— SETTING: refined palette ; dec 21st — AVAILABILITY: closed starter for RACHEL HARGROVE | ( @rachelhargrove )
Sara was more than happy to have a break from everything. With her fathers being in town for the holidays, they were spending time with their grandson while Sara stepped out of the house for what her own parents claimed to be and encouraged to have: a childless day. At first, she didn't really know what to do, but soon, options started appearing and before she realized, she was taking a step into Refined Palette, a place she enjoyed far too much in the city.
After grabbing herself a glass of her favorite wine, Sara took a seat in front of one of the blank canvases and started working on it, letting her mind take control of her brush. She was on her second glass of wine when someone stepped closer, taking her mind off of her painting. "If you're looking for a place, I think this seat's free. The person who was here has just left." She said, motioning to the spot beside her. "There are blank canvases over there." She motioned to a table with canvases of different sizes.

"My only question these days has been 'why haven't I bought it sooner?'!" With that, Sara let out a warm chuckle. The type she'd been missing for a while now. Getting yourself involved in a situation that would get your heart broken tended to do that: make you want to laugh less. Hopefully, she would start going back to her regular self soon. "I have a long list of house utensils I see online and want to buy, but I won't bother you with it."
When Rachel mentioned spotting her friend, Sara realized she was probably hogging a spot and keeping this woman from having a nice time with her friend. "Oh! I'm done with my painting." She said as she got up from her seat and started organizing her little working area. "You should tell your friend to come over and sit here. That way you guys can chit chat while you paint." Sara offered the blonde a smile. "It was really nice meeting you, too, Rachel. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season!"

end.
As Rachel learned more about Sara's experience with glitter, the more she understood her hatred towards it. "Ah yeah that's gotta be rather a lot of clean up. To put it lightly." She couldn't imagine trying to keep a house clean that way, but considering she had a bit of experience from when her godchildren spent time at her house, she knew that the quality time outweighed the cleanliness. "Ooh, good for you! Yeah I think that is for sure a smart purchase for anyone. I mean I have one myself and I don't have to worry about the whole glitter problem." She laughed a bit, not trying to brag about it by any means. In fact she would gladly take that as an alternative.
"Yeah for sure." She felt like it was a bit of consolation in the words, almost like she'd said that she was lonely and had no one to spend time with and was basically spending the holidays with her friends out of the goodness of their hearts. Maybe that was the case though and she just didn't even know it. Rachel tried not to let it shake her too much. "Well um I actually think I see my friend now, but it was really nice talking with you. I hope you have a good holiday season and good luck with the glitter."

"As a young child, it's really fun." She chuckled. "You look at it and you're like 'oh! look!', but as the mother of a firecracker in the form of a six-year-old, who likes running around the house, leaving traces of his presence everywhere, it's a nightmare." Sara almost groaned at the thought of Bin's first day of school and how he came home raving about being the baby of the class and how everyone was protective of him, all of that, covered in glitter and as he ran around the living room. "At least it made my Black Friday splurge on a roomba, really feel like it wasn't a waste of money." The petite brunette brought her hand up, practically hiding her face behind it.
Ha... she had a point, and it made Sara think that she should've kept her mouth shut in the first place, but she swallowed that self-criticism down with some wine and just nodded at the blonde. "You're right. I just meant... more biased, because I'm judging from the point of view of the mess." And well, she had seen it in a few paintings, too, and couldn't help but feeling like it was one of the tackiest things she had ever seen. "Aw, spending with friends is good though, no? They're our chosen family." / @rachelhargrove
At the mention of the woman having a child she perked up a bit more. Always enjoying about others' children. It was good to hear all the experiences that they had, living vicariously through it whether the person was a friend of hers or not. "Ah yeah, I remember when I was younger and sometimes I'd just find specks of glitter on my arm or something and wonder where the heck it at come from." It wasn't even like she had done a lot with glitter when she was a kid, it just sorta appeared on her at times. This was even before the trend of glittered lotion and lip glosses. She was a bit surprised by the firmness in Sara's voice about glitter considering she'd been rather timid about other things so far. "I really don't think there's such a thing as an unbiased opinion, it's a whole contradiction really." Rachel shared whether it was to inform or more to assuage her, she didn't really know. At the question of her holiday plans she was unsure just how honest she should be about them. "Oh I just probably am going to spend time with friends and stuff." Rachel wasn't lying with her answer, but she also didn't think she needed to add the fact that she was slowly descending into lonelier territory.

