i think you all know my stance on tracing

so seeing one of my fave ever artists whose sense of anatomy I’ve always admired post a wip that’s not only being traced but being traced over like a physical 3d model/puppet so the anatomy is kinda correct but the.. meat isn’t really there and so it’s wonky and apparently they don’t actually have any good sense of anatomy and turns out that all of their previous pieces are very likely traced too is… discouraging?? heartbreaking?? I really don’t like to get up in ppls business and tend to stop myself whenever thoughts like that start to form in my head but this one.. i mean I’ve looked up to them for the longest time?? and now this?? and seeing ppl not say shit abt it bc they’re really big?? I mean 70k on main on twt type big?? I mean at least acknowledge that you’ve been tracing this whole time bc clearly some ppl are more okay with that than others so it isn’t that big of a deal….

#also wanted to say that I do know some ppl trace and photobash and I absolutely see and understand the reasoning behind it #esp in concept art and commercial stuff where it’s all about pushing out multiple pieces a week probably #but I’ve always imagined you kinda have to prove urself and ur skills for that to be ok to do in my eyes??#idk if I’m being puritanical abt art but #maybe it’s bc I’m all abt being transparent and not gatekeeping techniques or skills or whatever #I absolutely hate the fact that a lot of bigger artists tend to make it some secret knowledge #how they make stuff #as if anyone would be able to recreate what they do which just .. isn’t the case #so in conclusion if you trace and want to post it just.. say that it’s traced #that simple #saves ppl some of those unrealistic expectations towards their own art and abilities #(im ppl)
