted to return and be Olly’s wife.   A wife and mother with no blood on her hands.   She wanted to be just fifteen again, watching a show with Joy and Liane.
She wants, she wants, she wants.
IX.
It is Queen Alicent who sees her,  accompanied by Ser Criston Cole.  The look he gives Dyana does not frighten her so much as his lady’s.
Dyana sees hell on the Queen’s face.   She says nothing,  while Dyana pleads.   For mercy.  For understanding.  For forgiveness.
“Please,  Your Grace.  I never agreed to what they said.  I would never,  you must believe me.   You must.”   Ser Criston scoffed.
“But you knew that there was a plan, of some kind.”     Her Grace’s voice was hollow.
“I did.”  Dyana’s mouth was dry.  “I was told that H-His Grace’s sons were t-to be hostages.”   She began to shake.
Ser Criston sneered.  “Did you not realize whose hands you would be delivering them into?  Damon Targaryen, who once boasted that he remained heir when Prince Baelon died?”
“Dyana would not remember that Ser Criston,”  Queen Alicent said softly.  “It was a long time ago.  Before she was born.  In all her time here,  Prince Damon has never been at court.”
But she would have known his reputation,  her eyes said.
“Prince Maelor Targaryen is now heir to the Iron Throne,”  Queen Alicent says quietly.   Dyana shoves a fist into her mouth.    That means Queen Helaena chose Jaehaerys.  But why?   It was an impossible choice,  but Dyana had thought that as Maelor was so young….
“My daughter did say Maelor,”  The Queen says as if she is reading Dyana’s mind.  “A child of three just beginning to understand his colors would not understand what- what they were demanding.”
Queen Alicent’s face crumpled.  “And instead they killed our Jaehaerys, even though they were the ones to force my daughter to choose!”
Her Grace composes herself.  “You know the penalty you must face.”   Dyana does,  but it does not stop her from feeling cold all over.
X.
Dyana does not want to die,  but she does not deserve to live.    And she wants this to be over.
As she is marched to her end,  she thinks of Joy and Liane.   She would not have been allowed to see them,  even if she wanted to.  What would they think?  Would they condemn her?  Would they mourn her?
At least Dyana had no mother anymore to mourn her.
As she laid her head on the headsman block,  she thought of the thousands other girls like her who would die in this war.   Or maybe the gods would be good, and it would not come to that.
She closed her eyes,  and began to pray.   Please, Gods, have mercy.  Please, Gods, have mercy.
Please, please, please-

Starter - Survival Somehow - Clipped Wing Princess AU
She awoke in the shop in her spare body after her girlfriend and the evil Tessa had come to collect what they needed.
J went up to the reception desk and phoned all the colouring appointment clients that they'd have to reschedule. J sighed, she wasn't going to disappoint all the clients. She knew how to do hairstyles, she knew haircuts as well and how to undo matted hair gently, so she would just have to pick up the slack until she could think of a plan to save her beloved princess from the involuntary servitude.

Before The Dawn Chapter 10: The Lamb
Edelweiss, Edelweiss, Every morning you greet me. . .
The rain kept a steady rhythm against the windows. J still didn't understand why the sky occasionally broke open. "Staring out the window all night isn't going to make it stop." Selune chuckled at the smaller drone, watching from her perch on the back of the old couch that the Elliots kept in Tessa's room. "I don't want it to stop." J never moved her head. "...I just don't get it." Things were still new to her. She'd only been alive for a few weeks now, and she'd barely gotten out of the manor- after all, she never left Tessa's side. "Right." Selune rolled onto her stomach, dangling her head over the side of the couch to look at J. "You're still new to all of this." "All of what?" J tilted her head. Selune shook her head. "It's water. It comes from the clouds." "But why?" J kept her head tilted for a moment, before glancing over her shoulder at Selune. "Because it-" Selune stopped. "It just . . . does." "Small and white, clean and bright . . ."
