Ooh, how interesting to see the Acolytes in a non x book but this is a good place to have them show up since it deals with his kid and grandkid... also they are calling this lady Screener here but in all her latter appearances she will be "Scanner" so I'm gonna stick with that...
Anyway, we see that the Acolytes don't like that Luna is human and so they deem a "cleanseing" as needed.

Obscure Marvel fancast of the day: Isabel Durant as Sarah Ryall aka Scanner! After Fabian Cortez started a cult called “the Acolytes” in the name of Magneto, who had been killed at the time (his death orchestrated by Fabian Cortez himself to make a martyr out of him), Sarah Ryall aka Scanner was one of the first recruits. She’s notably more naive and nicer than other Acolytes, and doesn’t participate in the slaughter of humans the way most of them. She even questions it to Fabian Cortez, which…doesn’t go well for her. As in “he creepy touches her hair while she kneels between his spread legs, then he pulls it to make her scream”. Yeah. After a defeat by the X-Men, Scanner requested to stay at the Xavier Institute but was declined. After this, the usually passive and naive Scanner became bitter and angry that the X-Men did not extend an offer for her to join the X-Men or receive a reprieve to help rehabilitate her, much like the X-Men had done for former young and misguided villains like Rogue, and she was more aggrssive in conflicts after that. On another occasion when several Acolytes questioned the necessity of their ongoing conflict with the X-Men, the usually shy Scanner was the most outspoken among them. She asked why they couldn’t disagree on their methods but still respect them, particularly in light of the way the X-Man Cyclops had aided them when Avalon was destroyed. Their debate was interrupted by the arrival of Professor Xavier’s astral form. Scanner lashed out at him, expressing her resentment over the way he erased Magneto’s mind and denied her a home and better life with the X-Men after they returned with Cyclops.” In fact, she really seems less evil and more just lost, weak-willed, easily led by powerful/charismatic types, and looking for a home, since after Xavier turns her down for the X-Men due to her being a villain, she later says to him “You could have given me a real home!” which suggests to me she doesn’t have one, she has nowhere else to go besides this shitty cult (and cults are really hard to leave, that’s part of why they’re so dangerous) She also seems to parrot whoever is in charge at the moment, be they Fabian Cortez, Exodus, or Magneto himself, while not necessarily truly believing in what they spout, but not having any better ideas of her own, or the will to stand up for them. Scanner was the scout of the Acolytes, able to astral project in an electro-transitional state rather like a hologram. She could appear instantly in any location she chose in this state, or move at very fast speeds, as well as use her astral form to disrupt the astral forms of others upon contact, forcing them to return to their body. She could also psionically detect other mutants, hence her codename. Scanner was one of the mutants depowered on M-Day, and no word has been available about her status since.

My hc for the mutants in Emmanuel “Percival” Cortez’s lineage are Fabian Cortez, Sarah “Scanner” Ryall, Francisco Milan, and Doug “Cypher” Ramsey.
Fabian because of the name, Scanner and Milan because their powers are sorta in the same ballpark, and Doug because I just think they look sorta similar. Plus Doug was kind of a big player in the whole Krakoa thing so it makes sense Hickman would give him a descendant as much as Emma, Magneto, and Magik.

Finally drew the twin younger brothers that Malcolm had in a dream from two years ago. I can’t believe I still remember them, let alone that their names were Johnny and Elijah. Very not-Spanish names, but so is”Malcolm” so I blame the mom, who I headcanon as Sarah Ryall aka Scanner of the Acolytes (who I also default as Mal’s mom)

Let's step outside the narrative here... Fabian is ramping his evil up to 11 here, and while he has always been a little tin-pot dictator... he has never just slaughtered innocent people before... this is a common writing move, where they are pushing a character further to an extreme so when someone new comes in to replace them at the same opinion as that evil character's original position, they will feel like the level headed one...

Star Wars Panels at NYCC
I won’t be at New York Comic Con this year but over the coming days, I’ll be keeping track of the Star Wars news coming out of there just like I did with HASCON.
Outside of the panels listed below, there are also signings, meetups, and booths perfect for Star Wars fans such as The Walt Disney Studios booth which looks like it’s going to center on The Last Jedi.
I wonder if they’ll do something special on October 8th which is when the theatrical poster is rumored to be released... 🤔

I wrote THIS POST about working the Acolytes into X-Men Evolution as adults and as a new Brotherhood, but of course they could also, in the spirit of the show, be a high school AU, and here's what I have for them: Fabian Cortez: The popular kid Anne Marie Cortez: That really weird girl jock Amelia Voght – The girl who doesn't want to get involved in this mutant stuff and would prefer to just be normal. Smart, attractive, sort of their Jean Grey but with a bit of Daria in there Sarah “Scanner” Ryall – The kinda nervous but still popular pretty girl Carmella Unuscione – The tough girl, might have a feud going with Amelia like she did in the Mutant Empire novels Joanna “Frenzy” Cargil- The activist type girl The Kleinstock triplets – Cliche high school bullies, might be on the football team with Fabian Marco Delgado – Big shy kid, also possibly on the football team but might've quit after injuring another player Chrome – Obnoxious hipster nerd. Maybe emo or grunge instead of hipster, a lot of teen scene/emo/etc kids seem to grow up to be hipsters. Whatever, he's that sneering skinny kid who wears a scarf in June. Kamal El Alaoui – Cute foreign student from Morocco Seamus Mellencamp – Homeschooled due to his monstrous mutation, discovered by the other kids in like a Boo Radley type episode Simon “Neophye” Hall: The shy new boy Francisco Milan: The computer lab nerd/sci-fi gamer
