sargamis having the a mosaic of the dawnstars in the style of islamic art is an inspired choice.
seeing as how he hails from aedyr and we see similar motifs in the aedyran palace in the story trailer, i wonder if we'll see more of this in aedyran architecture.
Tumblr media
plus the throne room has those distinctive horseshoe arches, famously seen in the mezquita of córdoba
Tumblr media
(apologies for the poor resolution. i really had to zoom in on these suckers to make the details visible.)

Haven't seen anyone breaking down this article yet so here's the sparknotes:
After the opening main mission, the MC is sent to find a missing Aedyran expedition team
Companions will chime in with banter during exploration
Interactable environments are a thing; the author could blow up walls to find new paths
Companion commands will be accessed through a radial wheel
Mage is apparently "the most difficult class to use"
Can switch between two weapon sets
NPCs: Caedmon, a member of the expedition you have to rescue, and Sargamis, a "gold-skinned deity-like creature" that acts as a quest giver. Might be a godlike.
Presented without context:

avowed gameplay!!!
youtube
a summary of the video:
game mechanics:
there is parkour
the five ability trees are: Fighter, Ranger, Wizard, Godlike, and Companion
there is swimming
lore that people in-game know (tiny spoilers):
sargamis may have named himself after one of the early figures in eothasian scripture (dialogue option available for arcane scholar background)
in-game lore explanation "(...) Eothas was destroyed, but later rose again in the Deadfire Archipelago. What happened to him there is a matter of speculation."
in kai's words "Eothas is a dangerous god associated with Eora's bloodiest wars, and he recently killed thousands of people in Deadfire."
sargamis has this cool sword
Tumblr media
plot of a part of the game and some fresh lore (bigger spoilers):
sargamis built a statue of eothas and has some animantic devices near it
sargamis is looking for a relic called Splinter of Eothas. "You see, this construction beside us is no mere statue, but a reliquary I have built to house the Splinter of Eothas in its appropriate grandeur. It is nearly complete, and ready for the Splinter to be interred, but I can no longer reach the relic on my own". that relic was also sought by the aedyran expedition team the player character is looking for
the expedition team is found dead without a single wound. some dialogue options about it are "I've seen something like this before, in the creation of animats" and "They remind me of the bodies of the godlikes who died a few years ago". this implies that some godlikes lost their souls somehow (imo most likely the gods fed from them because they were starved of essence)
kai theorizes sargamis put the sould of the expedition team into that statue of eothas in the main chamber. one of the dialogue options that requires intellect 2 is "Could the oracle's plan have something to do with Eothas' vanishing at Ukaizo?"
sargamis, upon being confronted about killing the expedition team: "Ah. I did not expect you to be so thorough in your explorations. Nevertheless, am impressed. As to whether I killed them, well, that is a matter of semantics. Does death occur the moment the heart ceases beating, or when the soul is broken upon the Wheel? In one sense, then, they are quite dead. In another, they remain very much alive.
sargamis intends to redeem eothas
sargamis: "The relic you have retrieved was stolen from Eothas' body. He is bound to it, or it to him. And before the events at Ukaizo, he would speak to me through it. He speaks to me no longer, but I believe he resonates with the Splinter yet, as I do. If I am correct, when it is placed in the statue, the magnifying power of the adra will draw him into it, and he will be trapped. Locked into the reliquary with a chorus of furious souls acting as his conscience... He will finally begin the work of making right all the wrong he has done."
if the pc agrees to help sargamis and does what he asks, the process fails. sargamis then asks the pc to lend their godlike chime