She never minded whenever one of Tessa's parents took care of her. It gave her a moment to explore, to take in her surroundings, to be curious, to question absolutely everything, and to drive Selune mad with her hundreds of questions, even if she didn't mean to. Tessa yawned in her father's arms, cooing quietly and snuggling into his arms as James re-adjusted the infant in the blanket, continuing to hum his lullaby to her, paying no mind to the two drones on the other side of the room. "And sometimes it-" Lightning lit up the sky, followed by a rumble of thunder that J could have sworn shook the manor down to its foundation. Her servos tensed up as she shifted a bit closer to Selune, who immediately pushed her back. "You'll get used to it." She snickered. Tessa's fearful cries at the sudden noise snapped J from her curiosity, turning to watch as James held her close and kissed her forehead, soothing her with calming words and promises of safety. J returned her attention to the sky outside the window, tilting her head every so often to glance at the flashes of lightning in the clouds off in the distance, only flinching whenever a flash got too close. The thunder shaking her core seemed less terrifying with each strike. Tessa's grumbling and cooing eventually quieted down to soft snores as she finally gave up fighting sleep in her father's arms, allowing him to place her down in her crib and stretch his arms as he lingered for a few moments, making sure that she was comfortable and indeed, asleep (Even as a baby, Tessa had her ways of faking sleep, waiting just until her parents had left her alone before stirring around and talking with the shadows, laying on her back and giggling at whatever it was that she could see. J and Selune found it amusing. James and Louisa however, usually didn't.) As per usual, J was immediately in her spot, perched on the windowsill next to Tessa's crib, laying so that her head rested perfectly on the edge, allowing her to keep watch over Tessa- while still being comfortable. "Sleep well, princess." James turned to leave, stopping to glance over his shoulder, making sure that J was at least nearby, lying faithfully at her human's side like a dog.
The rain continued, lulling J into a sense of calmness. She never really slept, only putting herself on standby, keeping her systems online and alert- while allowing her to close her eyes and save her battery power. . . Okay, maybe she slept a little.
☽✧    ✦    ✧☾
Clatter. J shot up.
"Shush." Her optics adjusted to the pure darkness of the room. Selune stood in front of the opposite window, staring intensely outside, looking like a wild cat trained on its prey. "What are you doing?" J whispered, carefully climbing down from her spot, making sure not to wake Tessa as she moved. "What's going o-" "Shush." It was much more commanding this time, almost a hiss. The only light outside was the moon, just barely illuminating the old pine trees that surrounded the manor. She still couldn't see anything, or at least not anything worth causing a fuss over. "Something's outside." Selune hissed. "What?" J squinted, desperately trying to see what had gotten Selune all worked up. "Stay here." "Wha- why?! You need he-" Selune grabbed J by the shoulders, pointing to the crib across from them. "YOU. Stay here. Protect Tessa. That's your job." J opened her mouth to protest, clenching her fists in frustration as Selune left without another word. Protect Tessa. But Selune- what's even out there? What could be making her act like this???? J battled with her thoughts, turning in circles as she went over her options. Tessa. Selune. Outside? Intruder. Danger. Tessa. Danger. Tessa, Tessa Danger, Selune, Protect, FUCK.
.
.
.
It was too damn dark outside.
Selune's mechanical hackles were raised as she examined the woods around the manor's front entrance, quietly making her way around the brickwork, staying in the shadows as much as she could. Something was there, she knew it was, there had to have been. Sure, there were coyotes and bears and other woodland creatures around, but this was different. Those animals wouldn't have awoken her from a dead sleep, this was big. She'd tried to shake it off, to go back to sleep, but that damn howl - and she could have sworn she'd seen something peeking in from the windows, staring at her and her human companions like they were its next meal. Her shoulders slumped in frustration. "I told you to stay inside." J quietly appeared at her side. "I wasn't going to let you come out here alone." Selune glared down at her. "YOU are supposed to stay with Tessa, that is your ONE job, and you just-"
SNAP
Both drones whipped their heads up, bodies tensing. The woods were silent. No crickets. No frogs. No owls. Absolutely nothing. ". . . What was that?" "Shut up." A shadow moved. "...Selune?" Both drones ducked out of instinct as the shadow lept over them, clattering against the roof tiles and taking a moment to steady itself above them. "....was that a deer?" J's eyes were wide, still holding her hands over her head. "Get inside. Now." Still in shock, J shot Selune a bewildered glare, only to be picked up by the scruff of her neck by the much taller drone. "INSIDE. TESSA. NOW."
