Festival Song Scene - Sakura Quest (Ep 25)
My favourite scene from the slice of life anime, Sakura Quest, where Ririko Oribe sings a song about the town’s folklore legend of a Dragon that was once shunned by the villagers. Unlike the original tale where the Dragon died alone, the song is more hopeful where her spirit returns to forgive the villagers and encourage them to be more open and accepting of outsiders.
It’s an underrated anime about a fresh graduate who has difficulty landing a job in Tokyo, find herself taking a contract job in the countryside for a tourism board as part of the project to revitalize the town and attract young people to return to the countryside instead of going to the big cities like Tokyo. But it proves difficult as most townspeople are conservative and resistant to change.
However, there are a few who wants to see the homes they grew up in change and so along the way, she befriends several others who are part of the project and the friendly locals who assist her in whatever she needs, crowning her “Queen” to lead the change that will benefit both the locals and newcomers, which proves to be a difficult task which is as heavy as her crown.
While she hates her job in the beginning, unhappy in a contract job in the middle of nowhere, the project changes her perspective and mindset. So instead of returning to Tokyo in search for a better job in the big city as she had set out to do a year ago out of the University, she decided to extend her contract and help out another town to revitalise it.
