Sand and Surf Lodge, Fort Bragg, California
I went on vacation last month to the North Coast of California. It's a lovely area with scenic cliffs overlooking the Pacific, ancient redwood forests, and quaint sea-side towns. It doesn't boast the overloading excitement of, say, a Disneyland vacation, but if you want to relax to stunning views, it's a good place to go.
We stayed at this lovely lodge, where we were unexpectedly upgraded from a normal room to the "owner's suite," a two story, two bedroom suite attached to the main office and laundry. I've attempted to recreate it in broad strokes as a Vacation Rental in Windenburg, where I hope my sims will have as much fun as I did.
Tumblr media
The front façade with carport and office. The suite is accessed through the gate to the side and through the sliding doors, inside of which is the keycard-access door.
Tumblr media
The Office. The door in the background is another entrance to the suite. To the right is a door leading to the laundry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The suite enters into the kitchen. There's a full-sized fridge and stove, and plenty of cookware and appliances. The picture to the left in the right-hand picture is the actual painting in the room: it's one of two pieces of cc I made for this build (otherwise I stuck to EA items or cc I already had, such as the stove from Hattie's Coastal collection and the rug from the Cottage Garden collection).
Tumblr media
The first floor has a dining area and living area as well. The sims get only a tv stand, but the real hotel has an electric fireplace under the tv.
Tumblr media
The porch on the first floor has some patio furniture and a barbeque. You can sit and watch the ocean for hours. Stairs lead off the porch and down into a small enclosed garden, and a gate lets out onto the coast-side trail.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The master bedroom. It's a little smaller in reality. Sliding glass doors lead onto the upstairs balcony, where two Adirondack chairs provide seating. By being upstairs and therefore higher, it provides a better view of the water than the porch below.
Tumblr media
The second bedroom. The view is less than exciting: it overlooks a satellite dish and the parking lot. The chest of drawers, on the other hand, is fascinating: giant and with hidden compartments.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The bathroom, which connects to the two bedrooms. It features both a shower and a jacuzzi-style tub, the latter of which overlooks the ocean. I greatly appreciate Hamsterbellbelle for creating a sunken bathtub, as it made the bathroom that much more accurate.

on vacation with the f1 boys ✈️
i love to travel so this is just me being self indulgent lol. also disclaimer i know some of the pictures are not from the country i said the vacation is in, bear with me lol. hope you enjoy and drop me any pref requests you might have!
Lando Norris
Destination: Finland
Lando always went on a ski trip with his friends during the winter break and this year he invited you to go along. You started on the easier slopes, as you both had to get the hang of skiing again, but by the end of the day you were tackling some of the more difficult ones along with your group of friends. Afterwards, the group settled down in the ski lodge with cups of hot chocolate around a crackling fire. You all spent a few hours joking around and catching up after not having all been together for a while. To finish off the day, you and Lando went alone to the sauna where you had the chance to decompress together before heading to bed. All in all, the day was well spent and you asked Lando when you would be able to come back even though you knew the answer would be next year.
Tumblr media
Oscar Piastri
Destination: New Zealand
During the winter break, you and Oscar did not want to travel too far from his home in Australia, so you decided to go to the nearby country of New Zealand. Both of you loved staying at the beach and so you decided to spend most of your days at the scenic shores of the country. After having a relaxing time at the beach, you decided to tour the country’s mountains together and to take in the beautiful views. A personal highlight for you is a romantic dinner with Oscar in the stunning city of Queenstown. All in all, it is a relaxing trip far from the pressures of racing that brings the two of you unforgettable memories.
Tumblr media
Max Verstappen
Destination: Italy
For Max, a vacation was any time he could spend completely away from racing with you and his friends. So, instead of traveling far away from his apartment in Monaco, he wasted no time in going on a boating trip with all his favorite people along the Italian coast. You both spent days lounging on the deck together and nights drinking with the group at the yacht’s bar. The sea made for a perfect getaway from Max’s fast paced life and you could not be happier to get some time with your boyfriend in such a scenic place. Relaxing in the waves truly made for a great time.
Tumblr media
Charles Leclerc
Destination: Los Angeles
Your favorite place to visit together was definitely LA. You both had friends who lived there so it only made sense to take a trip there when you both were free. You spent the days on the beach with him, either surfing if the waves were nice or simply sunbathing otherwise. Charles also convinced you to go on the most extreme rides at all of the amusement parks, giving you an adrenaline rush that kept you wanting more. So many laughs were had with each of your friends, especially when Charles insisted on winning you a giant Ferrari colored banana plush at the arcade. You had no idea where you would find space for it in your apartment, but you knew you would cherish the memories it brought to mind.
Tumblr media
Carlos Sainz
Destination: Miami
To Carlos, it would not be a good vacation without some golf. So, you both decided to head to Miami where you could find the best of what both of you loved doing, golf and relaxing on the beach. While Carlos golfed in the mornings, you relaxed on the beachfront balcony of the house you were staying in. And during the afternoons, you would both head to the beach to relax in the sand and waves. One morning you decided to spice things up and have Carlos try to teach you to golf, but after accidentally hitting the ball into someone else’s golf cart, you quickly scrapped that idea. Your favorite memory of the trip was definitely the day you spent completely together on a snorkeling trip to see a nearby coral reef.
Tumblr media
Lewis Hamilton
Destination: Dubai
When Lewis wasn’t racing, he still loved to be doing something adventurous. Lucky for him, you shared his love of an adrenaline rush. So the perfect destination was Dubai. Every day was filled with excitement, from riding ATVs though the desert to eating at luxurious restaurants in the city. Lewis even convinced you to go skydiving with him at the end of your trip which was an experience you knew you would never forget. There was never a dull moment when you and Lewis traveled together and you knew that once this vacation ended, you would already be planning for another.
Tumblr media
Daniel Ricciardo
Destination: Austin
Everyone knew one of Daniel’s favorite places was Austin, Texas. So when he had a week off after the race in Texas, Daniel of course convinced you to stay with him on vacation there for the next few days. He took you to his favorite bars and barbecue restaurants to savor the food. He also took you to a ranch where you got to ride horses through the American countryside. On the last day of the trip, the two of you decided to go to a country music concert and dance the night away. Both of you loved music and so this was the perfect memory to end what was a great few days of exploring the Texan landscape. And of course you had to get a souvenir cowboy hat to remember the trip by.