Company drones weren't meant for speed. They were meant to wander, to meander, to take their time with tasks, and to take in their surroundings. J was an exception. She could tell that certain parts of her body had been reused, the metal joints in her legs aching as she practically threw herself up the stairs, digging her sharpened fingertips into the carpet for traction. So many internal alarms were going off, yelling at her to cool her core, to sort out her processor and the hundreds of thoughts it was trying to situate, but one goal sat in the front of her mind: Get to Tessa. Get to Tessa. NOW.
The glass of the windows hadn't even been shattered, it was like the intruder had simply phased in. A tall figure now stood over Tessa's crib, cradling the little human in its long, slender arms. J couldn't make out details in the dark, freezing up in fear as she came to a screeching halt in the doorframe. A veil covered the lower half of the figure's face, leaving only two bright gold eyes visible, and a mess of white and blonde hair flowing over it's shoulders and draping over the tail of their dress on the floor. "Such a small, innocent little thing." The intruder's voice was soothing, seductive, almost. It felt like one of those sirens from the stories James was always reading to Tessa. "So defenseless." A claw raised to brush against Tessa's face. "Left all alone." It took J a moment to realize that she was trembling.  "J, what are you-" Selune froze beside her, eyes landing on the unwelcome guest in front of them, cradling the most precious thing in the Elliot Manor. "Tessa!" "Tessa. That's its name." The creature purred, and J saw a glint of a sharp tooth from underneath the intruder's veil. "Such a strong soul. A pity, it was wasted on this tiny creature." J wanted to lunge. She wanted to snatch her human from the creature's claws and help Selune tear into them, but she couldn't. She knew any move she made while the infant was being held by this..thing, would surely result in both the demise of her and the human she was created to protect. "And you two." The creature turned towards J and Selune, as both drones silently showed their teeth. "They expected you playthings to stop me?" A claw raised from the shadows, taking Tessa from the creature's arms. More shadows moved, J could make out three, maybe four, moving around the two on the other side of the room like snakes. "A pitiful little science project," Her gaze drifted to Selune " and a wannabe mother." Selune's growl became more prominent.
"Hm." The claw moved Tessa closer to the intruder. "No matter. She was mine from the start. As absolutely amusing as it would be to drag this out even more, I have..more important things." J finally shifted, staggering into Seluna's side as the now-attacker removed the veil from their lower face, revealing a split maw of jagged, white teeth. Both drones finally lunged. It was now or never. Now, they wouldn't have a human to protect. J's teeth met the cold, flesh-like substance of the claw that had been cradling Tessa, biting down with everything she had and struggling to pry away the now-frightened child, falling onto her back, Tessa held close to her chest, as the attacker's focus moved to Selune, who had managed to wrestle the attacker to the ground. With teeth meeting teeth in front of them, J skittered backward, hiding Tessa behind her now overturned crib, attempting to soothe her, putting herself over the little human in an attempt to shield her from anything else that may have tried to hit them.
A cry of pain filled the air, and then it went silent. As swiftly as it had started, it was over. "James where is she?! I don't see her!" Louisa. J finally moved herself, and everything hit at once. The attacker had managed to take a chunk out of her shoulder from the initial attack, her legs ached, something felt out of place in her jaw, and she could swear she tasted oil in her mouth, and it wasn't hers. With the lights now on, she could see everything. Selune was wounded and curled up in the middle of the floor, oil surrounding her, a portion of her hair missing, and her face completely scratched up. "James, her face." The sword he was holding fell to the floor. They weren't talking about Selune. Upon forcing herself upwards and staggering over to the two humans, both of whom were now worriedly checking over their daughter, her artificial heart stopped for a few seconds as she finally got a good look at Tessa in the light. Somewhere during the scuffle, she'd been scratched. There, on the left side of her face, starting just below her ear and ending underneath her chin, was an oddly golden-colored scar.
