“To play at PalaPanini while wearing the jersey worn by so many champions before me has been one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. Indeed, words can’t explain the feeling of lifting a trophy there. Thanks to Modena Volley and especially to all the fans for their support and affection. There will always be a bit of yellow and blue in my heart. See you soon!”
Here’s Santi Orduna’s message to the fans, since he will join Bunge Ravenna for the upcoming volleyball season. As a fan, I’ve been honoured to support such a hard-working, dedicated and kind player, whose love and respect for the jersey he was wearing is hard to match. Thank you for having been part of our history. I wish you all the best, you deserve it.

Disclaimer: Obviously, the translation isn’t literal nor perfect, as it’s almost impossible to translate many Italian idioms (unless you’re a professional translator whom I am not). However, the translation is still as close as possible, keeping the actual meaning of the players’ words.

MAX AND SANTI’S LIVE
*Forget about my English mistakes and enjoy* Link here Santi: Hi everyone! Max: Good evening! Santi: Afternoon. Max: What time is it? *He laughs* Santi: It’s live! Here we are to answer to some questions we’ve received. Let’s answer to the first one done by Pallavolisti Brutti (name of an italian Facebook page), that always write crap. And so, “Max, would you like to marry me?” Max: Yes, I would. I want to marry all the ugly players (english translation of the expression Pallavolisti Brutti). Go on, go on! Santi: Then Ilaria, who asked us “Would you be able to choose a moment of this season that has stuck in your mind?” That’s too difficult, let’s go on! I would answer directly to “Favourite ice-cream flavour” Max: I would say pistacchio, what about you? Santi: Dulce de leche. Max: oh! Santi: don’t know why he retourned to the previous question Well, the most beautiful moment was surely winning the Supercoppa. *Max laughs* Max: “Max, you always keep calm, it isn’t true but let’s go on, what makes you loose your temper?” Traffic. When there’s traffic I become another person. What about you? Santi: The question is only for you. *Santi laughs* Max: Ah ok. Santi: I won’t answer. *Santi laughs again* Max: So, “how did you meet Lucila?” Santi: I met her in Argentina about ten years ago, she plays volleyball too and we met in the gym where we both went. From that moment we’ve started dating. *Max and Santi say something unintelligible* Santi: That’s for you, Max. Silvia asks “What do you think about Americans who voted Trump? Why was he more convincing?” Max: Yes, I think that’s the reason literally translation, but I think he meant that Trump won because he was more convincing. “Are USA ready for a woman president?” I think yes, but there are plenty of things… But now let’s talk about volleyball, no more Trump and stuff like this. Santi: Alessia asks “Who were your idols? Have you ever played against them?” Max:Talking about middle blockers, I’ve always observed Gustavo when he played in Brazilian National team, but I’ve never played against him. And you? Santi:There was Argentian setter, who is now a coach, who’s name is Weber and he was my role model. He was as tall as me, good hands…so I tried to follow him. Then, obviously, I liked Ricardinho a lot and I’ve been able to play against him two or three times. Max: We can’t answer all theese questions! Santi: We have to answer quickly! “Have you got a lucky charm?” Max: I haven’t. What about you? Santi: Yes, but I don’t think I can tell it. Max: Rosita asks “Santi, what’s the piece of advice you would give to a young setter?” Santi: Well, have fun, learn things playing and work a lot on the precision. Focus on the hands’ position and rapid legs in order to arrive quickly under the ball. Max: She also wrote “You’re great!” So, thank you very much Rosita! Then Francesco… Santi: Wait, you have to give a piece of advice to middle blockers. Max: The role of middle blocker is more difficult that the role of setter. *Max laughs and Santi pretends to leave the room* Max: Keep calm on the field, but for me the most important thing is always watching setter’s hands. So always eyes on him/her and then… Santi: Eyes on the ball. *They laugh* Max: So Francesco, “Santi, did you feel sidelined by the coach when Travica arrived? Santi: It’s time for difficult questions. Absolutely not. We’ve been very clear, I talked both with Dragan and with the coach. It was a choice made by the Society, we accepted it and everybody has seen the results. In my opinion the team is very close, we go on and we hope we will continue growing. Max: "Max do you feel fine in Modena? Do you think you will stay here even next season?” Yes, at least