And the last name, Phoenix is a modern given name derived from the name for a mythological bird from Greek myth that has become a symbol of renewal, regeneration and immortality. It is a name in use for both boys and girls.

For her disguise name, Miyuki is girl's name meaning "beautiful snow / beautiful happiness". The meaning of this sweet Japanese name varies depending on the combination of kanji used, but the first element mi means “beautiful”.

Satran wasn't getting used to Jolene in his soul very easily. "Girly, I'm trying to train." Satran was hit for the 17th time by his own bullets, in front of all his soldiers. 

"I don't care!" Jolene protested. "I can't even die because of you!" 

"What does that have to do with messing up my training?" "I hope you die in combat!" "Damn, that hate runs deep, huh?"

Satran eventually finished his own training course. It wasn't like his men didn't know. Everyone knew, Satran was bonded with the human. Through his soul. 

Many wondered if that is a fate worse than death, to be bonded with a human. Especially one who miraculously survived without a soul. After all, the human has more control. But is that how it goes when the human has no soul?

Satran was a walking and talking answer to that question. Humans had more control, and the human he was stuck with really let him have it. 

They didn't talk to him very much, which he was thankful for, but they do control him. Satran was tempted to smash his own soul that week, normally it isn't such a big deal for monsters, part of their soul will always regrow. But when honorbound to protect your tormentor, it can lead to death. 

Satran commanded his men to do the training session to completion, "If I can complete this with someone actively trying to stop me, you can." Knowing not to argue, Satran's men were quick with the training. 

After the day was over, Satran went to grab food. He realized this was necessary the day after when he experienced hunger pangs for the first time in his life. 

When he loudly held his stomach and screamed, one of the other monsters concedingly told him humans get hungry, and the human he's harvesting may be hungry. And then told him to drink plenty of water. 

Satran realized something that day, food and water tasted disgusting. And eating was very inconvenient. Taking time out of your day to grab a meal wasted valuable freetime. Satran kept the food light and varied as he could. He was feeding a pest, he didn't have to give them luxury. 

He wasn't sure how being honorbounded to keep the human safe worked. He was for sure he would die after her suicide, but he didn't. But he wasn't dumb enough to test his luck twice. He was bonded with the human in two ways, through his soul, and through his honor code. 

He had a feeling that if he let Jolene die by keeping her from absorbing nutrients through his soul, he would be considered a Breaker and die a slow and painful death. 

Not that she appreciated it any. No, she sabotaged him any chance she could get. After his shower, she had him lay in it and nearly suffocate. That's the problem with humans in your soul, they grow used to the numbness and take it out on you.

News from Italy: A Deep Dive with Ferragamo's First Black Creative Director

When I think about Salvatore Ferragamo, my mind instantly goes to classic and conservative. The recent rebrand included everything from a name change to just Ferragamo, a new red, and a new creative director by the name of Maximillian Davis who did a deep dive with the Wall Street Journal’s Rory Satran. The article discusses Davis’s experience joining the legacy house and his background.

Davis was brought in to modernize Ferragamo, no easy task since the brand has been known for it’s old-school, conservative look for as long as I can remember. The WSJ called it “your grandma’s favorite show brand” because of Ferragamo’s legacy with American A-listers in Hollywood. I think it’s really important to acknowledge Davis’s background when analyzing his impact at Ferragamo. In the article, he credits his Caribbean-immigrant parents with introducing him to fashion at an early age. Davis has been intimately familiar with the Salvatore Ferragamo logo and the Gancini buckle from an early age. He appreciates the clean and classic nature of tailoring because it was instilled in him from his father, there’s a legacy to his story and it aligns with Ferragamo’s aesthetics.

I think Davis is part of a new generation that will serve to grow and continue the legacy of Italy’s luxury fashion houses. He has a legacy of his own and is adding to Ferragamo’s by bringing the glam back. Ferragamo is back on A-listers, back to its roots of being photographed on actors, models, singers, and even Formula 1 drivers. Davis is Ferragamo’s first Black creative director, and his British, Trinidadian, and Jamaican backgrounds come into play as he steps on the Italian luxury scene. Because not only did he make a statement of inclusivity with androgynous tailoring and gain support from Black A-listers like Zendaya and Lewis Hamilton who were among the first to be photographed in his designs for Ferragamo, but he hopes to just be a spark in a more significant movement towards revitalization through inclusivity in the world of luxury.
