You and Blue leaned over the countertop, peering deeply into the glass bowel that held the monstrosity the two of you had created. Blue glanced at all the ingredients you had gathered. Sugar, flour, eggs, milk… how the hell did the pair of you manage to make… that

“The instructions said two cups of sugar right?…” your sentence ended as a bubble of half melted sugar popped loudly, spurting hot flakes of the mixture into the air. Blue shrieked alongside you, his gloved hands gripping your hips as he pulled you away from the counter. His baby blue eyelights trembled as the corners of his mouth fell into a deep frown.

“ARE YOU ALRIGHT HUMAN?!” You nodded, gently patting his arms as you let out a sigh of relief. Though his hands didn’t leave your hips, even as he had to stand on his toes to look into the bowl.

Another malicious gurgle sent the two of your stumbling backwards. Ashen smoke rose up from the top as another bubble of melted sugar popped loudly again.

“OUR CAKE! NOOOOOOOO!!” Blue bemoaned, dragging his hands down his face as your creation continued to generate a poisonous aura.

“Sorry Blue, the grocery stores still open, I’m sure Papy wouldn’t mind a store bought cake”

“IT’S AN IMPORTANT BIRTHDAY THOUGH! HE DESERVES MORE THAN JUST SOME GROCERY STORE STUFF!!”

You shrugged your shoulders in admittance. It was his first birthday on the surface. Still, your legs ached and you were just about sick of looking at all your failed attempts.

“WE CAN JUST TRY AGAIN! SEVENTH TIMES THE CHARM, MWEHEHEH!!!”

Papy’s birthday was tomorrow and Blue, in all his over-eagerness, had convinced you to help him bake said cake. You side eyed the evil cake mix, clearly whatever you had done this time had resulted in something you were sure was going to gain sentience by tonight.

“Alright, fine! But I’m getting a grocery store one just in case, AND this is our last attempt. I think our current attempt is trying to grow” Blue chuckled at your remark, his eyelights slipping back to look at your damned creation. Stars sparkled in Blue’s eye sockets as he let out one of his iconic laughs. His palm resting against his chin.

“OF COURSE HUMAN! THIS WILL BE THE CAKE THAT BEATS THEM ALL! I PROMISE ON MY DUTY AS EX ROYAL GUARD THAT OUR CAKE WILL GO DOWN IN CAKE HISTORY!” Blue offered you his gloved hand and with a raised brow you let Blue excitedly rush you out of the house and back into his car. You slumped into your seat, groaning as your back ached terribly, your eyelids clamping shut as the blinding rays of the sun shot straight towards you.

Blue leaned over, his teeth brushing against your cheek as he gave you a skeleton kiss. You cracked open your eyes. You let out a quiet giggle as he settled back into the driver's seat.

“You’re sweet, Blue” you quietly remarked, rubbing your kissed cheek.

“I’M THE SWEETEST!” You hummed in agreement, your hand reaching out to gently rub his gloved phalanges.

Hopefully this time Blues baking skills improved, otherwise you would both be in for a long night.

…maybe Blue and you had added too much sugar last time round?

you scoffed loudly, still not looking up at him from your textbook. “don’t you already get enough attention from the media and the fans?”

he had to hold back a scoff, rolling his eyes at the idea. he didn’t want attention from fans. he wanted your attention! but he didn’t want to tell you that and sound like some desperate nerd — because he wasn’t! he was him after all, handsome, popular, and definitely not obsessed with you. 

“not enough, princess. besides, those people fawn over the actor!me, not the real me, ya know—”

“i don’t fawn over you at all, so i don’t know what you’re on about right now.”

“oh.” his smirk faded a bit.

that was true, he realized. you despised him, that was for certain. but he wanted you to want him the way he wanted you.

his gaze watched you intently as you wrote on your notebook, looking down at the paper and not at him. he was jealous of the paper. he wished you were looking at him instead.

but his fans would’ve threatened you until you unalived yourself if they knew. they would’ve ruined your life if they knew. you couldn’t be together, you never could.

so you sighed, once again choosing to ignore the subtle pout on his face and how you fell down the stairs one day thinking about it. how he probably thought you hated him right now, and you’d do nothing to change that.

why?

because you were a coward.