Her legs buckled. Failure.
"J." Failure.
"J, come on." You let her get hurt.
"J, wake up." The world faded.
"J!"
Sunlight hit her face, followed by warmth. A hand was on her shoulder. "Are you okay?" Tessa. J raised her head, feeling her servos snap into place as she stretched herself out. Right. Zara, Tessa, V, and N. They were up on the rooftop balcony. Tessa wanted fresh air while she and Zara studied. V and N followed. "You were dreaming again." Tessa glanced down. "...And drooling on me." "Sorry." J sheepishly looked down. Was it a dream, or a memory? It was getting hard to tell them apart anymore. It all felt so..familiar. "You were mumbling in your sleep too." Zara chimed in, smiling at J, absentmindedly playing with N's hair as he slept beside her, V nestled against his back. Both had been sunbathing. "She kept trying to grab my arm!" Tessa ruffled J's hair. "Was it another nightmare?" J shook her head. A lie. But she didn't need Tessa to go back to worrying again."
"Maybe it's just the sunlight getting to me." J re-adjusted herself to lay against Tessa's side, curiously glancing down at Tessa's textbook as she reached over to hold Zara's hand. Ah, human puppy love. She was starting to get used to it. Little kisses between the humans here and there, constantly holding hands, watching them snuggle at night. It was...cute. She'd have to try the hand-holding thing with Sive sometime. At least they hadn't locked her and the other drones out of the bedroom. It was nice. . . J's eyes fluttered back open as Tessa's textbook closed, and she glanced around, scratching her head with her free hand. ".... Has anyone seen Cyn?"

It's a little early for the North American crowd, but I'm posting this. An excerpt of Chapter 2 of Walk Through Hell With You, the latest entry in my Harbor Station Stories series that deep dives into River McAllister, @nine-one-wanton's favourite.
He couldn't help but follow her with his eyes when she stepped out of the helicopter. Watching Olivia walk into the station, River couldn’t help but focus in on the last name across her back. Chambers. It was identical to the one etched in his memory of the man who saved his life as a child. He'd seen the man once at the Summer Open House event after the fire, but it felt like some crazy full circle thing, finding out that Olivia was the daughter of the man who saved him. Maybe working with her and looking out for her, was his way of giving back, working off a debt he could never repay. "Nothing like wildfire season to brush up on my rappelling skills," Olivia commented after hanging up her turnouts with the rest of the team. "Only you would say that," Tommy pointed out, "And only you would be this stoked after three days of being in the middle of a wildfire." "It's like Bolton used to say, she's Harbor's Favorite Princess," Tanner quipped as he and Tessa waked off to work out. Olivia rolled her eyes at the playful title from the older veterans of the station, specifically Air Ops. She knew that they were being playful and always looked out for her like a little sister but it fueled her to stand on her own. "It was amazing to see you see rappel down into the fire like that," River complimented her as they walked towards the lounge, admiration in his tone and his eyes. Olivia simply blushed at his compliment and eventually they just both crashed on the couch.

Making it Believable
(Prince Emerick Rhys x Juliet Nevrakis-Walker) in a Choices The Royal Romance *While We're Young AU* drabble
Thirty Kisses in Thirty Days Challenge with the prompt: kissing to pretend that you are in a relationship together.
A/N It's been a long time since I've written for this pair. I've had a lot of anonymous requests for more for these two which I've tried to keep up with occasional drabbles. When I saw this kiss prompt, I knew it was made for them and their fake dating relationship happening in the few drabbles since the series went on hiatus (which we will get back to soon). I'd also promised @lodberg another glimpse into their evolving relationship. Here they are doing something I know you've been anxious for. 😉

"This is a disaster!"
Juliet stormed into the crown prince's chambers and slammed down a stack of magazines on his desk.