Tumblr media
Yuki Tsunoda
Destination: Mexico
As you and Yuki are both foodies, you decided to go to a place with one of your favorite cuisines, Mexico. You arranged to travel throughout the country to try different foods from various regions. Between meals, you would spend time seeing some of Mexico’s most scenic beaches and visiting some of the tourist destinations like Chichen Itza. The best part, however, was getting to spend so much uninterrupted time with your boyfriend who was always away from home. Though you knew Yuki lived the fast life, all you wanted to do with him was relax. And what better place to do it than in such a warm and beautiful country. As for your favorite food you tried? There were too many good dishes to choose!
Tumblr media
Alex Albon
Destination: Phuket
Alex was thrilled when you agreed to go to the country he raced for. When you got there, he excitedly showed you around all of the sights and took you to eat his favorite local food. After a few days of frantically touring Alex’s favorite places, you both decided that it wasn’t truly a vacation unless you relaxed a little bit. So, you spent the rest of the week at the beach in each other’s arms, just savoring the other’s company. There were a few splash fights in the pool and the time where you jokingly pushed Alex off of the boat, but otherwise you spent your time relaxing on the sand. Thai sunsets were truly like no other and you knew you would savor your memories for years to come.
Tumblr media
Logan Sargeant
Destination: USA
When you realized that Logan hadn’t traveled much around his own country outside of Florida, you immediately decided that you were going on a road trip to fix that. The plan was that you would go up the east coast, stopping in all of the major cities to see the sights. From Carolina beaches to the nation’s capital, there were surely a lot of things to do. And when you had a boyfriend who drove cars for a living, of course you got to the be the passenger princess. Every time a road sign showed something that sounded cool, you insisted that you stop. Your personal favorite destination was New York, where you got to show Logan a lot of the famous landmarks that everybody would recognize. Once you hit Boston, you decided to head back south to his home state and warmer weather. You would cherish these memories forever.

# 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐘’𝐑𝐄 𝐉𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐎𝐔𝐒 — SULLY BOYS + KIRI
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
— (avatar : twow) -> drabble !
⠀࣪. ᨳ — synopsis. sullies and their jealousy.
cw. contains no spoilers ! gn + non sully + navi reader
auth notes. wanted to write a jealousy trope w the sully teens, because they’re highly emotional and i love them for it. i barely see any kiri works on my feed (˃̣̣̥ヘ˂̣̣̥) !
characters. neteyam, lo’ak + kiri sully (♡⃕)
warnings. slight angst , but no real warnings
Tumblr media
: LO’AK — ꒷ ᵎᵎ ₊
claims that he is hardly ever jealous. covetous when you join aonung further in the surf than you’re supposed to? sure. bitter when you pitch a friendly arm around neteyam after a close call with jake? fine. but jealous? noooo. he’ll sulk and lodge into a hole with himself all day, eyebrows intrenched and mood sullied with grime. he will confide with payakan and let drop the secret of his jealousy — but it will take weeks for you to converge him in his free time. dwell deep into his bones, skin and soul. feel his jealousy, his bitterness. stipple his knuckles gently whilst he belts his honesty out — “yes, yes i was jealous” — in the stretched out darkness of you and him and the stars — he is bound to love you endlessly.
: NETEYAM — ՞ 〃 ᩙᩙ
thinks he handles jealousy well but its an adversarial clockwork in that head of his. a ticking time bomb. although it takes more to will him, it is not wholly avoidable — lo’ak will lackadaisically mention that you’re hunting with rotxo or seen with aonung, bickering as you usually do, not to get a rise out of his brother — the older’s ears are erect and twitching on their own. but it’s not jealousy, but mere inquisitiveness. it’s in the later frills of the day that he hears from you less often or sees you as a piddling dot. expect him to laxly appear by you, take your hand in his larger one. he will glare more and talk less, just dragging you here and there, with just four footprints — when you nest deep in his warlike head, he will sigh and tell you “i missed you” with his fingers melting on your own and your lips are already on him.
: KIRI — . ˚ 𖧷 · °
its less like a flame with kiri, and more like melting wax: the sting of jealousy will persist in vexing her in the comfortable welt of the sun or silent brooklet with sand and stones at her feet like a candle weeping: she hears her heart, thumping, with the beat of eywa guiding her. but her body is hot and brambly when she spots you awkwardly cackling with her brothers or the boys of the main. she sticks her head beneath the foamy waves and attempts to entrance herself with the rhythm of eywa. she thinks it is because of her difference. her ‘weirdness.’ but her leer and concentration is razed when two blue feet dig in the sand in front of her — water is lodged in her hair and lashes as she gawps at you and asks you “what are you doing here?” and when you tell her how much the boys bore you and how much she doesn’t, she’ll curl her fingers around your palm and giggle as she descends into the nippy waves, knowing no one will intrigue you as much as she does.

PLEASE can I say “argument” for an avatrice prompt I need it
[for @unicyclehippo — bea gets hurt (& gets better)]
//
you forget, often, most days now, what terror truly feels like.
it’s too fast and too slow and you remember: beatrice’s body — lithe and tough and small, all things considered — flies through the air after a bomb goes off, too close to her, too fast for you to step in front of it. everything flashes before your eyes, the life you’ve built together in your warm, airy house by the sea in the city of angels; where beatrice teaches aikido with a bo that isn’t lethal and smiles at her students; where you bartend part-time at a little mezcal spot near your home, just for fun. where you get to wake up to her every day, her tan skin dotted with freckles like constellations that you trace as the sun floats through the curtains before she’s willing to humor your early rising. where you’re reading in the late afternoon light and she sees you and smiles and puts aside your book and kisses you and fucks you on the couch. where she tenderly does your laundry and you steal her soft, big sweaters and trade who puts away the dishes from the dishwasher, still warm. where you squabble over takeout and what show to watch on netflix and whether or not you should make the bed on sundays — where you love her, and are loved by her, more than you ever could have dreamed.
