I'm replaying Prey and (in the light of my own conversion and having learned more) I noticed a thing:

Head of Security Sarah Elazar is very likely Jewish, specifically Beta Israel (one of the Ethiopian Jews). Her original name is stated to be Sarai, and there is a highlighted text from the Song of Deborah to be found in her cabin.

Now, the most obvious reading regarding her name is to link her to Sarah the matriarch, wife of Abraham. The story of the Abrahamic covenant sees her leaving behind her old name Sarai, which is clearly mirrored here in the game.

In addition, in the Torah, Eleazar was the second High Priest after Aron (and the nephew of Moshe). He only became the High Priest after Nadav and Avihu were killed after offering a sacrifice with "foreign fire" (in parashat Sh'mini/Leviticus 10).

Interestingly, foreign fire in Hebrew is אֵ֣שׁ זָרָ֔ה, which can be transliterated as êš zārāh. (The story of Nadav and Avihu is often understood to talk about arrogance; Aron's sons break multiple rules as they offer their sacrifice, and for that G-d kills them. One interpretation that I personally like (courtesy of Rabbi Micah Streiffer) also talks about the two sons making the act of worship about them instead of the community, but this is getting off topic.)

So Sarah Elazar's name is simultaneously a reference to Sarai/Sarah the matriarch AND the foreign fire/the sacrilege AND the High Priest who eventually succeeded the wrongdoers. To be exact, the Hebrew word זר [zaʀ] can be an adjective (foreign/extraneous/strange). The same word can also be a noun, in which case one translation is "stranger/outsider".

Sarah Elazar is indeed a stranger in a strange land. She is one of the few people outside of Psychotronics who knows about the Typhon research. Morgan Yu describes her as trustworthy, and immediately remarks she doesn't trust them or Alex Yu. Elazar is one of the few people who survive the Typhon onslaught, and you meet her at the Cargo Bay where she is leading a group of survivors.

As a leader, she is an outsider. Her backstory implies she was likely born in the US or immigrated there when she was fairly young (she states her mother Americanized her name), in which case she was also a stranger back on Earth (as a Jew, a black woman, and an immigrant). And to wade still further in, as Beta Israel she'd definitely be considered a Jew, but not a "default" Israeli Jew. It's an ugly fact that black Jews face racism within the community.

What an interesting character.

Alex: mostly they just... float or skitter around. i dont know what they're planning on doing with earth- likely filter it down until all the usable materials are taken. aka consciousness and human bodies- they use us to create more of them, either with mimics 'feeding' and then using that matter to create more mimics, or weavers convert people to phantoms. they are interesting though, and now cobalt is finished i'm starting to observe them more. if i can predict how they'll act and speak through the coral, i might be able to get through to them, or help m get through to them. we have a way to communicate now- if we use it right, we might be able to save more lives... if not, we can manipulate how they work. m managed to save me, we might be able to save others if we act fast
