I had to fly into Chicago for a Saves the Day 20th Anniversary show for Stay What You Are. No regrets whatsoever! They played the album in it's entirety and then went straight into the greatest hits set. So much goodness!

First of all, Chris looked good and seemed less spacey since the last time I saw them (on tour for 9). So I was geeked up that this would be a fantastic show and I was not wrong. This crowd was way into it and Chris definitely felt the energy and commented on our amazingness.

SWYA really was groundbreaking in the pop punk world and it stands the test of time. I mean At Your Funeral? The one two punch of Jukebox Breakdown and Freakish? And it always surprises me how Nightingale is such a gut punch.

The rest of the set was full of goodness. Sell My Clothes? Shoulder to the Wheel? Holly Hox? Ending with My Sweet Fracture? So much singing. So much dancing. So much love.

Saves the Day - In Reverie, 2003 Pressing: 2021 repressing, Parting Gift Records. Morning In The Moonlight: Light Blue w/ Aqua & Magenta Splatter "Uh what the hell is this"? Probably my first words upon hearing this record when it came out. Saves the Day have always been a band in a constant state of flux, and sound quite different album to album, but this one wasn't doing it for me. I don't think I listened to more than a track or two after that for years. When I took a chance and revisited it, probably around 2016 it was like hearing it again for the first time. I was looking for a pop punk record then, and this is not it, but it's great. Saves the Day - Ups & Downs: Early Recordings and B-Sides⁠ ⁠ @savestheday #savestheday ⁠ ⁠ Hey Chris, if you actually see this, hit my DMs because I want to interview you. :) If you knew me between 2001-2004, you probably remember me as being really skinny, constantly smoking menthols, and also totally obsessed with the earliest Saves the Day albums. I'll be happy to admit that I was downloading tons of mp3s at the time and that is how I discovered Saves the Day. What I didn't realize was that a ton of the tracks I loved most were oddball b-sides and demos and things that weren't always easy to find. Imagine my teenage delight when I saw this album full of many of them and not to mention pressed on vinyl. The first time I played this I actually got so moody and weird that I thought about giving it to a friend instead of keeping it. Fortunately I didn't do that, and I'm listening to it again today and thinking fondly about my blunder years and remembering just how much I loved songs like Sell My Old Clothes, I Think I'll Quit, and Cheers.
