spine material: linen/viscose natural cloth backed with paper

cover material: 4/0 Pepin (2017 Art Nouveau) of dubious weight over 160gsm Canaletto 20% cotton & acid free bookpaper and 1mm board

binding: sewn board with breakaway spine

my first sewn board binding and breakaway spine! the latter of dubious success! I really liked how simple and easy this binding style is and even though I don’t have a guillotine to trim the textblock after sewing it all up, I think it looks very neat. this style of binding uses very little glue, a big plus for me (a glue hater) and has a soft pillowy feel to the cover as a result, which I simply love. I’ll definitely be making more books in this binding style in the future!

#am I using offset printing terms in these specs? yes #did I print this offset? lmao absolutely not I have a janky HP home printer #I JUST WANTED TO TRY IT OUT OK #the text is 4/1 because the half title page has a colour logo but the rest of the book is black #if not for that one page with colour the text would just be 1/1 meaning one colour black in both sides #and yes it annoys me that pepin press don’t have the paper weight stated anywhere and I’m not about to Google it #my guesstimate is between 90 and 110 gsm #anyway!#my binding #fanbinding #bookbinding #taywen #uprooted #sarkanxsolya #naomi novik