but beatrice is human, part of the painful and absolute miracle of her love: she needed stitches a few months ago when she cut her hand open trying to pit an avocado; she fell surfing and got caught in a rip near the pier and you had watched in horror — having just been reading and relaxing, mostly to enjoy when she finishes and walks toward you with her wetsuit down around her hips — as a lifeguard fished her out and turned her on her side in the sand, as she coughed up water and took in frantic, ragged breaths, had a cold for days and slept. she is so human, and so fleeting, and so fragile; she’s strong and precise and hasn’t lost a step — but she’s human. sometimes you forget: beatrice can die.
it’s hard to tell all of the damage, really, as you phase over to her and then kneel, send out a halo pulse as hard as you can to buy you time. you hadn’t had to fight in a few months; battles pop up rarely now, and are usually not particularly dangerous. mary is kneeling by your side in an instant and takes over from where your shaking hands had been ineffectively flitting over bea’s still body. there’s shrapnel — metal, sharp and jagged — lodged above her left hip, through her armor; it’s clear one of her legs is at an angle it shouldn’t be, her femur bent impossibly. but worse than that, so much worse, is that she isn’t opening her eyes when you say her name, frantically and loudly: there’s blood coming out of her nose and her ears, and her face is peaceful. you wish, you pray now, more than willing to believe in anything you have to, when you bring your finger to her pulse point, her favorite place for you to kiss, and, consecrate, feel a flutter there. it’s fast, and faint, but it’s there.
‘she’s alive,’ you say.
mary squeezes your shoulder. ‘yes, ava, she’s alive.’
lilith is beside you soon, and takes one look at your face and the shrapnel and blood — beatrice’s blood — and then nods once.
‘i’ll take care of things here,’ mary says. ‘i think you got all the demons, ava. let lilith take you.’
you don’t really give a fuck about demons at this point, and you trust lilith’s care of beatrice, if not for you, enough to know it’s by far the best option. you’re worried about fractures in beatrice’s back or ribs, but you don’t have much of a choice. ‘yeah, okay.’
you haven’t been to jillian’s in a while; you ripple through space and time with bea’s limp body in your arms. jillian has doctors who work with her now, a trauma surgeon on call whenever there are battles, because it’s safest for anyone from the ocs to go here when things are bad. everyone rushes into action next to you — calm, sure, urgent — and secure bea’s airway and breathing once she’s on a gurney, put a c-collar around her neck and cut off her armor. lilith tries to drag you away, and she could, probably, but, in the same way you cannot, under any circumstances, watch beatrice die, you also could never, ever forgive yourself, in this life or any to follow, if you left the room and she doesn’t, eventually, come home with you.
the doctors put gauze around the metal in bea’s side, not taking it out yet. jillian has all kind of fancy technology that lets them do whatever scans they need — beatrice’s leg is broken; her spleen is bleeding; there’s a laceration to her liver; luckily, her skull isn’t fractured and they don’t see any bleeding in her brain, although there is a deep bruise along where her head had hit the wall.
‘we need to get the shrapnel out,’ jillian explains to you, after lilith has bullied you into a chair on the edge of the room. ‘and then we’ll repair her liver and spleen, then her femur. dr. sanders is confident that she’ll be able to fix everything safely.’
everything she’s telling you comes through like you’re underwater, and lilith waits for a moment before she rolls her eyes, mostly for posterity, and explains, ‘she’s going to be okay, ava. we got her here in time.’
‘yeah?’
‘yes,’ jillian says, a gentle smile sent your way. ‘you can see her, for a moment, before we take her back to the operating room.’
your legs feel shaky and you hate it, the splint on her leg and the light blue of the hospital gown they’d put over her and how her eyes are still closed. ‘hey bea,’ you say, pick up the hand that doesn’t have an iv in the top of it, and kiss her knuckles. you brush your thumb along her cheekbone, where her eyes are already bruising blue, and then run your fingers gently through her hair — buzzed on the sides, short and textured on top, dark and neat and soft; she’d cut it a few months ago after waiting for a long time to work herself up to it, and come home from the salon with an unspoken weight off her shoulders, unable to hold back a smile, so beautiful and so handsome and sexy as hell, a gradual becoming that always makes you so proud, and you kissed her and like always, love her more, and more, and more. ’i’m sorry.’ your voice shakes; you will it to be steady: even if she can’t hear you, you don’t want her to be scared. ‘you’ll be okay, baby. it’ll be okay,’ you tell her now. ‘i love you. in this life, okay?’
of course, there’s no response other than her steady, shallow breath, her eyelashes long enough to rest against her cheeks, and mary, somehow fetched by lilith, probably, touches your elbow.
‘ava, let’s go wait in the garden, yeah?’
you clench your jaw but you know she’s right; you let her lead you to a bedroom first, not the same one that you had shared with beatrice, all those years ago, back before you’d kissed her and died for her and come back for her, back before you knew how it felt to touch her in the tender light of the morning. mary leads you by the shoulders into the bathroom, and gestures toward the shower. you hadn’t realized, but when you look down, there’s beatrice’s blood all over your front, all over your hands, dried and dark and flaky, and it makes you sick. you take off your clothes as quickly as possible, a little frantic and your breath coming so fast.
‘ava,’ mary says from outside the door, and then softer: ‘ava.’
it helps you steady yourself; you look around like you’d practiced so many times in therapy and name, to yourself, how many tiles there are above the sink, how you see shampoo and conditioner in the shower, how there are three toilet paper rolls stacked neatly in a little holder by the toilet.
‘i’m okay,’ you say, your voice less shaky than you had feared, and you wait for the water in the shower to warm up and then step in. you know mary is right outside, and you wash the blood off as quickly as possible, not bothering with washing your hair or caring about anything else, having no real desire to take a long time — nothing will be soothing to you right now, so it’s probably better for you and for the sake of the world, the halo smoldering in distress between your shoulder blades — to sit with mary, and probably mother superion, who you imagine is on her way and close already.
