I can't stand him. He's such a fake POS. But she's pathetic as well. That whole article is basically her rejecting all criticism of her book because it's obviously misogyny. Her article is the same bullshit excuse Olivia gave for any criticism of her work or her behavior. Misogyny.

I will give her credit for being frustrated that the movie seems to have removed any substance her book may have had and has turned into a feel-good rom-com, complete with a happy ending. That must be annoying as fuck.

However, she has the nerve to say that people who label her work as "romance" or "fanfiction" are being reductive because her book is so much more. It's a story "about ageism, sexism, the double standard, motherhood, female friendship, agency, and the dark side of celebrity".

She goes on to say that "Labeling it as “fluff” or “fanfiction”—particularly when done by those who have not read it—is both reductive and dismissive. And this is not something that happens to male authors." Meanwhile, most fic is written by women. And I'd hazard a guess that most romance is as well. So, it's okay to dismiss those forms of art created by women as "fluff", but not her very serious deep novel? 🙄 I wonder if she's seriously delved into fic before criticizing it as a reductive form of art. I highly doubt it.

And this is my favorite part:

"But assuming a novel with a fictional celebrity in a relationship must be based on an existing celebrity—in this case, the internet has decided, Harry Styles—is unimaginative at best and sexist at worst."

AS IF SHE DIDN'T TELL THE WHOLE WORLD that her character was inspired by him when the book came out. AS IF she didn't use that as a way to excite her readers. AS IF THE ACTOR IN THE FILM DOESN'T FULLY COPY Harry's mannerisms and wardrobe choices at times. AS IF Anne Hathaway didn't steal a line out of Olivia's playbook and focus her early promo on this film's sex scenes being about "a woman's pleasure". AS IF there aren't numerous moments in the film that echo tabloid moments in Harry's life.

Everyone is backtracking now because his fans pitched a fit. It's all so idiotic. And I can't wait for this movie to go away.

In the 2019 Fine Line Rolling Stone interview While talking about Lights Up he said:

“‘Happily’ was the first time I saw my name in the credits. I liked that,” he says. “But I knew I’d only sing part of it. I knew if I wrote a really personal song, I wouldn’t sing it. It was like a safety net."

He also listed it as one of the 1D songs he loved to Rolling Stone after going solo:

He didn’t feel stifled in One D, he says, as much as interrupted. “We were touring all the time,” he recalls. “I wrote more as we went, especially on the last two albums.” There are songs from that period he loves, he says, like “Olivia” and “Stockholm Syndrome,” along with the earlier song “Happily.” “But I think it was tough to really delve in and find out who you are as a writer when you’re just kind of dipping your toe each time. We didn’t get the six months to see what kind of shit you can work with. To have time to live with a song, see what you love as a fan, chip at it, hone it and go for that  … it’s heaven.”

This is a side quest, the TLDNR of this part is I think Happily was started for Up All Night in mid-2012 and finished in 2013, feel free to scroll to the next section

Happily was written by Harry with Carl Falk and Savan Kotecha. Savan had a falling out with the band over the boys desire to write more on their records. His comments on the band are unpopular. He has remained close with Harry, continuing to praise him in interviews and he was at Harry's solo debut at the Troubadour in 2017.

It's not exactly clear when he left the band, often reported '2013', because Midnight Memories is made in Summer 2013. To Billboard (promoting 1D) in 12 December 2012, where Savan describes an 'Take me Home' style 1D rather than the Midnight Memories era:

“We wanted to make it very vanilla. You’re aiming for teens and tweens with boy-band guilty pleasure music. We weren’t trying to be urban or rhythmic"

9 weeks later on 6 February 2013 to Hollywood Reporter Savan was promoting himself rather than the band and no longer seemed to be working with 1D, referencing the tension he left over:

Sometimes they come in with an idea of who they are and who they want to be as artist, or if they want to be a songwriter but they really can’t write songs, or that kind of thing. 

In 2017 he described 'a funk' of a year after leaving the band:

whole letting the One Direction thing kind of go was a year of kind of trying to find myself again and sad cause it was super intense few years and and I lost a lot of confidence during that time and I think it was max help me get out of the funk but then yeah then Arianna sort of walked into my life.

His first Ariana project was a Christmas song in 2013, so long after. In Summary, Savan parted from the band very soon after Up All Night.

Back to Happily.

Savan said it was made for Midnight Memories, so after Take Me Home was completed in August 2012. (Maybe even sooner and considered too mature and not finished for Take me Home?)

With Harry was really interesting was Harry always from such a album - you really saw that he's a f***ing good writer yeah we did a song together for the third album the only thing we did for the third album and he was just this song Happily which I'm really proud of I think he is well that he was it wasn't like that thing where you're like writing down for the artist he was f***ing great.