until 2020. Santi: Silvana asks “Is there an anecdote of the locker room that you can tell us?” Usually happens things we can’t tell. Max: It’s true! In the locker room we always play with playstation, nintendo… like kids. Let’s go on with Bruno. “How do you feel when about 5.000 supporters stand up clapping their hands for you?” It’s a very big emotion, especially last Sunday, come on Santi. Santi: Very beautiful. It gives us more energy, in particular when starts the “Shallalla”. Max: The best fans. Annamaria asks “Max, when did you start playing the guitar?” Maybe 15 years ago, maybe more. “Santi, how do you feel when you realized you would have replaced Bruno?” Santi: That’s an old question. I didn’t think about replacing Bruno, but I tought only how would be coming in Modena, one of the best club in the world. I was very happy. Max: “What are your best quality and your worst lack?” Santi: Talking about lacks, I’m a very stubborn person. Max: I think too much. I’ve too many things in my head. Santi: And a quality? I’ll tell yours and you’ll tell mine. Max: You’re a very good setter and very very quick. *Santi reads a question written in Spanish* Max: You have to act like Google Translate. Santi: Mucheca is a part of beef we usually cook in Argentina when we have barbecues, but I think here in Italy it would be illegal selling it. In Argentina cow is considered as pig here in Italy: we eat every part of the animal. Mucheca is like a gland, I think. *Santi answers in Spanish* Max: Francesco asks “Santi, how do you feel organizing a team of amazing players?” *Max makes stranges movements and then he thanks Francesco* Santi: *pretending to read* Wait, all this amazing players, except Max. *They laugh* Santi: It’s great, from the trainings to the matches. Playing with those kind of players is amazing, thay all have great spikes and so it’s very funny. Max: *something unintelligible* doing aces, spiking or blocking?“ Santi: You can also add defending. Max: Even defendig.. I defende, sometimes. Mmm.. I would say blocking, because in PalaPanini after a block you look around and supporters are screaming "Blocked, blocked”. Amazing! Santi: Alessia asks “What is your favourite italian dialect and what are the italian words you prefer?” Max: *after laughing* I can’t understand any dialect! Santi: I’ve played in Sicily, in Catania, and sicilian with the word ‘mbare… but also Veneto’s dialect that has a lot of swear words. Max: Camilla asks “What is your favourite city in the world?” Modena. Santi: You can’t tell Modena, it’s written. Max: I don’t care. Santi: You can’t! Max: I’ve been in Rome yesterday, very beautiful. Have you ever been there? Santi: Yes, I have. I liked also Barcelona. Max: Also Paris. But go on. Santi: “What’s your favourite kind of music?” Max: Indie, indie rock, jazz, everything. Santi: I like rock music and also southamerican music. “What’s your favourite italian dish?” Max: Carbonara. “And American?” Hamburger. Americans eat only hamburgers, you know. Santi: Italian dish? I like everything that contains truffle. Few days ago we’ve had a truffle based dinner at Toto Rossini’s house. Tanta roba means amazing Max: Instead an Argentian dish? Santi: Asado. “What was your favourite subject at school?” Max: I have never been a good student, but I’ve always liked writing so journalism, a course I’ve attended at College. Santi: I preferred Math, instead. Max: “Tell us an unknown beautiful place to visit in your country.” Santi: The Andes. Max: I would say Cincinnati, Ohio. Santi: “How old were you when you kissed someone for the first time?” why????????? Max: Yesterday. *he laughs* I was joking, when I was 15. Santi: Maybe I was 13 or 14 years old. I was attending the 7th year of school, so I was surely 13. Max: “What do you fear?” What about you? Santi: Let’s go on with the question “Do you like kids?” Yes, I like them a lot. Max: “Max, how can you still be single?” I’m very selective. Santi: Or not. *They laugh* Max: Vittoria asks “What was the most beautiful moment of your career?” Santi: Difficult. Max: Get back here in one month and tell the Scudetto. *They laugh again* Santi: The arrival here in Modena and also years spent with the Argentina National team. Max: For me, surely winning the bronze medal in Rio. Riccardo asks “What do you like most of Modena?” Santi: Gnocco and tigelle food. Max: Modena is nice and quiet. Santi: Also PalaPanini, the show that PalaPanini means. Max: “What other sport would you like to practise?” Basket, NBA, I follow a lot of matches. Santi: I prefer football, but it is quite dangerous, so now I started play tennis. When the season will finish, I will go playing tennis. THAT’S THE END, BECAUSE THE LIVE WAS INTERRUPTED WITH NO APPERENT REASON.