‘i’m leaving some clothes,’ mary calls to you. ‘i’ll be waiting outside.’
you dry off in a daze and put on the comfortable clothes mary had brought — a light, loose pair of pants, a comfortable t-shirt, a thick, cotton sweater — and tuck your hair behind your ears before you walk out and find her literally right next to the doorway in the hall. she smiles at you and then takes off in the direction of the garden, where you’re unsurprised to see mother superion, who gives you a tight hug. when she puts her hand to the back of your head, you finally start to cry. you’re angry, because you’ve built your whole entire life with another person: weekly trips to the farmer’s market and a regular sushi place and champagne to celebrate birthdays and fresh flowers, every week, in a vase on your kitchen island. you’re angry because you want to marry bea, because you want her to be your wife. you’re angry because, more than anything in any universe, you want to grow old with her. you want, so badly, to grow old with her.
you don’t need to say any of that; you hold the engagement ring — a simple, thick, expensive white gold band with a small diamond imbedded flat into it — that had been on her finger for the past five months in the palm of your hand. you don’t squeeze it too tight because you don’t trust the halo right now: you’re too emotional, and the last thing you want is to squish and warp an engagement ring and not be able to put it back on beatrice’s pretty hand when she’s out of surgery. when she’s okay, and alive, and inevitably stubborn and grumpy as she heals.
mother superion understands, as she has for a long time, and, especially once camila joins you, chatters on and on about new recruits, and the tech they’re developing, and the small garden of herbs they’ve managed, in tandem, to keep alive. someone brings all of you food, and you force down half a turkey sandwich under everyone’s watchful gaze, although it’s difficult and it makes you want to gag a few times. eventually — like heaven’s gates fucking opening, or bea kissing you for the first time when you came back from the other realm, or three days ago when you’d listened to a new record, lying on the floor together in front of your fireplace — jillian finds you and tells you that beatrice did well. the shrapnel is out, and all of her internal bleeding had been taken care of; they’d put a rod down her femur, a relatively easy repair that, in the long run, shouldn’t bother her much.
‘i’ll set up a cot in her room,’ she says. ‘she should wake up in the next hour. she’s on a lot of pain meds, so she’ll be groggy, but things look good, ava.’
/
mother superion walks you there, after mary and camila take their leave to go settle into their own rooms for the night.
‘beatrice is strong,’ she says.
‘i wish she didn’t have to be.’ it’s an hurt that’s filled your chest for so long, practically since you’d first met her: you love her now, and know everything important about her. bea had shoved everything precious and holy about herself down, and down, and down, so that there were no decisions to be made about pleasure, or happiness: only service, and sacrifice, and the desperate absence of want. and now she wants you, and she shows you, and she loves you.
mother superion nods. ’i trust that you will take care of her, to help her heal.’ it’s a sort of benediction: you have for years, now, given beatrice the space to feel and desire and laugh and hurt and get better — to wear pants she loves and sleep in and watch stupid tv and cut her hair. ‘once she’s stable, lilith can take you back to your home. camila and i are happy to stay, if you’d like.’
‘i would,’ you agree immediately, because it’s true. you love your family around, especially when you’re scared, especially when it’s hard to remember that this is temporary: stitches and a broken leg and small fractures that will knit themselves back together. ‘thank you.’
‘of course, ava,’ she says, and then hugs you tightly outside of the closed door to beatrice’s room. ‘we’ll be around, if you need.’
‘thank you.’
you take a deep breath and then open the door, and, although bea is covered in tubes and wires and bandages and bruises and stitches, her face is full of color again and her breathing is deep and easy. her head rests softly on a pillow and her hands — when you walk to the side of the bed and lace your fingers together — are warm, and clean, and steady. your adrenaline starts to wear off and you thank the nurse who introduces himself and then brings in a cot; there’s nothing in the entire world that would make you let go of her hand and lie down right now, but eventually it’ll come in handy.
a blessing, though: after about an hour, bea’s eyes flutter open, and you scramble to sit up fully.
‘hi baby.’
she swallows and then squeezes your hand. ‘hey.’
you get the cup of water with a straw from the table nearby, offer it to her, and she takes a few sips before lying back.
‘anything really bad?’ she asks, and her eyes are gold and so beautiful and a little tuft of her hair sticks up behind the gauze wrapped around her head.
you list her injuries, because you know she’ll want to understand.
‘nothing i won’t get better from.’ she says it for you and for herself, then nods seriously. ’i’m really high.’
you pause, just for a second, and then laugh. it feels so good, like stars or the first time you’d eaten a pomegranate. ‘that’s okay.’
‘can we go home soon?’
‘yeah,’ you say, trying not to laugh too hard at her slurred words. ‘once you’re feeling a little better, lilith can take us home.’
she smiles. ‘that sounds good.’
‘yeah?’
‘mhm.’ she lets her eyes fall closed. ‘don’t go anywhere, please.’
‘i’ll be right here the whole time, bea.’ you lean forward and kiss her, so gently, and it makes her hum; you take put her engagement band back on her finger. ‘there’s nowhere else i’d rather be.’
/
it makes your chest ache as you walk slowly through jillian’s mansion with beatrice, two days later. she shuffles with a big brace on her leg and a walker, a physical therapist on her other side. lilith had — disconcertingly, just a little — brought a duffel of clothes for the both of you yesterday morning. it means that lilith had probably rifled through everything in your entire house, but she had packed all of your toiletries and comfortable shorts, sweaters, t-shirts, and joggers, a pair of birkenstocks bea wears often.
earlier, you’d helped bea into a pair of boxers, running shorts, and a hoodie, carefully pulled warm socks onto her feet, and she’d grimaced and set her jaw and nodded when the physical therapist explained how they were going to get her up and walking, if she wasn’t in too much pain.
‘what’s you pain level?’ she checks in.
bea’s brow is furrowed and her knuckles are white around the handles of the walker. ‘i can keep going.’
‘beatrice,’ you say, a little harsh, and then, softer: ‘please.’
she pauses her slow steps. ‘i — an 8.’
her physical therapist frowns. ‘ideally, we don’t want you above a 5, a 6 at most. i’d like to get a wheelchair to get you back to the room.’
she looks down at her hands.
‘bea,’ you say softly. ‘it’s — it’s okay.’ you’ll get better; we have time, we have time, we have time; i love you.
