Borneo and indeed Indonesia, is home to many species of large insects. I once visited the top of a hill where there was a communications tower with flashing lights. It attracted many HUGE bugs! They gave me the willies but I think I hid it ok. There is something awe inspiring about these insects. They’re big enough so you can imagine them growing to human size, (I watched too many Japanese monster tv shows in the late 60s 🙀). Yup, karena estimasi individu di alam yang terus menurun akibat hilangnya habitat dan juga ancaman dari perburuan ilegal yang adalah siklus dari perdagangan sawa liar. Menurut wikipedia, kini jumlah individu di alam tinggal 600 - 1.000 ekor! Oh no! Jadi TOLONG jangan mendukung eksploitasi satwa liar dengan berkontribusi dalam perdagangan satwa. Tidak hanya dengan MEMBELI satwa nya tapi JUGA dengan membeli bagian tubuh sebagai aksesoris atau produk eksploitasi lainnya kamu sudah SUKSES membunuh 1 individu di alam. Cinta Indonesia berarti menghargai kekayaan alamnya dan melindungi segala yang hidup di dalamnya. I shared the story about my encounter with many large beetles and other insects yesterday but in case you missed it here it is... One of my most intense experiences with insects took place on a hilltop in #Borneo where a communications tower’s blinking lights attracted all kinds of insects including #RhinocerosBeetles and #StagBeetles like this one as well as #StickInsects and huge #FlyingInsects that creeped me out. We were exploring the rainforest on logging roads, which, sadly, facilitated the destruction of the rainforest. We were on small motorcycles and had driven up to the tower. The men running the complex were very friendly and showed us some of the #Insects and some of their operation. I don’t know who they thought we were as we were using our less than adequate Bahasa Indonesia what you would call Indonesian. This was almost exactly 41 years ago in 1978. I spent a year in the city of #Balikpapan where I was an English As A Second Language instructor affiliated with a mission. When I was there you could still get out into the rainforest in #KalimantanTimur by riding a half hour or less outside the city. After seeing graphics that showed the deforestation of the rainforest I became a bit of an armchair naturalist and activist. I still want people to see the wonders I saw.
