Last but not the least for the tennis field in the Summer Olympics, the Women's Doubles final interestingly had third seeds Sara Errani/Jasmine Paolini, who defeated Karolina Muchova/Linda Noskova 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals, took on Mirra Andreeva/Diana Shnaider, who also defeated eighth seed and eventual bronze medalist Cristina Bucsa/Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-1, 6-2 in the previous round. While this match could be competitive at best depending on how they constructed and executed their points, this turned out to be a chaotic encounter coming down to a few crucial points.
Right at the start of the match, Mirra/Diana fumbled S. Errani/J. Paolini's 3 game points, one of those due to S. Errani's backhand error. The deuce then occurred before a failed lob from the eighth seed, which went too far, secured the former's break of serve before they held to 4-1, signifying their dominance as they hung in the rhythm. To add, Diana's instinctive volley followed up her forehand return ace before having some break points, which were fumbled by the Italian pair before they held to 4-2.
Trying to minimize the gap, S. Errani tried to equalize with a working volley even if Mirra/Diana held their serves to 5-2. However, she received an off-court medical timeout in the upcoming changeover, which might have affected her upcoming service game. Due to most of the errors coming on her serves, Mirra/Diana properly anticipated their shots to take the first set 6-2, putting themselves ahead in hopes for a gold medal to them.

Novak Djokovic Beats Carlos Alcaraz to Win Olympic Tennis Gold.    Novak Djokovic of Serbia, 34, has finished a career milestone that long eluded him as he bagged his very first-ever gold medal in tennis at the Olympics.   On Sunday, Djokovic of Serbia defeated Spain's Carlos Alcaraz to finish among the sport's legends as the fifth player ever to finish a career Golden Slam.   Djokovic, 37, won a thrilling final at Roland Garros on Sunday 7-6 [7/3], 7-6 [7/2]. It took him to 24 Grand Slam titles and he became the oldest singles champion since tennis's return to the Olympic program in 1988.   Read Also : Soldiers Nab Notorious Gun Runner ‘Hashimu Ahmad’ In Kaduna   The victory puts him in the distinguished company of Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, Steffi Graf, and Serena Williams as the only players to have won all four Grand Slams and an Olympic singles gold.   Alcaraz was looking for his shot at Olympic gold after an excellent summer that had seen him win both the French Open and Wimbledon; this tenacious display from Djokovic denied him.   He did celebrate quite emotionally, however. He held high the Serbian flag and shared a moment with his family in the player's box.   We almost played three hours, the final shot was the only moment when I was sure I could win the match," Djokovic said after a battle that must have tired him to the core, particularly as he had lost to Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final recently.   A clearly emotional Alcaraz could barely conceal disappointment in a post-match interview. "Three hours, a big battle with tough moments," said the 21-year-old. "It's very painful to lose.   In terms of both endurance and skill, both players did very well: neither gave up serve, with Djokovic saving a few break points to cruise through both tiebreaks and seal the win after two hours and 50 minutes of high-quality tennis.   In the other Olympic tennis news, Italy's Lorenzo Musetti won the bronze medal after defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime to take his country's first men's tennis medal for a century.   Then there was the women's doubles, where the Russians Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider could win gold but would not be registered as such in the official medals table like all Russian success as a result of the invasion of Ukraine.   Cristina Bucsa and Sara Sorribes Tormo of Spain won the bronze in the women's doubles, finishing off a fairy-tale tournament run after defeating Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic.   Djokovic's historic win adds another illustrious chapter to his career and makes him one of the all-time greats in tennis.

Tebriklerimizi sunuyoruz.

WTA Tennis, Madrid (parte tres)
The rest of the tournament progressed quickly and calmly, with some fitting finales at the end of the week: the world’s top two singles players Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka squared off in a rematch of last year’s final, and they served up a 3-hour classic that was tight and tense throughout, and the multiple momentum changes had you guessing right until the end. A final-set tie break was needed to split them, but they couldn’t have come much closer to the match ending in a draw; both players saw championship points come and go, before Sabalenka sent one final forehand long, causing Swiatek to crumple to the floor in what I imagine was a heady combination of exhaustion and ecstasy.
The only blemish on an otherwise superb final was that whoever had their finger hovering over the "activate streamer cannons" button was seemingly caught napping on the job, so by the time they'd activated them, it came as quite the surprise to everyone, especially poor Iga!
Tumblr media
The doubles final – whilst poorly attended – saw a Spanish duo lift the crown; Cristina Bucsa and Sara Sorribes Tormo claimed an unexpected win over their more illustrious opponents Barbora Krejcikova and Laura Siegemund. It was done in emphatic style – they only gave up two games as my last match of the tournament came and went in the blink of an eye! I certainly wasn’t complaining – I dealt with the de-rig in an equally efficient manner, and managed to leave the venue while there was still some daylight in the sky – ¡me gusta!
