its been awhile since i’ve drawn usagi related stuff, these were for /co/’s annual storytime...also not to mention my first time drawing Sanshobo in like three years, heh.

ok i hear what youre saying. but what if said character went through the trouble of getting the gun powder blessed. they paid buddhist priests pray over it and briefly stuck the end of the grasscutter sword in it and everything

on one hand, i wanna see a character try to blow up jei with gun powder. on the other hand, i don’t want jei to learn what gun powder is on the off chance that he survives

was talking to @pizzazz-party about an Usagi Yojimbo mermaid au which i think is very important for two reasons. one is miyamoto usagi with a big black and white koi fish tail. the other is that in my head only Usagi is a mermaid, and at some point while swimming around under the sea he discovers Grasscutter and doesn't know it's a sacred artifact but he DOES know that crabs are drawn to it. so to him it is just The Sword That Summons Lunch. this is especially important for the possibility that up on land, the witch hired by the conspirators is getting extremely antsy that the sword hasn't appeared yet, a fuss starts up about it, and eventually Chizu and potentially Gen and Sanshobo as well are searching along the Shimonoseki strait for Grasscutter and they run into this fucking mermaid and have a conversation along the lines of

"We're looking for this legendary sword, a sacred artifact gifted by the gods with great powers."

"Oh, like my sword that summons lunch?"

"NO, NOT LIKE YOUR SWORD THAT SUMMONS LUNCH."

(they were, in fact, looking for his sword that summons lunch.)

Jokes aren't as funny when you explain them, but the lyrics of Rasputin remind of Usagi a little so here he is being tormented by his friends with an edited version. This is a bit OOC for some of them

If I was a more competent comic creator/artist this wouldn't look so sloppy, but I'm just trying to make a joke that probably no one else will find except me so I don't care 😊

Usagi Yojimbo Inktober Challenge

Day 07 - Sanshobo

You are tasked with making an Usagi Yojimbo fighting game. How does it play, and who do you include?

every time i play last blade 2 i think that the mechanics and atmosphere of that game would be perfect for an usagi game, so it’d be a lot like that. there’d be a button just for parrying, some stages with ambient sound instead of music, and so on. i think a single player mode that has you pick a character and wander about a map getting into random encounters against packs of thieves or monsters or other enemies would be cool too.

you could also have a “dramatic time passing” system, which is something i made up and never wrote down before. basically, time passes on the stage (the weather changes, the sun goes up or down, and so on) to give the impression of a long, dramatic duel between characters. but obviously, you aren’t going to be playing a single fight for hours, so “time” would pass quicker depending on certain “drama points”, like weapon clashes, counters and counter-counters, and so on.

as for characters, you have to have usagi, gen and tomoe, as well as zato-ino, inspector ishida and sanshobo. as for evil characters, there’d obviously be jei, but other than that, i’d have to go back and read a bunch of stories to find the coolest one-story villains. a recent evil character who’d be unique enough to make the cut would be the foreigner rodriguez. you could also have a character that was a gang of low-hp, low-skill goons that you controlled all at once to try and take down a single named character. (mirror matches where both players pick the gang “character” would probably entertaining to watch on yourtub too)

every stage would have a random chance of the woodcutter family appearing  somewhere in the background every time you play

WIP of a possible OC for a potential Usagi Yojimbo fancomic (fic-thing), a shrine priestess is sent to train under Sanshobo to hone some strange, spiritual powers, time for research before I embarrass myself further

YESSS!!! Yes to everything you say and more!!!

The only thing this show has in common with Usagi Yojimbo are the characters names. And they didn't even respect that properly!!

Even when they tried to give the characters a similar background to the originals, they just drop that in following episodes.

The aliens thing if you ask me was a poor way to replicate the formula tmnt uses with the Krang and everything.

I'll die on the hill in wich the show should have been 2D instead of 3D. It just doesn't look well, and by the quality of the animation in the first episodes, I think it definitely would have been a better option.

Also, tho I'm really pissed they didn't include Tomoe. Noriyuki, Sanshobo and others, the most 'Wtf' thing I was presented was Usagi’s Sword... Yeah, sword, because apparently he left Willow branch and young willow I don't know where!! Dude!!! We literally have an arc where he gets almost demon mode because of his swords!!! Where are they!!?!? Aaaaah!!!

guys i please ask y'all to not tag "samurai rabbit the usagi chronicles" or anything related to that show in my usagi yojimbo posts

the tags are already messed up because of leosagi thing and people didn't know to distinguish miyamoto and yuichi

not to mention that i'm definitely not a fan of that show, so pls respect

Inktober 2018 - Sakaitober

Another year, another Inktober. And this time, about my all-time favorite comic book.

Since I discovered “Grasscutter” right before going to college, I tried to get every single “Usagi Yojimbo” issue published in Spain. Every year, I buy the newest book, and every year I re-read all the tomes I have. Yes: every single year. And I keep discovering little details here and there that I didn’t realize before.

So it isn’t strange that, sooner or later, I’d make an Inktober based on Stan Sakai’s comic series.

It was 31 pictures, as October has... well, 31 days, but then turned into 32, because of a couple of characters missing in my list. Because Yagi & Gorogoro deserve to be here as well, even if it was on November 1st.

I’d also look at the Christianisation of Japan as a topic of interest due to the fact that Stan has included Christians, usually at the end of a story and their religious affiliation has been shown. Usagi and co generally still believe in the kami and Sanshobo is a practicing Shinto priest (or Buddhist I can’t remember)

can someone please tell me if UY happens in earlies 1600s or lates 1600s? cause' one my comic copies says one thing, then i research and internet give me other thing and–