‘okay,’ she relents, and you stand for half a minute and then her physical therapist comes back with a chair and helps her sit safely. once she’s back situated in bed, you go to the bathroom and let the water warm up and wet a washcloth. you want to cry with overwhelm: you’d been treated so cruelly, for so long, when you needed to be cared for; it is a gift, such a fucking gift, to get to care for the person you love.
‘i figured you might want to wash your face, maybe put some new deodorant on?’
she waits a second, a little unsure, but then smiles. ‘are you saying i stink?’
her small joke lets what feels like a whoosh of air back into your lungs. ‘i would never.’
she squeezes your hand. ‘thank you ava.’
‘of course.’ you show her the washcloth and her facewash that lilith had brought, and you wait for her nod before you carefully wipe her face and then get the facewash to foam before you smooth it gently into her skin before you wipe her face clean. ‘i can do all of your serums for you. a little facial? spa de ava?’ you smile and run a finger along her brow. ‘but i wont do anything you don’t want.’
‘that sounds… really nice. ava.’
you get all of her little skincare serums lined up in the order she usually does them, which you had specifically requested from lilith, and then tell her to close her eyes. it’s not perfect, because she’s in a hospital bed and there’s a big incision down her abdomen, stapled together, that her surgeon had nodded at this morning when she changed the bandage, pleased.
you’re as gentle as you can be, and a nurse brings bea a paid med, and then she’s sighing under your fingertips as you touch her gently, massage her temples, trace a gentle line down her jaw. she falls asleep as you scratch her scalp, just like normal.
she’s so beautiful, as the sunlight filters through the window in the early afternoon. there’s her freckles and her strong wrists and the miracle of her jaw. you realize, all of a sudden, that you haven’t slept in… at least a day and a half, at this point. she’s safe; she’s safe. bea walked today, slowly and painfully and just down the ball, but still — and she let you care for her.
you change into comfortable clothes — one of bea’s thick cotton t-shirts, oversized and expensive and soft, that smells like her cologne; a pair of joggers that fall just at your ankles — and allow yourself to sit on the cot. it’s a blessing, another in a long string of blessings, when camila knocks at the door.
you wave her in and she smiles. ‘i can sit with her, in case she wakes up, if you’d like to sleep,’ she whispers.
‘that would be awesome,’ you tell her quietly, snuggle down underneath the blankets on the cot, and fall asleep, warm and safe, with camila sitting calmly by bea.
/
it’s true: there is nowhere else you’d rather be than be her side on the couch in your breezy living room, with its perfect fabric and the high ceilings with gorgeous exposed beams, the sea stormy outside. there’s nowhere you’d rather be but you also might fucking lose your goddamn mind.
‘i know you’re bored,’ you say, an argument you’d quietly been having for the past few days since lilith brought you home, ‘but we really can’t go for a long walk just yet. you’re not even really supposed to be out of bed.’
‘i cannot stay in that bed another minute, ava.’
‘oh, come on,’ you say, wiggle your brows in an effort to get her to cheer up, even a little, ‘i’ve never heard you complain about that bed before, especially with me included.’
it works: she humors you with a little eye roll and a huff of a laugh.
you curl a little closer and kiss the top of her head, her short hair clean and soft after she’d finally gotten to take a shower this morning. you run your hand against the grain of it on the side like you’ve learned soothed her in the past few months, and, unsurprisingly, it works — she sighs. ‘i’m sorry you’re so bored. believe me, i know how boring it can be to not be able to do everything you’re used to.’
she frowns. ‘i’m sorry.’
you shake your head. ‘no, i didn’t mean to make you feel guilty. i just mean — it really sucks. there’s only so many puzzles you can do and episodes of housewives you can watch before you start to feel a little crazy.’
she smiles into your shoulder.
‘i know you have a bunch of ramped up physical therapy starting tomorrow, but maybe, if you feel up to it, we could have dinner on the beach tonight, watch the sunset? it’s not much different from eating on the balcony, but you could move around a little. i know you’re a little crazy so maybe it’ll be fun to crutch through the sand.’
‘that sounds wonderful, darling.’ she leans up to kiss you and you do your best to not get lost in it: she may be feeling better, a few weeks after, but you’d gone with her to her post-op appointment yesterday. you’d seen the long scar, just barely healed, running down her abdomen, the jagged, shiny red line above her hip where they’d pulled the shrapnel out and stitched the skin together. there’s bruising, still, all along her back, faded greens and yellows, and she gets headaches if it’s too bright. the brace on her leg is snug and she still puts weight on it carefully, like she’s afraid to fall, even if she won’t say it aloud.
‘you have to promise that you’ll tell me if you’re hurting, okay?’
‘i will, ava,’ she says, extremely solemn, and it makes you want to laugh.
you set up a whole little picnic with her favorite finger foods — aged sharp cheddar, olives, rosemary and sea salt crackers, crisp grapes, a good bottle of pinot noir — and a soft blanket on the beach, and then go back inside. she’s put on sunglasses and a beanie, a warm crewneck. it’s slow going through the sand but you make it, not all that far a distance, and you watch beatrice sit down carefully before you settle down beside her. the sun drifts, slow and lazy, below the waves. you kiss her and she tastes like wine, like bread: the sun drifts and it’s a sacrament, to love her, to have her here.
/
‘you’re kidding me.’
‘it’ll be easier to breathe if you stand tall,’ bea says, barely sweating at all, the incision in the middle of her abs faded and calm below her sports bra.
‘i swear to god, how are you so fast? it seems like just six weeks ago you’d been cleared to run.’
‘it’s been five weeks and six days,’ she says.
‘oh, my bad. that’s so so so different, sorry.’
she blushes; you can tell, even though it’s warm and sunny out and her skin is flushed from the two miles you’d run along the path on the far edge of the beach.
‘anyway, why don’t we just, you know, get a coffee and a donut and take our shoes off and walk home along the water?’
‘we’re supposed to run home, ava. this was just where we turn around.’
you pretend like you’re thinking about it, deeply, and you wait to see if beatrice will crack first; you’re delighted when she does.