"Lady Juliet," Emerick quipped while leaning back in his desk chair, "always a pleasure to see you."
She glared at him. "I don't have time for your ridiculous charm." She pointed at the magazines. "Just look at what they're writing about us!"
He did as commanded, scanning each cover that had a picture of them together. Many of the headlines questioned whether or not their relationship was going to lead to marriage.
Then there were those that were comparing what they were like in previous relationships to the one they supposedly were in.
"I knew it was too good to be true." Juliet flopped across his couch. "After all our hard work to keep you free from marriage proposals and me from annoying noblemen, the people finally realize we aren't really together."
Emerick stroked his jaw while flipping through some of the articles. He studied the pictures of the two of them together that were lined up with them and their exes.
He grimaced somewhat at all the images of himself kissing various women. Juliet's past wasn't much better, but at least she maintained a relationship longer than he did.
"Say something!" She demanded when he remained in silent study.
"We have two options." Emerick declared.
She sat up on her elbows and cocked an eyebrow in question.
"One, we simply ignore this and let the people believe the actual truth about us being only friends."
"Or?" She prodded when he hesitated.
"Or we make it believable the next time we are caught by the press."
"And by believable you mean...?"
"We kiss, Jules." He stated in an even, nonchalant tone.
Juliet sputtered. "Excuse me?"
"Come now." He got to his feet. "We're both adults who have had experience. It isn't like we're teenagers who've never had a kiss in their lives."
Juliet simply stared at him with her jaw dropped.
"What?" He asked.
"I can't believe you're serious!" She shouted. "Emerick, you're...well...you're you!"
He rolled his eyes. "And?"
"And you're talking about kissing me. ME!" She shook her head. "This fake dating was supposed to save us headaches not cause more of them."
"What's worse?" He stopped her from turning away from him. "Kissing me, a man you've known since infancy, one you trust, a friend;" he stressed, "or being mauled by one of the many noblemen who want a connection with Lythikos?"
"Geez, must you put it like that?" She folded her arms.
"It's the same for me." He reminded her. "It's either kissing you for one picture or being hounded by women hoping to become a princess."
Juliet mulled it over.
Emerick knew he'd won when her head dropped back.
"Fine! I'll kiss you."
"You don't have to make it sound like a chore." He teased, winking at her. "I know some ladies who can vouch for my kisses being a rather pleasant experience."
Her eyes narrowed.
"I don't care if you have a thousand ladies vouch for your kisses." She huffed in irritation. "It's still weird."
"Why?"
"Because we've known each other forever." She snapped. "You're best friends with my brother!"
"So? You're best friends with mine." He countered. "And that whole knowing each other forever bit doesn't really matter."
"Why doesn't it?"
"Look at Nicky and Jackson." He pointed out with a cheeky grin. "They grew up together and clearly have no problem kissing each other.
Juliet closed her eyes and counted to twenty to try and control her temper.
"My brother and Nicky are in love. We are not."
Emerick shrugged as if that was neither here nor there.
Juliet's fists clenched. She might not feel like kissing him but she certainly felt like punching him in his stupid, ridiculously handsome face.
"Look," he tried to reason, "we've had some fun on our," he made quotation marks with his fingers, "dates, haven't we?"
She reluctantly nodded. As much as she wished she could deny it, Juliet really did enjoy her dates with the prince.
"This one kiss isn't going to change anything between us, Jules." He promised. "We do it, make certain the press takes all the necessary pictures, and we can then resume our normal time together fooling the masses."
Juliet ran a hand through her red hair.
"You're right." She mumbled.
"What was that?" He leaned his ear towards her. "I didn't quite catch that."
"I said you're right!" She snapped.
Emerick placed his hand over his heart.
"My lady, I am overcome." He dropped to one knee before her and pressed her hand to his lips. "To hear such a sweet declaration from you, it is all I have ever hoped for."
Despite wanting to remain irritated with him, Juliet began to laugh at his overly dramatic teasing.
Emerick beamed at her for being such a good sport throughout these months of subterfuge.
"So when are we doing this?" She asked.