Cold Water (chapter 8: Saman: The Flood - Part 3)
AO3 | chapter 1 | next chapter
Spoiler warning: spoilers for The White March.
Abydon was never his god, but he wasn’t the worst god to die with.
Up to that point, it was mostly Maneha carrying the hammer around - fit her size and fighting style better than his - but, when it came to that, Edér found that he could manage it just fine. There was a nice heft to it, but not to the point where swinging it was too much effort - and, when you did swing it, you could be sure it’d connect the way you wanted it to.
The first strike was louder than he expected; the ringing from the crystal was almost painful to hear, but maybe that was just because of how quiet things were a moment ago.
It didn’t look like anything was happening, at first, so, before the crystal even stopped ringing, he hit it again. It wasn’t as jarring the second time around.
True to her word, Selene was there; if he closed his eyes, it felt like she was standing next to him. She was holding their connection, still, and sometimes her vision would flicker into his, and for a moment he’d stop seeing his own hands and the hammer and the crystal, and see her hands on the rocks separating them.
Around the fourth hit or so, they started coming.
Eyeless. Selene said that there were a lot of them; still, he didn’t think there were that many. It felt like they were coming out of the walls, cramming into a tight space that was made even tighter by the recent cave-in.
He kept hitting the crystal. The Eyeless joined in.
Soon, it was so crowded around the crystal that he didn’t know how they hadn’t trampled him yet; maybe something about the hammer told them to give him space.
Somewhere, something started cracking.
Selene would have to go soon. She knew that, too. The flickers of her vision showed her shooting a worried look at the ceiling, then looking back to the cave-in.
Don’t push it, Edér thought, and hoped she’d hear.
It was getting noisier. The rubble separating them shifted and sagged, as if the ground beneath it began to give way.
Through Selene's eyes, he saw a rock dislodge from the cave-in and roll down into the tunnel where she was standing.
“Selene! - ”
Then, a crash, and the vision was gone.
No, no, no -
A flicker. Selene, running away. One last push through the connection - a pang of pain in his chest - and then it was gone. She was gone.
Out. Safe.
He breathed out.
“...Made it.”
The words came out suddenly, even though he didn’t really think them. Still, something about them felt right.
The handle of the hammer was warm in his hands. He hadn’t stopped hitting the crystal. Couldn’t stop, now.
Water lapped at his ankles, higher than it was before.
He kept going.
With Selene gone, there wasn’t anything to keep him from thinking about what was going to happen. Would it be quick, or slow? Would it hurt?
He didn’t want to spend his last minutes on Eora thinking about that - he’d find out the answers soon enough, anyway - so he focused on the steady beat of the hammer instead. Now that he’d found his pace, it was easy going; he could almost put a tune to the rhythm of his strikes.
Sure enough, one came to mind - and, once it did, it was hard to shake off.
Silver strands of daylight bloom o’er the eastern sky -
Couldn’t escape who he was, after all.
Silver crown of Eothas, rising as foretold -
You’re born with a god, it stays with you. Even if the god’s dead. Even if you’re about to die to a different one.
By and by the Dawnstars fade, bowing in reply -
Maybe Selene would have better luck with that, once he’d paid her price for her.
It was a nice thought. Dying in Gilded Vale wouldn’t have made a difference; dying in the war might have, or it might have not, and he’d never know.
Here, though, he knew what he was getting in return - and it was a good bargain.
Whatever Selene would do with the rest of her time, she’d do good. He’d traveled with her long enough to know that.
Eadnung’s bell and Modegund’s and Sargamis’ tolled -
The water came up to his waist. Then, to his chest.
Things were breaking all around, but it was hard to make sense of it with all the ringing in his ears.
He thought he’d get crushed by rubble, but truth was, none of it was reaching him at all. The Eyeless, with their tall frames and long legs, were almost like a protective cage around him; anything that could fall on him got caught in the mess of their limbs and tossed aside.
No, it would be the water that’d get him. Eventually, it was so high that swinging the hammer got difficult; Edèr thought about climbing up some rocks or maybe the Eyeless themselves, but it seemed like more trouble than it was worth.
He'd have to dive down.
He did.
It was so cold. How didn't he notice sooner how cold the water was?
The breath he was holding was the last one he’d ever taken, and the weight of his armor was already squeezing it out of him. Why hadn’t he taken it off? It wouldn’t protect him here.
At least it did a good job sinking him down to the floor, where he got a couple more hits in before there was no more air left in him, and his body took a deep breath without even asking for permission first, and in came water instead of air.
He couldn’t hold on to the hammer, after that. Even when he knew there was no point, his body was fighting and scrambling and gasping for breath and finding none, and he couldn’t stop any of it.
It was cold.
And then, it was over.
Notes: The Eothasian song in this chapter is from the short story "The Reaping".

"No, a statue is what my lord deserves. A graven image for a remorseless god...
Cold as winter light, distant as the tallest peaks of the White March - fit only for he who stares at history and does not blink."
sargamis, my lad, you did not need to go so damn hard.

Avowed Tinfoil Hat Time
one tiny lore tidbit that is fairly obscure, and actually might have a lot to do with the story of avowed is that the emperor's scepter has an adra jewel which stores the souls of past aedyran kings and queens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this comes into play in a couple of lines with sargamis from the barbarian gamescom footage, when the player and the oracle speculate a bit on just why the emperor would send our envoy in particular.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
could the ancient souls in the scepter, y'know the major icon of aedyran heraldry
Tumblr media
could the ancient souls have communicated to the emperor that our godlike envoy might have some connection to the living lands. and could that connection go all the way back to the godless and the origin of the two major ethnic groups in aedyr? both the meadow folk and wood elves are said to have originated in the far north.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
north, vitally, being the direction in which lies the living lands. was there some calamity that caused the godless to flee and become the far distant ancestors to the aedyrans?
Tumblr media
i don't quite think the timeline would match up, but if it does. . . oh boy oh boy oh boy

Lots of overlap between this and the IGN article, but some new notable things this author mentions:
A tooltip-like mechanic that allows you to read up on the context of unfamiliar lore terms and titles
Kai apparently shares a lot of personality with Garrus
Author notes that the graphical elements don't always gel well together, and it appears as a "hodgepodge" of influences, without a clear identity of its own
Sargamis and the expedition are after the same item
All classes seem to be able to throw grenade-like items

also what's with all the wires and possibly adra on eothas' statue? is sargamis doing animancy?
it seems like in avowed we will meet a new type of godlike!!! (aside from the player character). there are a couple of screenshots from avowed in this article and one of them countains this individual
Tumblr media
my best guess is that this is a dawn godlike (eothas' godlike)