‘fine,’ she says, and you jump up and down in victory, which, after a beat, makes her laugh. you beam at her, in her little men’s running tank and a fresh haircut, gold eyes and freckles, pristine white running shoes and a smile, big and bright, just for you.
‘i fucking love you, you know that?’
she laces your fingers together and strides off in the direction of the coffee shop. ‘i love you too, ava,’ she says, ‘very much.’

The submitter commented, “Really chill area (although overpriced in the busy season) with great surfing (I recommend Cox Bay) and hiking (Tonquin Trailhead, and Meares Island Big Tree Trail), and kayaking! Lots of fantastic food options, highly recommend Tacofino (although this food truck can get really busy), Shelter, Al’oha Poke and Tostada, and Sand Bar Bistro at Long Beach Lodge (I do not recommend Wolf in the Fog, overhyped, expensive and food was not good!). The craft/farmers market is great if you can catch it! Also on your road trip there, be sure to stop by Goats on the Roof Old Country Market in Coombes, great ice-cream (and now they have donuts!), cool marketplace and you can watch the goats eating the grass on the roof (their names are Minyon and Pip of which you can watch their livestream or videos on youtube!) <3”

weekly tag wednesday!
thanks for the tags: @mybrainismelted @catgrassplantdad @spookygingerr @mmmichyyy @deedala <3
Name:  Sam
Location:  cape cod (at the moment)
Age: six and twenty
You have an unexpected extra day off work or school!  What are you going to do? wake up, have a long leisurely breakfast, and then spend a few hours writing. maybe do some laundry while i'm at it.
What is your favorite way to spend a summer day?  exactly how i spent today: sleeping in and waking up at the cape house, a quick drive to get coffee and bagels for the fam, spend the day at the beach playing in the sand and the surf with my little cousins, come back to the house a little crispy but not too bad, have a beverage while i shower, then go out to dinner with the fam and do a fire and some s'mores with my cousins a bit later. bliss. (can you tell i'm on vacation this week?)
What is your favorite way to spend a winter day?  wake up at 5am, drive a ridiculous amount of time to get up to a decent sized mountain in NH or VT, spend a hundred bucks on a lift ticket and even more on beers at the lodge later, and ski for the entire day. this might sound sarcastic, but i'm beind genuine. there's nothing i love more than skiing in the winter.
What do you do to unwind at the end of the day?  read fic or a book until i pass out
Do you play any sports?  yes! so many! my summer softball season just ended, and i've been filling in for my friend's co-ed 11v11 soccer team the past few weekends. my other friend and i wanna start our own team. also the aforementioned skiing. i dabble in a few others when the occasion arises, i'm pretty much game to try any sport
Other than fanfic, what is your favorite genre to read? fantasy, contemporary, coming of age
What is your comfort movie/tv show?  comfort movie is dead poets society (don't @ me) and comfort tv show is the west wing
Do you write or draw?  i write! i am trying to get more into drawing on my ipad, but i am very bad at it right now so tbd
What other arts or crafts do you do?  i make a lot of friendship bracelets. it's just a fun craft i like to do while i watch tv. i have so many just hanging around my house, but here are some of my recent creations:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Describe your perfect breakfast:  a bagel toasted with cream cheese, a big ass side of bacon, a tall glass of milk, and maybe some hot chocolate if it's cold outside

Seasons Of Love - Summer
for Seasons Of Love 'Couple Vacation' prompt because i love the beach and i wish i was on one.
@hinnyfest
Tumblr media Tumblr media
''It's so weird to be without them,'' Ginny said as soon as they reached their beach house. ''Not having anyone screaming and running, calling us to break up fights...''
''Yes, but… it's so good,'' Harry blew out a breath as if he'd been tense until now, waiting for something to go wrong and they'd have to come back. They'd have four amazing days of their own, it wasn't much, but it was already way more than the total zero days they had child-free, so he wasn't complaining.
''Let's pack up and head to the beach, it's all I've been dreaming of since we decided to do this,'' It was Harry's dream too, if he could say so, and for many, many reasons: To see Ginny in that white bikini , swimming, enjoying the peace of the beach, drinking coconut water and eating a corn cake that a lady sold in a tent there on the beach, resting…
After packing up all their things, checking if the house was like last time and getting ready, the two of them went to the beach that wasn't far from there, and just feeling the warm ground under his feet made Harry smile and be in a good mood.
Their house was on an island that almost no one knew, Harry himself was only able to buy the house there because a friend of a friend from his work knew someone that was selling. It was difficult to get in because of the many rocks along the way and the lack of roads, but luckily, being wizards and being able to simply get a portkey, it was much easier.
Ginny and he had renovated the house as soon as they bought it; they painted inside and out, changed the furniture and decor, built more rooms, put a whirlpool in their bathroom (they deserved it), tidied up the garden and left everything as they wanted. It took a good few years, but the house was perfect, and he was proud that all that work had been worth it, because now they had somewhere to stay without having to worry about hotel, lodging, false names…
''You look so pretty,'' Harry kissed her shoulder as they sat on the sand, a towel under them and the parasol over Ginny so she wouldn't suffer from heat stroke. He was only in his swimming trunks, sunglasses, and his chest was still a little white from the sunscreen.
''It's the peace of knowing that we won't have to wake up early tomorrow,'' Ginny said, smiling and adjusting the hat she wore. They had already learned that she needed to take very good care of herself if she didn't want to go to the hospital. ''Go swimming, I know this is what you've been dreaming about,''
''I'm going to surf,'' Harry pointed to the board beside him. Obviously he didn't know how to surf, but it shouldn't be hard right? He read some books and saw some movies where people surfed. He was prepared. ''That's right, now your husband surfs.. My next step is to grow my hair out and walk around all tanned and tattooed.''
Ginny laughed. ''Like that guy in the movie?''
''Yes,'' Harry smiled proudly, kissing her then. ''Get ready to be even more in love,'' He stood up, straightening his shorts and taking off his sunglasses. ''Hold your panties.''
"I'll try." Ginny smiled, putting on his glasses and lying face down on top of the towel, resting her head on her folded arms, while Harry grabbed the board and headed for the water, ready to show her his surfing skills.