"Oh, nice to meet you, Rachel." The petite brunette smiled, using the back of her wrist to brush a strand of hair behind her ear. "I'm Sara. I would shake your hand, but I don't really know which paint is dry and which is fresh anymore." She chuckled, raising her hands defensively. "But thank you. I really do appreciate it." Sara rested her brush on the easel and shifted her attention to her newest companion. "I've been using more pen and paper these days, and my confidence isn't the greatest overall, so a little confidence boost is always appreciated." She said, keeping that smile on her face. "For what it's worth, they have even glitter for people to add. I don't know how smart it is to have grownups with alcohol have access to glitter, but hey... all fun is fun, right?" / @rachelhargrove
"Well it definitely doesn't show at all! It looks absolutely beautiful!" Rachel shared as she felt it always good to tell people the truth especially when it came to complimentary truths. "Oh no not yet. I haven't looked at all the options just yet. The best I can do really is replicate as best as possible. But I'm just excited to do something, y'know?" Rachel really didn't know if the other woman could relate, but for her this was distracting herself from being cooped up in her house with only her dog for company and the feeling of loneliness and past holiday seasons haunting her thoughts. "I'm Rachel by the way!"

Sara smiled at the other when she mentioned this being too cute to pass up. It really was too cute, but if she were being honest with herself, she was there probably because she would be surrounded by people and because there would be alcohol involved.
Gosh, maybe she should start making more friends. Take a page out of Quinn's or Hanbin's books and just... you know... talk to people.
"Ah... thank you." She bowed her head a bit shyly as she was often way too critical about her own art. "I haven't painted in a while, so I wasn't sure if it would turn out nicely. Do you know what you're going to do with yours?" / @rachelhargrove
Rachel had arrived a bit earlier than expected and she was hoping it would be a fun little thing to do to numb her mind. She'd also invited Kat to come too, she'd texted to let her know she was here, but as she scanned around she didn't see her face yet. That was when she heard the woman close to where she was standing invite her to sit at the place next to her. "Oh thanks! Awesome! I'm meeting my friend here in a bit. This all just sounded too cute to pass up." She shared as she looked over towards what they had for options as to what they could paint. Then she looked where the woman said she could find canvases before finally looking at what the woman was painting. "Wow! That is stunning! Yours looks amazing!" Rachel complimented as she moved to start setting her stuff down.

Sara couldn't help but chuckle at Rachel's words. If only everyone who usually pried into her life willingly was like that. "You weren't." The petite brunette shook her head. "Prying, I mean." Sara explained what she meant and then continued. "I have a six-year-old at home. I can't tell you how many times he's come home covered in glitter because they were doing arts and crafts at his school." She chuckled. Granted, comparing a child to adults was often seen as idiocy, but Sara found kids to be at least, more honest than adults would ever be. To themselves and to others, actually. "So, not only I don't like it in my art, but also, I don't like it on my kid." Sara shook her head as she reached for her glass of wine and took a sip from it. "Definitely not an unbiased opinion, but oh well." Again, she chuckled. "How are your holiday plans looking out?" / @rachelhargrove
"Well you can definitely tell!" Rachel said encouragingly, unsure if really there was a difference or if that would just sadden Sara and make her think of days past. She hoped that wouldn't be the case, but she nodded along as the other woman explained how she used it nowadays. "It's always important to have those! Escapism too even. But really I'm not trying to pry I'm sorry." Rachel shared apologetically before shifting in her stool a bit. She pursed her lips a bit at Sara calling glitter childish. "I mean I don't know. I don't think that it's horrible. I think that sometimes it can be fun and really it's just totally up to opinion and circumstances of how someone uses it. I don't think it's an affront to art like I know some people do. But I also guess I've never formed a strong enough opinion on it."

Glitter, in Sara's own, humble opinion, was far too much of a child's play than an accessory for art, but, she had seen it used sometimes and she didn't like it. It was messy, tacky, and definitely not her style. She couldn't help but to feel sorry for the person responsible for cleaning up everything after the event was over. "I... used to be." She admitted. Back when she was still married, back when she lived in a completely different country, surrounded by people who thought she was less than she had ever been, before she thought to be loved. "These days, I mostly do it as a coping mechanism, or escape valve." The petite brunette confessed, then picked up her glass of wine to sip on it. "It's not bad. It's just... I don't know... childish? Is that mean to say?" / @rachelhargrove
She laughed at the lack of a handshake and gave a flick of her hand in return. "It's not problem at all. I totally get it. It's nice to meet you too though Sara!" Rachel grinned over in her direction glad that she had given a well placed compliment and even more intrigued as the woman shared more. "Oh? Are you an artist by trade? Or do you just do it for enjoyment?" Her smile softened as the woman shared her confidence faltered. "Well I definitely think a majority of people can relate to that, I certainly know my confidence can waiver." She shared openly, finding it easier to usually share these types of things with strangers than people she knew for forever. "Ooh glitter, you know I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing? I mean as long as you're not putting the glitter in your drink unless it's edible. I don't tend to use glitter in my everyday life."