"Whenever you wish." He sat back down behind his desk to check his schedule. "We have a ball at Ramsford in two weeks. There's the dinner with the Chamber of Commerce next Friday. Then--"
"I think we should get it over with as soon as possible." She decided.
Emerick looked up at her in surprise. Was the notion of kissing him that disgusting to her?
Juliet's cheeks heated with a touch of color. "If we put it off, I'm going to be more nervous about it."
Emerick didn't think he could be any more shocked than he was hearing her say something like that. Juliet was a young woman who never got nervous. She had enough of the Nevrakis confidence in her mixed with the Walker's not caring what anyone else thought persona that was simply Jules.
She was typically unflappable in any situation. Her quick, dry wit intermingled with her fiery temper to keep others from daring to say anything cutting to her. She was respected and feared amongst many members of the Royal Court.
He'd come to depend on that these last few months. Though she could drive him crazy at times, he appreciated those personality quirks of hers along with her logical, no nonsense way of thinking. She had surprisingly become a person whose advice he readily sought.
He saw the type of noble she was becoming. Her loyalty and steadfast nature came from both her parents and he couldn't be more grateful to have it for himself.
Of all his friends though, he was surprised how much he had come to enjoy every moment with her. Even their arguments left him feeling energized. There was something about her that he...
Emerick stopped that train of thought.
He did wonder why a simple kiss had the power to make her nervous.
Juliet hated admitting to such a weakness in front of him. She knew it sounded ridiculous. Goodness knows, she'd never been one to try and tame her passionate nature. Emerick had even been one of her friends who'd caught her in more than one embrace with different men over the years.
But the thought of kissing him...
She didn't know what to think about the feelings that particular notion stirred within her. No man frustrated her nor made her laugh quite like Emerick did. He never stepped back from going toe to toe with her, nor was he cowed like many of the other nobles when she was angry.
He was infuriating with how charming he could be. His flirtatious nature had been with him since birth. It was effortless on his part and she realized through her time spent one on one with him that it was typically used to put one at ease.
Though many assumed he was carefree, she'd come to see the more serious side to his personality. She knew how much he valued his family and their close knit group of friends, but she was also catching glimpses into the type of king he would one day become.
She admired him and was usually proud of the decisions and arguments he made in terms of their country. She would have no problem respecting him as her king once Uncle Liam stepped down from the throne.
She did worry though over the thought of some woman coming along and trapping Emerick in a marriage. Like his father, the prince possessed a tender heart. He'd never stepped back when someone was in need. Once he cared about someone or an issue, he threw himself into it with everything he had.
He needed to be protected. She now understood why her father had remained by Liam's side until he met Riley. She realized that it was up to her to be that for Emerick. She knew her brother, Jackson, felt the same way about the prince but he was a little caught up with Lady Nicky Beaumont to give all his free time to this endeavor.
Which might explain why she didn't put up much of a fight when Emerick suggested they do this fake dating for the social season.
At least that's what it was in the beginning...
Juliet put a stop to her wayward thoughts. She was not going to join the ranks of hundreds of women enamored with the crown prince.
But this kiss...what if she...if he...
She got to her feet.
"Let's go out tonight or tomorrow."
Emerick slowly nodded. "If that's what you wish."
"It is." She lowered her eyes. "Something casual. I don't think we need to kiss at some court event."
Emerick's brow furrowed as he observed her.
She really is nervous.
"How about tomorrow afternoon?" He offered.
"Sounds good." She stumbled to his door. "I'll see you for lunch then."
Before he could say another word, she hurried out of his room.
**************
The spring day had turned chilly and damp. Emerick and Juliet thought that was the perfect setting to make the kiss more believable. It wouldn't look staged now, especially since they weren't supposed to be posing for the press at an event.
The two walked through the capital, hand in hand, as they made their way to an outdoor cafe they were known to frequent. Other than the palace guards following at a respectable distance, the two basically had the sidewalk to themselves.