alright, so. ‘i dream of jeannie’ lawrusso au derived from cobra-sigh’s post which got sent to lottie zappedbyzabka by a delightful anon and lottie then said fantastic but what about the reverse and THEN sent it to me and promised me a diamond ring if i wrote about it. we run a complicated economy. anyway thank u cobra-sigh, anon, and lottie.
OKAY. so daniel moves to california with his ma for his senior year. doesn’t have a single friend in the valley, but just like in the movie manages to ‘new kid’ (and ‘daniel larusso’) his way into getting invited to the beach party. it’s…unremarkable. the stretch of beach is as nice as the weather and the people he meets are nice enough too - he meets a bunch of them, boys his age, and they talk and kick a soccer ball around. he meets a nice girl called ali and they kind of hit it off before she eventually leaves with her friends, but by nightfall he’s kind of bored of the company. they don’t have the best vibes and aren’t paying him all too much attention once his novelty wears off, so daniel ends up just kind of wandering along the shore on his own, enjoying the fresh experience of california.
he gets farther than he realises, and a long way down the beach he notices a glint of bright red lodged in the wet sand, being jostled by the lapping waves. it’s…a vase? no, more like a bottle. it’s ornate, adorned with gold and gems, and unlike a vase it’s sealed shut at the top with something like a cork. daniel glances around him, wondering if he’ll see some sort of evidence of where it came from, but there’s no one at all on this area of the beach. he can just barely see the glow of the fires marking his group in the distance, little pinpricks of golden light on the endless dark empty beach. so, giving into his curiosity, he picks up the bottle and tilts it, examining it, and finally pulls it open. absentmindedly traces his fingertips over the decoration as he does, the thought ‘it’s empty’ already forming in his head before he’s suddenly surrounded by smoke.
and then there’s a guy.
daniel does not at all process what just happened. he panics, assuming that this is the owner of the bottle or something, come sprinting over to ask him why the hell daniel’s touching his stuff - to which daniel is fully prepared to ask why the hell this guy’s just leaving his stuff in the surf - but there’s no aggression or anything on his…very pretty face, very close to daniel’s. in fact, he’s smiling at daniel, pale eyes all wide as he stares at him like he’s dazzled, but he doesn’t say anything. it’s then that daniel notices his clothing, or…lack thereof. the only solid piece of clothing he’s wearing is a tiny, tight pair of shorts, and the rest is floaty see-through fabric he’s draped in, embellished with elaborate embroidery and gold at the edges, doing nothing to impede daniel from briefly staring directly at his…ample chest, washed rosy behind the sheer red fabric.
he averts his gaze immediately, cheeks burning, but the stranger doesn’t seem to mind. he crowds even closer, in fact, and takes daniel by the hands, finally bursting out with that big beautiful smile still on his face that daniel freed him! - “i’ll give you anything, master. i owe you. seriously, anything. everything!”
daniel thinks maybe he passed out on the beach or something, and now he’s having some sort of especially abstract dirty dream. but things feel decidedly real when, after a little more anxious conversing and learning that the stranger’s name is johnny - and subsequently wondering if this is a prank because that’s definitely a bad pun on ‘genie’ - johnny looks right into daniel’s eyes and lights up again like he’s seen something there, something he’s especially delighted to see. and then he’s pressing his lips to daniel’s, kissing him deeply. his skin is soft and warm, and he smells like really old bookstores do, and he’s so gorgeous. he says he’ll stay by daniel’s side forever, give him whatever he wants, and daniel tells him that he absolutely does not have to do that - seriously, johnny’s free - and also his ma will not be happy if he brings back a pretty, almost-naked boy from the beach to stay with him forever, but johnny just smiles at him and disappears neatly back into the bottle like he’s proving a point by doing so.
daniel looks despairingly around him again. the beach is still empty and quiet, almost eerily so now without johnny, and there’s not a single witness to what daniel’s about to do.
he sighs deeply and picks up the bottle and heads home.

Sossusvlei - The Dunes of Namibia
May 18, 2024
Looking forward to something is so fun. When the reality exceeds expectations, it’s a treat!….. We had a 6:30 AM departure for the dunes this morning, so up and at ‘em we were at 5:15 AM. Dressed and ready, we headed to the lodge where omelets and banana muffins awaited. Oh, and cappuccino/coffee! We set off with Chicco and the same group as yesterday’s outing, save for the guy traveling on his own. It seems the ice was broken and everyone was more chatty and friendly even than yesterday. We had about a two-hour drive to get to Big Daddy - the highest of the dunes. The journey was the epitome of the “African massage” traveling over dirt and gravel roads, a few paved sections, and inside the park, deep sand. The scenery was lovely as the sun rose behind the mountains, the colors seemingly changing by the minute as the light got brighter and brighter and the definition of the shapes and textures emerging. Chicco was attentive to offering rest stops where they existed, but hey, we’re in the desert - it’s mostly nothingness. Infrequently, we’d spot a springbok, oryx or ostrich (why are the boys so often more beautiful than the girls in nature?)
We arrived at the entrance to Sossusvlei National Park before the gates opened, so we queued up with 27 vehicles ahead of us (but who’s counting). Shock of all shocks, we weren’t the only travelers headed for the dunes. In we went and it was about another 40 minutes to the point where Chicco put us in 4x4 mode. Crazy bumpy, we made it past a few stuck vehicles (so nice to be with an experienced guide who knows the complexities of sand travel), past Dune 45 - a graceful rounded shape - and on to the area of Big Daddy and the Deadvlei. Driving in across what once had been a riverbed, the dunes flanked us on both sides. The way the light catches them, for a sunny side and full-shaded side makes them even more striking than they’d be in simply full sun. At the car park, Chicco pointed about a few things about the foliage (scruffy, but still alive) including that some of the gin that seems popular here is made from scruffy trees! We parked and there was the big dilemma of which path to take: over the baby dunes at one extreme, full-on Big Daddy on the other extreme or the middle path we took which was en-route to Big Daddy, with the ability to veer off toward Deadvlei at any point. One climbs the crest of the dunes going up. Being not the first for the day, and in fact slightly later, the crest was a bit trodden which made it easier. We (to include Chicco) were a bit concerned about Jillebob’s knee situation, but she was comfortable with slow and steady so we figured it was worth a go. It was indeed quite strenuous, as every step results it a bit forward/up and a slightly less slip backwards. Slow progress. But ah, the views over and across the dunes were so so so worth it. A few people passed us, one guide for a couple of travelers generously took a bunch of photos of us,and on we pushed. Lance and Rebecca (Americans) had opted for the baby dunes. Idea and Ty (Thai and Aussie newlyweds) started toward the baby dunes but ultimately came with us. Thankfully, Chicco accompanied us on the high road. When we felt that we’d gotten the full experience, and had taken in the spectacular views, we decided to head down. Chicco recommended removing our shoes (best advice ever), so off they came. The first step off the ridge is terrifying, but the trip down was a total kick. What looked like straight down (yes, steep!) was an experience of sliding several feet with each step, stopping when the lead foot sank into the cold sand to mid-shin. Jill with poles to steady her and Seb with arms outstretched as if surfing to balance, we careened down. The exfoliation effect on our feet felt fabulous and it really wasn’t at all scary once we started. Such an experience!