All this to say, I think the hand she is holding is Conor Kennedy's rather than Tom O'Dell's.

Live Performances

Happily was song 7 for the first 8 shows on the OTRA tour. Harry looked upset in these performances, in the second last in Perth, you see Liam ask Harry "are you OK?" (at 1:01) on 20 February 2015. It was last played 24 February 2015 in Osaka, the day Taylor met Calvin Harris. It hasn't been on any of their solo sets. It was replaced by Stockholm Syndrome on 25 February.

What I love about this song is it has all the elements of their relationship in quite simple terms. In NYD, You are in Love and DBATC she sung about them being a book that was left unfinished, I think this open is a similar idea of ended too soon.

Taylor was photographed holding Conor Kennedy's hand and reported on the 18 August 2012, he was only seen with Taylor the next day and not again. Harry got his Never Gonna Dance Tattoo on the 22 August 2012, the song is about the cost of being unfaithful.

Hi anon. I will put my answer below because is too long and I'm unable to explain it short.

The idea of you is a book that now is having a screen adaptation on prime, here is the trailer. Acording to the author Robinne Lee she was inspired by a guy in a boyband, here is her quote:

A few years ago, my husband was away on business and I was up late surfing music videos on YouTube when I came across the face of a boy I’d never seen in a band I’d never paid attention to, and it was so aesthetically perfect it took me by surprise. It was like…art. I spent a good hour or so Googling and trying to figure out who this kid was and in doing so I discovered that he often dated older women, and so the seed was planted. When my husband returned a couple of days later, I joked with him that I’d found the perfect guy and I was leaving him and our two kids, “oh, and by the way, he’s half my age.”

So basically initially she was inspired by Harry Styles, here are some tweets of her talking about the character. Then in other interview mentions that is a combination of different guys:

I made him into my dream guy,” she told me, “like Prince Harry, meets Harry [Styles],” plus a couple of ex-boyfriends, a little of her husband, and a dash of Eddie Redmayne.

I think the movie is being controversial because first is inspired by Harry dating older women since he was younger, according to the author the character is 20, but the womaniser image that Harry had and that likes and dates older women and this image started when he was 17, a minor.

This idea of Harry liking older women, just reduce him as an artist just to that image that has been know for the general public is just frustrating. And also in the articles and social media talking about the movie they had been making the comparison between photos of Nicholas and Harry.

Nicholas said this quote about if the character is inspired by Harry Styles:

“We tried to create a character that felt, you know, a kin to Harry in a sense that he’s a younger man dating older women. It was important to create someone who felt new and original and not a shoddy impersonation of this person.”

Anything that mentions Harry Styles will always bring attention and clicks so the promo of the movie know what they are doing, and this is nothing against Nicholas, the book is just inspired by Harry and the movie is promoted with that idea.

Now the second problem is that the songwriter and producer of the album of the movie of this fictional boyband is Savan Kotecha. If you are not aware he is a producer and songwriter and was involved with One Direction since The X Factor and work for the first two albums of the band. Savan is a person not liked in the fandom, because he basically never wanted the boys to be part of the songwriting, he saw the band as this machine, never saw the boys as artists and said awful things about Louis. He is one of the persons responsable that Louis didn't get that much solos, read this transcript for more info.

Savan also in that interview explains that couldn't see the boys as this grown young adults that wanted to write songs, because he knew them since they started and didn't think they would have the ability to do so (he was wrong as we know). So Savan left after the second album, now his association with this movie that is related to Harry and 1D is his way of trying to stay relevant again in the fandom.

This is my perspective, but anyone can have a different POV of what the movie is hated and probably they would explain better than me. Sorry for the long response as you can't see I can't write short answers.

So MIAB was the first song she and Max Martin wrote together and it was in 2012. That's interesting. Also the songs she chose for the Max Martin medley are interesting too. "Standing here hoping it gets to you" "That's how you get the girl" "please leave me stranded, it's so romantic"

I love that she chose these max songs to celebrate him in Sweden.

Taylor said 'I was in a studio with them writing a completely different song" said it was a friend of her Ex that she hadn't met before. The song they started and didn't finish could have been Message in a Bottle (because it is also with Max) (Taylor said MIAB was first 19 May 2024) but they wrote WANGBT instead, so they were kind of the same time, but WANGBT was finished first.

This post of her in a kitchen is dragged in, but that was the day before not with Max... I think that was about Babe given the timing with H's NZ kiss the day before MIB doesn't make sense. It would also make sense why MIB wasn't finished that day.

Years after being publicly cut from 1D he was still praising Harry’s songwriting in a (contentious) interview (45 mins). So I will always side-eye WANGBT.