Emerick decided during a night of tossing and turning in bed, that it would be best to catch Juliet off guard with the kiss. He worried that if he forewarned her about when it would happen, she would be even more nervous and the kiss wouldn't appear authentic.
She was already clutching his hand and arm. He didn't know if the occasional trembles he felt were from the cold breeze or from her nerves.
Once the two were seated at a patio table and had their orders placed, he reached over and took her hand once more.
He could hear the clicks of cameras from some not so well hidden paparazzi.
Juliet smiled at him, squeezing his hand.
He held her gaze as he lifted their clasped hands to his lips.
Emerick could feel her tense at the touch she'd felt many times throughout the years.
"Jules." He said softly.
She lowered her eyes to his mouth.
He leaned forward and slipped his hand into her hair, tugging her forward as he pressed a tender kiss to her lips.
He was doing fine maintaining what was going to be a simple kiss until she reached up and cupped his cheek.
Her lips parted under his allowing him to deepen the kiss. He could taste the beginning of her fiery nature as her tongue caressed his.
Her husky moan took him by surprise as she pulled him closer to her.
They barely pulled apart to catch their breaths, before he dipped back down, sucking her bottom lip.
Her breath hitched, a flash of her green eyes met his blue before she wrapped her arms around his shoulders. Her mouth slanted over his, drawing him back into another passionate kiss.
Emerick nearly yanked her into his lap. If not for their waiter, clearing his throat, their kiss would most likely still be going. And where it would have led, startled them both.
"Emerick?" She whispered. "Stop staring at me like that."
Juliet knew she was looking at him just like he was her, as if seeing each other for the first time.
He lowered his eyes and quickly picked up his glass of water. He hoped as he gulped it down that it would cool the desire he felt for her in that kiss.
Emerick made the mistake of glancing at her again. He saw the slight redness around her mouth where his stubble had rubbed against her porcelain skin. The sight brought on another flash of heat over his body.
Juliet's eyes drifted back to his mouth as she sipped her own ice water. She was tempted to put the glass to her cheeks as she thought of how it felt being kissed by him. It made her want to do it again.
No wonder he said he had numerous ladies who could vouch for his kisses, she thought to herself.
"Well," Emerick tried to joke to break the tension, "I think we managed to make our relationship believable."
Her lips curved a touch proudly.
"Yeah, I think we did."
Their eyes met while smiles formed on their faces.
"Was it as dreadful as you thought it would be?" He whispered.
Emerick expected her to tease him about being a bad kisser.
Juliet instead lowered her eyes to his mouth once more.
"On the contrary," she lifted her water glass as if she was about to offer a toast, "I didn't find it dreadful at all."
Emerick tapped his glass against hers.
With a wink, he said.
"Neither did I."

Love a BatB romance! What are some of your favs?
Weeeeellll
Wicked Abyss by Kresley Cole actually isn't my favorite Immortals After Dark book, but it is honestly a really solid BatB retelling. The hero is like... the King of Hell... and he's super gorgeous, but he has a curse that has been turning him into this hideous monster. The heroine is his long-lost fated mate (a literal fairy princess), except she betrayed him in the past and was reincarnated. So he gets her back and traps her in his hell plane. She WILL join him for dinner!!! Or she can go ahead and STAAAAAAAARVE
Also the entire hell plane is connected to his feelings so when he comes the earth shakes. Which is funny when he's with her but arguably funnier when he masturbates and everyone is like "oh shit the castle is shaking our lord and master must be jerking it"
A lot of IAD books have strong BatB vibes but that's probably the most obvious.
The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare is a pretty clear BatB retelling with some Eros/Psyche vibes in that the hero initially only wants to fuck at night when she can't see him in order to accommodate his insecurity about his face. But he's scarred and she gets with him as part of a deal, as the title implies.
Firelight by Kristen Callihan kicks off one of my favorite series, Darkest London, and it for sure evokes BatB. The heroine is a secret witch, and her father is in debt to this mysterious rich man. So she (known for her stunning beauty) agrees to marry the rich man, who wears A PORCELAIN MASK ALL THE TIME LMAO. Lots of supernatural shit ensues, but it's set in the Victorian era. I LOOOOOOOVE this series, and it always pairs kinda monstrous (physically--they're usually lovely deep down) heroes with these kickass heroines.