We emerged at Deadvlei where dead trees are upright, held in place with no living bacteria to make them decay and in what is effectively concrete - clay hardened in the sun. It’s quite the sight. The guides (and a few signs) are clear not to touch or sit on the trees to keep them for future travelers to see. Wow. We hung out for a bit then headed back across the baby dunes.
Many vehicles did as we did - left the car park and found a big tree under which to picnic. Staff from the lodge were already set up with a multi-course meal. Second breakfast of the day, but what the heck, it replaced lunch. Everyone was cheery and chatty and the meal went by quickly. We headed “home,” with wonderful memories and a dose of exhaustion from the exertion, heat, and sun. Not bad for a morning.
Back at #11 (of 12 bungalows) we enjoyed rest and relaxation by the pool (too freezing cold to jump in), a glass of wine (Seb) and gin and tonic (Jill - in honor of the trees from the morning). Then we were off to our afternoon’s activity- a hike to some old, native paintings/carvings in the nearby mountains. We walked across the expanse that we’d been looking at just a few minutes before to one of the mountains (hills?) in what had been the distance. Along the way, Mario, our wonderful guide, passed on everything from bits about the landscape, wildlife (there is more that is unseen), archeological finds and theories, and even more enjoyably, tidbits about his life. Truly enjoyable. Jillebob’s knees did not brave the climb to the mountain cave, so Seb took her walking sticks (thank goodness!!!) and forged upward with Mario. It was a rough climb over unstable rocks and slippery pebbles, but they made it to the top intact. There, the reward were cave paintings that date back anywhere from 200 to multiple thousands of years old. Some are barely decipherable and others, quite vivid. The view back to the lodge was fantastic. No hope of seeing Jill at the bottom as her earth-tone clothes blended in; she could spot Seb scrambling up and down, wearing a light turquoise shirt. The way back got increasingly dark with only phone flashlights to illuminate the way. Mario still did well getting us home safely.
On arrival, as is the norm, the staff met us with a fresh moist towel and fruit drink. We settled into the lounge for a drink, before moving to the lodge’s upper deck, where Esther (our butler) set our table for dinner. With stars above and a cooling breeze, it was lovely. The meal, as has become expected, delicious! Ostrich for Jill and vegetarian for Seb. We chatted about the adventures to come and spied on the party of eight eating by the pool. We checked out Bruce’s observatory, but he seemed caught up with another guest, so we headed home with the possibility of meeting him there for a pre-dawn planet viewing. We’ll see how that early morning wake-up goes.
All in all, we’re in love with &Beyond: a fantastic introduction to Namibia.

The mist has finally cleared and my destination is in sight. I am unfamiliar with the feeling of oceanic sand under my feet. It is quite soft, I may add.
This place is as idyllic as I heard it described. Undella is a small town with not too many inhabitants surrounded by the sea and surf. I have never seen the ocean before, and I am captivated by it.
Perhaps I may stay out here for a while before checking into lodging. I feel at peace.

Which is better, Goa or Dandeli? Why?
The well established question of whether Goa or Dandeli is the prevalent travel objective has ignited enthusiastic discussions among explorers. These two areas offer unmistakable differences in their scenes, exercises, and by and large energy. While Goa is inseparable from sun-kissed sea shores and lively nightlife, Dandeli is a lavish, green safe-haven for nature and experience fans. We should bring a profound plunge into what compels every one of these objections remarkable and assist you with concluding which one is more qualified for your next escape.
Goa: A Beach Lover’s Paradise
Goa, known for its sweeping shorelines, brilliant sea shores, and flourishing party scene, is the exemplification of an ocean side darling's fantasy. With a laid-back environment, sightseers from everywhere the globe rush to Goa to absorb the sun, participate in exciting water sports, or loosen up at beachside shacks with a chilled brew close by. The waves, the fragrance of fish, and the perpetual stretches of sand make it an ideal beach front getaway.
Dandeli: A Jungle Adventurer’s Haven
for adventurers in the jungle. It has dense forests, rolling hills, and the raging Kali River as the backdrop for an adventure-filled vacation. Ideal for the people who look to escape into the wild, Dandeli draws in voyagers anxious to encounter its untamed life, participate in adrenaline-siphoning exercises, or essentially relish the quietness of nature. Here, the call of the wild calls, offering an unmistakable difference to Goa's sandy shores.
Looking at the Energies: Unwinding versus Experience
While Goa is tied in with setting free and partaking in a lighthearted time by the ocean side, Dandeli flourishes with giving guests a more tough, courageous experience. Goa's easygoing, accommodating appeal is ideal for the people who need to de-stress. In the mean time, Dandeli takes special care of adrenaline junkies and nature darlings who wish to drench themselves in backwoods trails, untamed life safaris, and waterway boating.
Nature in Goa: Sun, Sand, and Surf
Goa's normal magnificence is overwhelmed by its sea shores, with well known spots like Baga, Anjuna, and Palolem drawing huge groups. The palm-bordered shorelines and the Bedouin Ocean's delicate lapping waves make a tranquil yet dynamic environment.
