ah well. SAO 1 Part 1: Several thousand people get trapped in an online MMO. There Kirito meets Asuna and they become husband and wife, they adopt a daughter named Yui, who is the personified form of an AI made to track the vitals of all players. Lisbeth and Silica also fall for Kirito Here.

SAO 1 Gameverse: Kirito saves Philia from the Hollow Area, where the "Hollow Data" of players is stored. She falls for them. Strea is introduced and revealed to be Yui's "younger sister" as a therapy AI for players.

SAO 1 Part 2: Introduction to Leafa/ Suguha, who is Kirito's biological cousin, but adoptive sister, as Kirito's parents died when he was a baby. She fell in love with him growing up, and his time away from her in SAO made her feelings resurface as she felt so distant from them. Kirito winds up joining a game Leafa plays since Asuna's soul is still trapped inside, during which Leafa falls further for Kirito.

SAO 2: Kirito investigates the DeathGun incidents in GGO, where a single player in game appears to be able to kill other players. Sinon is introduced, and slowly falls for Kirito as they open up to her, and they realize they have a similar traumatic past that they help eachother work through.

SAO Alicization: Kirito is attacked by the final remaining DeathGun in the real world, which puts him into a coma. A secret organization takes their body and brings them into the world of Underworld, where their body can slowly heal, as they spend time in a virtual world where they live through new life events, like a childhood with Alice and Eugeo. Long story short, Alice and Eugeo childhood friends that fall for Kirito. Kirito also in Underworld goes to the Swordsman Academy, where he serves as a page for Liena for one year, who falls for him. And then later his own page Ronye falls for him.

And thats not even going into the second layer coma inside of Underworld in War of Underworld, the extra gameverse stuff with Premiere, Seven, Rain, Fanatio.

Sometimes a family can be a trans girl, a woman she met online, the two AI therapy services they adopted as daughters, and the 8+ women and 1 man who also love the trans girl, one of which is her sister/cousin, one is a sniper who had to kill to protect herself when she was young, one got stuck in an upside-down area where she had to kill her own doppleganger, and at least 4 of them are AI from a video game but they all have souls.

SAO ln volume 16 notes

I finished my reread of the Alicisation arc up to volume 16, so here are some important notes on that volume in particular (none of this is in in anime, btw)

First: In chapter 18-1 we the backstory of Dakira (one of the 4 whirling blades, fanatio's fan girls) as she sacrificed herself to save Fanatio.

She has been turned into an Integrity Knight because she is gay. (She confessed her feelings of love to another girl at an Axiom Church altar, which was monitoring potential taboo violations.) And she was in love with Fanatio. (Not a fan of 'burying your gays', but this is means we know the taboo index is homophobic.)

(Sidenote: It is not particularly surprising that a feudalistic system of goverment, that is built on absolute control, would forbid same sex relations.)

But more importantly, the inner thoughts of Asuna and Alice towards each other are SOO gay!

Let me give you some quotes (these are in chapter 19-4, when Alice clashed swords with Asuna, from Asuna's perspective)

The breath caught in her throat. It was an incredibly beautiful woman who glared at Asuna with such fury that it brought a flush to her snow-white skin. Her sapphire-blue eyes shone righteously.

So this stunningly beautiful woman with the sword as heavy as rock was none other than the world'S first bottom-up AI [...]

Alice's cherry-blossum lips opened and emitted a voice that, while firece, was as beautiful as a violin in the hands of a master.

Then, in chapter 19-5, Asuna compares her aggressive attitude to her initial attitude toward Kirito:

She traced back through her memory, trying to figure out who she'd argued with last before Alice, and she nearly burst out laughing. It had to be Kirito.

And next we get Alice's perspective:

As she listened to Asuna's pristine voice, Alice wondered what it was about her that made her so irritated.

[Alice then keeps wondering about the source of her irritation]

Or perhaps ...it was because the very sight of Asuna's beauty caused the breath to leave Alice's lungs. [more very gay description of Asuna's beauty follows in the paragraph]

She wanted to know about Asuna more than about even this strange new world or their new enemy. She wanted to know about Asuna and Kirito.

(Sidenote: not sure what is a good way to present quotes in here)

(This whole thing has not left me since the first time I read this volume, btw. I am absolutely an Asuna/Alice shipper (well they are both tops, so could also be Alice/Asuna))