The Bastard by S.M. LaViolette is another great historical where this very scarred, gruff hero gets the delicate and lovely heroine to marry him as a part of a deal (to save her family, much like Beauty). He was, as I just mentioned in my last rec post lol, very scarred by horrible people, so he has a Glasgow grin. And he's giant. Naturally. BUT HE WANTS TO BE GENTLE WITH HER IIIIII WEEEEP.

😊! Why did Emma say that the Carstairs are indebted to the Herondales?
Hi! 🌻
I'm so sorry for taking so long, I forgot to answer! I've been busy with the holidays and everything 🫣
Well in CoHF Emma just said that she heard her father tell her mom that "the Carstairs owe the Herondales", but she didn't really know why. So I had to do a little research because I myself don't know either 😂
I thought that question was already answered on the books and I just didn't remembered but apparently Cassie said that it's going to be answered on TLH:
The Carstairs owe the Herondales (and the Herondales owe the Carstairs) because of the events of The Infernal Devices, and also the Last Hours – so you’re more likely to learn about why the Herondales and Carstairs owe each other from way back (beyond the manner in which they clearly already do in TID, as Will and Jem saved each other’s lives) in TLH than in TDA.
And so far we still don't know so it's likely we'll get the answer on the last book. But I'm being honest I don't think there's just one right answer but a bunch of events (like Cassie said, the events of TID and TLH)
There's a few theories out there that seem likely to me, so I'm gonna let them here:
Honestly I've been trying to get a solid reason for this myself for a while. But it doesnt seem to be specified exactly anywhere. I think its just general parabatai stuff: that Jem feels he owes his life to Will since Will helped give his short life some meaning as well as taking care of Tessa after Jem became a silent brother. Or that it may more specifically reference when Will left Jems death bed to save Tessa. But if it is just the general thing (and not that specific thing), while Will owes Jem as well, Will hasnt been alive 150 years to keep enforcing it to younger generations (like how Emma knows it). They may be even to us but people always feel they owe someone special to them, no matter how much they may have done in return. From here
The reason (what I think is) during the ending of the clockwork princess Will refuses the sword Cortana and tells Jem's uncle to give the sword to his own children. Thus the 'Carstairs owe the Herondales'. From here (I like this one a lot)
Actually, I think this is not because of Will and Jem. If you remember, John Carstairs says it to Emma, and it doesn’t make sense that 100 and some more years ahead, the reason is two parabatais that loved each other so much (all are supposed to). I think the real reason will be revealed in TLH: as we already know Jamie doesn’t marry Cordelia because he loves her, but because that wedding would somehow save the Carstairs. If you have read the first chapter of TLH (spoiler ahead) you know that Elias was accused of causing the deaths of a group of shadowhunters, so I think that “Carstairs owe Herondales” means that probably Jamie washed some kind of shame away from their name marrying Cordelia. That could be a more understandable reason I think... From here
I think it is because Will put his hand in fire for Jem. From here
This one is a THEORY: Now what this sounds like to me is that Sona dies having the upcoming Carstairs baby and Cordelia and James fricking adopt the child. Either I’m sleepy rn, or it seems pretty clear she’s implying that Jem made the tree and specifically hid the Carstairs records because of these reasons. (Heck, Sona isn’t even listed on the Tree- why replace her with a Colette Verlac?) At the end of The Dark Artifices, Jem and Tessa adopt Kit. Perhaps this is (besides them loving Kit with their whole hearts) the Carstairs’ way of thanking James and Cordelia for raising the mystery Carstairs baby that Sona is having as their own: by raising a parentless Herondale child out of love, in the same way that Jordelia perhaps eventually do for the Carstairs baby. A Carstairs child raised as a Herondale with love. And a Herondale child raised by the Carstairs with love. Tit for tat, the debt is paid in full. From here
I want to hear more theories, what you all think? 👀