Cucine Lube Civitanova, who had finished the Regular Season at the top of the table, narrowly survived five sets 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 20-25m 25-19, 15-11) against defending champions Azimut Modena
Bulgaria's Tsvetan Sokolov was the leading force of Lube in the very balanced match, scoring 17 points, with Osmany Juantorena contributing another 12. In less evenly-distributed scoring for Modena, Earvin Ngapeth of France logged 31 points (including 3 aces and 3 blocks) with a 60% (25/42) attacking efficiency - but he seemed all alone with Max Holt of USA and Luca Vettori scoring only 12 each and the whole team gifting their opponents an incredible 42 points on unforced errors (to 35).
Cucine Lube Civitanova: Christenson 5, Juantorena 12, Stankovic 6, Sokolov 17, Kovar 6, Candellaro 11, Grebennikov (L), Pesaresi 0, Cebulj 1, Casadei 0, Kaliberda 3, Cester 4. N.E. Corvetta. Man. Blengini.
Azimut Modena: Orduna 0, Ngapeth E. 31, Holt 12, Vettori 12, Petric 6, Le Roux 4, Rossini (L), Travica 2, Massari 0, Piano 0. N.E. Onwuelo, Ngapeth S.. Man. Tubertini.

Nicola Salsi, Modena's backup setter for Santi Orduna, has decided to leave Modena. Though we might not have seen him on the court that much (since he did only recently move up from Modena's junior team), he is a talented setter. I hope he continues to play/finds a team who can provide more game time for him.

The big news of the day is that Azimut Modena Volley hired the free agent setter Dragan Travica till the end of the current season. There have been rumors for awhile, but now it’s official.
All I can say is that currently there is only one freaking player who never gives up, who always plays to the best of his ability, who respects the jersey he’s wearing. And that player is Santi Orduna.

I'm actually confused! Modena now has 13 players in his team? On the official site, under the "team" link you get the list of all the members. And you see /both/ Santi, Salsi and Travica. Does that mean that we still have a chance to see Santi play with Modena? Do you know something more @modena-volley @zaytsevs ?

So far, who are confirmed to be in the 2017/18 team?
Hi! The new team will definitely include Bruno Rezende, Earvin Ngapeth, Salvatore Rossini and Maxwell Holt; as for Nemanja Petric, in spite of the fact that he technically is still under contract with Modena, he’s likely to leave (at least, these are the rumours). It’s still uncertain what Matteo Piano will do: the club offered him to renew the contract, as they did with Vettori, but it depends on the player and the opportunities he’s seeking given that he hasn’t been a regular this year. The arrival of Bruno raises issues with Santi Orduna as well, who will lose the regular spot but is still uncertain about his future, because he loves Modena very much. Kevin Le Roux has some offers (and to be honest after this disappointing season, Modena will welcome the opportunity to sell him).
On the other hand, Tine Urnaut is close to become the new wing spiker of Modena Volley. The main issue is that Modena has to line up at least three Italian players, and with Vettori leaving, now they desperately need an Italian opposite, which isn’t easy to get as there aren’t many other options out there...
